Zara Storm writes fantasy romance with dark, compelling heroes and sassy, competent heroines. Her debut series is The Gold Weaver series. Zara loves fast-paced books with adventure, magic, strong characters, a rough-edged hero, and spicy romance.

If you are searching for an addictive, high-stakes romantasy series, look no further than Zara Storm’s incredible world. Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams is the third installment of this gripping saga, and it raises the bar in every imaginable way. With an intricate blend of political intrigue, unstable ancient magic, and a romance that burns with white-hot intensity, Storm delivers a story that will keep you turning the pages.
Picking up in the chaotic aftermath of the previous books, Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams finds our resilient heroine, Ana Angevire, facing her darkest trial yet. Instead of ruling her kingdom, Ana is caged in the heart of the Temple—a prisoner of the ruthless zealot who slaughtered her family and aims to erase her very legacy from history. Her physical body is breaking, and her magic is dangerously unraveling. Yet, even behind bars, Ana refuses to bow. Her survival and her kingdom's reclamation rest on an uneasy alliance with the last person she ever expected to trust: Leonidas Claerwyn, the brutal Fae prince she once swore to destroy. As Leon mounts a bloody rescue, the real battle begins. To reclaim her throne, Ana must unite a fractured army of traitors, liars, and monsters, all while navigating a profound, shifting bond with Leon that she can no longer fight.
Watching Ana’s evolution over the course of these three books has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the series. She began her journey driven by a singular, rigid desire for freedom. However, her character arc to date highlights an incredible transformation from a solitary survivor into a true, strategic leader. In this installment, we see a much more mature, complex side of Ana. She is no longer just fighting out of hatred for her enemies; she is fighting for the future of her people and learning the heavy cost of leadership. Her vulnerability in dealing with her unstable magic shows immense psychological depth. Ana's growth isn't about becoming invincible; it’s about her willingness to adapt, to trust, and to accept the terrifying reality of falling for the enemy she once targeted.
What truly elevates Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams above its predecessors is the expansion of perspectives. For the first time, we get a point-of-view from Corrin, and it is absolute perfection. Getting a look into the mind of a secondary character adds so much texture to the world-building and offers an objective, fascinating outside look at the central conflict. Corrin's voice is distinct, engaging, and provides crucial depth to the overarching plot. Additionally, returning to Sophos’ perspective in this book is incredibly rewarding. We watch firsthand how things are rapidly changing for him, revealing internal conflicts and shifting loyalties that keep the tension taut. Storm balances these multiple viewpoints beautifully, ensuring that every shift in perspective moves the plot forward and heightens the emotional stakes.
The romantic tension between Ana and Leon reaches a fever pitch in this book, evolving into something deeply moving, complicated, and utterly irresistible. The pacing is relentless, the magic system feels alive and dangerous, and the secondary characters are so well-developed that you become entirely invested in their individual fates.
True to form, Zara Storm leaves us breathless, ending this third book on another massive, agonizing cliffhanger. The stakes have never been higher for this cast of characters, and the final pages will leave you desperate for answers. I know I will be grabbing the next book the absolute second I can to find out what happens to them all. If you haven't started this series yet, this is your sign to dive in. It is a thrilling, beautifully written romantasy that stands out as a must-read for fans of the genre. Highly recommended!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
Book 3 of the Fated to the Sun and Stars series absolutely delivered. Ana and Leon are back as our main characters, and the story picks up right where the previous book left off. Ana imprisoned by Temple, tortured by the Grand Bearer while Loen is desperately trying to find her.
The story is written in multiple PoVs, and we get some new PoVs compared to the previous books, which I really enjoyed.
I’m huge a fan of Caledon (The Grand Bearer) as the main villain, he is terrifying and those brainwashed zealots? The perfect sinister touch.
The book is packed with action, romance, found family and friendship tropes, and maybe even with some new romance couple on the horizon? The side characters were spot-on and added so much to the story.
