Jessica was born and raised in Kentucky, but has been moving with the waves and is currently residing in southern Maine with her husband and cat, Nebula.
As a child, Jessica all but lived at her local library, devouring whatever books she could get her hands on. When that wasn't enough, she began writing her own. After countless notebooks were filled with short stories and novels that would never see the light of day, Jessica took the plunge and began delving into the world of publishing. Jessica's favorite things include anything mermaids or pirates, tattoos, music, things that smell nice (especially bookish candles), and anything shiny!
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the first book in this duology and I definitely loved the second one as well. Caelum and Brigid are so cute but this book is darker than the first with a lot of torture at the beginning so check the trigger warnings if you may be sensible to some contents! For me it was just the perfect dose of each side : dark, tensed and hopeful! I definitely recommend this duology and a big congratulations for this amazing work Jessica S. Taylor! I will read your other books for sure!!!
I needed this! I finally have answers! I got to say this book is as good as the first one! It follows the story after the cliffhanger. The main characters are still the lovable incredible ones of The Sirens mutiny. Kallums crew is still the same group of varied characters. The addition of the others sirens as more present characters is on point. The narration is still fun and easy to follow. The story traps you from page one. Bridget is still the same string incredible women we got to meet. Their story goes on as they once again find each other. The world they live in is incredible. I love how the time period mixes with magic. The different beliefs, the legends and hidden magic. The journeys they make are incredible well written. It’s nice to get how long it took to move by boat and the work it needed. The dynamics of each character with their universe is still unique. It’s amazing how each faces the same reality with their unique personalities. The author really does a great work to get into the psique of complicated scenarios. Overall I really enjoyed this one! And most of all I loved how the author imagines what happens to a god or goddess once the people stop believing. A must read for fantasy lovers! And to siren or mermaids lovers as well!
Loved this book!!! I enjoyed the journey that both the main characters went on. Still love seeing both their views through the story. Seeing what they are actually thinking and feeling kept me so engaged throughout the story.
Love Brigid! With everything that she went through, she came out even stronger. She is a total baddie and I love her!! She has such a big heart and cares for her new and old family. I feel for her for not being accepted by Duncan. She works hard to prove herself.
Caelum had a tough upbringing with his horrible father. Even with the events from the other book, you can see it still effect him here. I love how committed he is to Brigid. She loves her, even when he might fully understand it himself. He would do anything for those he loves and cares for you. You can truly see it by this actions.
I just love both Caelum and Brigid together. They make each other better and would do anything for the other.
I hope there will be spin-offs in the future! Like for Duncan and possibly Maria. I feel like they would make a great enemies to lovers story!! I love how Maria continues to be herself throughout the books. And I also want more of Kyla and Cameron. You can see that there is something between them. I want more!!
I’ll go with you anywhere, Captain. —— And I with you, syren. ~ The Captain’s Revenge was a thrilling sequel to The Syren’s Mutiny and I want to applaud the author, first of all, for taking such care and for delving into a lot of emotional times during both the books, and especially in this one. It’s not an easy feat to write so well that a reader can feel the pain and anxiety and hurt and love and confusion and joy through the words on the page, but this book did just that. After the cliffhanger at the end of the book one, I was chomping at the bit for this conclusion, and it did not disappoint. I loved getting to learn more background on many of the characters we just saw on the surface on book one and the final plot coming to fruition and the new reveals throughout! This book and duology as a whole was so well-written and full of suspense and love and adventure and I loved every second of it!
I love the writting, the short chapters and two vision story telling.
This book was the perfect ending of Caelum and Brigid's story. Sorscha was one of my favorite character from the first book and I was very sad when she died. I was glad to see she was not forgetten in the second book. I am glad that all the syrens and sailors agreed to fulfill Sorscha's dying whish when everything was settled.
I enjoyed seeing the sailors and the syrens working together to save Brigid, eventhough their relationship was not quite smooth. I liked the dynamic between the syrens and how they decided to live and take decisions as a group. Kyla is a true leader and she definetelly deserved her kiss scene. The bonus chapter was perfect💜.
Brigid and Caelum were just perfect. Same as Alys and Falaon. And Lena too.😍

The story started right after the ending of the first book, it also shows how the syrens and the pirate crew are trying to work together to save Brigid, which is not easy. On top of that, they also encounter several new problems along the way.
