So when I applied for this ARC, I didn’t realize it was book 6 in an interconnected series.
Since I loved this book so much, I will be going back and reading books 1-5! - you get glimpses of the characters from previous books which really made me want to read their stories.
In this book you meet Ashley (🤭) a sassy female down on her luck, when she breaks up with her narcissistic boyfriend “red flag Finn” and loses her job and apartment she moves back to her small town to take care of her grandmother.
Ex Navy SEAL Nathan takes a job with SSI ( Sheppard & Sons Investigation - which is a bunch of Ex cops, ex marines,ex navy seals, and PI’s) and he runs into the woman he met in Vegas a year ago, that he ghosted but hasn’t been able to stop thinking about.
The characters and connection in this book is amazing. I was engaged the whole time, full of suspense and heartbreak. I cried. It was hard to put down.
I love a good romantic suspense, with found family and touch her and die vibes, say less!!
If you like Catherine Cowles “Sparrow Falls” series I definitely think you will enjoy this series!
What you will find in this book: • ꜱᴍᴀʟʟ ᴛᴏᴡɴ • ʀᴏᴍᴀɴᴛɪᴄ ꜱᴜꜱᴘᴇɴꜱᴇ • ꜰᴏᴜɴᴅ ꜰᴀᴍɪʟʏ • ꜱᴇᴄᴏɴᴅ ᴄʜᴀɴᴄᴇ • ꜱᴄᴀʀʀᴇᴅ ʜᴇʀᴏ x ꜱᴀꜱꜱʏ ꜰᴇᴍᴀʟᴇ • ᴛᴏᴜᴄʜ ʜᴇʀ ᴀɴᴅ ᴅɪᴇ ᴠɪʙᴇꜱ • ꜱᴀꜱꜱʏ ɢʀᴀɴᴅᴍᴏᴛʜᴇʀ • ᴄᴜᴛᴇ ᴄᴀᴛ • ᴅᴜᴀʟ ᴘᴏᴠ
I enjoyed the storyline again I didn’t realise it’s part of series.

This was an ARC and I would like to thank Eveline's team for the chance to read and review.
This is the last book in the series and follows Ashley and Nathan. Ashley was living her dream in the big city and after dating the wrong guy, she ends up back in her small home town and without a job because of said Ex. There was a girls trip to Las Vegas where she meets a man and has an amazing time with him and before they could hook up, he ghosts her. After she moves back home and starts helping out the local businesses with their Social media presence, she bumps into 'Casper' and realizes her now works for the local PI company. This book was a joy to read and the back story for Nathan/Casper is dark but there was merit for him ghosting her. Although this is a standalone there were tie ins from the previous books, that are about other couples that are from the small town and work for the PI company. I will be reading more of these stories.
I received an ARC of this book and I loved reading every minute of it. The story was great, the jeopardy kept me hooked and the found family element was so comforting. I love a second chance romance and a bad boy turns good, protective MMC so this had everything I wanted. There was sexual innuendo and suggestion but no explicit spice in the book but also included some dark themes so still an adult romance read. Although this is book 6, it’s the first I’ve read of the series and would love to now read the rest since I’ve got a flavour of the rest of the characters. Overall, really enjoyable read!
I'm an official ARC reader for Trapped by evelineroseauthor 🏡 Review Time✍️📚 Love, danger, and secrets collide in Eveline Rose’s newest romantic suspense, Trapped. 💔
A heroine fighting her past. A hero torn between protection and trust. And a case that could cost them everything.
This story kept me on edge with its twists, heart-stopping suspense, and tender moments of healing. If you love small-town romance wrapped in mystery, this one needs to be on your TBR. 🖤
Would you risk everything for love… even when the world feels like it’s closing in?”
Small town, second chance romance plus suspense !! YES PLEASE!!!
