HIS RIGHT HAND MAN TURNED OUT TO BE A WOMAN
Constable Christine Johnstone joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police looking for travel, adventure and promotion. But working undercover has put her life in danger, and the best way to protect her is to hide her in plain sight--as a working constable in Dawson City, Yukon.

Corporal Michael Quinn doesn't consider himself a chauvanist, but he needs a tough young policeman to help him uphold law and order in what is still in many ways a frontier town. He can't believe they've sent him a female constable. Quinn is a renegade cop, a still young, old fashioned, disillusioned Mountie whose career is at a standstill. He's the law in Dawson, and he'll be there upholding it until he retires. He knows his town and all the people in it, and he has no illusions about love, marriage and happily ever after--or about the ability of his new constable to subdue drunken miners.

But Chris knows that brains can outdo brawn. What she doesn't know is how to deal with the sizzling attraction between her and Quinn. How can they resist passion when winter is one long, dark, cold night?

This is the second book of this author I have read, the first being "Follow A Wild Heart", and again, I expected some hilarious situations from the cover summary. As in the other book, although the story is not too bad, it seems to me as if the author could not decide whether this was to be a funny story or a serious/tragic one. That's a pity, because in my opinion sticking to one theme would have made this a really enjoyable one.
Having said that, there were funny moments between chauvinistic Quinn and his new Constable, and it seems the author has well researched life way way up north.
I still enjoyed the story, it is a nice read.

Knights of the North begin when Chris has to get moved out of town after ending her undercover operation. The problem is she never expected to be so attracted to her new partner who is very opposed to having a woman doing police work with him. Now Chris is going to prove to Quinn that she's going to stick around and that she's good at her job. But when the attraction becomes too much for both of them things start to get extremely complicated between them.

I really enjoyed this one. It was a lot different then what I thought it was going to be, but part of that is because I misread the blurb before I started reading it. But it was good! It had a very interesting plot line, with not very much action but lots of drama! The characters were also very awesome as well. I loved that Chris was a very strong heroine, and the hero is an alpha male but he's kind of practical for the most part.

Hiding From the Mob

RCMP Constable Chris Johnstone is sent to remote Dawson City, Yukon after working undercover puts her life in danger. Corporal Michael Quinn thinks he needs a young male police man to help be the law in Dawson. He’s an old fashioned cop who’s a renegade and in a dead end in his career. Learning to tolerate each other is a work in progress. Fun and quirky town with lots of interesting characters. Recommend.

Can't believe this was first published in 2014, feels like a throwback to the late '70s/early '80s. Hero was such an a**hat that I couldn't keep going. I know Alaska is remote but is it really 40 years behind in how men view women? Yeesh. This was a DNF for me and I am glad I got it via Kindle Unlimited - easy return....

Could never really connect to the characters. Don't know if it was the writing style...was hard to get into the story & found myself skimming paragraphs.

Chris's life was in danger after a long undercover operation, so she was sent to the Yukon for her own safety. She had been looking forward to the change until she got there and Corporal Quinn said he was expecting and needed a man to work there. Chris was a strong, dedicated Mountie who was not going to be told she couldn't do the job. Even when Chris and Quinn's attraction got so strong they had a hard time resisting each other, Chris would not let it interfere with work. She was determined to do her job well.

I liked how well Chris handled enforcing the law without upsetting the town. But Quinn was old-fashioned and started Chris out with lots of office work rather than send her out on calls. That didn't make me like him much. Learning about life so far north was incredible. It would take a very strong person to live there.

While I enjoyed this book, I didn't feel the attraction between Chris and Quinn. It was just something the reader was told.

Decent story

First let me say, it took me months to finish this book. Life threw obstacles in my way, I didn't have time to read and I went through a very depressed time. I made a promise to finish this book by March. This is the story of Quinn and Chris(tine) both are in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. This is a story of opposites attracting. These two characters are both very stubborn and were set in their ways. It was a very slow mover. I had gotten about half way and thought about not finishing it. I'm glad I reconsidered. The pace of the book picked up and I finally was pulled deeper into the story. The last quarter of the book had the action and excitement I had been wanting for so long. The author tied everything up nicely and I was happy that I finished it.

3.5 stars

While I found this book enjoyable I also found the characters to be frustrating and disappointing. Quinn was well written and just as I expected him to be but Chris was such a disappointment. I expected a strong female character who pretty much could meet Quinn toe to toe. Being a RCMP undercover officer I expected grit and fire, and on occasion you saw that but not often. She could have been an amazing protagonist but fell terribly short. The ending itself let a little to be desired, it was quite abrupt and anticlimactic really. Having said all that though, I did enjoy the book and do not at all regret the time spent reading it.

Loved it! strong woman! Strong Man!

Really enjoyed this book. Good characters funny and insightfull. Interesting and positive about love and work and relationships. Give and take, changing yet staying the same, being who you are. Only the end was a bit drawn out which the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. Will definitely check out other books by this author!

Great, easy read.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. My only complaint is a small glitch in storytelling and editing, Chris' eyes transform from chestnut brown to ice blue and back again several times. Otherwise, exceptional writing.

Yukon

Well written story, with a. Handsome hero and strong woman. The conflict between Quincy and Chris as they struggle with her ambition is classic. Story building, location, characters are all well done.

