Murder at the Inn: A Beth Sanders Cozy Mystery

Rate this book
A Critic's Just Desserts... Are Deadly.

Baker Beth Sanders is whisking up delights for Windy Hollow’s prestigious Culinary Expo when infamous critic Nigel Verner's acid tongue is permanently silenced – found dead by the dock. With her own public clash with Verner putting her on the overbearing Police Chief’s half-baked suspect list, Beth, her sharp-witted best friend Penny, and ever-loyal corgi Snickers, must sift through a mess of suspects.

Could it be the fiery Chef Dubois, whose temper and online poison searches are as hot as his flambé? Or elegant Chef Bellweather, whose past botanical dealings and unique plant fibers raise more than just eyebrows? Even smooth investor Julian Croft, whose initialed pen at the scene and a devastating secret Verner held over him looks like a recipe for disaster.

And when Croft’s slick investigator, Rick Doyle, starts stirring the pot, the recipe for disaster is complete.

Can she piece together the truth before a killer with a taste for vengeance serves her the final course?

Murder at the Inn: A Beth Sanders Cozy Mystery (Windy Hollow Mysteries Book 1)
by Iris Kingsley

I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Murder at the Inn is another charming installment in Iris Kingsley’s cozy mystery series featuring Beth Sanders, the baker behind Sweets and Treats in Windy Hollow. When notoriously unpleasant culinary critic Nigel Verner is found dead after dishing out his usual harsh reviews, the town is stirred into a frenzy.

Though the police are eager to label the death an accident, Beth, her friends, and her loyal Corgi sidekick, Snickers aren’t convinced. With a growing list of chefs who had both motive and opportunity, Beth and her close-knit circle of friends find themselves racing to uncover the truth before someone else gets burned.

The twists and turns keep the reader guessing, and the charming small-town setting adds warmth and depth to the mystery. The tension never overwhelms the cozy feel, and the stakes feel real as Beth pieces the puzzle together.

The book cover is delightful and perfectly captures the feel of the story. Overall, this was a satisfying, entertaining read. A must for cozy mystery fans—especially those who love a culinary twist!

The author Iris Kingsley has you quessing right from the start as to who could be the murderer. The victim is a nasty food critic Nigel Verner who make more enemies than friends. He has broke more chef and their businesses just because can. There is aCulinary Expo in Windy Hollow and Nigel just can not seem to be nice to anyone even the small town baker. When he turns up dead the chief of police just wants it to be accident and get on with the Expo. But there is something off about this death. Manny and Beth can see that and conltinue to look into it. There are so many people who could of murdered Nigel but it is every hard for them to find out who it is. I love how Iris Kingsley keeps you quessing as to who it is right up till the end. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery.

While participating in the Windy Hollow Culinary Expo, baker Beth Sanders becomes entangled in the mysterious death of an obnoxious food critic. When digging for clues with her friends Beth and Penny, they learn that several people had a motive for murdering Nigel Verner. Can they pinpoint the culprit before someone else perishes.

Kingsley does an excellent job of weaving an engaging plot with plenty of zigzags between suspects. It keeps the reader on their toes as they attempt to figure out the culprit. I highly recommend this book to lovers of cozy mysteries.

Enjoyable book by an author new to me. I look forward to reading the other books in the series.

Note: This is *not* the first in the series. The first in the series is “Murder in Windy Hollow.” This is the second in the series. All of the number sequences in Goodreads is wrong.

1. “Murder in Windy Hollow”
2. “Murder at the Inn”
3. “Murder at the Manor”
4. “Murder at the Tower”

Also, on Page 138 of the Kindle version: “debate over the optimal cinnamon-to-nutmeg ratio.” Both spices should not be given to dogs due to potential for toxicity.

I couldn’t locate a direct method to contact Iris.

I loved this deadly sweet cozy mystery! Honestly, Nigel Verner got what was coming to him, and I feel no sympathy for his “unfortunate” death. Beth needs a pay raise for figuring out who the correct suspect was, because Lord knows the police chief was absolutely clueless. My favorite character was Beth’s Furry and lovable sidekick Snickers the corgi. It’s sad when a dog provides more insight to an ongoing investigation rather than the police force. Overall, this was a great read, and I look forward to reading the second installment - Murder At The Manor.

At the Culinary Expo a nasty food critic turns up dead. Beth ends up as a suspect. Will she clear her name and find the murderer? With help from Penny and Snickers that is the plan. After receiving an ARC I have written this voluntary review.

An excellent tail twister

A Culinary expo where chef egos and backgrounds are exposed. A food critical is found dead in the lake (those who can't cook criticize those who can) . The critic has enough enemies but narrow the, down will lead you to a suprize ending.