But those last chapters? Absolutely wrecked me and I need the next book immediately!
Huge thanks to Zara Storm for the ARC, it was a great ride and all opinions are my own and please send the next book NOW!!!
4⭐️ WOW. a truly wild ride from zara storm. i mean, she really put our crew through it with this book. the continuation of the fated for sun & stars series has everything zara is known for: fast pacing, dark themes, romance, magical fights, & twists & turns paired with a gnarly cliffhanger ending. the action goes until the very end with this one. she also had more POVs in this book than I'm used to from her, but she managed the changes well. multiple POVs is essential to understanding the plot in this novel & it allowed her to develop the side characters more, which i really enjoyed. i hope they all get their happy endings in the end
tropes: fae-human relationships, bonds, dark fantasy, he will do anything to protect her, recovering from betrayals, PTSD, queer rep [side characters], CLIFF HANGER ENDING
2🌶️ pretty standard adult romance spice-wise. there were more scenes than usual, but they are all pretty short - maybe like 2-3 pages, and they aren't overly detailed. ideal for a wide audience and easily skipped for those that prefer closed door. she's still 18+ though. cw: none
thank you to zara storm/booksprout for this ARC. i'm voluntarily leaving a review containing my honest opinion
Ana swore that she was going to end him. Now Ana finds that she's risking everything to fight beside him.
Ana Angevire knows that she should be dead already.
Instead, she finds herself caged in the heart of a Temple, the prisoner of the very zealot who murdered her family and is seeking to erase her name from the annals of history. Now Ana finds that her own magic is unravelling, her body is breaking, and her kingdom that she's been fighting to protect is now slipping through her fingers.
And yet – Ana refuses to bow to anyone.
Ana's only hope now lies with the very last person she should ever trust, Leonidas Clearwyn, the fae prince Ana had once sworn she was going to destroy.
And Leonidas does come for Ana. Bleeding, brutal, and burning with his own promise of vengeance.
But Ana's rescue is only the beginning.
There is a war brewing on the horizon and an ancient magic is rising. Ana now has to rally an army of liars, traitors, and monsters to take back her throne, all while her own powers remain unstable. Ana's allies are fractured. But, her bond with Leon does grow stronger day by day – and it twists into something that Ana no longer understands and something Ana can no longer fight against.
The world wants to see Ana broken. Fate wants to see Ana bound.
And for Ana, the only thing that might be more dangerous than falling for her enemy...is what they become together.
Tropes: Secret Royal, Found Family, Elemental Magic, Political Intrigue, and Spice.
Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams is the 3rd book in the Fated to the Sun and Stars series by Zara Storm. Boy oh boy, let me tell you, this book gives us so much action and we get to see a lot more depth to our villain finally.
“That’s what being with Leon means—always being found, always being put back together again when I’m coming apart.”
At the start of this story, we find our lovely FMC Ana in a rather precarious situation. She has been captured by the very zealot who murdered her family and is now on the cusp of seeing her entire family line wiped from the annals of history as he wants. While the zealot keeps Ana locked up, she is being held in the Temple.
Leon is doing everything in his power to search for Ana and find her before it's too late. While Leon is searching for Ana, their fae friends come up with their own plan to find Ana. They all learn far too quickly how far the Grand Bearer is willing to go to become the “God” he thinks that he's owed to become. Of course, his means to becoming this so-called “God” is at the cost of the life of the most innocent.
Will Leon and their fae friends be able to stop Caledon before he has the opportunity to touch a single one of these poor souls?
I have to say that I just loved this book so much. The deepening connection between Ana and Leon, and the new relationship that we get to see forming. Some are made known at this time, and others are still figuring things out.
And the trip that Ana and Leon took to Agathyre and getting to see Etusca again, oh I just loved that so much. That was such an amazing trip.
Ana is a strong and amazing FMC. And we have seen Ana endure so much and she goes through so much in this book. And yet, when she feels like she just wants to give up, curl up and hide from the world, Ana finds a way to persevere and finds the strength to keep going on her mission.