I liked this book

As I said I was a little disappointed with the end. I thought it would have a better ending. I wanted to know if she was staying on where she was or moving on to another post. It left you sort of hanging. Overall it kept my y interest until the last few pages.

What an adventure. I felt like I was in the Yukon with them. What a wonderful area with beautiful scenery. I was interested in the story from the beginning. Sometimes men ca be hard headed and Quinn certainly was. It was nice to see him soften in the last few parts of the book. A great read.

I started reading Knights of the North and thought what am I reading? Michael is so sexist and it was really off putting. It didn't make a lot of sense why he was so females can't do this job as he was, but that is what you get. I almost put it aside, but thankfully it did get better as I went on. Christine starts off having to do all the lame jobs around the office, cleaning and data entry and such, but she doesn't really have much of a choice. She needs to stay in this tiny town in northern Canada until things settle down. She has been working undercover and was able to arrest a few people, but one that they were trying to bring down got off. They were worried he would retaliate and come after Christine so they send her to a middle of nowhere small town where visitors would be noticed and she could hide away.

So Christine is stuck in this tiny town and working with Michael who obviously doesn't want her there. He is attracted to her and they live in close quarters, but he still tries to resist. Really that is almost more motivation to get her sent somewhere else. She is attracted to him as well and it is not long before they become more to each other. Christine also proves that she is just as good of a cop as Michael is so they start sharing the actual job duties. They live and work in the same building so it is hard to get away from each other. Of course everything isn't just roses as the both have different career objectives which would make it difficult to have a long term relationship, but in the end it all works out.

Add to this a bit of suspense from the bad guys who are after Christine. That part didn't make as much sense to me. It was just like if they can catch the one guy and put him in jail she will be safe. I don't know that much about these things, but in TV shows and other books it is possible for bad guys to get people on the outside. But the suspenseful bit and who actually came after her was fun. Really after the beginning where Michael was super sexist it did get better. It was fun reading it, but it wasn't an amazing read either. I did enjoy it overall even if it was a bit ridiculous at times.

SINCE SEASONS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGING HERE WHERE I LIVE I'VE DECIDED TO READ THIS BOOK ABOUT LIFE IN THE YUKON. THE COVER SHOWN HERE US NOT THE SAME COVER AS THE BOOK I CHOSE TO READ, THE ONE I HAVE HAS A WAY BETTER COVER (mine's kinda sexy). THE SETTING IS THE YUKON WHERE DAYLIGHT LAST FOR WEEKS AND NIGHTTIME SEEMINGLY LASTS FOREVER. WELL WRITTEN, I LOVED THE LOVE SCENES AND A GREAT VISUALIZATION OF A VERY BEAUTIFUL PLACE. I LOVED THE STORY LINE AND THE CHARACTERS ESPECIALLY THE TWO MAIN ONES QUIN & CHRIS, BOTH ARE MOUNTIES. CHRIS IS SENT TO WORK WITH QUIN IN THE SMALL REMOTE TOWN OF DAWSON, PROBLEM, CHRIS IS A FEMALE. LIVING AND WORKING TOGETHER IN THE SAME QUARTERS, WHERE THE NIGHTS ARE LONG. Hmm? OH BOY! THE PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN DAWSON ARE VERY UNIQUE & INTERESTING BUNCH OF SMALL TOWN CHARACTERS. THIS IS A WONDERFUL BOOK TO CURL UP WITH IN YOUR FAVORITE SPOT, IN A COZY WARM ROOM AND JUST DISAPPEAR INTO THE FROZEN TUNDRA. I LEARNED ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS, ONE THING I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND OUT, RIDING IN A DOG SLED IS NOT AS GLAMOROUS OR FUN LIKE IN THE MOVIES. MUSH-U-HUSKIES! UN-NOT-SO-MUCH-ANYMORE! ;D

The author has created a brilliant police/crime story set in the wilderness of the Yukon.

We find RCMP Constable Christine Johnstone who, after a stint in deep undercover, is having to spend some time out from the mainstream to help RCMP Corporal Quinn in the small town of Dawson.

After the initial macho "women shouldn't be in the force" bravado, Quinn realises that there's more to Chris than meets the eye....

Will her past catch up with her and threaten to destroy her new life in Dawson???

Fantastic characters and progressions. The descriptions of the settings are brilliant and really give you a sense of being there.

You will love this book and not want it to end!!

MEME, ARE THERE ANY LOLMANCE NOVELS THAT INVOLVE A MOUNTIE?

I HAVE PERSONALLY READ TWO. THEY ARE OLD HARLEQUIN SUPERROMANCE FROM THE 1980'S-90'S. ONE IS CALLED "NORTHERN KNIGHTS" (WHICH LOOKS LIKE IT'S BEEN REISSUED AS A KINDLE EBOOK CALLED "KNIGHTS OF THE NORTH" FOR $2.99) AND ONE IS CALLED "EVERY MOVE YOU MAKE." THE FIRST IS ACTUALLY LOLARIOUSLY ENTERTAINING. IT'S BASICALLY ABOUT A MOUNTIE WHO IS KIND OF THE STEREOTYPICAL 1980'S MALE CHAUVINIST AND A LADY MOUNTIE WHO GETS SENT TO WORK WITH HIM IN THE YUKON. AT FIRST HE IS VERY >:( TO HER AND THEN HE COMES TO REALIZE THAT SHE IS AWESOME AND THEY FALL IN LOVE.