Ashley was so sassy and Nathan is the protective alpha male. Then there's gran I loved how sassy she was lol plus playing matchmaker lol. This is my first Eveline Rose book I read and now I'm going to go read the other books in this series.
Thank you Eveline for allowing me to be part of the ARC team!
Ashley met a man she connected with in Vegas over two days of talking and hanging out until he ghosted her before their first actual date. Now, a year later she has lost her job and been evicted due to breaking up with her recent ex boyfriend (who she calls Red Flag Finn) and has moved back to her small hometown to take care of her Gran and figure out her life. She is two months late and doesn’t want to take a test to confirm her awful ex may be in her life for at least 18 years. While hanging with her recently married bestie who reveals she is pregnant who does she run into but the very man who she has thought about the entire year since he ghosted her in Vegas, how did he end up in her tiny small town? Well Nathan now works for her bestie’s husband’s company Sheppard and Sons Investigations. I didn’t read the previous books from the SSI world but I don’t feel like it was necessary to jump in here. Nathan comes clean he was undercover in Vegas and it was blown and he was held & tortured for two weeks (and that’s why he never showed up to meet Ashley). Their chemistry is still off the charts but Ashley’s ex shows up and gets aggressive. Nathan scares him off but then creepy roses and packages show up at Ashley & Gran’s place. Now Ashley’s in danger and SSI is going to protect her, guess who volunteers to be her personal 24/7 protection detail? There is no spice in the book, lots of angsty feelings and some kissing. Their insta-love to denying it to dangerous situations to all in was just meh for me. I just didn’t fall in love with either of them. All the ex-military alpha man energy was around but I didn’t connect with any of them, maybe in previous books there was more to the guys then just the protectiveness of their women and some military bro camaraderie but I didn’t really love any of them. Same with the gals, I liked the feisty energy and that they all had their gal pal’s backs but I didn’t deeply connect there either. There was that found family element but just didn’t grab me like I wanted. Just not my particular cup of tea for this one.

While this was closed door, the kisses between Nathan and Ashley were definitely hot. I would have absolutely loved some spice since their chemistry was scorching, but I understand it's not always required. I could use my imagination regardless. ;)
To start - both the demon cat and Gran will have you cracking up throughout this book. Gran is the definition of sassy & completely wonderful!
Nathan, aka Scott or Casper, and Ashley met over a year ago in Vegas and never forgot about each other despite him never showing up to their agreed upon first date. During that entire time she thought he ghosted her and tried to move it. If only it were as simple as that as the truth is so much worse & he has physical scars for it.
With her returning to her hometown & him taking a job in said town, they have a new meet cute moment that's anything but cute as she is harboring A LOT of anger still. Not to mention that her life is kind of a mess even without him showing up. As her life becomes messier due to a stalker, they're forced together 24/7 to keep her safe...and he will do anything to keep her safe.
Until the very end of the book, I didn't have a good feel for the amount of time spent in the story and wish we had a better sense of that. But, for my first book from this author, I do want to read more when I can find the time!
Thank you to Eveline & Happily Booked PR for the ARC on this one!
Ashley’s story pulled me in from the very beginning. She is at a low point in her life, jobless, evicted, and back home caring for her grandmother, when she suddenly comes face to face with the man who once ghosted her in Vegas. Except he is not Scott anymore. He is Nathan, the new guy at SSI, and the scars and secrets he carries explain more than she ever imagined.
The sparks between them are immediate because of their history, but the trust and forgiveness take their time. The slow build of emotion made every moment feel earned, and when they finally give in it is all the more satisfying.
What stands out is how Eveline Rose blends small town warmth with romantic suspense. The coffee shop, craft nights, and family dinners add a cozy layer, while Nathan’s past and Ashley’s struggles keep the tension high. The friendships between the women give the book as much heart as the romance, which makes the world feel real and lived in.
