When a reporter goes missing after visiting a writers' conference, it immediately raises the question of whether there's more going on than meets the eye. Was she really there to help out her writer friend, or did she have an ulterior motive? The third instalment in the series moved away from the storytelling taking place across two time periods. We only have the current timeline, which felt different compared to the previous books, but that didn't make it any less captivating. Learning what happened and watching Eden grow more and more into the role of detective was one of the highlights for me. She is very smart, and her insights are invaluable in uncovering what really happened. While I wasn't 100% on board with the final conclusion, I enjoyed it nonetheless, and the narrator does a really good job of bringing the story to life beyond the pages. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story continues and can't wait to get to the remaining books in the series. Luckily, I still have plenty to look forward to.

This is my first book from Paige Black. I thoroughly enjoyed this police procedural. Eden. Her dog, Shadow. Her mentor, Detective Hanks. Wonderful characters. Interesting plot. Well written. Well told. I will be looking for more from this author.
I was gifted an Audible version of this book from the author through BookSprout. The narrator, Hannah Somerville has the perfect voice for Eden as well as Detective Hanks. She brings lots of personality to this book. 5 stars for her as well.
I enjoy this series and Eden Mercer and her crew. I do love a good animal sidekick too, which makes me feel like this book is slightly more cozy mystery than gritty, dark mystery.
Not a fan of the mentor and how he calls her "kid". Some might think that is endearing, but honestly, it's rude and condescending. Stop it.
Good story and a decent ending. I would read more from this series. The Narration was good and worked for the characters.
