A Captive Flame #1

The Runaway Bride

Rate this book
It's the day of her wedding, and Rhonda Klass is anything but excited. Sitting in a bar, downing shots, contemplating married life, she makes a decision; one that will change the direction of her life forever.

Impulsive as ever, she sneaks onto a nearby private runaway, and stows away on a private jet. Planning to bluff her way around as a flight attendant, she overlooked one thing: the reclusive and enigmatic billionaire Krystopher Danes knows his flight attendants by name...

Soon, the impudent and repentant Rhonda is in a bind; she knows she's done wrong, but is her billionaire lover the one man able correct her?

This is a extremely steamy, sordid BDSM infused novel from best-selling author Ashley Spector. Filled with graphically described depictions of a dominating billionaire, a submissive spouse-to-be, and their salacious travails, it is for adults only!

so, apparently you run away from your wedding bc???? i don't even know why???

then you hide in this private jet that's going to God knows where,

but you're really fucking stupid so you just go in there and pretend you can pull it off,

but then you get caught

and the guy is really sexy

so obviously this is going to lead to a "punishment"

you apparently let him fucking rip your dress into fucking pieces and let him fucking punish you, without a second thought.

oh wait, you obviously like it so much that you agree to fucking be his fucking slave when you only fucking met him twenty fucking minutes ago

i mean who the fuck cares if the guy could be a fucking serial killer, you lurveeeee the way he fucksssss you and "punishes" you.

this book is terrible.

I picked this one up because it was free...and it sounded good...and it said it was a novel about a runaway bride and the Dominant billionaire who she becomes involved with when she hides in his private jet. Well to be honest it started off that way...however, it was not a complete novel but part of another series and ends on a CLIFFHANGER. It was not mentioned at all in the synopsis that it was not a standalone and I have said this many times before...full disclosure is appreciated before I read anything. I am an avid reader of all things that are edgy, gritty, dark/romantic/erotic/suspenseful and yet, I am not a fan of the serials and will not read them unless I know going in what to expect. Consider this my PSA to other readers =)
This book started off light and funny...Rhonda, a bride-to-be is sitting in the hotel bar throwing back alcohol and trying to decide if she wants to go through with her wedding to a "nice guy" with a good job and who treats her kindly. Something is missing though, so she does the stupid thing, ditches the wedding and sneaks into the luggage hold of a private jet. Enter Krystopher...who takes this discovery as an opportunity to start playing Master/Slave with Rhonda and that's when the novella becomes just erotica with very little storyline.
This would be more of an adult bedtime story in my opinion and although entertaining for what it is, I wish more of the struggles between Rhonda and Krystopher were explored and especially when a third party comes into the picture, and the story just abruptly ends at the really good part (not the sex but the conflict), I felt cheated.
If you like a lot of kink and BDSM with your sex scenes, this book is for you since it is heavy on action and light on plot so far.

Rushed

This book had a great storyline. I thought that I would love it but it seemed rushed. She was so accepting and I understood it was apart of his commending charm but it left me feeling unsettled. Then everything came crashing down without a real ending.

The history is too lengthy, too many words together. It seems like the story goes on and on without stopping.

Once I saw the Synopsis of this book, I thought this was going to be amazing... But I was let down by all the "this shit would never, not in a billion years happen" things throughout the story. I hated the main character, I mean, at first she kind of struggled with the fact that she was leaving her husband, but as soon as she 'met' the billionaire, she was like "yeah, I left my groom at the alter, but hey, I'm just having fun with this rich dude I just met", so to me she wasn't a strong character at all, and she lacked morals and self love. The first time she got punished by Krystopher was in fact full on rape and not sexy at all... And the fact that she would take that because the guy was cute and rich was just another way of making me hate Rhonda even more. And Krystopher was not charming at all, he was just a control freak and it seemed to me that he would really just hump any girl that got in his way, because come on!!! How can he just ask for a girl he met because she snuck into his plane to be his slave? He's a billionaire, isn't he afraid she might be danger not only to him but to his entire company? He doesn't know her, or anything about her for that matter...
Honestly, this book tried to have a storyline just to support the sex scenes, when in fact, when you take out the bullshit of the story and leave just the sex, this could actually be a really fun bdsm romance about a girl who can't quite deal with being controlled and her master who takes pleasure in that...
I don't know, I just feel like an erotic romance defers of porn by the fact that even if you take the explicit sex scenes, the story would still be a fun thing to read, but in this case, there's no story to tell, you don't fall in love with the character and you're the entire book feeling sorry for poor Johnny who's clearly a nice guy and didn't deserve to be left by this selfish, stupid, egocentric and narcissistic woman...
I don't think I'll be reading the next one, unless it's free and I feel bored to death...

Urgh. This guy is nothing less than abusive. And yes, I know that this is supposed to be a BDSM book, and that's all fine. But where's the respect for the woman in the sex scenes? The option to refuse? A safe word? Aftercare? Thanking her for her surrender and submission? Making her feel safe before, during, and after?

None of the above occur. NONE. In the end, it's just some rich guy with a big dick tying up, beating, and then abandoning a woman. Yeah, I said 'abandoned'. He chains her up, naked, then walks out the door for hours.

Smart, sexy, informed, consensual BDSM is hot. This is abuse. I don't find abuse sexy.

Poor Imitation of 50 Shades of Grey

Very poorly written BDSM. The dominant is way too cruel, while the subservient is shallow, weak, and too dull for my taste. The storyline is not well thought out, the introduction is missing insofar as there isn't a lead in, and the cliffhanger leaves you without an ending.

Awesome story

I enjoyed the book very much. I was surprised he wanted to choose her clothes even. I was very surprised Johnny came and was able to gain access to the locked room. Wow

Wow talk about intense. I was not expecting Johnny to show up after she left him at the alter. Her life changed so drastically in just a few days. I wonder what it will lead her to.

This book had so much potential yet fell short. There was no depth to either of the main characters, nothing really captivating about them to urge you to get the next book in the series.
