One day Shawny steals a magazine from the corner dairy, and then a pair of sandals from the mall. Soon she can't seem to stop stealing even though she knows it's wrong. Julia Owen was born in Auckland on Christmas Eve, 1960. She finished her primary education while her family was living in Rarotonga, before returning to Howick. In 1996 Julia took a six-month course called Te tuhi tuhi ma nga tamariki: writing for children in Mâori and English, at Rawene Polytech. Julia is the mother of four boys and currently lives in the Hokianga being a farmer and writer.
