It's homecoming week at Ashley Waters, but Sang Sorenson has a lot more on her mind than dresses and crowns. Silas's troubled past—full of secrets he and his team thought they'd buried—comes back to haunt him, threatening to ruin everything.
Silas tries to deal, but guilt weighs heavily on him and Sang realizes she might be the only one who can help him keep it together.
Bomb threats have increased. They are followed at every turn. The principal is resorting to drastic measures to make sure they're all going to be kicked out. Pushed to their limits, Kota, Victor, Silas, Nathan, Gabriel, Luke and North, along with other members of the Academy, have finally had enough. This time, more Academy members are brought in to help hunt down the culprit, and keep everyone safe. It'll cost the boys, but in the end, even a bittersweet victory is better than disaster.
This time, they're getting what they need. All it takes is learning the line of when to let go, and when to never give up
You are probably wondering, if this series is bad, and i hate it, why do i keeping on reading it?
It's simple
curiosity is a bitch. And between us i'm reading this for the eye rolling and the lols This is ridicules, come on.
This is the SEVENTH BOOK, THE SEVENTH!!! and what is happening NOTHING that's what.
Honestly i'm baffled by the high ratings!
Lets see: Sang sneezed> lets write a chapter Sang needed new panties> another chapter Sang kissed a boy> another chapter But Sang liked that boy too and the other one and that one too and she held hand with that one and she slept next to that other boy> ANOTHER CHAPTER
Maybe, MAYBE, if this series was written better i might have liked them. I mean the fundamental plot is there but there is so much going on and it's like the author has the attention span of a child! anything and everything is interesting for about a chapter then she moved on. There isn't any focus on anything. And everything seems silly and unbelievable.
7 books!! wow How is that even possible to have 7 BOOKS and you solved NOTHING Because of what i wrote above If the characters showered, dried themselves, dressed and ordered pizza BOOOM BAAAAM half of the book is gone!!! why? Maybe the editor didn't know what he/she is doing. Maybe there isn't even an ediot. I'm just guessing here and honestly i couldn't even bother to go and find out.
Ugh and don't even get me started on the characters! WHAT IS GOING ON! Honestly? worst characters ever. And Sang? wow i can't even find words for her!!! What is this! get a backbone girl!!! She can't even tell when she's hungry! the "boys have to tell her! she have zero opinions. O.o God! this is horrible and just disturbing! All of them are a bunch of 16 years old kids! KIDS! The oldest is 19 and he acts likes he's 50!
highly unbelievable and horrible events and characters I'm all for mystery and "spy" books but this is just plain stupid.
Will i ever recommend this to anyone? HELL NOOOO Will i read the next million books of this series maybe because i'm a masochist and likes to torture myself, and besides i wanna know this horrible disaster's ending. If it ever will.
Random thought Alot of people HATES on twilight but when you think of it, it's really good regardless if the language isn't for your highness's liking, but nevertheless it was good. 4 books and tons of things happened and alot of things were solved and alot of issues were presented. I actually like twilight, and those so called "books" are not really any better. Which makes me wonder about this high rating and maybe it's about what other tells YOU to like and not like...
hmmm i'm NOT comparing those books together. They are completely different i was just trying to make a point about what is mainstream in books world.
Guess which hot football player is nominated for homecoming king? That’s right, Silas! Will Sang be nominated for Queen? Ooo, how cute would their dance be?
Living situation – Woohoo, Sang is outta her house and into Nathan’s.
Shopping - Another fun shopping scene with Sang and the guys looking for formal wear. Gabriel helping her get dressed is one of the best scenes. Sang and Mr. Blackbourne meet up with flirty Dr. Green for everyday clothes shopping and Mr. B picks out a date dress first!
Volto - I’ve got some respect for this cheeky little bugger, he’s one step ahead of the game. He seems to know an awful lot about what’s going on with The Academy and of Mr. Hendricks’s plans for Ashley Waters High School.
Danger - Who keeps making these bomb threats during homecoming week? Oh yeah, local abandoned churches are being set on fire too.
Silas’s family - What’s up with Silas’s brother and their past?
Humor - Luke and Victor team up for a prank on Silas. - Gabriel licking her, “If I lick it, it’s mine.” - Sang trying to steal Silas’s body heat while in bed.
Hotness - Victor’s abs - Nathan stealing kisses with her and cuddling on the sofa. - A hot bathroom scene with North. - In the kitchen with Silas. - The closet with Gabriel.