I highly suggest to check out the trigger warnings cause the first few chapters has some detailed torture scenes and other dark topics throughout the story.
What I like the most is the new addition characters, like Faolan and Alys, they’re very sweet and caring. There’s also Lena, the mysterious witch that help them. (I had my suspicion about who she is and I’m surprised to know the reveal of Lena’s real identity).
However, I felt the pacing is a bit odd. It was too rushed at the end while it was too slow at the beginning. The ending felt like it was cut short, I was expecting this huge epic battle scene with the evil goddess but it was over so quickly with and I was left unsatisfied. Some things aren’t entirely resolved as well, there’s still some tensions left. For a duology I thought this book was gonna wrap up everything but it didn’t.
Overall, I actually like the first book but the second book is not what I expected it would be. I was craving for something more.
If you like to read a fantasy romance about enemies turn into an alliance with a dash of romance then you can give this one a try.

Thank you to Book of Matches Media and the author for giving me an e-ARC of the book and for having me on this book tour. I’m leaving this review voluntarily!
I have been waiting for the epic conclusion of Brigid and Caelum’s story and I was not disappointed!!
I loved how this book went a little darker and grittier. Knowing that book 1 left Brigid with Cliodhna, I was left on the edge of my seat! Brigid shows even more in this book how strong she really is and what she is capable of. And getting to see their relationship and feelings grow in this had me silently screaming into my kindle (IYKYK)!!
I enjoyed getting to experience more of Caelum and Brigid’s inner thoughts and feelings as they navigate the perils in front of them.
The blending of the Syren’s and pirate crew as they came together to stop Cliodhna made for hilarious banter and the bonds of friendship deepen. There are some new characters who join us in this part of the story, who provide insight into the past which helps our group solve the problems in the present.
Overall this is a book I didn’t want to end! I would be thrilled to see more of these characters one day but love how they received the happy ending they deserved!
What a great sequel! I loved the first book - The Syren's Mutiny, and I'm so happy to say that this sequel did not disappoint. I enjoyed being back in this world of syrens and pirates. I liked how it continued on with both Brigid & Caelum's pov. Brigid continued to bring her fierce-ness to the table, and I loved her strength and determination. Caelum is still protective and kind-hearted as ever. There were a few new characters who were thrown into the mix that I enjoyed. Faolan, Alys, and Lena - especially Lena. All three newbies had a mysterious-ness to them. I wasn't quite sure whether they could be fully trusted or not. Lena's character was just a bit more interesting. The revelation at the end didn't take me by surprise, I had guessed it early on. This series is supposedly a duology, which I wasn't aware of. Things were wrapped up, but with the way it ended I was also kind of thinking there might be more. Either way, it was a super enjoyable series!
If this book sounds like something you'd enjoy, then I'd recommend checking out book 1 - The Syren's Mutiny sometime!

I've been obsessively waiting for this book from the moment I finished book one last year.
JST did NOT let me down in any way.
Right off the bat there's plenty of action as Caelum and what's left of his crew, alongside Kyla and the remaining Syrens search for Brigid.
TCR is pretty dark, pretty early on. The types of torture that Cliodhna inflicts on Brigid is gut-wrenchingly awful and graphic (so be warned!). It nearly brought me to tears on a few occasions.
Enter Lena. This witch (literally!) is vague and secretive about her identity. For good reason. But she happily, and willingly, assists Cae and the rest of the ragtag group find and rescue Brigid, then fight the Syren Goddess.
I have exactly one issue with this book; Cliodhna's end was too swift. I wanted her to suffer the same way that she made Brigid suffer. Aside from that, I loved every single moment of The Captain's Revenge. I'm so sad this duet is complete, but I'm hopeful that we'll get a spin-off.
