There’s a difference between a manga that just does the same thing and stays interesting versus one that does the same thing and keeps feeling fresh. This is one of the latter ones, even if the basic structure remains quite similar.

Still, some of the little touches are pretty amazing. After being used for the wild revelation of the first volume, I have come to absolutely love the relationship between Miko and her father. There’s a little moment with pudding here that is just utterly charming.

And even if the usual format, where Miko is doing something and a grotesque spectre is involved, rarely changes, it’s just so inventive with designs and scenarios that it never feels repetitive.

Highlights this time include a store selling blind boxes with a helpful pet and a very creepy encounter with a ghost who has a particular form of attachment. The latter has a predictable end point, but also has one of those little tweaks at the end that makes it more than just a retread.

Mixed into this is the ongoing story with the creepy Seto, who claims to be on the side of humanity and deals with spirits in the most extreme methods we’ve yet seen. He has a very tense encounter with Miko and is skulking around the whole volume afterwards.

What I liked is that he’s operating in more of a gray area than we normally see. Both Rom and Mitsue acknowledge that they need his help with the spirit that nearly killed Rom last time, but they’re very unhappy about it.

At the end of the volume we end up having this simmering issue come back to the fore, as the main cast encounters the same spirit and poor Michiru accidentally ends up getting an eyeful thanks to her own unique physiology.

It’s not the highest heights of the series, but dang is this still good. It is one of my favourite horror manga and really hit a stride after its first volume that it has yet to stumble over.

4 stars - just really strong, solid stuff. It’s very clever about using a specific template in creative ways and I appreciate it so much for that.

Finally this one was added on ComicsPlus and I could continue the story! We meet the old man and his "friends" which terrified me but I also love how he treats them as friends, though I guess it is good for him he cannot see them as they terrified me. We also meet new ghosts including several creepy ones (was happy with Miko's choice) but also some not so bad ones, I am curious about that shiny collectors item and what it is doing to Hana. Plus, there is something big with Rom and something happening with our cute Cthulhu girl. I cannot wait for the next volume.

The continuation of an intriguing arc with the disturbing Seto and his intentions towards Miko and her friends. I really enjoy the series for its characters, monster depiction and the mystery of those monsters and their position in regular life. Having said that, progress on said plot is limited with most of the chapters being side stories, fun to read, but feeling a bit like filler. Still, it remains a fun series to read and the volume fitted expectations.