The story delivers so many favorite tropes such as second chance romance, found family, protective alpha hero, small town setting, and just enough forced proximity to keep the sparks alive. The spice level is a solid three chillis, steamy enough to raise the temperature while still letting the suspense and emotional depth take center stage.
A five star read that mixes grit with comfort, emotional depth with cozy community, and gives you a scarred hero worth rooting for.

Trapped is a thrilling blend of action, suspense, and romance. The story follows Ashley, who finds herself kidnapped and caught in a deadly game of survival, and Nathan, the operative determined to bring her home. The book balances military-style tactical missions with raw human emotions, especially the growing connection between Nathan and Ashley.
I loved how the author kept the pace fast and cinematic — every mission scene felt like a movie, and the tension never really let go. At the same time, the emotional undercurrent between the characters gave the book its heart. Themes of resilience, loyalty, and the fight between duty and desire really stood out.
Strengths: ✅ Gripping action sequences ✅ Nathan & Ashley’s chemistry feels real and intense ✅ Balance of romance and danger
Areas that could be stronger: ▫️ Sometimes the detailed tactical writing overshadowed character depth ▫️ Villains felt more “threatening” than fully fleshed out
Overall, it’s a page-turner that keeps you hooked. While I usually enjoy fantasy worlds with magic and creatures more, this thriller still managed to surprise me in a very good way. That’s why I’m happily giving it 4 stars.

Our FMC Ashley is sassy as heck and I love it. And our alpha protective MMC is Nathan. Ashley just moved back to her home town trying to start over fresh trying to get her life back on track. And Nathan takes a private investigating job hoping for a fresh start in a small town. Unknowningly in said small town he finds Ashley, the girl he ghosted in Vegas. He fights to earn her trust back fighting his own demons. But when she disappears he will stop at nothing to get her back safely. This was such a great romantic suspense and an emotional story line I was hooked and read this in about a day! Will they get their HEA? Please check the TW page. Thank you so much for this amazing read this was my first book by this author and I’m excited to read more in this series from her!

My Review
I received this book as an arc and it pulled me in from page one and refused to let go. Eveline Rose creates such a vivid, and wicked atmosphere that you feel every ounce of tension between the characters. It’s not just a romance...it’s a fight for survival, for trust, and for the truth hiding behind every secret.
The chemistry is electric, the emotions raw, and the twists kept me hooked! I loved how the author balanced the darker, heavier moments with tender ones that sneak up on you when you least expect it. This story is gripping, haunting, and unforgettable. If you’re into romances that mix danger with desire, this one deserves a spot on your TBR. This is book 6 in the series and now I feel like I need to read the rest of the series. I personally feel like this book can be read as a standalone.🫶 Trapped was released on August 29th!
Thank you for picking me to be an ARC for this book!❤️
I was scared that I was gonna hate this book at the start, since it seemed like all the males were overprotective and that we’d have a weak fmc. There was also a lot of talk about how the main group of males were alphas and stuff which did slow down after the first few chapters. The story did pick up, and the romance had a nice tension since it was a kind of second chance with a misunderstanding in the guise of just not telling the other something and them having made an assumption. Most of the women were pregnant but none of it was used as trap or the main thing holding anyone together. There were some twists which were not expected and some that were, but at least it seemed like the protectiveness could be somewhat controlled and that the female characters weren’t weak damsels in distress. Best character obviously has to be Havoc, and I overall enjoyed this read. I’m not sure if I’ll get to reading this entire series, but would potentially consider it. This book is part of a series, however can be read as a standalone. And having read this book first, I did not find anything too difficult to understand.
I appreciate having received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The last place Ashley expects to find the guy who ghosted her a year ago is her small hometown of Weatherford. Nathan is just as surprised to see the woman he never forgot. Ashley wants nothing to do with Nathan, her anger has simmered for a year. But Nathan won't give up. And when danger starts stalking Ashley, Nathan is determined to be her protector.