One of the things that I really enjoyed about this book was that we got the opportunity to have a POV chapter from Corrin. That was just perfect and I really enjoyed that.
Poor Sophos, I kind of feel for him. I'm really hoping that he will finally make his own move in the final book.
I can promise you that if you love a series with secret royalty, elemental magic, fae political intrigue, and of course there is spice to love and enjoy, so if you love and enjoy all this, then this is the series to pick up. You'll love this book and this entire series, I can promise you that.
I can't wait for the 4th and final book. I have been loving this series. Zara Storm is such a phenomenal storyteller and I love all the books that she writes and I can't wait to see what she writes after this series.
Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams by Zara Storm is a high-stakes third installment in the Fated to the Sun and Stars series, picking up immediately after the previous book’s cliffhanger. Narrated with intense emotion and grit by Jessie Elwyn and Christopher Andrews, the story follows Ana Angevire, a queen without a throne, as she finds herself caged and tortured within a Temple by the villainous Grand Bearer, Caledon.
While Ana’s magic unravels and her kingdom slips through her fingers, her only hope lies with Leonidas Clearwyn. Once the fae prince she swore to destroy, Leon has now become her fiercest protector, burning with his own promise of vengeance as he risks everything to find her. Their bond, forged in blood and fire, deepens into something inescapable and dangerous, forcing them to navigate a connection that is as powerful as it is unpredictable.
The narrative expands in this volume through multiple points of view, introducing new perspectives that enrich the world-building and offer fresh insights into the looming conflict. These side characters and the themes of found family provide a necessary balance to the darker elements of the plot, such as the terrifying, brainwashed zealots who serve as Caledon’s sinister instruments of control.
As an ancient magic rises and a war brews on the horizon, Ana must rally an army of monsters and traitors to reclaim her throne while her own powers remain dangerously unstable. The tension builds toward a series of final chapters that are emotionally devastating, leaving readers and listeners desperate for the next chapter of the saga.
Jessie Elwyn and Christopher Andrews’ performances perfectly capture the vulnerability and strength of the protagonists, elevating the story’s themes of survival and sacrifice. It is a gripping continuation that balances romantic tension with the brutal realities of a kingdom on the brink of ruin.

Atmospheric, Emotional, and Intriguing – A Captivating Read, Even for Newcomers
Prisoners of Darkness and Dreams by Zara Storm is a beautifully written, emotionally rich fantasy that pulled me in despite the fact that I haven’t read the previous books in the series. Coming in blind can sometimes be disorienting, but Storm’s prose and storytelling style made it surprisingly easy to find my footing in this vivid and immersive world.
Right from the start, I was struck by the atmosphere. There’s a dreamlike quality to the writing—lush, sometimes dark, and always laced with emotion. The themes of longing, identity, captivity (both physical and emotional), and hope are threaded throughout the story with care and depth.
Although I didn’t have the full context from earlier books, I never felt completely lost. There were moments where I could tell prior knowledge would have enriched the experience—especially with certain character dynamics or bits of world-building—but it didn’t take away from the impact of the story. In fact, it’s a testament to Storm’s writing that the emotional resonance still came through so strongly.
The characters are compelling and layered. There’s a quiet intensity to their interactions, and I appreciated the way the romantic or intimate elements were handled—not rushed, but simmering beneath the surface with real feeling. The tension, both internal and external, was palpable throughout.
The pacing felt a little slow in a few spots, but overall the story kept me engaged, and by the end I found myself curious to go back and explore the earlier books to see what I’ve missed.
Zara Storm has a poetic, emotionally intelligent voice as a writer, and Prisoners of Darkness and Dreams stands as a strong installment that can still resonate with readers who are just discovering her work. I’m giving it four stars for its beautiful writing, emotional complexity, and the fact that it made me want to explore the rest of the series.
