Francesca I was promised freedom. One spy on Dante Forzi, the mafia boss who terrifies even his enemies. All I had to do was get close. Close enough to gather intel. Close enough to lose myself. I came to destroy him. Now I tuck in his children at night and dream of his hands on my skin. But the deeper I fall, the more I no one escapes the mafia. Not alive.
Dante I don’t believe in softness. Not in this life. But she makes my children laugh. She fills the house with a warmth I didn’t know I missed. And when she looks at me, I forget what I am. She lied to me, so I made her mine. Now I have everything to lose. And I’ll kill to keep it.

I loved this book. It had everything I wanted in a mafia romance - the secrets, the betrayal, the OTT MMC and most importantly the GROVEL.
Francesca has been living an absolute nightmare in her own home thanks to her shit father who is abusive and has no love or care for her. She is given an opportunity (or a su*cide mission) to get close to Dante as his nanny (undercover) to obtain info and report back so she could gain her freedom.
Not everything is as it seems with Dante, he is known to the world as a cold calculated monster and what Francesca ends up seeing is a different man. A father who loves his children and the kindness he shows them. His first marriage was a sham so he holds no candle for his late wife.
Betrayal plays a big part in this book as Francesca suffers the consequences of her actions towards Dante in ways that are ''torturous''. While he never physically hurts her, he does cause her immense amount of emotional pain - hence the groveling.
He forces her to marry him as a punishment. That scene where she wants certain conditions put into the marriage contract was so good. I loved the tension it brought and how much it made him look like an asshole and everyone knew it.
Dante spends a lot of this book trying to make up for his mistakes and realizing his actions had a massive effect on Francesca. He works hard to remind her what they could have had if he had not messed up and jumped the gun.
I just loved their dynamic, her bravery and how she made him work for any ounce of trust from her. Loved the scenes with her and his kids.
I kind of saw the twist at the end coming but I was not entirely focused on that as for me their relationship development and tension was what I was mainly focusing on.
We get a nice glimpse into their future and their little family.
And what a read it was, as I do love a good Mafia/Nanny book. Add in the fact that the Nanny is actually sent in as a spy! Well that's just a delicious combination 🤤
Here we have FMC Francesca, who agrees to become Dante's Nanny in order to spy on him and report back to her horrible, shitty Dad. She does this to earn her freedom from the Mafia world. But she doesn't count on falling in love with the MMC children and then being discovered as a traitor As you can imagine, everything soon blows up and the major drama begins. Yay! 😉
I won't go into too many details as I don't want to ruin it for anyone. But I loved it so much.
So you can expect:
💍 A Forced Marriage. 🔥 Enemies to Lovers. 🍼 A Nanny with Secrets 🖤 Morally grey MMC 👨👧👦 Single dad with a soft spot 🎭 Undercover heroine 🗡️ Betrayal. Heat. Redemption. 🔥 A slow-burn 🙏🏻 Grovel ⛔ No cheating or OW drama
Yes, it's a slow-burn. So don't expect any smutty goodness for a while, and the spice isn't too in your face and not that frequent. But to be honest, you'll be so invested in the storyline that you won't even realise that it's not such a dirty read. You'll just be desperate to see what happens next.
Now I've loved R.G Angel for a while now (check out her Brutal Prince, the Cosa Nostra series if you haven't and Ruthless Warrior. Both are amazing!) So I may be a little biased, but I absolutely adore her writing. The way she sets each scene, along with a great storyline and not forgetting her amazing characters. I just enjoy reading her books so much and she's one of my favourite authors.
So I highly recommend Of lies and Shadows. Now I think it's time for a re-read of her others 😉❤️
I was excited to read this as it promised betrayal and grovel. It did deliver, but the gut punch wasn’t as brutal because:
Francesca was a self-righteous moron to walk into that situation and then play the victim because after all, she was there as a freaking spy! Just because she was “going” to come clean, she was there to collect intel and what Dante did to her, while degrading, wasn’t nearly as bad as what she originally feared he would do. He spit on her and put a gun to her head. Mmmmkay.
I didn’t really feel the love between the MC’s. Especially not leading up to the big betrayal. I did like how mean Dante was after the deception was revealed but it didn’t last long. Francesca was really good at disassociating!
Neither one of their actions made a ton of sense, especially Francesca’s. The marriage contract—like what!? And that was never rectified at the HEA end? I did like how Dante mocked her for her martyrdom at one point. It was exhausting!

