Best known, of course, for his appearances in the recent AA commercials, it will no doubt come as a surprise to many that John Cleese was previously involved in comedy within a little-known troupe of comedians known as Monty Python, and also wrote and starred in a completely unknown sitcom named Fawlty Towers.
Having now reached the dizzy heights of television advertising, Cleese has become a face recognisable across the world and a much-quoted, often controversial figure within the media.
This book brings together some of the funniest and most interesting quotes from The Comic Messiah himself.
I read "So Anyway" by John Cleese a couple of years ago and I loved it, so when I saw the title of this book I bought it immediately, on impulse. Needless to say I was very disappointed when I received the book only to learn it was nothing more than a collection of quotes by John Cleese. Some of the quotes weren't even that interesting. If you're going to quote someone, the quote should be meaningful or humorous, shouldn't it? Not just some random thing the person said. And if I wanted to read quotes by John Cleese I could have just Googled 'quotes by John Cleese,' which is probably what the author did. Well, good for Simon Paige. I hope he makes a lot of money off of this book. Bad for me, though. I should have known better.
This is a very brief e-book compiled by Simon Paige regarding some of the thoughts, sayings, and philosophic quotes from John Cleese, English actor, comedian, writer and film producer. The quotes are sometimes too brief. He is a genius of comedy earning him the title, "The Comic Messiah." His quotes include the following topics: About marriage and his divorces, about himself, philosophy, politics, and religion, the last three being very correct in most instances. I wish there were more information here about John Cleese, and being British, I believe many, many more quotes would please more readers.
Not a stand alone book. To no be annoyed by it I would read it with So Anyway. There are a lot of repeated quotes. Not sure if anyone really edited the book.