This is a must read. If you’ve made it this far, you know you just gotta keep going. You’re hooked, addicted, in love, whatever you wanna call it, you need to have this book.
Silas – “Sweetie, you better believe if I have to run, it’s going to be me chasing after you.”
I was this series #1 fan, until this book. Sang's "timidity" is way overkill at this point. Gotcha, she was extremely sheltered. Gotcha, she is shy and unsure. However, if we are to continue to believe that 9 guys are falling over themselves in love with her, we HAVE to see more substance from her character. I mean, seriously? She doesn't even know when she is cold or hot, when she is hungry or not. The guys tell her to put on more clothes (clothes they picked out, bought, and packed for her no less) or to eat and drink. This is getting ridiculous and a chore to read at this point.
Give us something! ANYTHING!! A blurb, a teaser! Have mercy and dish something out already, Please!! *on my knees*
AFTER FINISHING...
*sigh* these books are so ridiculous it's hilarious but so addicting it's embarrassing.
I remember when I finished reading Push and Shove and I read the excerpt for House of Korba. I feel the need to say that "shrieking and squealing" were low key compared to what I did. After that day "stalking" was also a nice term to what I did to this book. It became at least a weekly obsession that only got worse with the nearing release date. So to say I was excited was to put it mildly.
Sooo... you can imagine my disappointment when I read this and all it basically englobed was Academy business. It feels safe to say that we don't read this because of the Academy plot. Pish posh, we read this for the sole-well, not literally "sole", more like 9- reason of the guys. I know everyone reads this for that exact same reason, no other. Don't deny it, the truth will set you free.
So yeah, like I was saying, this book was scattered all over the place. It had one too many plots; Volto, the fires, Theo, the bombs, Mr. Henricks(I feel like I'm forgetting one). <<<<<<Every scene was interrupted by something and I feel that took away from the magic that these books have- because come on, these things have to be voodooed to have me coming for more every single damn time.
This is actually the first time in a review I critiqued them. It's not that the others didn't have flaws. God knows they did but I never felt the need to elaborate because they fulfilled that need in me of never having to choose between guys.
None of us who are reading this series really cares about the scary drama. It would be a lot better if there was just one bad guy instead of 4 or 5. We want all of them to fall in love. We want the relationships to progress.
Unfortunately, this did not happen in this book. There was a lot of external drama that took away from the growing relationships. I appreciated the look into Silas's life but I feel like the drama with his brother could have been put in a later book, after the whole Volto thing got resolved.
In a weird way, this series reminds me of LOST where there is a lot going on and more drama is introduced without much being solved. We got rid of Jade. That's about it so far.
All of that being said, I still enjoyed this book. Silas is amazing. His interactions with Sang are careful, like he is extremely aware of how big he is and how small she is in comparison. He doesn't want to break her and it is so incredibly cute. North is jealous and protective in this book which suits him. I love that he is playing the protector role because I guess he was the first to really fall for her. But goodness,
I love that Silas is such a hardcore flirt. I'm loving the sweet talk and the selfies. I'm enjoying how the relationships are growing, though I wish there was more interaction with Kota, Mr. B and Luke. I keep thinking Luke or Gabriel will have the heart stopping kiss.
I want there to be more inter-relationship drama. I want the boys to fight over Sang, like physically fight. I want Kota to play a bigger role in her life. I want Gabriel to have the opportunity to be her savior and man up a little. I'm tired of the velvet gloves.
I read this slow and it still went by so very fast. :( In all honestly, I wasn't expecting half the things mentioned in this book until the next one. So I'm very happy with how fast it progressed.
♥ Blackbourne is such a softy and he's not making it easy not to fall in love with him. ♥ Some of our favorite friends/foes are back! ♥ Silas: hot blooded Greek perfection ♥ Pranks ♥ Gabriel licking people? ♥ Dr. Sean *swoon*
My boy love order has been updated :) 1. Dr. Sean (always) 2. Mr. Blackbourne 3. Victor / Gabriel 4. Silas / Luke 5. North 6. Kota 7. Nathan
Do I really have to wait for till April until the next one? I don't know how I'll survive!!!
Not as good as the other books in this series...I was a little disappointed and am I the only one getting a little frustrated with the Volto saga? I sort of want it to be resolved so they can be off doing some other adventure. I also felt like the intensity that North had in previous books was gone, and I felt like we just glazed over the characters instead of getting inside them like the other novels. Maybe the book could've been a bit longer, allowing more character love? In saying this though I just can't wait for the next one.