There are audiobooks you enjoy… and then there are the ones that take you hostage. Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams did not ask permission. It simply claimed my attention and refused to let go.
We return to Ana and Leon with no gentle easing in. Ana is imprisoned, brutalised, pushed to her limits, while Leon is out there tearing through the world trying to find her. The tension is immediate, sharp, and unrelenting. This story moves fast and it never loosens its grip. Every chapter feels like a held breath.
Zara Storm leans harder into the dark here, and it works. The stakes feel heavier, the emotions cut deeper, and the villain is given more space to unsettle you in the best way. There is something almost suffocating about the atmosphere, like the story is closing in around you. The expansion into multiple POVs was such a strong choice. It adds depth, clarity, and emotional weight, especially for the side characters. Corrin’s chapters in particular stood out, and I found myself quietly hoping every single one of them gets their moment of peace by the end of this series.
And then there is Ana and Leon. Their connection continues to deepen in a way that feels both fierce and fragile. His devotion is unwavering, almost feral in its intensity, and Ana’s resilience is nothing short of extraordinary. Together, they are equal parts heartbreak and hope.
The audio elevates everything. Jessie Elwyn and Christopher Andrews, performing in duet, deliver what might be their strongest performance yet. There is a rawness to their delivery that captures both the tenderness and the brutality of this world. The intimacy of the duet format pulls you closer, like you are inside the moment rather than just listening to it. The action does not slow, the emotions do not soften, and that ending… absolutely ruthless
Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams by Zara Storm ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
She claimed her crown… but now Ana has to fight to keep it. A Queen without a throne. A warrior cut off from her magic. A prisoner in a temple built to break her — but oh, she’s endured worse, and this time she’s not alone 👑
Leon, her fire, her fury, her fae prince of ruin 🔥 Their bond forged in blood and magic, deepening with every heartbeat… and it’s dangerously beautiful 😮💨
This book picks up right where the last left off, and honestly? The instant heartbreak had me screaming. Like WHAT?! 💔😭 So unexpected and so perfectly devastating.
Ana’s growth in this book… just chef’s kiss. The way she faces her inner demons, her power, her destiny.. I loved every moment of her finding herself again. And her bond with Leon (and I mean bond in every sense 😉) had me melting.
“I’ve been yours since the day we met, when you stood up to me in a little tavern in the backend of nowhere. I didn’t know it then, but you’d hooked me, and I never had a chance of getting free. And every day since, you’ve just laid another claim to my heart, until it’s completely, unquestionably yours.” 🫠🫠🫠 I. AM. OBSESSED.
And can we talk about the Corrin POV chapters?! 🙌🏼 YES. YES. YES. I didn’t know I needed them but now I cannot live without them. Zara, my love, please give my boy some happiness in the next book because those chapters… whew 😏🔥
That cliffhanger though?! 🤯 I’m not okay. I repeat — NOT. OKAY.
Also… Caledon. Massive 💩. That is all.
If you love fae princes, broken queens, fiery bonds, magic, and heartbreak that makes you fall harder every page, then this series is an absolute must.
Another great installment of this series. We really dive into the topic of how trauma doesn’t only affect you on the outside. Ana goes through a lot during this book. After being tortured by Caledon, her magic buries itself deep within herself. We get a trip to a new kingdom in hopes of finding a way to reignite her celestial power, while along the way, trying to gain new allies.
Also, we start this book off without an absolute gut wrenching heartbreak 💔 😫 like, I did NOT see that coming and it honestly affected me the rest of the book! I was heartbroken and angry.
WE.GET.CORRIN.POV.CHAPTERS!!!! Yes yes and yes! Honestly, one of my favorite parts of the book. His and Damina’s chemistry is blasting off the page! I neeeeed more of them next book!!! Corrin is a breath of fresh air character in here and I love him 😍
We also get other couples pop up and I love kind of seeing the different pairings, outside of just Ana and Leon. They’re still the main focus and their love and devotion to each other is magnetic but I like getting a little of other characters too. Alastor has also become a favorite of mine ❤️ would love POV chapter from him!