Everything was fine until the MMC straight up r@ped the FMC (even tho the FMC says it wasn’t because she didn’t say ‘no’ when consent is much more than a no or yes) I don’t know how this has so many positive reviews and I’m very disappointed because I love this author and did not expect her to write a guy like this. Some things are simply unforgivable.
° Yes, it's yet another mafia romance! ° But it's an RGA and I am a big fan. ° And this one was hotly recommended for its betrayal and grovel on FB. ° And so I was excited to dive in, hoping for a replay of the excellent Her Ruthless Warrior.
TW: Dubious consent
Things started so well and I was gushing when RGA promised to deliver an 'Intense emotional journey'. Was it a win? My truth is yes and no.
Yes, because RGA obviously knows the ropes of betrayal and grovel really well because she not only delivered a slap in the face betrayal, squarely entrenched in cruelty and humiliation, but also a super guilt trip for the H to drown into as the 'shut down' h kept reminded him time and again of his transgressions.
Yet, also No, because:
(a) I didn't feel an intense chemistry between the H and the h prior to the betrayal. I needed spine tingling / sigh worthy strong chemistry between them to explain why the H felt so betrayed (and hence acted so callously) and why the h was so wounded by his punitive actions. As it is the impact of the betrayal/ humiliation felt muted.
(b) the feelings and behaviours of the characters somehow felt skin deep and artificial. Like not real persons I could root for, cry along with or rage against. The writing tried hard to make them feel alive but it didn't work all the time for me. Possibly a me thing? Again, this made the drama and anguish feel muted.
So my bottom line is that the bones of the story were very good and from a distance, the betrayal/ grovel seem on point. It's just the execution that lacked some smooth transitions and gripping nuances in the characters' voices. And I do think it might have worked better if I was in the right mood to be carried away with the drama. Which is why I am giving this story the benefit of the doubt with a higher rating.

“Of lies and Shadows” is the story of Francesca and Dante.
Really wanted to have a good cry and this book was exactly what I was looking for.
The heroine has grown up in an abusive household and always wanted to escape. Her mafia father gives her a condition- if she spies on his enemy, she can leave their household.
Hence she becomes a nanny in disguise for the hero. She immediately feels a kinship to his adorable twins, and soon wins everyone’s heart. The hero too starts liking her.. until he discovers her true identity.
Sequence of events lead to a broken heroine, who is soon forced into a “marriage” to the hero. The heroine escapes into her mind and becomes a shell of herself, while devoting herself to the children. The only support she has is her old guard , much to the hero’s chagrin.
Slowly the hero starts discovering her motivations, and this begins a slow journey of grovel and forgiveness where we see hero fighting for her heart. I loved that the heroine made him understand her pain; and that he was genuinely remorseful.
ssshhhhhh...my favorite comfort trope is on! Betrayal and Grovel
"“He sees me as a traitor, and I see him as a monster.
first a huge thanks to the author for providing me with the eARC for my honest opinion

I think from the blurb you could understand how the story goes she is forced to spy on him he finds out does something terrible tries to redeem himself
to tell I look rigorously for these books because I need them between heavy books. And I devoured this story in one sitting. it's not a long book, 270+ pages but it gives you the fix your need if you love the groveling trope.
I absolutely loved Fransesca. I think, as a female lead, she was so strong and I don't mean the kick-you-in-the-face-and-sass-with-badmouthing, but she is strong in her kindness, resilient and defending both herself and her loved ones
she played Dante's game and showed him that her strength comes from her inside
the twins were so adorable
Dante was a sorta green flag 💚 and I kinda understood why he did what he did
I loved that there wasn't this immediate sexual attraction between them..you know...the one that happenes on first sight
overall, I enjoyed the story. it was short and sweet
my issue? well...it was short and sweet!!!!
it began so fast that I did not get the chemistry between Fran and Dante one day, she gained the trust of the kids the next, she gained the trust of the father the next, a kiss bam betrayal bam marriage bam grovel
I think this is one of the rare occasions where I truly belive this should have been 200 pgs more! or even a duet
if we got more interaction between her and Dante more scenes to see how she gained the kinds I hoped to see her do more in her life other than just a mother and wife..(not that i see any problem with that..but for someone who was craving freedom, it was a bit bummer to see her settling)
Just....more
Nevertheless, I think you'd enjoy this book for specific read
Another unputdownable must-read by RG Angel! Of Lies and Shadows is everything I crave in a dark, emotional mafia romance and then some. From the very first page, I was hooked—drawn into a story that’s both heartbreaking and all-consuming in the best possible way.
