Skin Deep: Episode Five

Rate this book
Stuart Jones has a reputation—take a guy on a date, get him into bed, and then forget him. He’s grown up tough, both on the outside and in, and he has no room in his life for emotional distractions.

And then he meets Danny, and he can’t take his eyes off him. Doesn’t want to. Wants nothing more than to get to know Danny, everything about him—has no real idea why he’s so desperate for it but he can’t ignore it, this feeling thrumming through his veins…this emotion. Because Danny’s the one to slip under the wire, to get beneath Stuart’s skin, to make him want .

Only Danny’s got a pretty major hang-up—he can't be touched, not intimately. He suffered a trauma two years ago and he hasn’t let anyone near him since. And it’s not just mental scars he’s battling—he wears on his body the physical reminder of what happened to him, something he never thought he’d let any man see. But Stuart’s not just any man, and he might just be the one to help Danny battle his demons and take control of his desires once again.

This review will be mostly a general review of entire series.

If someone had taken the time to edit and check and double check for errors I would have considered giving 4 stars. There were so many errors though out the entire series that I almost gave it 2 stars. The relationship between the two MCs and the patience of Stuart made me give the 3 stars.

Danny is the victim of a violent crime and suffers severe PTSD. He and his friend Richard run a catering business. Richard knew Danny before the Incident. He takes care of Danny. Maybe he could be called an enabler. Stuart, a club owner, was mesmerized by Danny from their first meeting. He reaches out to Danny.

The room was dark, and warm, and Danny let his whole weight sink into the mattress, hugged a pillow to his chest and buried his face in it. Air whispered against his bare arse cheeks, the sweat-damp skin of his back, and he shivered when a large, roughened hand slid up his side and back down, gripped his hip.

"Relax for me, Danny," Stuart murmured from behind him, above him. His breath was hot against Danny's shoulder blades. "I'm gonna make you feel good."

But Danny's PTSD won't let him be touched. Stuart has an idea, a way to have some intimacy with Danny. Not sure of it working, Danny promises to try. It is not easy for either of them. There is mis-communication and interference by Richard. Danny does not feel that anyone could want him because of his physical and emotional scars. He does trust Stuart.

Danny looked surprised when he opened the door, shocked to find Stuart on the other side of it. It made Stuart feel a weird sort of pain in his chest, that Danny was so unsure of him, of them. That he would even consider that Stuart could vanish from his life, just because he perceived himself as imperfect, when in reality he was the most beautiful thing in Stuart's world.

I read all of the series one right after the other. I had too.

Although a few more typos were missed in these final three installments compared to the first three, the storyline remained solid. I was a tad disappointed that the primary tension lay in repeated misunderstandings that led to the on-again, off-again nature of the MCs' relationship, but the dialogue written to get them back on track kept it within the realm of believability, or at least, go-along-with-it-ness.

Great

You will just fall in love with these characters. Danny and Stuart are sizzling hot together. I also loved Neil's character. He added the comic relief and filled the tough guy role so well.