The spice 🌶️ is there but felt like it took a small step back this book. There’s multiple scenes but I didn’t connect with them as much as books 1&2. My man Leon was absolutely FERAL books 1&2 and felt like we didn’t get that as much this book.
Can’t wait for the 4th and final book of this! Have loved this story through and through.
This one took a bit of a darker turn, and Zara really put her characters through the test. The book is still fast paced and action packed. I enjoyed the Corrin chapters and that he is part of the team! I also enjoyed that we are seeing another side to Damia (I could take or leave the romance here, we have many couple already and I in my gut I feel that Tira and Fairon are going to be thing somehow)
Ana really was coming into her own and healing in this book which is needed. But now I really really need to know what is going to happen in the next book.
What made this get 4 instead of 5 stars was 2 things.....
1. For all that occured in this book, I felt like Ana and Leon really didn't accomplish much and they still somehow are always falling for traps. Who is the weasel in their group? They have a walking truth detector, I think double checking loyalty after the events of book 2 should have happened.
2. Having Leon still hiding shit from Ana. It was such a focus when they were "enemies" in book 1, and even in book 2 it was still an issue. But again? really? I thought we had moved past it. Especially since it was made to be a big deal, but then it was swept under the fridge all was fine super quickly. It felt like it just didnt even need to be part of this book for tension, there was enough tension throughout the book without this miscommunication trope.
Finally able to start catching up on/finishing this series, and Zara Storm has done it again. She strikes the perfect balance between action and romance and her characters are top-tier. Zara writes a great supporting character and SC's like Damia, Corrin, and Alastor really help make this book and this series the joy to read that it is.
This book was definitely darker than the first two and I honestly wasn't prepared for it--the scenes where Ana is being tortured for information are visceral and vivid, so please take care when approaching this book. Just know that there is some super uncomfortable scenes that play out for several chapters. However, it was really nice to see Ana face her trauma and find a way to cope with her PTSD.
The romance is just ugh, *chef's kiss*, and not just between Leon and Ana--their romance is equal parts sweet, romantic, and very hot--but also between Alastor and Harman and Damia and Corrin. We love to see the side characters get some action too and man, does Zara deliver. These romances had me kicking my feet and giggling throughout the book.
I did NOT see the twist at the end coming and all I can say is thank goodness Bonds of Souls and Nightmares is out and sitting on my Kindle, queued up and ready for me to start because I need to know if we can save baby Leon! I'll be back for my review on BoSaN. Til then, five stars from me on this entertaining as hell dark romantasy series.
Devastatingly back with our characters where we last saw them - Ana taken prisoner by the clerics and Leon helpless to rescue her (given that he doesn’t know where she is). We dove right back into the world, and man did this one get dark!! From visiting new lands to battling inner and outer demons, from love felt between friends and partners to hatred bubbling for new and old enemies, this book is a nonstop action packed third book in this series!!!
Ana and Leon’s journeys here are certainly not easy for them (nor easy to read at specific times), but watching them grow individually and as a pair was exactly what I was hoping we’d get in this installment!! Ana’s coming into her power as a solari, a queen, and a person finally able to be in the world. She’s finally comfortable being close to others, like Leon (duh), Tira (always), her brother Herman (new), and new trauma bond sister Lafia. Leon’s learning when to take control, how to adapt in different social circumstances, and how to be a good partner to Ana (basically he’s in SEL 101)!!
I can’t wait to see how this all ends in the fourth book now that we’ve got a new mission, some allegiances shifting, and more solari power than a solar farm!! Thanks so much to Zara Storm for the opportunity to be a part of her ARC team!!
Um, excuse me… I was not prepared for that ending. I now need a weighted blanket and 24 hours to stare into the void just to process everything that happened. Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams was one of those books where you think you know what’s coming based on the first two book, but Zara Storm takes absolute delight in yanking the rug out from under you.
