When falling in love with the enemy distorts everything you thought you knew.
I never thought that at 24 I’d have to put my NBA dreams on hold and return to the hometown I’d left and never looked back on. But I also never thought I’d be burying my family at 24, either.

With the help of my half-brother, I have just one to bring down the cult for good. They’ve taken so much from me, and now it’s time for them to pay. Even if it means working with the enemy to expose the evil lurking at the heart of the cult that took my family from me.
As we unravel the twisted truths that don’t just expose the cult, but the darkness lurking within Barrenridge, too, I’m faced with an impossible seek justice for my sister? Or save the girl I’m falling for from a similar fate?
The Sunburnt Hearts series follows a group of high school graduates from Barrenridge—a small, one-way in, one-way out town three hours west of Sydney—six years after finishing school. Some have returned to the small town, some are only just escaping for bigger and better things. One thing is for sure, despite being a typical farming community with an old goldmine, the town harbours more than just dust and secrets. Beneath its quiet surface simmers long-forgotten feuds, forbidden love and the kind of heartbreak that never truly heals.
The series follows the lives of a sports physio who gets a job with an NRL team, a Supercars driver, an NBA basketballer, an artist, the police chief’s daughter, and a DV survivor running from her past.
The titles in this series Prove Me Wrong, Unwritten Rules, Twisted Truths, Beautiful Ruins, No Strings, and Off Limits. Each book can be read as a stand alone, but you will find cameos from characters within each of the stories.
This book was EVERYTHING and has easily become one of my favourite reads this year!
Twisted Truths was the first book I’d read by JL Skye, I now own almost all her books in paperback and can’t wait to read every single one!
The writing in this was so deep and compelling, I found myself not being able to put it down. It was full of so many twists and turns my heart broke multiple times while trying to figure out what was going to happen next. All the Trauma, mystery, suspense, heartbreak and then the love between Nash and Hadley was utter perfection! The cult plot, my goodness I need more books like this asap because the way this was written was everything I needed and more!
If you love a romantic suspense with an intense slow burn that’s so worth the wait then this is the book for you. There’s also a lot of little hidden Easter eggs through out and my goodness I felt like such a fake OTH fan when JL pointed most of them out to me because it’s one off my all time favourite shows!!
I had the absolute honour of beta reading this and Thankyou so much to @jlskye_author for trusting me with Nash and Hadleys story I can’t wait to see what’s next 💋

Thank you so much to JL for giving me the opportunity to arc read Twisted Truths. This was my first book by the author and also my first time diving into the world of romantic suspense and mystery so I was very intrigued.
Twisted Truths had me hooked right from the start with so many twist and turns, with the mystery elements mixed throughout I couldn’t put it down. The writing style instantly drew me into the story and helped me feel so connected to the characters like I was right in the story with them. I felt so much emotion reading Nash and Hadley’s story, I cried during so much of the first half of the book. It has you constantly thinking you know what’s happened and what’s coming next but then it just throws you through a loop, thinking you have the mystery cracked only to leave you questioning everything and everyone as a suspect.
This book had me completely immersed from start to finish. The suspense and twist and turns with all the emotion and trauma that both MC’s go through, will have you turning to the next page to find out more and to try figure out who murdered Nash’s family. Just when you think you have it figured out, nope you’re onto to the next suspect. I loved the way Nash is with Hadley and watching their relationship grow throughout the story. He is so caring and doesn’t want to see her hurt and he doesn’t give up till she knows what it’s like to be cared for and loved, this one definitely pulls the heart strings and I highly recommend.
Twisted Truths will be available on the 15th of August. I’m very excited to finish the rest of this series!
Firstly thank you to JLSkye for allowing me the pleasure and privilege to beta read your amazing book 😍. When you offered me to beta read your book, I was very excited to read it, and damn I loved every second of it.
This book had me hooked from chapter one. This book is written beautifully and has an amazing plot with spice with the main characters. The story definitely has a twist in it and literally had me guessing what will happen and who murder Nash's family and proving his sister's innocence.
Nash returns to Barrenridge from the US after finding out his family had been murder and to find out who did it while grieving. I was on such an emotional roller-coaster throughout this entire book. I went through feeling sad, crying, laughing, and definitely angry the more I read this amazing story.
I absolutely love Nash and Hadley and how their relationship develops throughout the book. This is a slow burn suspenseful romance in a small Australian town.

