There are 17 Chapters and a chapter on essential resources. The book covers the origin, its operations in the Tocoran prison, the village of San Vincente, a chapter of who's who and its almost destruction. I say almost for a reason. There is a bit of redundancy, however that is necessary in order to stay consistent with the topics of each chapter. There are several insights that can be gleaned - no spoilers. The evolution and adaptability of this organization is very interesting and supports the insights on the trends cited in Urban Warfare. Although many declare the distinct separation of insurgency with crime, in many cases the overarching principal triggers are seemingly the same - economic distress / disfunction, social disenfranchisement, political chaos and instability. Like insurgents, the gangs fill immediate power, stability, culture and social needs and have many supporters, but as time goes on, the true face of the insurgency or gangs becomes all too apparent. Without beating this horse to death, there needs to be policy changes that can support and enable Law Enforcement Agencies and Officers. The military and law enforcement has been forced to operate along grey lines that straddle crime and war -war, because every element of doctrine - DOTMLPF-P or PMESII - PT has been weaponized by gangs and insurgents.

Lastly, my only complaint is that each chapter has numbered citations, yet, there are no footnotes or endnotes that back up those citations. I have written to the World of Crime and Amazon about this, but have yet to receive a reply. All in all, a good case study

The most complete, in-depth, up to date and thorough write-up of the Tren de Aragua criminal outfit. A must-read for anyone wishing to understand the evolution of organised crime emerging from South America.
