Not just for Thanksgiving, this useful cookbook has down-home, relatable recipes for many dishes that we may be familiar with but have no idea how to prepare ourselves. With so many families separated during the holidays this year (2020), it is great to have step by step instructions for family favorites that the "older generation" prepared for us. From appetizers to desserts, I found the cookbook interesting as well as helpful.
Thanksgiving Is Coming Every year, while growing up, I heard how I had ruined Thanksgiving. How did I do this? By being born. It was my parent's first married Thanksgiving and I was born on that very day. My dad got a great meal at his parents' house and my mom was only allowed what they would give her in the hospital.
Flash forward 39 years and my youngest is born, 2 days before my birthday and 3 before Thanksgiving. I was asked what I was going to do for my birthday the next year. I told the nurses, no offense (they were the best ever) I was staying far away!
Now, for Thanksgiving, we celebrate my daughter's birthday and my birthday on Thanksgiving Day with a full Turkey meal and other things. We love this and day and all that comes with it. My father-in-law, brother-in-law and sister-in-law will be here for the day and we will have a lot of fun and food.
I am always on the lookout for something new and different to add to the meal.
I did like the book, but I didn't see anything I could add that we didn't already make or that we could actually have.
It was a free purchase from Amazon and I do recommend getting a copy, maybe there would be something you would enjoy.
I just read through this book without cooking any of the recipes. There are quite a few that look like they could be really good. If it is any indication of the recipes, the recipe I use for cornbread dressing is in this book. I know that recipe is really good. The one for chicken pot pie is very similar to my wife's recipe and that one is always a hit. I book marked several that I am looking forward to trying. I expect they too will be quite tasty. Most of the recipes in this book seem easy enough for those of us that are not chefs. I feel very confident that I can prepare the ones I plan to try.
Most Thanksgiving Cookbooks assume you are cooking for a multitude. But what if you're an empty-nester whose kids are visiting the other in-laws this year? What if this is your first Thanksgiving away from your parental home? This contains the answers. Small servings so you aren't eating leftovers for the next six weeks. You can find more recipes to use for Christmas or Chanukah, again avoiding the leftovers forever quandary. Recommended for all readers.
25 Easy Thanksgiving Recipes by Hannie P. Scott TOC where recipes are not in any specific order. Free ebook offer. Abbreviations and conversions are listed. Each recipe starts with a title and servings. List of ingredients are included and you should be able to substitute for your healthier dietary needs: low sodium, low fat, low sugar and fresh vs. canned items. Directions are given and there are NO pics and NO nutritional information. Like the ideas here because you can make your own cranberry sauce instead of getting it from a can. Other works listed by the author, at the end.
this is a rather uninteresting collection of recipes. some aren't even Thanksgiving-ish: meatloaf, really? chicken pot pie? The rest are fairly pedestrian. the only one that was somewhat interesting to me was the apple-stuffed pork chops but not for Thanksgiving. disappointing selection and not seasonal.
There's a lot of recipes that I really wouldn't try. There's maybe 4 or 5 I saved to try. There's a bunch of recipes that call for vinegar or apple cider vinegar. And I don't understand why??? Was a quick read. Interesting to see the different takes on things I already cook.
Enjoyed trying several of these recipes. Been married for 56 year s and always wanted to learn how to make a chic ken pot pie. It turned out great. Thanks. Diane