Please make sure to check content warnings before you start. Hope you're all ready for some twists that come with this book and definitely one book you won't regret reading.
Another fantastic read from one of my go-to authors. Nash and Hadley’s story is unlike anything I’ve picked up before. Nash, a brooding and confident NBA player, returns to his small hometown of Barrenridge, Australia, after tragedy strikes. His family has been killed, and the prime suspect is his own sister. Nash is convinced she’s been framed by none other than the local cult she recently escaped, The Sunfire Circle.
Enter Hadley, a fellow cult member desperate for her own way out and a close friend of Nash’s sister. What follows is a story tangled in trauma, forbidden connections, and, true to the title, twisted truths.
Twisted Truths is part of the Sunburnt Hearts series, a six-book collaboration where each instalment is written by a different author and follows the lives of Barrenridge’s high school graduates six years after leaving school. I’ve only read this one so far, but I can already say it’s dark, suspenseful, and completely addictive. Definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in.
Everything JL Skye writes, I inhale, and this one is no exception. Add it to your TBR. You won’t regret it. Happy reading 📚
Hmm this one was a bit eh. I didn’t mind the whole cult thing of it, I felt that actually added an interesting twist and I did enjoy the whole murder mystery aspect of it all. I do feel like the MCs were kind of lacking thou, you don’t really feel a lot of chemistry between the two and the shift from suspicious to want is so quick it kind of left me with whiplash. I understand desire and wanting someone even if you don’t trust them but the mc just flips quicker than a click of your fingers. Even after that thou their chemistry doesn’t really improve. They are good together sure but idk I just felt they were missing that wow factor as a couple. In terms of spice, it’s about a 1.5/5, it’s not that common in this one, there is maybe one or two scenes and they are over fairly quickly. They were definitely more of an emotional couple than a psychical one. Overall, it wasn’t my favourite of the series, definitely an enjoyable read but I don’t think it’s one I’d go back to so it’s a 3/5 for me.
This booked grabbed me from the prologue and I could not put it down! I loved absolutely every minute of this journey. I was instantly drawn to Nash's pain and heartbreak and was so invested in his search for answers. I thoroughly enjoyed the push and pull of Nash and Hadley towards each other. Their relationship development is written so well under the circumstances and Nash despite all his pain is an absolute sweetheart. Hadley not without demons of her own is a perfect compliment to Nash and Nash to her! And the side characters, I loved Gabriel from the start and never once doubted him. And Rowan, that man, I cant wait to read more on him. Did i pick the twist? One of them yes, and one I was half right. But the full twist, the complete reveal of the truth, still hit me hard! This is well written, pulled at my emotions and has characters you cant help but fall in love with.
This book was amazing!!! I was up so late most nights because I just couldn’t and didn’t want to put it down. And having to be social, nah, “leave me alone, I’m reading J.L.’s new book”!!! A small-town dark romance with cult themes, yes, please. Written so well, the plot, the mystery, the suspense, the trauma, the characters, and the storyline so perfectly timed. The crossover between books in this series is PERFECT!! I thought I knew who did it, but I was so very wrong. She tied the ending up so beautifully.