Despite all the emotional gut punches, this book was so well written. Every character, whether Morgana and Leon or a side character, continued to grow within their own arcs while still feeding into the larger story. The overall plot keeps expanding, layering on tension and scale. By the end, the momentum feels almost frantic, leaving you doubting whether the villain can be stopped and if they are, what it will cost. It’s pure perfection, the kind that keeps you saying “just one more chapter” until it’s 2 a.m.
And speaking of arcs, I loved seeing Ana and Leon really hit their stride as a couple. Was it smooth sailing? Not at all. But their struggles felt authentic, and in the end, they still chose each other. Add in some perfectly timed steam, and the balance between intimacy and plot was spot on.
This book left me on the edge of my seat, wrecked in the best way, and already desperate for the next installment.
I was almost scan-reading this book. Really couldn’t care less about a story that I really didn’t get into at all. Too bad. MFC overreacts EVERYTHING. I get it: the young sickly girl who grew up locked from the world but, come on…. The girl explodes over the smallest things like it’s a huge drama and without taking the account of the other person’s feelings and intentions (MMC). Towards the end of the book there was an explanation of something that the MMC did to SAVE munchkin MFC and I just knew she was going to overreact. And, yeap…. Called it. I was ready to close the book then. I hated this book and so DNB from the very beginning.
Truth be told… a lot of the premises for these books were SO deceiving! From book 1 to book 2 “trust the enemy that left me for dead”, no idea where that came from. From book 2 to book 3 “trust the one I swore to kill” …. Well… that hasn’t happened since book 1 and I don’t even recall that even being a thing. Will not continue this series even though there is only 1 more book.
Would I recommend this series? Sorry, but no. There’s nothing that compels me to recommend this to anyone.
I absolutely adore this series and was crying from only a few chapters in knowing without a doubt that it was going to be a great emotional read.
In this book we see Ana try to group together allies, liars, thieves and monsters in order to help get her throne back from her despicable Aunt. There is lots of action, edge of your seat moments and passion throughout and I’m so happy that Leon and Ana have opened up to each other regarding their feelings. They are just so sweet together! I love this couple so much!! ❤️ I am also starting to really like Corrin, he makes me laugh so I’m hoping we’ll see more of him. He and Damia make a ferocious pair 😉 Then you have Sophos who is questioning more and more what he has always thought was right and starting to see through the brainwashing haze the Grand Bearer has over everyone. To be honest all the characters in this series are fantastic whether good or bad.
As this book comes to a close, another cliffhanger awaits and, as always, it leaves you wanting more.
I fell in love with this series and all the characters. Except Caledon, of course, but he's the villain, and he really is a villain.
Thank you, Zaro, for this amazing story. I live with every page and am thrilled to be a part of it. Once again, I praise and appreciate the perspectives of multiple characters. This time, there are even more. It's great to watch the characters develop and grow. Especially Morgana, I like her more and more, as well as the Dark Prince. The other characters are also blossoming beautifully. And there's even some nice pairing up.
But it's a shame that it went by so quickly. The book did not disappoint, it was suspenseful and full of twists and turns that kept me entertained. It was just as good as the previous installments. And of course, I'm really looking forward to the next adventure.
Note (more for me 5/5): Spice: 4 🔥 Action: 4 🥷 Magic: 5 🧚 Worldbuilding: 4 🌋 FMC: 4.5 👰 MMC: 4.5 🫅 Other characters: 4.5 🦹🧌🦸🧛💃
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Well, this was an intense sequel to say the least. From start to finish, I was completely hooked. The middle part felt a bit slower than the previous books, but I liked the quest for magic and how the world expanded. We learned more about the dryads and magic and I was there for it. Ana is a relatable and strong main character, and I love following her story. The relationship between Ana and Leon is still not perfect, but I love that they're ready to do anything for one another and work out their issues. The side characters were super interesting as well and I liked that we got more secondary points of views, it keeps things new and interesting. The ending definitely surprised me and I can't wait to read the fourth and final book in the series. All in all, an exciting and intense fantasy romance book.