Yikes. Not going to lie, forced reading! This book was torture! Sang's sheltered life before was sweet but now? It's annoying. I seriously couldn't take any of the characters for anything other than a joke.
Nothing happened in this book. They go shopping, sang thinks about her feelings. Guys, can't ever stop commenting on how adorable she is and how they all love her.
What i've learnt reading the Ghost Bird series : - I'm a bit of a masochist; - Fiction is an amazing thing where there is leftover bacon; - I have no shield against cuteness; - I'm rooting for unconventional relationships; - I might have a soft spot for super pretty heroines; - Having 9 boyfriends seems really difficult to handle; - I'm so thankful that authors exist.
sigh....honestly I was a bit disappointed with this one. I think it was that the plot wasn't as exciting as in the other books. I also am getting annoyed with Sang. I understand she is timid but it should be getting better by this point. At least have her take a bit of initiative with the boys! It was still a good book but not great.
"You go Greek, you won't go back to any of those American lazy boyfriends"
I'd definitely like to see that ;).
Okay...I feel a bit like a traitor after rating HOK. All of the other books in the series have made it to my favorites shelf with a five star rating and I feel like this one should be there too.
But I just can't put it there!
It was a great book (as usual). A lot of action and drama. New kisses. New characters. Humour. Mystery. More Academy insight ;). HOT GUYS being extra hot (of course).
This book's Academy report was AWESOME.
Also Gabriel♥♥♥
And Kota♥♥♥
And Mr. Blackbourne♥♥♥
And still...I don't know.
One thing I know is that IT WAS TOO DAMN SHORT!! That was a huge bummer since I started reading it. Only 254 pages on my reader :(.
BUT I still love the boys♥ and The Academy remains as my favorite series. I have high hopes for The Other Side of Envy :D. I really, really, really hope C.L. changes her mind about the releasing date, though. April is too far away.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I just finished devouring yet another amazing book of C.L Stone! Ladies who love Silas!! There's a lot of Silas parts in this story! There was lots of drama, adorable romance, fights, threats, and fun which go together quite nicely if I do say so myself! I recommend this book to anyone! I can't wait for the next book!
SPOILER: Sang and _ ..... <3 Enough said ha ha!.I hope everyone loves this book as much as I did! Sorry this review is kind of short! I sprang all night reading this so I may or may not pass out from the awesomeness of C.L! Read this awesomesauce! -Devianna Smith
Have you ever read a series that you have a love/hate relationship with? For me, that series is The Academy by C.L Stone. It is one of those series where I can't read them all back to back as I will get all frustrated but they are also a series I find that I can't put down though sometimes I want too. House of Korba is Book #7 and gives us readers a further look into the Korba family which for those who are unaware is Silas's family. We learn how he came to be in the Academy and what favors were pulled to get his family away from Greece. Like many families, the Korba's have a few skeletons in their closets, and if they aren't careful, it looks like one major one will be exposed to the world. Sang is still bouncing between the boys and though looks like Silas is not afraid to go for what he wants. Like all of the CL Stone The Academy books, I do like the boys but Sang freaking annoys me sometimes. It's like you want to shake her and be like grow a pair of balls or a backbone. Tell the boys you want to date them all and love them all and stuff society and conventions. It's always like Sang has to be led to make decisions and then when she wants to get all up in the boy's business - it's like she is assertive but not with what she wants. The other thing that annoyed me with this one was North. It's like who freaking cares if the others have made their moves if you love her then do it already. Come on everyone where is your assertiveness as HELLO; you have been trained at the Academy. You have done dangerous missions, so stop pussy-footing around Sang. BE ASSERTIVE. While we are it with the nicknames, seriously Dr. Green - Pookie? We are not living in the olden days haha. I am curious to see who Volto ends up being though and what is next move is. One thing though I thought while reading this book was that I want Sang's steampunk costume :). If you want a good Reverse Harem series to read, then check out The Academy by C.L Stone as they do suck you in and once you start you will want more.
Sang and Silas get to know each other better in this book - yay! Silas is the strong, silent guy in the group, and like the others, he has a troubled past. When some of the local churches go up in flames, Silas's brother, Theo, is a prime suspect. Trying to keep an eye on Theo, protecting Sang AND all the stuff going on at Ashley Waters (bomb threats, etc.) stretches the group thin. They have to ask the Academy for help with homecoming. If Sang wasn't on the Academy radar before, she is now.
