"There are evil people carrying out evil acts across the world, and the only ones who can stop them are other humans. In spite of this, so many people simply turn a blind eye to the need for justice. Your new abilities are intended to aid you in the fight.” Luke let out what sounded remarkably like a frustrated sigh. “Your world will crumble around you if you do not fight back.”
Matt Reynolds knows he isn't crazy. But on the day he turns sixteen, he begins to question that assumption. First he starts seeing invisible creatures, and then he meets a stranger who tells him he needs to save the world. With the help of a few new friends and his burgeoning powers, he has just days to uncover the nefarious plot of one of the most powerful men in Madison before the balance of good and evil shifts irrevocably.
Colleen Fleshman grew up in the Midwest but has spent her adult life moving from place to place. She studied German in college, spent a year in Austria, and moved to Wisconsin to do technical support after she graduated. She is an avid traveler and has visited more than 30 countries. She used to enjoy running and completed two marathons, but she now spends most of her exercise time playing with her 3-year-old dog. She currently lives in Florida, where she is in her first year in medical school.
Colleen Fleshman has given new hopes to all left handers. If I were a left hander, I would definitely have kept on the look-out for Lucifer to come to me and recruit me as a Sinister. The book is on the concept of boy wonder saving the world. Colleen has taken simple topics like God and Devil, manipulation and made a beautiful story out of it.
Sinister is a stay-up-and-finish-it fantasy thriller. Suspenseful and unpredictable, it deals with mundane topics such as the forces of good and evil, myths and beliefs, science and folklore, and...the conundrum of free will. Matt, the teenage protagonist, is a believable, yet fantastical creation of the author's highly creative mind. His mission is dictated to him by the devil himself who argues that he is responsible for sustaining the balance between good and evil in the world. Matt must use his supernatural powers and the help of his friends as he goes back and forth between earth and hell to answer philosophically incomprehensible questions. He must also decide, between two powerful entities, who is telling the truth? Believe me...you will keep turning the pages of this book as if being controlled by someone outside your control. And who's to say you aren't?
This was a great first book in what looks to be a fun series. We're quickly introduced to an interesting set of characters and a fascinating world whose boundaries we've only just gotten a taste of. The book really picks up in the second half and is hard to put down! I'm excited to see where the next book in the series takes us!
There were a few points in the book I just skimmed over because I just didn't need the background info but there were some couple of time I was so sucked in I had to put it down and let my brain catch up. Some places say this is book one and some say it's a stand alone book. It ended well for a stand alone but would be interested in a second book.
A YA book, the first in a series. Left handed people have some special talents that allow them to help Lucifer maintain the balance of good/evil on earth.
Our main character is a teenage boy who has talents beyond the normal talents of the special left handed people. He is set a task without much background and in the course of solving the problem he makes friends with a number of people.
