Black Cat #22

Gratitude

Rate this book
Kathy has been through the wringer - but she's come out on the other side. A new day has dawned. There's fresh coffee, a warm donut, and a wealth of opportunities.

Gratitude is the twenty-second entry in the Salem Massachusetts Mini Mystery series. The start of this series is The Lucky Cat. These short stories are being written and loaded one a day from October 1 through October 31, 2014. All author's proceeds from this series benefit battered women's shelters.

Lisa has lived in scenic Massachusetts since 1986, with only two brief forays out of state. One of Lisa’s ancestors was Ann Foster, who died during the Salem Witch Trials. Ann Foster was a grandmother by that time and sacrificed herself to protect her daughter and granddaughter. Ann had been born in England, came over in 1635, and was 75 by the time of the trials. Salem reached its dark depths during those trials from 1692-1693 - but since then has healed, blossomed, and shines. It now features the amazing Peabody Essex Museum, a plethora of gorgeous historic architecture, and a beautiful coastline. It's well worth a visit. If you can't go in person, take a virtual trip through Lisa's first-hand descriptions!

As Kathy and Lenny spend an intimate night together, they (gasp) talk. A lot. About their disparate upbringings, their difficulties, and their similarities.

It’s great to see race handled in an accurate and mature way; that’s not always the case with this author.

After the couple gets back into town, it’s definitely time for coffee and donuts.

At the flower shop, Lenny selects lavender roses that resemble lotuses. And they see Heloise again.

Heloise presents the caper—who would pilfer her beautiful flowers? And only one single flower a day?

When they swing by the yoga studio, the pair encounter Jyoti and Pema. And then things begin to fall into place.

Cute ending; glad to see them happy together again.

And did Lenny spot Kathy before he’d even made their introductions??

The language of flowers

Not as good as some of the others. Felt that the plot was just a bit weak. She and Lenny have talked through their problems and they feel that their relationship has been revitalised. Walking back to get closer to the pub they stop at a flower shop. Only to see one of the card sharks there. She has some magnificent purple lotus like blooms and he immed6wants to buy her a bouquet. However when they are counted there are only 11 and not 12. Apparently this isn't the first time this has happened. Who would be taking just one bloom. As they walk on they meet their yogi and she tells them that her new assistant has been bringing her one daily. Is she taking them without the owners knowledge or payment? Can they find out?

More!

I continue to enjoy these stories, and have come to enjoy the side characters almost as much as the protagonist. Any one of them could make a good jumping on point, and they are particularly good when I only have a few minutes to read.