I highly recommend this series if you like enemies to lovers fantasy romance with magic and surprises.

Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams is a dark, emotional, and utterly captivating ride. Picking up right where the last book left off, Zara Storm doesn’t hold back—the instant heartbreak had me gasping, and Ana Angevire’s journey through trauma is raw and compelling. This book dives deep into how pain shapes not just the surface, but the very soul, and Ana’s struggle to reclaim her buried magic is both heartbreaking and inspiring.
The story takes us to a new kingdom, full of danger, intrigue, and the quest to reignite Ana’s celestial power. Along the way, alliances are tested, secrets are revealed, and the tension between characters keeps you completely invested. Storm’s world-building and character development are phenomenal, making every twist and turn feel high-stakes and unforgettable.
If you love dark fantasy with romance, morally complex characters, and an emotional journey that lingers long after the last page, this is a must-read. Four stars because it’s gripping, emotional, and beautifully executed, with just the right amount of heartbreak and hope.
Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams by Zara Storm is the third book in the fantastic Fated to the Sun and Stars Series and a book I was longing for to read. Now that I have read it, I can say it is a great addition to that series.
It picks up after the events in the previous novel where Ana was captured and we did not know what was going on, same as Leon, who is hellbent and desperate to find her.
The book is a bit darker than book two, but that is because Ana is being held captive by evil men. I really felt for her and it reminded me a bit of the last Throne of Glass novel. The writing is fast paced and there is so much going on, that I had a really hard time putting the book down. I completely adore Leon; he loves Ana with everything he holds dear. There are many twists and turns in this book.
I loved this series from the very first book and with each book the story and worldbuilding and romance grows. I cannot wait until I can read the next book!
MY THOUGHTS: From the very first page, Ana's struggles as a queen without a throne draw you into a world where power dynamics are ever-shifting and survival is paramount. Her character is not just a warrior but a symbol of resilience, and her journey of reclaiming her magic is both inspiring and heart-wrenching.
Leon, the fae prince, adds a captivating depth to the narrative. Their relationship evolves beautifully, filled with tension and passion, and the way their bond is forged in blood and magic keeps you on the edge of your seat. The stakes are incredibly high, with war looming and alliances shifting.
MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The writing is vivid, and the world-building is rich and immersive. Each page is laced with tension, adventure, and a hint of romance that makes it impossible to put down.
Whether you're a fan of epic battles or heartfelt moments, this book has it all. I can't recommend it highly enough!
This book. All I can say is that I'm so thankful that the mystical Enchantress Zara Storm (how can I call her anything else with the stories that she weaves?) is releasing these books at hypersonic speeds. My heart simply couldn't take it any other way when she leaves me cliffhangers to simply die for. I have devoured all three of these books and am in a state of suspended anticipation waiting for book four. The character growth for Morgana and Leon both individually and as a unit is fantastic and I loved the mental health rep and trauma healing that was present in this book. And I loved the additional POVs that we got in this book, I am shipping a particular possible couple very hard ;) and excitedly awaiting the continued character arc of a particular "traitor". I received an advanced reader copy of this book in return for my honest review.
Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams by Zara Storm is a darkly glittering fantasy full of broken queens, doomed kingdoms, and dangerously attractive enemies. Ana Angevire, a fallen queen trapped in a temple that feels more like a cage, clings to her unraveling magic while everything she loves slips away. Enter Leonidas Claerwyn... the fae prince she swore to destroy (whose charm is as sharp as his sword). Together, they’re a volatile storm of hate, hunger, and reluctant alliance. As Ana says, “Even the light can burn if you stare too long,” and this book proves it. Every page glows with tension and sorrow.