I'm still liking this series. I am getting a little anxious wondering exactly what Principal Hendricks is doing - we haven't gotten much progress on that front in few books and instead have been introduced to new threats. I just want a little progress in each book; is that too much to ask? I'm still loving all the characters and like getting to know each guy a little better in each book.
24/11/2016: If Sang ends up as Homecoming Queen via write-in or something, I am going to snap my shit.
25/11/2016: Luckily, Sang was not homecoming queen, but apparently she had so many votes that she could have been if the Academy didn't change them. *facepalm*
The good news? House of Korba was a big step up from Push and Shove. The bad news? Despite how much plot happened in this book, we still know nothing about the Academy.
Many fans may be disappointed that this book is plot heavy and not romance-filled enough with Sang and her harem. I, on the other hand, am thrilled because even the little we got with Sang and the guys was enough to make me want to punch her teeth in.
Sang is still a spineless, useless tit who is loved by nine teenagers (who act like thirty year olds) for some reason. So many times she thinks about what she has to do to keep the guys happy, so she lets all of them kiss or rub up on her. At first she thinks she can only love one guy, but Blackbourne gives her the go ahead to grind up on all of them, so now she just gets super nervous and fluttery before she shares her first kiss with one of the guys. God, it must be so nerve wracking, having nine hot guys swoon over you and want to kiss you. Now North, Silas, Dr. (lol) Green, and Nathan have kissed her on the mouth. She's about halfway there, guys! But other than that, she's still the idiotic, self-sacrificing twat that somehow is smarter than all the Academy boys put together and knows what's best. Gag me.
The guys:
-Silas, despite this being his book, is still boring and forgettable. If his name wasn't in the title and his family situation wasn't one of the plots, I'd forget that this was his book. -Gabriel is still pinging my gaydar. Stone needs to accept that she wrote a bisexual character, probably unintentionally. -North is still a dick. Aggressive alpha males are not sexy. He deliberately spied on Silas and Sang and shocked Sang because he got jealous. And his first kiss with Sang was in the bathroom. Bleeeeeh. -Luke, Kota, Dr. (lol) Green, and Victor are barely around. They're at some group stuff where everyone seems to blend together and you don't notice. -Nathan gets one scene where he's basically like "I was mad last book but I'm okay now, sorry" and that apparently excuses his entitled, douchey behaviour sparked by valid points. - Blackbourne is now my favourite, when I ignore his love for Sang. He's calm, cool, collected. He lets Sang know she can tell him anything in confidence and so far, he doesn't spread it around like the other guys do. He even calls the guys out when he asks Sang a question and everyone else answers for her. It's like he's trying to get her to grow a backbone. I really wish he was put in a different series of his own and had his age match the way he's written (late twenties to early thirties).
Oh, and by the by, I had to look up Victor and Nathan's names while making this list. If that doesn't tell you that there are too many damn main characters in this series, well...
Mr. McCoy is back. He's working with Mr. Hendricks to get the Academy guys kicked out. No headway is made on the Hendricks front, we don't know how the money is being embezzled or who the third party is. Volto makes an appearance, mostly to warn Sang and alert her to McCoy's return.
The situation with Silas' brother, Theo, was sad. Everyone in the Academy team dismisses him as a lost cause except Sang (because she's always right). But we can't feel bad for him, so he was made to be a serial arsonist and is going to be hauled off, even though no one tried to help him (and the guys saying "We asked him to hang out and he said no a few times" isn't trying).
Despite the rampant amount of plot, nothing is really moved forward. The Theo situation is introduced and resolved by the end. We know McCoy is back. That's about it.
Other random things:
-Apparently the guys can discuss things in private with Blackbourne that they don't want each other to know, but they'll share everything Sang says and does without her consent. Hypocrites. -Too many of the guys abuse the cameras set up in their houses, mostly to watch Sang. It's fucking creepy. -Sang can't completely think of Karen as a friend and puts the guys on high alert around her, even though Karen has been nothing but friendly to Sang and saved her from Jade. Yet she'll cling to Jay, Jade's (you know, the chick who almost raped her last book) brother, until one of her boyfriends comes to find her, because he has a penis. Gynophobia or misogyny, I'll let you be the judge. -Too much time was spent on Sang's stupid homecoming dress when it was practically non-existent during the actual dance. -Sang needs to be introduced to the Academy soon, apparently. My guess is that other teams (all female, of course) will be interested in her, but she'll think they're all bitches and pine for her harem instead. Bleh.