thank you to the author for an arc version! I DEVOURED THIS BOOK IN ONE SITTING OH MY GOD! I have been anticipating this book since I read the arc of the first book, the ending of the last book has been on my mind for so long, I’ve been itching to know what happens next and let me tell you this book delivered everything PERFECTLY! it was the best conclusion to brigid and caelum’s story, it was perfect in every way, the tension/build up, the angst, the emotional rollercoaster, the fluff and the smut was everything, everything was well paced as well, the build up was long to finding brigid but it was so necessary as the emotions it put me through was pinnacle to the experience of the story, and even if it was long it was a perfectly paced part, any faster or slower it would’ve felt out of place, i do wish we got more domestic scenes of brigid and caelum but that’s just me being emotional after the anxiety this book has put me through! the author is an amazing writer and I’m in awe of every word she writes, i cant wait to follow her on her author journey and devour every book she writes, it’s truly a masterpiece! for the characters; brigid, I adore her in every way, her character arc has been one of the best I’ve ever read throughout these two books and she truly deserves the world, the start of this book was so hard to read because my heart was breaking for her and I just wanted her to be okay, seeing she got the ending she deserves makes me so happy! caelum, an absolute gem, he served the boy obsessed trope so hard in this book and I was living for it, the devotion he has for brigid was something that melted my heart and was so intriguing to read about, their connections and relationship development was so beautifully written I’m in awe! overall, an amazing conclusion to this ships story, with the perfect set of characters that will put you through a wide range of emotions!

Caelum is searching for Brigid after is she taking by the Syren Goddess Cliodnha and this comes with a new adventure.
I have been waiting for book two for months!! This is probably my favorite mermaid series out there.
This is a more plot focused book then smut. There is actually only one spicy scene in the whole book. And the plot is fantastic. There is so much going on between Caelum and Brigid. This book never slows down or has a boring part in the whole.
We get multiple POVs from both of the main’s characters and we also get to meet some new characters who I absolutely love.
Jessica is such an amazing author. She put in a Pronunciation Guide, Map and a Trigger Warning Location Page.
I really hope to read more by Jessica even if this is the end of Brigid and Caelum. Maybe we’ll get a Kyla and Cam story?!?
“You need to learn to accept that things are changing around you.”
This is such a great sequel to The Siren’s Mutiny.
I still love the sirens. I love how they’re created, how they’ve formed this found/created family. I want more of them and this world. They’re amazing. Lena was a great addition to the characters along with Faolan and Alys. They’re such a great supportive vibe and it made my heart happy. Faolan just gave me all the warm fuzzies, he reminded me of a spicy grandpa and I’m here for it.
The Captains Revenge is a multi POV that picks up right where The Sirens Mutiny left off. There is struggle and torture and challenges and all kinds of twists and turns along the way.
I really enjoyed this journey - the Spotify playlist is perfection to read along with and put me in such a mood. If revenge seeking is your thing this is the book for you! The revenge is wrapped up in a nice scaley romantic package and served up on some swords on the deck of a ship.
I absolutely couldn’t wait too read this book and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Caelum & Brigid definitely will be a couple you will never forget. This book definitely gave me all the feels. Caelum & Brigid both want revenge and nothing will stop them from getting it. This story was amazing and absolutely loved all the characters. This was an amazing duet and will definitely miss these characters.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Following the cliffhanger of book 1, I was eager to see what happens next. This book is darker so please check the TW before jumping in.
Brigid and Caelum are adorable as ever and I really enjoyed how they came to accept the different sides of their personalities which made their love for each other stronger.
Brigid’s strength of character really shone through while she was being held and t0rtured by Cliodnha. Caelum’s need to rescue her did lead to clashes within the team but I really enjoyed how the crew and the syren’s all joined together for a common cause.
Honorary mentions to Kyla and Cam for being the cutest! 🥰
While I enjoyed a little more spice with my fantasy nowadays, I did really enjoy this book and the duology as a whole.

Thank you to Jessica and Next Step PR for the physical ARC
The Captain’s Revenge picks up right after The Syren's Mutiny. Check the trigger warnings. ⚠️ Since this is the second book, you do need to read the first one in order to know what's going on.
This was a good follow up to the first book. I was excited to see how everything played out. I felt like it was a bit slow moving in the beginning it did pick up. I love sirens and pirates so this duology was such a great read!