Dante, the feared mafia Dom with a reputation for being cold and ruthless, isn’t looking for love. He just needs a nanny for his five-year-old twins. But what he gets is Francesca—a woman desperate to escape the cruel mafia life she was born into. Taking a job spying on a rival should be simple… after all, aren’t all mafia men the same?
But nothing is simple when emotions get involved.
Francesca doesn’t count on falling head over heels for Dante’s children—or slowly witnessing the cracks in Dante’s icy armor as laughter and warmth return to his home. Their chemistry is undeniable, and watching Dante’s hidden softness come to life is truly magical. The pizza-making scene? Absolutely heart-melting perfection. And those twins? Adorable beyond words.
Francesca is a heroine to root for—a quiet warrior, strong yet soft, carrying pain and secrets that broke my heart. She’s exactly what Dante never knew he needed. But what happens when the truth comes out? When love is tangled in lies and betrayal lurks in the shadows?
Prepare yourself: this story will wreck you—in the most beautiful way. It’s full of gasp-worthy twists, raw emotion, and a betrayal I never saw coming. Once again, RG Angel proves her mastery in crafting unforgettable, deeply moving mafia romances.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An absolute must for every romance reader’s shelf.
the blurb tells u the basic plot! Francesca gets freedom in exchange for a little spy duty. she becomes nanny to Dante's twin children. eveeything is fine. rhw wins loves her instantly. they bond over kings, queens, n pirates!! read it to know more.. but its so sweet.. even Dante is happy. they r all bonding
but what happens when he comes to know the truth? the story starts tehre actually.. he is angry, she is heartbroken ..yes he marries her as a revenge.. but the conditions she lays down.. oh my heart!! she brings him tp his knees for the way he treated her!!!! it was so good.. so angsty .. so emotional!!!! the author is so good at writing grovel. its so believable. he grovels through his actions.. that's y even she felt it. n they got their HEA. so well desrved.
Bruno was the best secondary character. i loved him. also Vito.. though i could have enjoyed more of his scenes..
overall... a terrific beautiful book.. has all the tropes we find n kove in a R G Angel's book!!
That was a masterclass in mafia angst. So much angst, pain and heartache, but it so captured the trauma of the life of a woman in the mafia. My heart bled for Cece!
Dante may have been a fierce mafia monster, and acted rashly at points, he always seemed to come to terms - albeit it too late at times - with his mistakes. But he’s human and what more can we expect? These mafia men may be fictional, but they are human.
We may have only had small doses of their romance, but it was perfect for their story and burned so hot.
Thank you R.G Angel and Midnight for an advanced copy.
This was such a page turner for me and I litterly read this in one day I just couldn’t put it down. I love RG Angels work but this just drew me in so much.
It was a diffrent type of mafia story with a nanny trope. You get a story about acceptance, trust, mistrust, loyalty, love and a high level of spice as well as betrayal and redemption with a HEA in the end.
Francesca and Dante’s story was just dark and utterly amazing.
Francesca was promised freedom from the mafia world and the cruel world of her father she just had to do one thing spy on another mafia lord and getting close enough to gather intel. She came to destroy him but she didint expect to fall in love with his children or Dante himself so what happenes when he discovered she has betrayed him?
"It's her. All of her. Her fire, her stillness, her silence, even her sorrow. I want it. I want her."~Dante
"I'm scared. I know that if I love you, I won't just love you. I'll be addicted to you. And what if that's not enough? What if one day you stop wanting me?"~Francesca
Holy smokes!! That was an emotional and fiery read. We have 2 people living in a hostile world where dangerous men call the shots and retaliation was a constant shadow that followed the women, even children, of said world. It's the mob, everything was drenched in having oaths and blood.😣 Unwavering loyalty and complete dominance was the name of the game. And for young Francesca Mori, 23, she was a woman who dealt with the damaging effects of being the daughter of a bad and cruel man. Her own father. That girl saw what it had done to her own mother, and she wanted to escape the same punishing fate. But how can she run when all eyes were on her? Till an offer from another cruel Don, along with her Dad, made a deal, get close to a known enemy, to be a spy, in exchange for her freedom. What would you do to escape? That's what this story asks.
