🌟 Don't just read history—discover the truth behind the myth! 🌟
This is not the first book of this author that I have read. I haven’t yet found a book of hers that I did not like.
A short, fast paced read, and just when you think Sophia is going to resolve everything and even her dad is coming back to life, the story twists in a completely unexpected manner.
Medusa is obviously a well known ancient mythical figure, but she’s not who you think she was and neither is Sophia.
The lesson learned is stick to the truth and be true to yourself and others no matter how much or how little you will like what you see. The opposite has severe consequences which may even take a toll on the lives of your loved ones or yourself. Don’t risk it!
I'm usually not a fan of short stories, but I'll have to admit this one managed to do a lot with the time it had. I liked the way it was written, simple but impactful. I especially appreciated the emphasis on choosing truth over comfort.
This was also the first time I listened to an AI narrated audiobook. It was a surprisingly positive experience - not much different from a regular one. It stumbled a bit on the "Dr." title (Treating it as a full sentence itself), and it was weirdly abrupt when announcing a switch in chapters. Other than that it was a really smooth listen, I'm impressed! Genuinely wouldn't have been able to tell it wasn't actually recorded by an actor for this book. (And this comes from someone who is extraordinarily picky about audiobook narrators.)
…But laying that monster to rest means confronting hard truths and taking extreme risks. However, the monster she confronts has a story of her own.
Sophia is driven by her passion for ancient secrets and the desire to know what became of her father, motivations which cause her to ignore local warnings and long-ago curses. These traits give Sophia something of an arbitrary and callous nature, making for a flawed yet intriguing character.
‘Medusa’ stands alone, yet reads almost like the prequel to a series. It should appeal to those looking for short stories featuring ancient mysteries and supernatural phenomena.
This novella packs a lot in to it's fifty-five pages. A retelling of the mythological Medusa, we see how the myth would have been recorded had Medusa been portrayed as a beautiful and intellectual woman who became a victim of a man's uncontainable last and evil.
Medusas curse is not to turn men into stone that she may never know love but to portray the truth of a person's soul. To allow us to know that none of us are innocent and we need only acknowledge and accept this truth to live freely.
A quick read of under an hour, but thoroughly enjoyable. Ariel Sanders does it again.
Okay I may be a bit biased seeing as this book has two things I love in this world Archaeology and mythology, and Ariel has written them so beautifully yet again! This short story will have you engulfed from the very first page, with each revelation the story builds. With short chapters this book is beautiful! The retelling of a classic Greek Myth! 5/5
I was hooked right from the beginning and through to the end! I’m in awe of people who can come up with a unique twist on an old myth, and spin it and unravel it so creatively. A quick, engrossing read. Highly recommend.
I enjoyed this book even more than, I had the other book by this author. Short but very full. Enjoyable, deep thought provoking. Definitely going to recommend this book to my reading group and other .
If you like Greek Mythology then you must read this book! a retelling of Medusa shines a new light onto the myth and leaves you turning the page to find out what happens next!
