Book 2 of this unique spin on Apocalyptic LitRPG Adventures.
Botanists who choose to get teleported into dangerous jungles are very rare and if Mira can survive, she may just become indispensible to the System itself.
Some interesting stuff happens, but holy grammar police, no change in the messed up writing.
First off, the bad: The author still doesn't have any friends to help point out the horrific writing that happens at times. We are not just talking about simple grammar or spelling mistakes, we are talking full sentences where words are missing or the wrong word is being utilized. I don't know if the author is only utilizing AI software or if the author's main language isn't English and they are using a translation software, but the misses are huge and obvious. So despite the interesting things in the story I can't in good conscious give the book more than three stars.
Also, spoiler...sort of. Mira does not evolve her core. What, the, hell. The last fourth of the book arch is specifically written to make her strong enough to evolve and the author doesn't do it. So unsatisfying to finish the book like this. I am not even sure I want to read the third book with the way this one was written.
Now, the good: The power of Kline COMPELS you to read this. This book seems to focus more on Kline's journey to greatness than Mira's. We get to see Kline do some amazing things to keep Mira alive.
Mira finally learns how to do alchemy, and learns some of the soul magic she supposedly has a knack for.
Aiden is back and kind of useless except as a bridge between the humans/Mira and the beasts. You get to finally learn why the cursed Wyvern came to be in his situation.
We get some more backstory on the history of the forest while also getting some more development on the side characters that actually mattered.
The side characters actually flow into the story now and start making waves that effect the forest and Mira. They also get some background into their characters that make them much better than the wet boards they were before.
There is slightly less crafting and fights and it feels more on the slice of life side with some slight politics thrown in. The fights that do happen are fairly quick so someone that enjoyed them last book will probably be disappointed this book.
I have an annoyance with how the author writes. When describing something the author typically writes likes this "it's was hot and relaxing and wonderful and fulfilling..". This is just generally annoying for me to read since I can't think of a single book where anyone writes like this. This stuff also just appears more often in the book than the first book. There is also significantly more spelling errors than before. It's like the book was typed in a phone and autocorrect had its way with some of the words.
Far worse than the first book. Editing is atrocious and makes the book so confusing to read that it becomes painful. Author attempts to explain the magic system (which is already a complete mess) and the explanations provided are so pointless and unclear that they just make everything worse. It’s obvious that no one taught the author how to be clear and concise as half the book is rambling and vague, full of errors and typos to make it even worse to read. It’s very sad that the author is so lazy and hasn’t even been bothered to have this mess edited!
This book is AwesomeSauce! I truly love it! And yeah, it happened 'xactly as I predicted it would, because Aiden and Mira finally meet up and actually temporarily become allies to do what has'ta be done for Wraithwood and the denizens that protect it!!! And don't forget Kline, Mira's cat is also working hard fighting to protect Mira, leveling up as well... So yeah grab the book, both books if you need too!!! Then make some potions...
Here's a quote:
“He’s a dragon,” I declared with all the bluster of a sixteenth-century Spanish sailor calling a Native American an Indian two years after clearly determining that America was not, in fact, India."
The internal consistency got wobbly in favor of the preferred tension pyramid. Little facts and state-of-things that got tweaked or ignored.
With that said. It was overall enjoyable. Probably a 6/10 in my personal preference for the genre. I wish she had a more opportunity to take advantage of her advantages. Like learning oodles of magics without the system. Or having time to breathe really. Whether I would recommend it depends on the next book. So... good luck. 👍
much like the first book for me, liked reading it but im still confused on size, however this whole evolution idea is felt wasn't expanded fully which was very disappointing. Although I love the mc, she often seems to magically wip out new powers ive never read about whenever she needs to, which can create some confusing story lines. That said, the writing style has definitely improved since the first book, and I like the subtle indications of future events. Can't wait for book 3!
I can honestly say that all the parts with Mira would have made this book a 5. It’s the unnecessary perspectives like Aiden’s that lowered the score. Literally his character adds nothing to the story, it also detracts from the dope solo vibe Mira has going. I would say if the author could cut the need for all the asides this would be amazing. I’m loving the magic system and the MCs progress just not the injection of uselessness.
Out of nowhere this series has jumped to the top of my fav litRPG series. Mira and Kline have won my heart as has this deadly weird forest jungle. I don't particularly care for Aiden but I'm hoping that being with Mira made him better. Quite literally made him better too. I do like the animal taming aspect he brings to this story but not the weird convoluted city family drama.
This was just as good as the first with only a few misspelled words that didn't detract from the story. I love the all the forest creatures and monsters, and Braxton is that character that you love to hate. But I just couldn't like or feel sorry for Aiden. He was a little to weak for me to care about, and I found myself agreeing with the all the monsters opinions of him. I definitely waiting for book 3.
Engrossing story and well fleshed out characters, same as the first book. Read this in two sittings.
There are some editing errors, but they're infrequent, so it's nothing insurmountable. But I've had to deduct a star for it, as it IS a minor annoyance.
That being said, I've already pre-ordered book 3. I fully recommend this series.
An overall great story, but I wasn't as engaged by the second volume. As Mira becomes overpowered, I find myself less interested, which is a common pattern I finally recognize as my own quirk. The setting is excellent. The botany aspect was my favorite theme in book one. Other words could be used besides a screaming F*** when the situation is dire.
I absolutely love this series! The world building the character building all of it is stunning. The writer has a way of keeping you engaged in the book and you can't wait to see what's going to happen next. It flows very seamlessly and hopefully I won't have to wait long for the next one!
There are so many tools to assist with editing and spellchecking. I almost took a star off just for all of the random editing errors. But decided against it as I am currently thinking about searching for the author on Royal Road or Patreon to continue the story.
Wraithwood Botanist, book two of A LitRPG Apocalypse Adventure series, is an ebook I borrowed through Kindle Unlimited (KU). Mira's adventures continue, this time her attention is turned to gaining acceptance from the guardians of the forest and the river of souls. Fast-paced with great story development, I totally enjoy this series.
Excellent writing skills, lots of action, good story line. Fortunately, more of a magic science fiction than LitRPG. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
Slow start, I expected more after reading the first book. The poor editing caused a jarring effect for me when reading - requires a second editing. Some of the newer characters were entertaining also some good ups and downs
Pretty decent if shallow story line. There is a lot of errors and the use of weird slang that doesn’t seem to fit in the story (needa??). I enjoyed it but it was a lot of description with minimal advancement.
Mira's struggle to survive in a deadly forest continues as she gets stronger, so too do her enemies. Her allies continue to gather and the politics gets thicker. Looking forward to the next one in December.
Wonderful and interesting new take on skills and systems love the classes and world building created. Can’t wait until the next one is out to continue!!!!!! Keep up the amazing work
Don’t leave a lot of time between each book. The concepts and how they work is so intricate, I found myself needing to brush up on how the world worked. Between mana, neara, aura, and more, it’s very creative but almost needs a glossary to refer to.