🚩🚩 Be sure to read the TWs. There are some scenes, events here that might be triggering and or uncomfortable for some readers. It's the mafia, just be aware.🚩🚩
When I started this book, my first read from this author, I didn't know what to expect. I know this was book 3 but I didn't feel lost as I was reading it. It did start slow. It was an easy pace. The writing style didn't fall back, or lose traction in its narrative, it pulled me into the emotional upheaval that was Francesca and her very existence. Everything was on the line for her. I sympathized with her. I understood her motivation. Get intel on a well known capo, an enemy of her family, Dante Forzi, and then go live her life her way. Dante was a 32yr old widower of twins who needed a nanny. A great cover. The twins Lucia and Alessio were adorable.🥰 Super cute. I loved how quickly Francesca cared and loved these kids. She wasn't closed off emotionally despite her upbringing. If anything, she became a protective Mama bear. She didn't spend time dwelling on feelings or an attraction to her boss. She was on a mission. I loved how strong and smart she was.🏋🏻♀️ Francesca was not to underestimated and nearly every man did. Except the judge and Bruno. Gahh. I loved Bruno!!😍 Will he get his own story written?🤞🏻
Like I wrote, it was slow, but once the pressure began of looking for information for her awful Dad, then the story started to lift off.🛫🌩️⛈️⛈️🌧️ I would have liked more spy suspense but this was a shorter book. Loyalties will be tested. And then, some heavy intense air turbulence struck. More so when closed off Dante began to notice things about her and dug more into his nanny named 'Alice Winters'. He was attracted to her. But danggg, then the 💩💩💩💩 hit the fan.🫢😳🤯💥💥💥💥 In such a cruel and monstrous way. Dante retaliated. BIG TIME!! Noooo!! Did he just do that? Say that?😬 To her? And Francesca, she handled it, took it all, went to The Lake in her mind, even added things to the contract thanks to Dante. What contract you're asking. The marriage one. It got fugly y'all. FUG-GLYY!!!!🙊🙈👿 Revenge and punishment.
Dante. This was a man who could be cruel. He was a capo after all. He was emotionally constipated.😂😂 Sorry. He was. I wondered how he was going to learn the error(s) of his ways? How would he make up for it? To her. He was dark but soon became morally grey. Light started to show thanks to Francesca and him opening up to his children. He did make up for it. I think he did.😉 I saw his journey, the emotional depth, how he grew. It wasn't easy. But he learned despite what he did to her. His heart grew!!!😁❤️🩹❤️🩹♥️♥️ She gave him nothing and he was desperate, wanting, needing everything from her. Dante fell hard for her.😚😚😚😚 There's spice. Consensual.
And just like him, Francesca grew too. Despite the harsh reality she found herself in. She was damaged. Left jagged. But she got back up on her feet. With Bruno watching over her, and Dante doing what he had to do, expect more reveals and twists to the story. Spoiler: HEA? Yes.
This was well written. I was invested. I cared about these characters and how it would end. It was really good. I do recommend. Get your copy ASAP. I like the book cover. Happy reading.*•>§<•*💘💘💘💘💘
🤵🏻💍👰♀️Thank you to Ms Angel and Midnight Readers Promotion for an early book. The opinions shared here are my own.👰♀️💍🤵🏻
In the mafia world, women are expendable and Francesca is no exception, the one thing she craves is her freedom, but it comes at a price, at the behest of her father, she acquiesced.
Dante, a mafia man, is cold as he is ruthless, father to Lucia and Alessio. They are grieving the loss of their mother as he buries himself in work, until his hand it forced and he hires a nanny.
Francesca obscures her identity, becoming Alice. She becomes a solid figure for Lucia and Alessio. She brings fun, laughter, happiness and warmth into the house, something Dante hasn’t seen, something cracks inside his heart, because when she coaxes him to make memories with his children, it stirs feelings inside both of them, a kiss, changing everything between them.
But everything changes when Dante learns the truth of Francesca’s deception. Fuelled by his anger and rage he turns on her, her betrayal demands justice, and Francesca is left in an impossible position, she has no choice but to accept a marriage proposal to Dante.
Every girl dreams of what their wedding day will be like, not Francesca, because her marriage to Dante will be in name only, nothing more, nothing less. The same could be said for her wedding night, what was meant to be a night of pleasure and passion, was nothing more than a duty fulfilled to please her husband. She was bought in to do a job and she will do it to the best of her ability.
Their proximity is fraught with tension, their interactions cordial for the sake of the children, the push and pull igniting intense feelings and desires that are too hard to ignore. The chasm between them is deep, she cannot forget the way he treated her, yet he cannot forget her deceit.