The pile up on the car wreck continues. It's sad that this series is addictive, but so terrible.
The 7th book in the Ghost Bird series deals with the mystery surrounding the school, bomb, threats, Volto, Silas's brother and Silas building a closer connection with Sang, oh and lets not forget lots of kissing! I'm glad Silas finally is teaching Sang how to kiss, it was getting rather awkward with her fumbling lips, who the heck puckers up when they give a romantic kiss? hahah Poor Sang, she is so confused with her feelings towards the guys, she is attracted to all of them and hates to disappoint any of them. Finally, with a little push from Mr. Blackbourne she confesses a bit of her feelings of trepidation.
She is feeling a lot more comfortable around the guys, being able to joke with them and her trust in them is coming along but she still is so unsure of herself, she still is afraid to voice her thoughts and feelings especially when it comes to things she likes or wants and especially when she has to deal with her emotions involving the guys. She is also very leery and distrustful of other people and she has yet to forge any real relationships with other girls her age, the closest she came to this is with Karen but she still has a problem with getting to know her better, looking her in the eyes or having a normal conversation with her. To be honest with you she really needs to seek therapy and I'm surprised the guys never ventured down that path. It makes sense coming out of a terrible situation like Sang has come.
Although, I enjoyed this book I feel this story line pertaining to the school needed to come to an end in this book, it's getting a bit monotonous. Still, I can't wait till the next book, it looks like it's going to be an interesting one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Wow, this is a slow burn story for sure but lots of things, good things are starting to happen. I loved having the story of Silas. I love how he, Nathan and North all are very intense but so differently. I liked almost everything in this book except for one thing. Sang. Sang needs to step it up now. She's too naive and weak still when it comes to the boys. She needs to show that she's learning, speak her mind. Claim her own place. In this book she felt like a mindless doll and it frustrated me. It also made some scenes awkward and uncomfortable and I just wanted to shake her. So much. I hope she will be stronger and more independant in the future. Take some initiative on her own. Otherwise I might agree with Kota that she shouldn't join the team. Because she would be a liability. I can't wait for April now and I thank all that is goid that I have a Scarab beetle book coming in December!
I love Sang, she is the best heroine ever. I hate the bad stuff that she goes through. Also, I love how the boys protect her. I think it is intense yet beautiful. They make the story funny and serious when it needs to be.
My favourite boy is North. Silas is my second favourite. Then, Mr. Blackbourne rounds out my top three. Each boy brings a special and unique quality to the book. I loved that I got to see more Silas. He was sweet, protective, and sexy as hell. These are the many reasons why I love him, but no one can top North for me. He is something great.
This was a fantastic sequel. It is something totally different than what you usually expect from an author. The series just keeps getting interesting, especially when she has 9 boys that she wants and they are all vying for her heart. I think it makes the story fresh and new. I can't wait to read The Other Side of Envy next! Overall, an amazing read.
**Somewhat spoiler in my review but nothing to give anything away**
Sang has finally moved out of her house and into Nathan's house but she stays with the other boys off and on due to remodeling of Nathan's house at this time a lot.
Sang and her harem go on a few shopping trips for new wardrobes and getting ready for homecoming.
We get a couple of more guys with a stolen kiss or two....4 down, 5 to go ;)
Volto is on the loose again but is he the bad guy or helping out Sang? Danger is always around the corner and bomb threats throughout the story. Don't forget about a new character you will meet whom likes to set old abandoned churches on fire.
House of Korba-all I can say is Silas is hot and teaches Sang how to really kiss? Yummy....can't wait for book #8 in April 2015!
I liked getting to know more of Silas' history with his family, and I liked the moments she had with North but I want the thing with Volto and the principal to be over and it's getting a little long to be resolved. It was also shorter than some of the books in the series so we didn't get to have Sang with a lot of the guys. I want her to initiate something and be bolder with them instead of hiding from her feelings. I loved the pictures and the sweet talk from Silas and I wouldn't mind reading more of it. It's not my favorite of the series but it was still good and I need the next one to be released soon.
-> I had my copy on my Kindle a day or two before the release date so I was really happy about that :).
