Judges and Method provides state-of-the-art introductions to leading critical methods in biblical study, all focused on a specific biblical book, Judges, and the larger Deuteronomistic History of which it is a part. Since its publication in 1995, the first edition has established itself as a unique classroom resource that teachers can integrate into their instruction in variety of ways. The second edition has been revised throughout, and includes new essays on Gender Criticism, Cultural Criticism, and Postcolonial Criticism, as well as a glossary and indexes.
Gale A. Yee (Chinese: 余蓮秀; pinyin: Yú Liánxiù; born 1949) is a Marxist feminist scholar of the Hebrew Bible. Her primary emphases are postcolonial criticism, ideological criticism, and cultural criticism. She applies feminist frameworks to biblical texts. An American of Chinese descent, she has written frequently on biblical interpretation from an Asian American perspective.
Scholar Gale Yee approaches the book of Judges using literary critical approaches. Yee observes the metanarrative before zooming in on smaller texts. Although this work is written from a feminist perspective (Yee makes much of the women in Judges), I found the book to be beneficial. I was especially interested in the Gideon narrative and found Yee's critical reading to be helpful.
An Excellent Text book! It is a collaboration effort of many authors that are excellet scholars of Biblical knowlede. It incorporates many different forms of criticism and many different outlooks at the text! Highly Recommended for any Hebrew Bible Scholar!