Both on opposite sides, the trust they both fight for unattainable, even as Dante tries to flush out a mole within his own ranks. The walls that Francesca and Dante have built around each other, start to slowly come down, and he gets to glimpse what is hidden beneath Francesca’s facade, and what he finds is a beautiful and alluring woman worthy of more than what he’s given her. His entire demeanour shifts, his anger and resentment turning into something else, something more, for Francesca he becomes a man worthy of her love.
Dante’s love is not something Francesca will accept easily, and believe me Francesca makes him work for it. As Dante lays his trust and heart on the line, Francesca wants a divorce, just as they find amicable ground, Dante refuses her.
They are at an impasse. Dante showed Francesca that he has changed, that he is willing to better himself for her and his children, but it’s something she is unwilling to accept. But everything changes when Francesca and Alessio’s life is put in danger, and in that moment everything changes between Francesca and Dante.
Francesca has no idea the impact that she has had on Dante, she literally has bought him to his knees, her predicament putting everything into perspective, praying for her health and swift recovery, in the process retribution swift against the person responsible for hurting his family.
Because of Francesca, Dante has become a better man and father, and the one thing he refused to give her, he does, setting her free, but what he doesn’t expect is for her to push back, for him to fight for her, for them, his children, their family, their future. He’s at a loss for words , but not Francesca, she’s already lost so much, but with Dante, she found herself, and he became her everything, finally giving themselves to each other in pleasure, passion and love.
With her father no longer in the picture, Francesca can finally breathe, her mother can heal, and they can finally step out of the shadows and bask in the happiness of their expanding family and the love and future they both fought hard for. Two souls lost, finding their way back to each other, finding peace, comfort and solace in each other and their family.
The slow burn was perfect and the spicy scenes were on point.
Highly recommend both the author and the book. Look forward to reading what this author writes next.
I received an ARC. Therefore I am submitting a voluntary review.
4.25stars--OF LIES AND SHADOWS is the third instalment in R.G. Angle’s contemporary, adult CORRUPTED DYNASTIES dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is single father Dante Forzi, and Francesca Mori’s story line. OF LIES AND SHADOWS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Dante and Francesca) OF LIES AND SHADOWS follows in the wake of betrayal and punishment for our story line couple. Francesca Mori is a pawn in her father’s need for power, and hired as Dante Forzi’s nanny in the wake of the wife’s death, finds our heroine facing the possibility of death if her secret is revealed. Dante needs a nanny for his five year old twins but never thought he would become one of the many statistics falling for the nanny, a woman who claims to be someone else. Determined to destroy the woman with whom he was falling in love. Dante begins a slow dance of humiliation and violation in the hopes of breaking a woman who is already broken but all is not as it appears to be, and Dante finds himself facing the ultimate betrayal, a possible traitor who is targeting the people Dante has grown to love.
The world building focuses on Francesca’s spiral in the face of degradation and shame. From the proverbial frying pan into the fire, our heroine begins to withdraw into a shell that Dante no longer recognizes. Emotionally and mentally exhausted from years of abuse, our heroine faces a lifetime without love, friendship or heart.
The relationship between Dante and Francesca begins as employee and employer but quickly turns into a forced marriage of convenience. Dante is determined to break and crush the soul of our story line heroine, and in doing so, Francesca begins to disengage in both body and spirit. As the relationship slowly begins to heal, someone else is taking aim at our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of questionable, colorful and dynamic secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Francesca’s friend and bodyguard Bruno, and her father Giani Mori; Dante’s aunt Teresa, his children Alessio and Lucia; Don Salvatore, and Dante’s men Vito and Fulvio. The requisite evil has many faces.
OF LIES AND SHADOWS is a heart breaking story of betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, power and control, humiliation and heart break, forgiveness and love. The premise is dark, dramatic and sensational; the romance is edgy and emotional; the characters are broken, determined and struggling to heal.
“I hate this life. I hate these rules. I hate everything about it. People see the glitz, the money, the gold, the glamour, but they don’t see the cage we live in. I want out, always have.”
Francesca Mori has always wanted out of the mafia life—a world that looks glamorous from the outside but feels like a cage on the inside. Her chance at freedom comes with a catch: go undercover as a nanny to spy on Dante Forzi, a powerful rival don. Rewritten as Alice Winters, she steps into his home and into the lives of his five-year-old twins. Dante is cold, guarded, and still grieving—but as the walls between them start to crack, so does her resolve. When the truth comes out, forgiveness isn’t on the table… but neither is goodbye. Francesca may have been sent as a pawn, but she’s not playing by anyone else’s rules anymore.
