A peaceful Sunday morning is transformed for gay antique dealer, Ryan Kinkaid, when he reads a report in the local newspaper of a teenage boy found dead in a field a few miles away from the Portsmouth, New Hampshire home where he lives with his partner, Ty. It‘s not where the body was found that concerns Ryan. It was the boy’s mother’s fear that her son had been killed by a bully.

Bullied himself when he was younger, Ryan feels an obligation to stand up for the victim and find the killer, even though he had promised Ty last winter that he wouldn’t get involved in any more dangerous pursuits. But his commitment falters when Andrew Colfax—Ty’s supervisor and a younger, extremely attractive man—causes Ryan to question his lover’s fidelity.

As this story unfolds and his initial assumptions are refuted, emotions that Ryan has long since suppressed return and force him to ask himself whose side he is on, the victim’s or the killer’s.

I love reading a series because it means I can watch character development, relationship development and story development in a great deal more detail than I would get in a stand alone book.
I don't know how I discovered Summer Spirit which is the first book in the Ryan Kinkaid series but I'm glad that I did. I've read all 4 books now and I've really enjoyed the series.
In this latest book Ryan and Ty are faced with relationship threats while Ryan becomes involved in the murders of local teenagers. It's all about bullying - something which never seems to disappear, no matter what age we live in.
I enjoyed both the story and the writing style. There were visits from old friends who I loved seeing and I have to admit that I adore the cat.
There are some very well written sex scenes which, to me, show a lot of love between Ryan and Ty.
We've been through all 4 seasons so I want to know where the titles go next. There is more to tell in this series Mr Jay and I want to read it.

I absolutely love this series!!!!! It's too bad the author cannot be found on any site to ask questions. Anyway, just like the previous ones l love everything about it. I think the series keep getting better and better. I hope this is not the last one. I tend to avoid writing about what the books l read are about because l give too much away. So all l will say is anybody who has not tried this series should definitely start. Highly recommended!!!

Worst book in the series

This was the worst book in the series! Still several errors, the story felt forced, and at times lost; and just wasn't the mystery you've come to expect from the other books in this series. All of these issues caused character personalities to be altered and sacrificed for the evolving plot to work; which ruined this book for me. Also, the amount of exposition is insane!

The one thing I did truly enjoy was the last few pages where Ryan is given a surprise and the friendship everyone has for one another.