I really liked the way the author brought Ashley and Nathan back together. Ashley was a hard one to win over. Nathan was determined. Their meeting, their dialogue and their slow progression back to each other flowed perfectly. Especially once the suspense started to rev up.
I enjoyed the interactions of all the characters. Even though I wasn't yet familiar with all of them, I still appreciated the brotherly banter (both between the literal sense between the Shepard brothers, and in the colloquial among the employees of Shepard and Sons Investigations). The dialogue kept the story moving. The intensity built slowly and certainly kept me engaged.
I wasn't aware that this book was part of a series. But the author includes a who's who of the characters, so I never felt lost or confused. After enjoying this story, I plan to go back and start the series from the beginning.
Ashley and Casper, aka Scott, aka Nathan. is a small town romance about two that meet in Vegas. clearly what stays in Vegas didn't apply to these two. Ashley moves back home to Grans because she lost her job after bragging up with "red flag finn". she also thinks she's pregnant by him. Nathan was undercover on Vegas so he couldn't tell her who he really was. it eats at him everyday. especially now that he's working in the same small town for SSI. the two run into each other but it's everything but a good reunion. she's mad but still attracted. he's wanting to fix things. long story short. he's assigned to protect her when strange gifts start showing up at her doorstep. then she disappears. taken. but by who? this turns into a game of cat and mouse. at least for me it did. they want each other, but she's stubborn, he's trying to fix things. I'm usually all for stories like this. but for whatever reason, this one fell short for me. it could be all of that overwhelming Alpha navy seal energy. I did enjoy the book. but even though it's a standalone, I feel like i would've had more insight had i read the others before this one.

ARC Review-Author Star Rating: 4.5⭐️ Pub Date: August 30th, 2025 This is book 6 in Sheppard and Sons I really did enjoy this! This is a small town, romantic suspense with dual pov between MFM and MMC. Can’t forget second chance romance as Ashley and Nate met years before when Nate was undercover and couldn’t be the real him so she got mad at him once he shows up in her life in the future when she moves back to her small town. I loved Ashley’s vibes and her sass was funny too. I really liked the connection Ashley and Nathan had. Most of all Ashley just got along so well with the Sheppard’s family and she was there for her friends Emily and the others. This was a mix between heartfelt and sadness because of what Ashley has been going through and her stupid ex Finn keeps popping up. Nate will do anything he can to protect her and it’s just like she fits in with the family so well. I CANNOT forget Gran’s cat, Prince lol. He was such a cute cat and made the story so funny but I really enjoyed this and I’m gonna go back to the first one and read the full series :) very lighthearted too. I recommend.
Who knew the saying “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” wasn’t always true? For Ashley and Nathan, one unforgettable night didn’t end with a date like planned. Ashley thought she was ghosted, but the truth was far different. Fast forward, Nathan’s new job with a private security company leads him straight back to Ashley on his very first day. Now Nathan wants a second chance, but Ashley isn’t sure she can risk her heart, especially with the unexpected changes in her life. When danger strikes, Nathan and the SSI team go all in to protect their family and keep everyone safe.
This story had it all, great suspense, a solid storyline, and chemistry that sparked right off the page. The banter between Ashley and Nathan was so fun, and while it wasn’t openly spicy, the tension and thoughts between them kept me hooked.
If you love second-chance romance mixed with suspense and protective heroes, this one’s for you!
Just finished book 6 of Shepherd and Sons Investigation Trapped. This is the 1st book I read by Evelin’s Rose. I did enjoy this book. It follows family friend of the Shepherds Ashley. She lived in Vegas and had a brief fling with a man named Scott after he asked to meet her for their 1st date he stands her up. A year later she left Vegas after dumping her ex and getting fired from a job she loved, to take care of her gran a woman who raised her. Only to find Scott in her favourite coffee house. Only to find out he’s the newest employee of her best friends family business and his name is Nathan. Nathan a retired seal and undercover agent devastated about how he couldn’t find Ashley and how his life changed for the worse was shocked to see her. With all the secrets and lies Nathan told Ashley will Ashley forgive him? I loved this book. I wished I read the others books in this series 1st so I got the backstory of the characters that are mentioned but it still made sense to me and it flowed so easily. The plot was amazing, the characters development was amazing it flowed at a natural pace. I’ll definitely read the others books in this series if it’s anything like this one I’ll love them.