Of Lies and Shadows is PURE PERFECTION—seriously the ultimate single dad x nanny mafia romance with just the right balance of angst, spice, danger, and heart. Her bond with the twins is adorable, and watching her crack through Dante’s cold, scarred exterior? Absolute magic. There’s betrayal, high stakes, and that emotional punch that hits you when you least expect it. The pizza-making scene is fan-club worthy, and the triple pepperoni pizza hotline? Brilliant. The story really makes you think about what freedom costs—and what people are willing to risk to get it. Also, the storytelling? So soooo good. Every twist, every glance, every slow-burn moment had me hooked. And don’t even get me started on the ending—total tearjerker. Bonus: this would make the PERFECT FATHER’S DAY READ. Oh, and Bruno? We need his story next. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
A big thanks to Midnight Readers Book PR and R.G. Angel for providing me with a digital ARC of this book!

Holy Smokes!! This is a brilliant book and I devoured it in one sitting. I honestly could not put it down! When Francesca has to act as a spy for her father, with the promise of freedom, she takes the gamble. What she doesn't expect is Dante showing her a man so different from the Mafia men her father has around their home. She is Nanny Alice to his twins, and she soon finds that feelings become entangled in her web of deceit. How does she confess to him before it is too late? She escapes one prison for another, as her lies and deception soon catch up to her, and everything she had hoped would develop between her and Dante is slayed before it begins. When Dante finds that she is the mole in his home, he shows her the monster that he can be. Treating her with disrespect and degradation. Something she will never forgive him for! This story takes a dark turn when Dante, instead of taking her death as punishment declares that she will become his wife.......but as a strong Heroine in this story she has her own agenda and adds stipulations to their wedding contract and Dante does not realise their impact until much later. A brilliant story filled with lies, a touch of dark Mafia, some added spice sprinkled in to keep things interesting and some serious sucking up from our Mafia King towards his Queen! Lucia and Alessio loved their nanny Alice, until she isn't! Her betrayal runs deep as the children still love the woman she is, even if by a different name. A great Mafia story, still with the blood and gore that Mafia men live with every day and with lies and betrayal in his own ranks, Dante finds that his most beloved are targeted, Alessio and Francesca! Now there is revenge on the agenda! Oh Yeh!! Wowsers!! A brilliant story worthy of the 5 stars and more!
I was so excited to get an ARC for this book because this author is one of my favorites but I was disappointed with this one. The story follows Francesca, the daughter of a capo in the mafia who is sent to spy a rival family. She does that under the guise of being the nanny of a recently widowed single father who is the head of the family. Francesca doesn't want anything to do with the mafia but this is her only way out for her. If she can give her family enough information to destroy their rivals, she'll be given a new life away from her abusive family so she takes the opportunity she's given. The concept of the story was good but the execution fell flat for me. Besides the barely present chemistry between the characters, one of my biggest problems with the story was the dubcon scene and the hero's behavior during the whole scene. Not ony did he take her forcibly but he showed no remorse during the whole thing and when he saw she was uncomfortable, he said she deserved worse. I know the content warning said it had dark themes but that put me off. He treated her so bad and I couldn't understand how she took him bad after that and everything else. He had every right to feel betrayed and be angry at her for spying but his behavior was honestly weird. I like a grumpy/cold hero but I feel like there's a line between that and just being a straight up a**hole. Even though he was sweet to her and tried to make up for what he did, there's nothing that could make me forgive him. 1.5 stars for Francesca and the kids because she definitely deserved better. Read the the trigger warnings before reading Tropes: 👨👩👧👦Single dad/Nanny (Spy) ❤️Grumpy x Sunshine ☠️Mafia Romance 🤵👰♂️Forced/Arranged Marriage 👩🦰Abused Heroine

I swear each book in this series just got better and better. The angst in this one was OTT. Dante and Francesca’s story just may be my favorite yet! Man did he mess up- big time. His actions were justified at the moment because Francesca did in fact lie and betray him, but his reactions and words were brutal and humiliating for her. I can’t say I didn’t enjoy though. I love when the guy in these books screws up in epic proportions and has to do some serious groveling. And Francesca definitely made him. For most of the book she didn’t cave and forgive him. She was probably one of the only mfc that actually stayed firm and gave the guy exactly what deserved and became everything he cruelly said she was- his nanny, maid, and his wh*re. Nothing more, that’s what he said she was. And I had to smile when she even demanded all that be put in their marriage contract. But as much as I loved seeing her stand her ground and make him grovel and earn her forgiveness, it got a little old too. I enjoyed watching it right up until the 69% mark. Then she actually started getting irritating and I was starting to think she was taking things too far and I no longer agreed with her actions. Dante was trying and for a man like him it showed a lot. I didn’t think it was fair how she kept comparing him to her dad and other abusive men. I was getting to point where I just wanted her to get over it and accept his acts of kindness and try to forgive him. I loved Aunt Teresa in the beginning when she didn’t let Dante give her any shit. She was a true Italian woman- strong and fierce. This book was so good and I couldn’t put it down. I’m left wanting more of this series!