This was such a cool sequel! I really liked the pacing of the book, it gave enough time to explore and resolve the MCs' emotions and for the reader to get a good grasp of all the secondary characters (even the new ones!) and the extended dynamics between all of them. Caelum and Brigid were so swoony, I loved their hea! And um, does that epilogue mean that we'll have a sequel book with [redacted] and [redacted]? Like, I *need* their extended story
TWs - many scenes with graphic torture on page, violence, blood, gore, murder, imprisonment, references to past domestic violence, anxiety, panic attacks and PTSD on page
--- ty to the author and rrbooktours for an advanced copy!
The perfect second part and ending of this duology. And as usual with me, I wouldn't mind having more books in this world and with these beautiful characters. I would say this book is darker, but I just think it is dark in a different way. There is physical and mental torture on page, so I would recommend checking trigger warnings for both books of this duology. The characters' growth and development continues in this one and extends to the side characters as well, especially the rest of the syrens, who find their whole world is built on lies and manipulation. I really liked how they found amazing people on their quest to save Brigid, and they are genuinely good people and not backstabbing fiends who would do everything for their own benefit. It was refreshing. I also enjoyed very much the mythological references in the story and the names of the characters. There is a bit of spice (one scene), which for me, helps in the pace of the story, but in case you don't enjoy spice, it is short and vague enough to not be much of a bother.
Since this is a sequel, I will not spoil anything, but to put it succinctly, Jessica knows how to hit your emotions! This book triggered so many of my emotions, I have no words.
I love when a story just draws you in and you feel like you’re a part of this story and a part of these characters lives and you just want to hug them all and tell them everything will be okay. I love the found family in here that grows more in this sequel and I love, LOVE the romance! The way Caelum takes care of Brigid and is there for her after the horror she just experienced and yet doesn’t coddle her, but is THERE for her, ah just perfect! Caelum is just lovable and Brigid is such a fierce and strong gal! And Cameron as usual was my favorite!
I received a free digital copy to read. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The Captain’s Revenge picks up about two weeks after The Syren’s Mutiny ends, not much time has passed since the cliffhanger that book 1 leaves us with.
This is a beautiful ending to this duology. The plot twists keep you on edge, you just have to know what is going to happen. The dual POV helps bring the story to life, showing you both MCs feelings and thoughts.
The crew and the syrens still have their faults and are learning to work together. I love the new characters; they are a welcome addition to the team.
Brigid and Caelum truly deserve their HEA, they both have had such a hard life and even in finding each other they are still having to fight for their happiness.
“Yes, let us go rescue your fire.”
“Her fire drew me in, and I wanted to be burned. I craved it.”
(Minor spoilers for new character names) I was an arc reader for this book, and it was such a good story! I felt the urgency in trying to find Brigid, the syrens attempting to work with the crew, and Caelum's protective determination made me feel all the things. I even got choked up at one point (in an "aww" kind of way). I really liked the new side characters of the witch and Faolan. It did have some spice, but the focus is definitely the plot, which is fitting for the series. This was a satisfying ending to the duology. Check triggers if ptsd is an issue because it is evident in the story.
Before I started this book, I knew that this one would held a lot more emotions then the first one and to be honest I was not disappointed.
This book made my heart ache in many ways. The things Brigid went through broke my heart, she is such a strong character for not giving up even when things are not looking good for her.
This was a beautiful, emotional conclusion of this duology. It was nice to get to know the other syrens too and see them work together with the crew to rescue Brigid.
Last but not least I want to thank the author for providing me with an earc.
Thank you to the author and to book match media for giving me an arc of this in exchange for an honest review.
This was the second book of the duology, and it did not disappoint. We follow Caelum, who is struggling to come to terms with the loss of Bridget. Bridget isn't having the best time either with her captivity.
The characters were very developed from the start of this book to the end. The characters' development was epic. They grew so much! We got introduced to a new character, Lena, who I really liked. She was cryptic and delphic.
The tension between the crew and syrens was interesting, and watching them come to terms with being a team for a united cause was entertaining. The relationships were strained but by the end were well done and thought out.
Overall, I highly recommend this pirate and syren tale. Definitely go check out book 1, which is the Syren's Mutiny!

How do I put into words all my feelings about this book?
You all know, that I loved The Syren’s Mutiny, and that I have an issue with finishing sagas. BUT THIS WAS THE EXCEPTION TO ALL RULES. I was eager to know how the story of Caelum and Brigid ends.
