gave very much When Harry Met Sally vibes and I both loved and semi-hated it bc what do you mean it was right person wrong time for so long!!!!!
it’s marketed as a rom-com but was not very rom-comm-y to me, so just take note beforehand that you’re in for a world of anxiety watching these two never verbalize anything ever lol
Loved the beginning of this fic but then the romcom vibe disappeared imo. It was full of heartbreak, and missed chances and mutual yearning and while i really enjoyed it, I expected something else. Plus, there were few things I don't like in my books in general - time jumps (too many in such a short story) and dating other people. While the pining was great, I wish it didn't take them sooo many years to actually get together.

4.5 ⭐️ such a great adaptation of When Harry Met Sally with some really original and poignant elements. If you liked meet your match and love and other historical accidents this is right up your alley!
I really needed this one. This fic was so lovely, fluffy, and just amazing. Not gonna lie, the first time I saw the cover I thought it wasn’t going to be for me. Maybe a bit too romcom-y. And it was super romcom-y, but in a way I didn’t expect at all.
I wasn’t ready for the time jumps or how much time this story actually covers. The way they go from enemies to bffs to lovers… the longing, the pining, the relationships, the pure frustration of these two idiots who should be together but just won’t do anything about it. It was lovely.
It kind of reminded me of Love, Rosie… but in a good way (because I hated Love, Rosie).
The slow burn, the tension, the first encounter, then the next, then the final one… perfection. It was desperation, rain, mud, then mirrors, gazing, baths, and just 🌶️
This is such a comfort read that I might actually re-read it later.
🚨 Story:
3 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione is working at the Ministry when she gets assigned to escort Draco to a secluded cottage in the middle of nowhere. She’s the only available wizard with a license, so lucky her. He’s not allowed to use magic for a full year and has to complete 20 out of 100 very “easy” muggle activities before he can return to wizard society.
After that year, Draco is… struggling. His mentors keep quitting, so Hermione takes it as a personal challenge, especially since he gets a 6 month extension and the alternative is Azkaban. No pressure. She writes down the 17 remaining activities, and he agrees to complete them if she gives him 17 “favours” in return. Fair trade, apparently.
They start working through the list. He’s been drawing in his free time. They tour a castle, she gives him a phone to keep in touch with people (including Narcissa), and he helps her with her Durmstrang application. Things get a bit awkward when she overhears him having a very 🌶️ conversation with Pansy, and he catches her listening.
They go to a bookstore, where Hermione recreates the When Harry Met Sally scene to prove a point. Draco is… impressed, but also raises the stakes telling her that when she finds a men who deserves her, he’ll make her scream. Then it’s movies, grocery shopping, board games, and a BBQ party with dancing. It starts innocent with the Macarena and ends with tension you could cut with a knife. He tells her she’s beautiful when she smiles, and honestly, it’s over for everyone at that point.
Then Hermione realizes Draco has been sneaking into town behind her back. He confesses he’s been hanging out with a group of retirees and playing games with them, which is both wholesome and suspicious. She gets mad, assumes the worst, tries to leave… and he stops her. They kiss and dry hump.
And then he just leaves the next day without saying goodbye because the list is done.
5 years later, Hermione is dating Viktor Krum when she runs into Draco, who is about to get engaged to Astoria. Seeing him completely derails her, and she basically ends things with Viktor right after. Draco invites her back to the cottage, which he now owns, and tells her she inspired him to draw again. They decide to stay friends and become pen pals while she goes to Japan for 2 years.
They support each other, share their lives, and continue being emotionally involved while pretending they’re not. Draco insists his relationship with Astoria is just for appearances, but somehow they still get married, right around the time Hermione tells him she’s dating and in love with a professor she works with.
They drift apart, reconnect in London in October 2009, and fall right back into each other’s lives. He’s divorcing Astoria, she’s single again, and the tension is very much alive. She invites him on a date, where he tells her about his mom dating life, and Lucius wanting to disown them from Azkaban.
They spend time together, grow closer, and on NYE he tells her that if she doesn’t have a date next year, she’ll be his. A Total normal thing to say to someone you’re not in love with.
Meanwhile, Ron (who has been making questionable life choices for 10 years with a married Lavander) meets Pansy, and somehow they end up being the functional couple here.
Hermione struggles with her parents not wanting to remember her, and Draco drops everything to be there for her. He gives her an illustrated book he made about his life, where she’s the one who brought color into it. They kiss, they go to third base, but he still holds back. She tells him she loves him, he doesn’t hear it, and she spirals thinking he ignored it.
She plans to tell him again, but life keeps getting in the way- his senior muggle friend passed away. Timing is never on their side.
At Ron and Pansy’s engagement party, even thought Drsco tells her his book is getting published, Hermione finally confesses properly, basically throwing the ball into his court, telling her she wants him to make her scream. And what does Draco do? Avoids her for 3 weeks.
Eventually, Narcissa gives her blessing, and Draco asks Hermione to meet him at Ron and Pansy’s wedding. But during the wedding, Hermione sees Lavander trying to sneak in and follows her out. It’s raining, it’s muddy, it’s peak romance. He hits her with the When Harry Met Sally line, and it’s game over. They finally get together in the most dramatic, desperate, rain-soaked way possible.
He takes her back to the cottage, which he’s spent the last 3 weeks turning into a home for them. They fully get together, and it’s as intense as expected. There are mirrors, bathtubs, you name it.
And when they tell their friends, the reaction is basically: FUCKING FINALLY.
Draco invece… devastante in senso buono.

Draco gets doomed by the Ministry to live without his magic for a year.
Hermione, tasked to chauffeur the proud but now magically impotent wizard to a small cottage in the middle of nowhere, never imagined she would be responsible for teaching her former nemesis how to use a toaster.
Neither of them expected that the forced collaboration would be the beginning of a decade-spanning love story.

A cute read, lightly inspired by When Harry Met Sally. Friends to lovers, big time. I wasn't expecting the story to span a literal decade so obviously I was a bit frustrated with how slow of a burn it was, but it was still good.
- "I have a memory that is not a memory." LOVED this line so much. It needs no explanation, it just makes sense in a very deep way. - cottage in Leecheville - no magic Draco for a year, Hermione just did drop off then Muggle bucket list - bookstore "I'll have what she's having" moment - they become best friends after being pen pals for a bit - happy it didn't d0 the cliche of getting her parents' memories back - Ron opens a men's fashion shop...??? okay - mega intense get together in the rain scene
It might seem a little devastating to read the summary that said that Hermione and Draco took ten years before finding each other. It was ten years of yearning, distance, friendship and dampening of their feelings by dating other people. It makes the ending all the more satisfying and heartfelt when they finally confess their love for each other. I appreciate the focus on how Hermione and Draco are each other’s best friends and support. There was so much trust between the characters that it was really touching.
IDK what it is about these 2 but I can read about them falling in love over and over and never get over it. I thought this would be a light hearted fun palate cleanser but of course I always cry over Draco and the depth of his self-loathing and guilt. I will never get over him. It was a really good story filled with years of angst and longing. I love these 2 and WillowingScribe did a wonderful job with this story.
I liked the premise. Nora Ephron movies are like crack to me so I thought this would be right up my alley. And it was… I’d say the first 80% of the book was like 4.2/5⭐️. But the last 20 % just didn’t do it for me for some reason. It felt like the magic, which had been so present and steadily increasing throughout the entire book, was lost a little bit. But nonetheless. It was still a cute, entertaining story and I’m surprised it isn’t more popular on Goodreads🥹
