A Daring Gamble: Ava's Story

Rate this book
When the adventure of a lifetime turns into a nightmare, can one country girl overcome heartbreak to risk it all again?

Hawaii. 1941. When Ava McAllen goes to Oahu, she knows working for her Uncle will hamper her freedom. But there’s no lack of fun as she explores the island, goes to parties and lounges at the beach. Stories of the war in Europe are very distant indeed.

And when a dashing pilot sweeps her off her feet and drops to one knee, life feels like a fairytale. Almost.

Then a shocking attack on Pearl Harbor wakes everyone from their slumber one fateful Sunday morning, and in an instant her entire future goes up in smoke.

With the world in chaos, with rules and expectations shifting, nothing feels certain anymore. Mother wants her to come home, but for the first time in her life, she’s questioning everything and everyone. Does she even want the white picket fence she’s been raised to pursue? And when someone holds out his hand as a friend, is her heart ready to consider the possibility of being happy again?

The islands drew her with the allure of adventure and excitement, but they’ve become her proving ground during the most tumultuous time history.

A Daring Gamble is the first book in a new historical romance trilogy. If you like dramatic confrontations and heart-rending, raw emotions, you’ll love the first installment of MaryAnna Rose’s long-awaited trilogy of world war two in the pacific.

I liked the story, but the numerous grammatical errors (which a good editor should have caught) really frustrated me. The ending was abrupt - I felt the story wasn’t complete.