And let me tell you, this books is incredible addictive and good. It was the perfect ending, perfect beginning, the perfect suffering (yeah, this book will make you suffer), the perfect rhythm and harmony.
Every character adds so god to the plot and the development and growth of each other (yeah, you hear me!). My, my, CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOT LENA? What witch 👀. I did not expect her at all, but she made a wat through my heart.
I now this is the end… but mark my words that I will revisit this books any time soon.
Jessica gave me back my love for adventures, pirates and syrens. I will not get tired of recommending this duology 🖤.
I read Syren's Mutiny right before The Captain's Revenge, and I really enjoyed both books. This dulogy has a dark Little Mermaid vibe with tropes like enemies to lovers, one bed, forced proximity, and slow burn romance. These are told in first person with dual POV. There's plenty of action and tension with a pinch of spice mixed in to keep you turning those pages. The ending of book 1 was killer, so I was ecstatic when I could jump right into The Captain's Revenge.
The Captain's Revenge is a bit darker than Syren's Mutiny. It begins a couple of weeks since Brigid's capture, and you can imagine what's happened in those weeks (check your trigger warnings). Caelum is trying but failing to locate Brigid. So it's going to take the pirates and Syrens working together to free her from Cliodhna's clutches. With Brigid only holding on by a thread, will they be able to set aside their differences to find her in time? This is just the beginning. There's still so much more to the story. I enjoyed getting to know the characters better, seeing their growth and feeling their struggles. New characters added some adventure and mystery. I will say the last battle was a bit shorter than expected, and I wished Brigid was able to exact her vengeance on Cliodhna. However, the ending was satisfying nonetheless. Speaking of ending, I'm wondering if there's going to be more stories coming in this fantasy world 🤔.
Overall, I enjoyed these books and would recommend if you enjoy suspenseful fantasy adventures with pirates and mermaids/syrens! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I'm so glad I got to read this duology because I was on the hunt for a syren read this summer and this fit the bill perfectly!
This is book 2 of a duology and was very fast paced and full of pirate/syren adventure. I loved how easy to read it was, I read this in a day.
The first book ends on a cliffhanger so you'll definitely need to pick this up to see what happens. Caellum and Brigid are such a great match and would do anything for each other- their love is spoken in the great lengths they'd go for one another. They are the kind of couple that would burn the world down to save one another.
Syrens, pirates not pirates AND witches? Sounds like a good book to me! This is the second book in the series and just like the last one I LOVED IT! I was done with it so fast and just wanted to jump into the pages. I want more of it. So much more. Without giving too much away, I just have to say I loved this. I can't tell you all the parts I loved because then it'd be a spoiler, but if you haven't read this series yet, DO IT! You won't regret it. I hope I see more from this author in the future.
I loved the first book and was excited to receive the ARC for the sequel!!! And this book delivered!!
Brigid was taken captive by the siren queen. Caelum is trying his best to save her from the queen. It turned out darker than the first book as Brigid was tortured by the queen as revenge. Brigid showed us how strong and fearless she was throughout the book and I loved it!
Caelum seemed very lost without Brigid which was pretty adorable. We got to see a different side of him with the kids he saved from his father and his crew. Old enemies showed up again which added to the story. Watching Caelum work together with the sirens was fun and entertaining.
The mysterious witch in the south was an interesting addition to the cast and her story added to the lore and history of each character. The new characters introduced to the story helped the plot move forward in an easy manner. I enjoyed the read so much!
The Captain's Revenge is a fun, action-packed and entertaining follow-up to The Syren's Mutiny. It featured delightful character development, angst and banter. This book was a strong end to a fun duology filled with morally reasonable pirates, stabby women and excellent mythological referencing.
This book picked up from book one quickly enough to keep my engagement and slowly enough for me to get my bearings back in the story. The flow and tone felt continuous and intriguing, and the writing was even better than in the previous book. Also, the characters were lovable as always, except for the detestable villains, who I enjoyed loathing.
Overall, if you like "pirates", stabby women, gods and mortals and Celtic-toned ocean-themed books, The Syren's Mutiny and The Captain's Revenge are for you.
Caelum and Brigid own my heart! The dynamics between the syrens and the crew was really interesting, though a little repetitive in the arguments. This book felt a little dragged out, but it still had nee hooked enough!