Corrupted Dynasties book three is every bit as good as the first two books. This story is about Francesca and Dante and their very unusual relationship—I loved every part of it.
My heart went out to Francesca, her upbringing was so harsh, and yet she emerged intact with a generous soul. Desperately seeking the freedom most people take for granted meant she was placed in a precarious position. Even through all of this she straightened her backbone and continued to move forward.
I found Dante was a little harder to like than Francesca. I did like him and I realised he too was a victim of circumstances but he certainly made things worse for himself as well as Francesca.
Much of the story is about the main character’s relationship/romance. However, woven along with this was the fact that people were trying to topple Dante. The action and drama became intense and extremely exciting. This last section with its incredibly fast pace was terrific and everything I had come to expect in one of Ms. Angel’s stories.
I like this FMC a lot - Francesca... I fricking love that she threw Dante's bullcrap in his face every chance she got, which was every time he spoke to her. While he wanted her to scream and fight him, she stayed silent and reminded him of her place (nanny, maid, whore- Dante's exact words). I kinda wish Francesca did divorce Dante, though. It's what she wanted, and he threw the divorce papers into the fireplace. A divorce would have earned this book a 5-star rating. 🤭 Their forced marriage started really horribly, and a fresh start would have been nice since the groveling wasn't that good to me.
The MMC - Dante... eh, he could be better. I think Dante was remorseful, but I don't think he groveled enough for what he did to her. He was a really disgusting POS when he found out about Francesca's undercover work, which her father made her do (Dante held a 🔫 to her head and spit in her face, forced her to marry him and called her his whore. He took her v-card, thinking she wasn't a v. Even after he realized she was a v, he still did not care to be gentle for her first time.) Francesca reminded him of her humiliation all the time, and he did hate himself for all of that. Was it enough? Not to me.
My absolute favorite thing about this book was how much Francesca loved Dante's kids and how much they loved her. The way she loved and cared for them is what every child should experience. She also showed Dante how to open his heart to his kids and how he deserved to love them. ❤️

Captivating reading, wonderful characters and marvellous scenario that will hold readers riveted
This was a simply wonderful read and I have to admit that I read this book in one sitting, once I started reading, I simply found it impossible to put down Ie had to discover what the outcome was going to be. Francesca has been forced to spy for her father she has been promised freedom if she succeeds in finding information pertinent to him. What she never imagined was Dante who showed her that not all men were the same even those that were in the mafia. She is working as the nanny known as Alice to Dante’s twins and she soon realises that he feelings for the family is far more than a job, when Dante discovers that she is a mole in his home he shows her very plainly that he is angry and he demonstrates this with disrespect and anger and allows her to see the animal he can be. Dante the decides that he is going to make her his wife and even though he believes the contract he devised will cover everything, his heart and his children hears have other ideas and he realises that he has actually fallen for his mole. I guarantee that you will be captivated by this book and you will be looking for further books by this wonderful author. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.