Storm’s writing thrives on emotional intensity and cinematic drama; she builds worlds that shimmer on the edge of ruin. While some tropes feel familiar, the execution is lush, the pacing relentless, and the romance deliciously combustible. Leonidas’s line, “You call it darkness, but it’s the only place I ever found peace,” sums up the tone perfectly tragic, magnetic, and full of longing.
This was a great continuation to this story, I enjoy that this series does a great job of having equal parts plot and romance and that the romance is well done but never overtakes the main plot. The plot is action packed and this book has multiple POV's that add so much to this story. I liked that the 2 POV's added in this book helped round out the story and gave us more insight into the various conflicts going on in this land. I like the main couple of this series, they communicate well and solve problems rationally. I also liked the couple that was introduced in this book, it was a nice surprise that added a nice banter to this group. Overall this is a great series that has a good magic system, a strong female character and a lovely romance.
I received an eARC thanks to Netgalley and Relay Publishing. All opinions are my own.
That. Ending. Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams is book three in the Fated to the Sun and Stars series and it did not disappoint. The amount of action, traveling, turmoil, spice, and character building Zara is able to fit into these books is why I love them so much. You are constantly moving but you still know who these characters are and have formed a connection with them. If you like badass FMCs, found family, magic, and spice add this series to your TBR!
✨After that ending, I am anxiously awaiting book four. Well done and thank you so much for an eARC of Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams ❤️
Prisoners of Darkness and Dreams was a great read. This book picks up where the previous book left off with Ana captured and Leon desperately searching for her. I don't want to give anything away, but I will say that I enjoyed not only the main characters but the side characters. This author knows how to write a story that takes you inside her world and it is a story that left me excited to read the next book in this series. This story was filled with action, suspense, magic, enemies, allies, strength, friendships, romance, twist and turns and more. I think paranormal romance readers will enjoy this series because I know I'm looking forward to the next book.
Just when I think that there is no way Zara Storm can top Forged in Flame and Shadow Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams does just. We get to continue this amazing journey with Jessie Elwyn & Christopher Andrew and they once again knock it out of the park. I cleared my day just so I could immerse myself in this world. Morgana is still a top tier FMC who withstood so much to keep her loved ones safe. And good old Leon, his love for Morgana has just grown. The things he would do for is endless. I knew this was book 3 of 4 but I still wasn’t ready for the cliffhanger at the end. But don’t worry, I will be back for Bond of Souls and Nightmares.
Then when you add in the audio version… ugh, I may have gone through an entire box of tissue. Jessie Elwyn and Christopher Andrews were sensational. They brought such depth and captured the nuances of the characters and scenes. It was, *chef’s kiss*, perfect listen.
This book was the perfect mix of anxiety and intense world building. Not that I don’t adore Ana and Leon’s love story, but I am completely obsessed with the additional points of view by other characters. Apparently this story is so much bigger than Zara Storm initially led on and I am here for it! I keep wondering why these characters? What makes them and their experiences so important to the outcome of this story? I was initially upset when I saw that we would have yet another cliffhanger at the end of book 3 of this series, but I now know it will totally be worth it!
Prisoner of Darkness and Dreams is the third book in the Fated to the Sun storyline and continues with intense drama, and action that has hallmarked each explosive adventure for it’s lead protagonists Ana and Leon. Filled with the magic, enemies, intrigue, twists, action and excellent writing that has always heralded gripping world building this narrative and it’s characters continues to provide very captivating reading as the plot continues to advance and engage. Cliffhanger.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ana and Leon are exhausting in the best and worst ways. Every time I think they’ve learned to communicate, boom, another secret, another disaster. Zara Storm writes with this dreamy, aching kind of magic that makes even the slow parts feel alive. The pacing dips a little in the middle, but the emotional punches keep landing. Ana’s growth hit hard, especially when she starts facing her own darkness instead of just surviving it. Leon’s still a beautiful idiot with too many secrets, and yes, I yelled at him. The ending wrecked me, and the cliffhanger deserves jail time.