This was an amazing book like all the ones before it. Ashley York comes back home to Weatherford, and moves in with her grandmother. Who by the way is a hoot. She can’t forget the man in Vegas. But not too long she runs into him at Grannies diner right in her hometown. He’s been hired by Sheppard & Sons Investigations. She just can’t believe it. She’s mad, and that’s putting it mildly.
Nathan can’t believe Ashley is in the diner. He’s there to pick up coffee as the new guy. So much he needs to tell her, but she won’t even give him a chance. Yes he’s lied to her a lot. She keeps calling him Casper. Plus a whole lot more. A lot has happened to him. He can’t explain all to her, but things get complicated to which he will do anything to protect her. That also goes for her Grandma Violet.
So much more to come. They are standalone. But I highly suggest you read in order.
For a book over 400 pages, the time spent reading it passed by quickly. It was one of those books where you want to keep reading to see what will happen next.
I liked both MC’s. Natalie was feisty and sassy, much like her Gran who was one of my favourite characters. Nathan was the overprotective alpha male I love to read about. Their relationship was slow-burn and I felt we really only scratched the surface with them. I wish I’d had more opportunity to see them together throughout the story.
There were a lot of characters from previous books but the author did a great job with not overwhelming the reader. It was easy to understand who everyone was and how they fit in. I would be interested to go back and read the previous books in the series.
This was a really satisfying second chance romance. Nathan and Hailey had history from their meeting a year ago and their reintroduction was unplanned and shocking to say the least. I really liked how Nathan didn’t give up on hoping for another chance but remained super respectful about it the entire time. It was also really nice seeing Hailey come around and forgive him and accept him into her life again. Hailey being in danger really added the perfect level of tension and her disappearance was actually pretty surprising. I loved the way the SSI team handled it. This is low spice but there’s a lot of really incredible chemistry between Hailey and Nathan the whole book. Really solid romance with a really great ending.
I received an arc for this book and let me tell you. I was pulled right in. This story balances suspense, romance, and raw emotion in a way that makes you instantly connect to the characters.
Ashley’s return to her hometown felt both heartbreaking and hopeful she’s been through so much, and starting over isn’t easy. But then running into Nathan, the man she thought she left behind in Vegas, takes the story to another level. There’s pain here, yes, but also fierce love, fear, and that protective energy that makes you root for their second chance. The trust issues between them felt so real
There’s brooding, scars, healing, and a reminder that second chances often come when you least expect them. It had moments of fear and tension, but also warmth and heart that made the story shine.
The latest in the Sheppard & Sons Investigations romantic suspense series, was my introduction to both the series and the author. This installment blends second-chances, small-town suspense with emotional stakes, always addictive.
I was so into the book that I devoured it! I wanted to hug Ashley and Nathan. They are so strong. And you can easily get how much that care for eachother.
The suspense was PERFECT. The heartbreak... unavoidable. The ending, 10/10. If you crave mystery with heart, the appearance of a cute little cat, a steamy closed door romance, and 'touch her and die' vibes... Trapped delivers in crisp fall vibes and slow-burning tension.
-- Thank you, Happily Booked for the ARC. This review was written with honesty.
Ashley had just moved back to her hometown to get her life back on track. Her plans are turned on their head when she learns the man who ghosted her in Vegas is there...
Nathan takes a job at a private investigation company in a small town, hoping for a fresh start. He still thinks about and feels terrible over the situation in Vegas...