✦ 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 - • enemies to lovers • undercover heroine • single dad mafia boss • forced proximity • found family • hidden identity • slow burn tension
✦ 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - Thank you so much midnightreadersbookpr and author for the free ARC! It was such a treat to dive into this world. Of Lies and Shadows left me absolutely obsessed. R.G. Angel seriously outdid herself with this one. The tension, the danger, the chemistry it was all perfectly intense from the very first page. Francesca is, without doubt, one of the strongest and most fearless FMCs I’ve ever read. I mean she doesn’t cry, she doesn’t break & she walks into the most dangerous place possible and still holds her ground like a queen. I just love her vibes so much. She’s all strength, all calm, and absolutely unforgettable. And Dante Forzi is the dangerous mafia don with a heart buried under years of scars. His soft side comes out only for his kids and slowly for her. Their connection builds slowly but hits hard. The angst, the stolen glances, the heartbreak it all gave me chills. Also… I really, really want a book for Bruno. I fell for him in every scene he showed up in. There’s so much to explore with him, and I already know I’ll love it. The emotional depth, the kids, the betrayals, the secrets, the impossible choices everything was done so well. Highly recommend
This book was a wild ride of drama, suspense, heartbreak, and redemption. I loved this book and was hooked by the first chapter. The storyline is original, page-turning, and well-paced from beginning to end. I have enjoyed R.G. Angel books in the past, and this one checked all the boxes I like to read in a dark Mafia romance. My heart broke for all the characters in this book, and loved the journey I was taken on. The ups and downs and the twists and turns kept me up all night just to finish this book. I thought the characters were complex and had very interesting backstories. They had an instant and undeniable chemistry. I enjoyed the push and pull both characters experienced in this book and was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen next. This book is a dark book and touches on dark themes and topics, so check the CW to make sure this book is for you.
Francesca had a quiet strength to her, and I loved her devotion to certain people in her life. Dante was guarded, dark, and broody. This book took my heart and broke it, but the grovel and redemption healed my tiny little ticker. I laughed, cried, and wanted to reach in and hug Francesca a few times. This book will take you through the trenches of feelings, but it is the journey of their story I liked the best, it took me through all my feels. I can't wait to see what comes next from R.G. Angel!!!!
Oh, Nanny Francesca—my heart broke for her. Her life wasn’t easy at all, and her father was a complete POS to her from the start. She wants a way out, and while her father finally offers an opportunity to escape, it comes at a major cost.
She must become Dante’s nanny and report back valuable information in exchange for her freedom. She knows this is a huge risk, since Dante is seen as a brooding, ruthless monster by most. But as she gets to know him, she discovers a softer side that few ever see.
Dante discovers her betrayal and wants to end her life. How could the woman he was starting to fall for turn out to be a liar? As much as he wants to punish her, he knows he can't because his children love her, and it would break their hearts. Instead, he forces her to marry him, but she has conditions of her own: she will be the nanny and the wh0re, his maid, nothing more.
𝑭--𝒌, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒕𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆 𝒔𝒐 𝒔𝒘𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒏 𝒚𝒐𝒖'𝒓𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒕𝒆.
Dante has made a mess of things and knows he must fix things, but is it too late? I love it when a man GROVELS, and oh boy does he grovel.

If there is an author who will make me read a book without even reading the blurb, it's RG Angel. Every single book from her has had the ability to dream, cry, laugh, and so much more. She's truly remarkable. Of Lies and Shadows is her latest release, and it's the third book from the Corrupted Dynasties series. Have you had the chance to read any books from this series? You really must. Trust me. This book explores the lives of Francesca and Dante. To be free, Francesca agreed to spy on Dante, a ruthless and terrifying mafia boss. She's supposed to be the nanny and... Dante is as ruthless as they can be. His only softness is his kids, and when he finds a "rat" inside his house... Oh my, this book was so good, so dark and intense that I couldn't stop reading it. One minute, things were going one way, and then it changed, leaving me shaking and wanting more. There were parts of the book that I wanted to get inside the story and slap someone so hard, their head would roll. It was infuriating sometimes. But then, it would change, and all was good in the world...until it wasn't. This book has all the feels. Good, bad, and ugly. You know the drill with Mafia books. I loved every single minute, and I can't wait for more. Spectacular R.G. you did it once again.
What a ride... Not just for Dante and Francesca, but also for me.
It was difficult to fall for Dante. I could feel Francesca. He's a cruel man. But he also has something in his heart. Not alone for his children. But he can't show it. He just can't 😔 And just when I (and Francesca) thought he finally can... Yeah, he could show emotions, but a very different kind of emotions 😱
There is so much betrayal and everything in this book. And sure, it all starts with Francesca. I'm shocked about the offer she took to get out of the mafia world. What a risk she took. She is such a wonderful person who just lived in the wrong world her whole life 😔 Her heart is so big. And as I said, Dante isn't the absolute bad guy. He just needs someone special in his life. Someone he can trust. In a world where betrayals are so "natural" 😔
Oh, and the twins 🩷 They are so cute 🥰 I loved them so much. They are angels. Sure, Alessio can be a little devil, but he is just experimenting 😎
Thanks to @midnightreadersbookpr and the author for trusting me with an ARC 🩷
