Kevin Do was born and raised in Toronto, a major Canadian city sitting beside Lake Ontario.
After exiting software development, Kevin has spent the last few years reading and writing sci-fi thrillers and has transitioned to writing LitRPGs. When he’s not playing video games, reading or being terminally online, he’s writing his next book.
Kevin loves violence and over-the-top action in all the media he consumes.
This is one of the few LitRPG books I've read as I don't typically read this genre, but the action and Dan's path to a Tier 1 agent is a fun read. There are a lot of fight scenes, extensive world building in our Earth in the next milennia, and a good sense of video game-esque imagery that hardcore readers of the genre would appreciate. There is also an interwoven found family and betrayal thread that make for good character building and plot twist. I would highly recommend for readers of LitRPG with an interest in hand-to-hand combat, strategic outmanuvering, and dark, gritty worlds.
This gripping story immediately draws readers in with its immersive dystopian world, blending cyberpunk, military sci-fi, and LitRPG. Author Kevin Do skillfully incorporates detailed, game-like stats—even for in-world items—making the experience engaging enough for readers to track character progress. This is a great first novel, and I can't wait to see what this author writes next.
I'm not typically a litrpg reader but I am glad I gave this one a chance. I became invested in the main characters journey from page one and the story as a whole was interesting enough that it kept me engaged and entertained. The gaming/progression aspects didn't pull me out of the story like they have in others I have tried.
The world building and back story is very creative. I'm interested in learning more about the back stories of other agents. I will definitely be reading future books to see where it goes from here.
Alpha Agent throws you straight into the chaos from page one and never lets up. I liked how the story balanced fast-paced combat with Dan’s growth, giving the whole thing that underdog-clawing-his-way-up vibe. It’s definitely got that cyberpunk edge but still feels fresh in the way it mixes survival, power progression, and big moral stakes. If you’re into LitRPG or sci-fi thrillers, this is a solid start to a series.
Cool cyber punk setting. I haven’t seen much progression fantasy cyber punk. The growth system was interesting and I really enjoyed the world building. The MC was cool and shows a lot of potential even though he isn’t quite there yet. Over all I enjoyed the story.
“Alpha Agent” kicks off with Dan getting a machete to the back in crime-ridden New York, which is definitely one way to grab your attention right from chapter one.
The mysterious Alpha Corporation saves his life but gives him the ultimate ultimatum—become their super-soldier agent or die—which launches him into a completely different world with RPG-style stats, armor, and weapons.
Dan’s first mission to crush a rebellion in Amethyst city throws him right into the deep end of his new powers as a “shard agent,” which is basically a mass-produced super-soldier in Alpha Corp’s ongoing arms race.
If you’re into stories like The Primal Hunter or Iron Prince and a protagonist who has to fight his way up from rock bottom, this story delivers what you’re looking for.
I had my hesitation in the beginning on how Dan just accepted his lot in life. Seeing as he had no choice I thought he was going to be a petulant MC.......HE WAS NOT. It something to be enamored . An MC that can actually follow orders and work hard yet still keep his own individuality. He's not some OP young punk with a morality complex. He does what needs to be done in the moment. I love it! All with witty quips and bad ass actions. I'm invested in these characters and can't wait to read the rest of this series. Keep going DO boy!!!!!
I love the cyberpunk genre and this one hits it hard. The story follows the recruitment, training and subsequent missions Dan goes on. Although I felt the story was a little slow to start with, it soon sped up into a late night page turner of a book that I just couldn't put down. I love the unique 'levelling up' system that matches the protagonist's experience. High octane and extreme violence throughout.
If you are illiterate then you will like this book. Many phrases that make it seem like this book was poorly translated. Author definitely hates the US.
