Be Careful What You Wish For…

It’s Ari’s twentieth year in the floating city of Maldia. Her last year alive—

As one of the Eternal’s sacred star maidens, the time has come for the Great Fall, where she will descend to Earth and grant the wish of her Chosen. But when she finally plummets to Earth, she discovers her Chosen’s original wish cannot be granted… And now, she’s stuck in the mortal realm with a ticking clock.

Elias never wanted to be soul-bonded with Ari. A non-believer, he wants to rid himself of the bond that ties him to the beautiful woman demanding a wish. So, he imagines a new wish—win not only the championship fight at the Aura Festival, but win back his former lover in the process. Yet as time passes, a fire between Elias and Ari grows, and he’s no longer certain of what he truly wants…

But there is another watching in the shadows—

An immortal stranger has his sights set on Ari. Seductive and brimming with supernatural power, he promises Ari a genuine life if only she desires to fight for it—as his queen.

One decision. One second in time. One wish.

Nothing will ever be the same.

Katherine Quinn is a fantasy romance author and poet. She graduated from the University of Central Florida with a degree in psychology. She resides in Houston, Texas with her husband and children.

Her love for writing began after she read her first fantasy series, Song of the Lioness, by Tamora Pierce. After that, she wanted nothing more than to be a dagger-wielding heroine. Unfortunately, it’s frowned upon to give a child a dagger, so she settled on writing about daring adventures instead.

Coffee is her true love, and she believes anything can be fixed with Starbucks and dark humor.

Another beautiful world from Quinn. If you loved the Mistlands duology, you'll be familiar with the style of writing and characters. I personally fell in love with Ari, much Kiara. The strong but soft FMC is my favorite and Quinn writes them so well.

In Starfall, we have two male characters that are intriguing. One a young fighter that's truly been fighting his whole life and the other a mysterious man that speaks in riddles. Ari must learn how to exist in a world she'd only dreamed about and possibly come to terms with a bigger role than she expected for her life.

I was gifted an early copy. All comments are my own.

Thank you to Katherine Quinn for the opportunity to read this book early as an eARC!

I’m giving this one a 3.5, rounded up to a 4. I think this book has a very specific audience - the romantasy readers - and it should appeal to them very well.

Quinn has a very beautiful way of making the reader connect with her characters. She’s very good at developing them and making us understand and visualize them and their decisions. I think she did a particularly good job with this book!

Where I wasn’t as thrilled was in the plot itself… It was very low stakes and not super exciting. And the idea of this mysterious dark man contacting her through her dreams / mirrors / etc while she has a real life man to love… it felt so reminiscent of Addie LaRue. 😅 I couldn’t get the comparison out of my head. This plot may not have been done exactly like this before but it’s similar to most romantasies and doesn’t bring anything new to the table.

I don’t think I will be continuing this series… I was just not all that thrilled with it. But I do like Quinn’s writing and will be reading her future YA books.

Also, as a side note, the spicy scenes were very well written and lovely! 😊

ARC Review: Starfall: A Dying Light Novel by Katherine Quinn

Rating: ★★★★★

I absolutely loved Starfall! The unique concept of a fallen star maiden enraptured me from the very first page. Ari’s journey, caught between duty, desire, and a ticking clock, is both heartbreaking and exhilarating.

One of the ideas that resonated most with me is that life doesn’t hand out wishes—it gives you chances, and it’s up to you to make your own wish come true. That theme, woven through Ari and Elias’s story, made the romance and the stakes feel even more real.

The tension, the romance, and the danger all balance perfectly, and the introduction of the mysterious immortal stranger added an extra layer of suspense that kept me turning pages. If you love fantasy with high stakes, soul bonds, and impossible choices, this book is an absolute must-read.

After reading Quinn’s mistlands duology and thoroughly enjoying it, I wanted to give this new one a chance. It sounded like a pretty unique read. Unfortunately, this book was just a miss for me.. the plot was lackluster and underdeveloped (maybe that will improve in book 2?) and the romance wasn’t believable. If anything, the romance felt forced and was borderline cringey. That could just be because Elias infuriated me the whole book. He was irrationally jealous just about the whole book or at least once he admitted he was lusting after Ari and he’s prone to volatility because he can’t keep his emotions in check. Not my favorite MMC in a book and definitely not as great as Jude from her Mistlands duology. I hope to see more of the mysterious and endearing Xavier in the next book. The FMC never chooses the first guy, right??

Oh I loved this story. It was a quick read, once started I couldn't put it down. The whole concept of a fallen star and a mishap with a granted wish had me intrigued. Add a grumpy MMC who is a boxer with a tragic past, romance, tension, banter, learning to trust each other....and meddling gods, and you have a fantastic romantasy. Can't wait to see where this story takes us in book 2.
I received an arc of this book and all opinions are my own.

Starfall fell somewhere between a 3 and 4 for me. It got really slow in some parts and felt a little repetitive. Also kind of felt like we didn’t really get anywhere, but loved the characters and their development as well as the writing style. I will definitely still be reading book two because I just love Katherine Quinn.

"A Celestial Love Story That Will Leave You Breathless"
Katherine Quinn’s Starfall is a mesmerizing romantic fantasy that blends the magic of celestial mythology with the grit and heat of human longing. Ari’s journey from dutiful star maiden to a woman faced with impossible choices is a triumph of character development. Elias’s reluctant bond, the electrifying tension between them, and the magnetic presence of the immortal stranger create a love triangle that is anything but predictable.
The world of Maldia is lush and cinematic — from its glowing skies to the adrenaline of the Aura Festival. The emotional beats land perfectly, the romance is deliciously slow-burn, and the stakes feel real and urgent. This is not just a story about love; it’s about choice, freedom, and the courage to rewrite your fate.
Quinn’s pacing is sharp, her prose lyrical, and her ability to keep you hooked from page one to the final chapter is masterful. By the last page, you’ll be desperate for the sequel.

I knew after reading that first sentence
that this was going to be one of those
books that would consume me to the
very end. I'm not ok, but that's a very
good thing, that's how amazing it was.
One of the things I really enjoyed
were the layers and attention to detail.
Then there was the whole world building,
and the character development. You'll
end up loving Ari and Elias, and certain
characters along the way. You're given
just enough to keep you going, but also to
keep you guessing. I'm very emotionally invested in this story, loved it. Can't wait
for bk.2!!🖤