Twisted Truths by JL Skye is a mystery/ romance that has cult elements in it. This book grips you from the start had has you going through an emotional roller coaster with its twists and turns! Every time I thought I had figured out the story, JL Skye threw me for a loop and I was left stunned at the ending questioning everything! We follow Nash a 24 year old rising NBA star who suddenly finds himself back in his home town for the worst reasons possible. To bury his family after they were brutally murdered. Nash finds himself having to prove his deceased sister’s innocence after the police their deaths a murder/suicide. In trying to prove his sister’s innocence we meet Hadley a girl trapped in the very cult his sister had fled from just hours before her death!
Dark romantic suspense written absolutely perfectly! This is one story I could not put down. The emotion in this story is incredible, the trauma, the healing, the love, the MYSTERY, oh my goodness the mystery! I had a strong map going on in my head trying to piece it all together, and guess what, I was still wrong! The way JL Skye tied it all together in the end was perfect. Zero question left at the end of the story. Nothing was written without meaning. This is my favourite JL Skye book to day. PHENOMENAL
🔥 small Aussie town 🔥 mystery 🔥 trauma bonding 🔥 slow burn 🔥strangers to lovers 🔥cults
This book took me on a journey, a small Aussie town dark romance with cult themes! I will say I had my suspicions of who did it from the start but I was shocked reading the ending because I was sooo wrong! The way this was written was 10/10, the strangers to lovers to unexpected friendships and the mystery behind everything really tied this book together
Thankyou for letting me be an arc reader for this xx
HOLY SHIT! Where to even start, I think this is my favourite JL Skye book yet. This book had me in actual tears at times, and the suspense was thick! It was so well written, the plot, the trauma, the mystery, the characters, and their storylines, I ate up every single word. Every time i thought i had it figured out, i did not 🤣
I loved the character crossovers from some of the other books in the series, too.
Loved this book so much. It was amazing. Fantastic plot and characters that drew you in. I knew 30 % in it was going to be epic. I could not put it down I was totally sucked along for the ride. I needed answers. I did guess who the bad guy was but that’s ok cause it was far into the book and I probably wasn’t alone in that respect. So many twists to it that had you wondering what next. I bawled like a baby in this book. I was heartbroken. J L Skye puts you through it emotionally in this one.
This story was incredible, small town dark romance with cult themes. Who did it, murder mystery and everyone is a suspect. Enemies to lovers! This book will leave you on the edge of your seat while you go into a deep spiderweb trying to guess how it ends. The plot twists are “got you” moments, just WOW! I highly recommend Twisted Truths!
I shattered into a million pieces. The heartache, the trauma and the devastating loss tore me to pieces. I sobbed 90% of the way through this book. Twisted Truths is PHENOMENAL! In true JL Skye style she tore my heart out and put it back. The entire book had me hooked from the very beginning. Thank you so much for the opportunity to ARC read it.
I was given the opportunity to read this book as an ARC. And OMG this book does not disappoint. With the suspense and mystery of who murdered Nash’s family and the slow burn romance with Hadley. I couldn’t put this book down, even when it was finished. And as an added bonus absolutely loved the references to One Tree Hill.
" For the angels with a sweet smile who love a man with a devil on his shoulder...... you can fix him (no, really you can)"
i couldnt put this one down as i was instantly hooked ! That suspense with the slow burn ... it was soo good. I couldnt get enough of the characters. I adore Nash and Hadleys story
Twisted Truths is a 3.5 ⭐️ read for me It did take me a little bit longer to get into, I did find myself enjoying it and then getting bored again then enjoying it again through out the book. Though by the end I couldn’t put it down and had to know what was going to happen next and didn’t expect those twist to be thrown at us! Such an awesome ending to the book
Nash returns to his home town Barrenridge from the US after his family was murdered, putting his NBA career on hold. He returns to grieve and to clear his sister's name, who was accused of the murder-suicide. He enlists the help of his half-brother to help him take down the SunFire Circle cult, who has taken so much from him. As he unravels the twisted truths, he exposes not only the cult but the darkness within Barrenridge.
In true JL Skye fashion, this book tears your heart apart and sews it back together. I demolished this book so quickly, it was a definite "carrying my kindle around reading while doing things" kind of page-turning read! This book has soooo much emotion, trauma and healing!! I absolutely ugly cried in a few points! JL Skye is such a great story-teller, and really pours her heart into her words. The plot twists come out of nowhere, and they hit hard!
This book is a part of The Sunburnt Hearts series, where 6 authors have come together to create a series based around Barrenridge, a small town in Australia, that harbours secrets, long-forgotten feuds, forbidden love and heartbreaks.
I will be recommending this to everyone!! Thanks JL Skye for the privilege of such an amazing ARC 😊😊
Okay guys, I have read my first book that has a cult in it. And you know what? I liked it. There was some dark and emotional parts throughout this book but I was along for the ride. I loved our Hadley and her sweet innocence, and how instantly her and Nash connected (despite the clash in their backgrounds). I love how protective he was over her even though he was going through so much of his own grief. The spice was fantastic too. I seriously cannot wait to read the rest in this series, they have all been so amazing so far. Make sure you go check them out ❤️

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌶️🌶️🌶️ I saved this book for last because while I did not relate to being in a cult, I wanted to give it a try and boy was I not disappointed. This book was EXHILARATING - the romance, the mystery, and the plot twists. I cried THREE different times reading this book because of the tragedy, the heartfelt parts, and omg I will never shut up about this book (and the rest of the series).
Nash Stone had left his hometown of Barrenridge, Australia six years ago to go to college in the US and get drafted into the NBA. Just as he's about to sign his first contract for the big leagues, he finds out that his family is murdered, and the town thinks his sister did it before committing suicide herself. Nash knows that his sister wouldn't and couldn't do that, so he goes back to Barrenridge to prove her innocence, and prove that the local cult, Sunfire Circle, was to blame. Hadley Jacobs joined Sunfire Circle after she found that her sister had passed away in the Circle. Both Nash and Hadley set out to implicate the cult but secrets and unknown threats endangers their budding relationship from reaching their potential.
Nash and Hadley have like an instant attraction that they both fight for different reasons, but when they fall, they fall together and hard. Their relationship is cute (why can't I find someone who will call me a cute name like little possum) and their epilogue was so cute as well. While majority of the book is a murder mystery, it had different vibes from Beautiful Ruins and kind of felt lighter despite the death and the cult.
This book had so many twists & turns and the suspense throughout the book had me on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to work it all out - while connecting the dots ( You really need a mind map going).
J.L Skye has a way with writing her characters in such a way that you feel so connected to them - its like you know them personally. I felt so many emotions while reading this - yes i cried but i am a sook.
This may top my fav J.L skye book so far. Absolutely loved it.
