Shadow Host #3

Heretic's Path: A Science Fiction Adventure

Rate this book
There’s hell to pay, and her currency is blood.

A conspiracy is about to erupt, and her family’s grimy fingerprints are all over it. This time, they’re not playing small. Their latest weapon—fifty thousand units of cyberware designed to hijack a person’s mind and rewrite their loyalty—could destabilize the entire system and kill millions.

Anyone could turn on her. Even the person she loves the most.

He’s already compromised. No one knows when it’ll activate—or if it already has.

With enemies hiding in plain sight and betrayal waiting around every corner, Soo-jin and the crews of Huli Jing and Hammerclaw will need to play fast, hit hard, and pull out every dirty trick in their arsenal to blow this plot straight into one of the binary suns.

This reckoning with her family has been a long time coming, and she’s going to make sure it’s the last one they’ll ever have.

And if she’s really lucky? She might even survive.

Heretic's Path is the third book in an exciting new series from bestseller K. Gorman. It contains one snarky, foul-mouthed captain, her butt-kicking crew, plenty of sci-fi action, and some questionable heroics. Perfect for fans of The Expanse, Killjoys, and Cowboy Bebop.

I had the privilege to receive an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this novel.

Soo-jin Dokgo has a talent for getting into trouble. But then, given her very troublesome family, this comes as no surprise.

As the events of the Shadow Host series come to a head, Soo-Jin faces her ultimate nightmare: Confronting her father and his cult. Not only is she forced to face her past, but she must confront one of the main causes of her CPTSD.

This is great sci-fi, featuring a very human story anyone can relate to. Soo-Jin speaks her mind and doesn't stand on ceremony, and that both gets her in trouble and tends to lead her to do good far beyond her life.

My only complaint is that K. Gorman leaves several things wide open, which will hopefully lead to more stories with the crews of the Huli Jing and Hammerclaw. But otherwise, this is a satisfying conclusion to the series. For now.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC, and I am happy to review this awesome read.
Like the 2 previous books in the series, there's lots of swearing and graphic violence so if you're easily offended this may not be the book for you! I loved it!! It did take a while to read, but there was so much action and interaction between the characters it never dragged, on the contrary it was hard to put down. It did follow Soo-Jin's journey back to confront her nightmarish family, and save the world! and while it did wrap up the storyline quite satisfactorily, with a few twists along the way, there were a few unanswered questions. The author does say she plans on writing more in this universe, which makes me very happy, I really look forward to reading more about this diverse and entertaining found family.

The series continues and Soo-jin and the rest are back for more drama and fun times happen here. The drama, intrigue, and suspense of when things could get worse made the story a blast to read. Plus the added problems of family made it so much fun to read. I loved watching it all play out and guessing what might happen next.

What an absolutely fantastic, sweary, and satisfying end to the Shadow Host trilogy.

Our favourite characters are back at it again with all the swearing, sass and banter we're used to from the first two books but even more action-packed goodness in this book. I feel like these characters are family after the wild and wonderful journey we have embarked on together. This book is an emotional roller coaster so be prepared for some feels - good, bad and ugly.

As always, the writing and story are epic, Gorman really draws you into a complex but easy to follow world with amazing, well-rounded and flawed characters who are both relatable and total badasses.

This series was my first by Gorman but I am so excited to be able to go and read her previous works and I'm looking forward to her future plans!

If you like space operas with: found family, anti-hero/baddie FMC's, LGBTQ+ representation - this is a series for you.

I was absolutely thrilled to receive an advanced reader copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.