Nathan wants a second chance with Ashley, but he needs to work out his own issues before he can ever hope to win back her trust. When Ashley disappears, Nathan springs into action. He is willing to risk everything, including his new job to find her. Will their reunion be ruined by a dangerous game of cat and mouse?
I liked the pacing in this novel and the dual POV. I'm a fan of romantic suspense, and I enjoyed the plot. I didn't feel connected to the characters, but they definitely had chemistry! Overall, Trapped was an entertaining story.
SSI book six by Eveline Rose is the bomb . And the book cover done with aplomb! I couldn’t get enough of this divine story and I’m eager to go back through the series and read the rest. I’m eager to invest my time because these band of brothers ? Sublime ! In this book we have Ashley and Nathan. Nathan Blaszek ghosted Ashley York a year ago and this bloke has thought about her ever since with a wince . A regret ,remorse . So of course he wants to make amends ,at least be friends…He’s the new Investigator on the Shepherd & Sons Investigation Bureau and his first client? Well what do you know ,the woman who has haunted him so. He wants her back but to face this he has to face his demons to earn her trust and much more because she’s gone ,and not just walked out the door gone either. He needs to make a choice his new career or seeking her out . Well he’s devout in his work but she makes his dick twerk and his heart skip a beat . Perhaps this found family is where he belongs ,is meant to be but he needs her live to set him free first. Like a long drink to quench bis thirst. Well Evelime Rose you certainly quenched mine as this awesome book of yours certainly quenched mine ,it’s divine .sublime! Well worthy of my time . Written well with a the sweet and the little heat as well as the tense and suspense to make it complete .
This was book 6 in the Sheppard and Sons Investigations series. Can it be read as a stand alone? Yes. Will you immediately be hooked and need (or better yet want) to go back and read the other 5? Yes. I absorbed this book. I read it in less than a day. I didn't want to put it down. I loved how strong and sassy Ashley was. And I loved the imperfections of Nathan. I really liked the mental health representation in this book as well. It honestly helped reminds me to use my own coping skills and few times. That's how genuine this all felt. I can't rave enough about this book. You definitely need to check it out.
Nathan’s pain & inner turmoil speak volumes, pulling you deep into his struggle. His fierce desire for life has you rooting for him, even as his alpha caveman ways make you roll your eyes. Ashley tests your patience, yet her sass & spark bring laugh-out-loud moments that balance the tension. Brotherhood, loyalty, & family pulse through the story, adding heart & strength. All the while, danger looms menacingly in the background, tightening the suspense. Watching Nathan & Ashley fight for their second chance at love keeps you turning pages.
A snarky, and sassy FMC paired with a broody, protective, alpha MMC? I'll check yes on that right away! Ashley and Nathan have such good chemistry, and you can't help but to root for them all the way.
I freaking love Ashley and how many nicknames she throws out for Nathan (Casper the f*cking Ghost is my favorite for a while), and how those nicknames change as she learns more about him and his past. This was such a high intensity read, that I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book, and I can't wait to read more from Eveline Rose!
Ashley moves home to live with her grandmother after a string of bad luck. She is out with a friend when she runs into the man who ghosted her after an unforgettable few days tougher in Vegas a year ago. To say she isn't impressed is an understatement... Nathan has just started working for Sheppard & Sons Investigations when he runs into Ashley, the woman he hasn't stopped thinking about. Can Ashley forgive Nathan and can she give him a second chance? Eveline Rose keeps you on the edge of your seat with this exciting read. I look forward to reading more from her.
Trapped by Eveline Rose is the story of Nathan and Ashley. Although they met previously in Vegas, their paths cross again in Texas.
This book is part of the series, but would work just as well as a standalone. I enjoyed this book and read it from cover to cover in one sitting. The characters were sufficiently complex and the storyline was engaging enough to hold my interest.
This seems like the perfect book to read by the pool or the beach on the sunny day. Not too heavy and not too complicated - a perfect beach read.
