I loved A Thorn in Every Heart so much, I practically begged for an ARC of this book. And I wasn’t disappointed.
📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: A Storm in Every Heart by Kate King
📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Enchanted Legacies character series. Book 2.
📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book ARC on Kindle. 🆓 on KU.
📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Fantasy romance
📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: Siren, he falls first, fated mates, hate-to-love, all of the pining.
📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Odessa is a beautiful siren stuck on land, who has been unbearably cold to Kastian since he met her. But he continues to be drawn to her, even as it’s revealed their shared history is much more than he thought.
🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: I know so many fantasy purists who are going to hate me for this, but I adore the no-rules fantasy that Kate King has created with this series. And I love fairytale retellings, without exception.
It’s humans and fae realms combined. It’s pop culture references and magic. It’s mirroring fairytales I love but with unique twists. It’s modern language that feels forgivable and nods to my favorite movies. I’m all in and I can not wait for more.
A Storm in Every Heart was so good. There was banter and this soul-deep longing that was woven through every interaction that Odessa and Kastian had. I love a man who is a complete simp, even when he can’t explain why. The plot moved so fast I could hardly believe it was 500 pages.
My guess for next time? Aladdin vibes all the way.
This one is a retelling of The Little Mermaid and The Princess Bride, and it was enjoyable. I LOVED the first book in the series, and I received an ARC of this book. This one took me longer to read because it felt too long (500 pages) and could have been shorter. I liked the plot's complexity and buildup, as well as the characters’ growth. We have fated mates in this one, but it was executed differently that I liked. There was great banter and a soul-deep longing woven through every interaction Odessa and Kastian had. I loved Kastian being so head-over-heels for Odessa, even for no reason. The audiobook is dual, not a duet, which was a total bummer because it could have made the listening experience so much better.
Kate King has a way of writing that makes you feel like you’re living inside the storm she creates—messy emotions, impossible choices, and characters who feel so real they practically breathe beside you. This book grabbed me from the very first page and refused to let go. The tension is constant, the chemistry electric, and the stakes feel sky-high in every scene.
I found myself highlighting passages just because the words were that beautiful, even when they broke my heart. It’s one of those stories that makes you feel everything all at once—love, anger, hope, frustration—and somehow you’re grateful for every second of the chaos.
By the end, I wasn’t just invested in the romance, I was invested in them as people. This wasn’t just a book I read—it was one I felt.
I would give 4.5 star if I could! Thank you Kate for my ARC copy I screamed when I received it from excitement!
I actually loved it more than the first book. the pace was great, I loved the past scenes it really built up the story and character development.
the lil mermaid x princess bride references were great especially having a siren queen that resembled Ursula!! fab!
I just really wish we had more of Connell. I think we were introduced to him and I was expecting a back story, some development and obviously something is going on there with Jett!
I am wondering if it is an Easter egg for the next book? gosh I hope so !!
Full review to follow : Once again I’m in love with the way this author brings a fairy tale retelling to life. Odessa was so much fun in book one that I was thrilled she was getting her own book. Little mermaid with all the snark, sass and sauciness. Kastian is grumpy, protective and would burn the world down for her, even if she would fight him on that (and she probably would !!). I just loved the dynamic and story between the two of these two as well as a couple lovable side characters thrown in for fun. I can’t wait to see where we get taken next !!!
UNPUTDOWNABLE!!! Omg I could not stop reading this! It’s non-stop action and romance and insanely good!! This story is so unique! I’ve read a lot of Little Mermaid retellings- they’re one of my favorites but I have never read a Princess Bride retelling and I was so excited to see how Kate King would mix those up! After finishing this I have to say the vibes are perfect!!! It has all the action, adventure, swoon worthy romance and nostalgia of those two stories while also being completely original and unique! Okay so our main characters- Odessa and Kastian. I read the book that came before this one too so I feel like I got to know Odessa a little and I liked her diva vibe then, well now I love her. She is so smart and sassy but also kind of high maintenance and let’s be real that’s very relatable! Fantasy novels always have everyone riding endlessly on horseback and no baths and everyone is just okay with it but ngl I would die and also complain endlessly I’m a passenger Princess and I love that Odessa gives this vibe but also has absolutely no shame about it. Especially because Kastian, (who is an absolutely delicious snack of a man with a filthy mouth 😮💨 🥵) definitely loves to indulge Odessa and he’s just the cinnamon roll MMC of my dreams! His possessive “touch her and die” energy is so hot too!! I really loved the way the siren lore was worked into this book too, the history gave me chills and I felt like it was unique and thoroughly explained. I also loved the flashbacks. Since it was hinted at (in the previous book) that Odessa and Kastian have a history I love that we actually got to read all of the details of their story and I like how the flashbacks were mixed in every few chapters. It kept this book really compelling and I just couldn’t stop reading it! Also side characters I’m obsessed with- Jett- always liked him from book 1, glad he made an appearance here and I’m even more intrigued by him now! And a new character Connell- omg, if villain… why so hot!?!? 😆 This book can be read as a standalone (although I highly recommend the book that came before this one it was so good too) and it does have a HEA! Infinity ⭐️’s, I really loved this one!!! Can’t wait to see which characters are in the next book! Thank you to the author for my eARC, all thoughts and opinions are 💯 my own!
Thank you to the author for this eARC! A Storm in Every Heart is book 2 of the Enchanted Legacies series and has The Little Mermaid meets The Princess Bride vibes with a dash of Pirates of the Caribbean. Overall, this book was just okay for me. I loved book 1, A Thorn in Every Heart. I was really drawn to the 29yo FMC with her real life problems, internal monologues, and pop culture references. I loved mixing that with cursed fae and portal fantasy. I’m also a sucker for anything with Beauty and the Beast or Anastasia vibes. The twist at the end of book 1 was dark and surprising, whereas A Storm in Every Heart felt more predictable and less exciting. The bickering between Odessa and Kastian got a bit annoying, but I did enjoy learning more about their pasts. The dynamic between the sirens and their queen was super interesting, and I would have loved to see more of that.
I absolutely loved A Thorn In Every Heart (easily my favourite retelling book ever to exist now) so when I found out she was doing a second book A Storm In Every Heart focusing on Odessa and Kastian I had to JUMP at the possible opportunity; so thank you so much Kate King for allowing me to read your book in advance!🥹
This book was SO well done 🥹 I absolutely loved Odessa's character in the first book; and it carried over so beautifully within this one. We find out more about her backstory and it completely shreds your heart! Kas the MMC was another favourite from the previous book and again this book divulges his backstory perfectly!
I love how this book has multiple POV and different timeframes. I was engaged and invested from start to finish (that ending 😩)
This book from a retelling standpoint was original and did not disappoint at all; it brought the plot, it brought the spice and everything your heart could desire in a book!
To say this book was addicting is putting it mildly. On the first chapter I did NOT want to put it down. This was a fairytale retelling of the little mermaid and the princess bride and it 110% lived up the hype. Kastian and Odessa’s back and forth banter was perfect and the tension and spice between them 👏🏻 This does have a HEA and it was perfect all the way through
Thank you Kate King for the EARC! Such an enjoyable read, easy 4 stars! More detailed review to come.

I LOVED this book; I finished the eARC in less than a day while on a cross country flight home!
ASIEH is a spicy, fairy tale retelling that pulls aspects from The Little Mermaid, The Princess Bride and a bit of Pirates of the Caribbean. The story was SO FUN and the chemistry between the main characters is incredible!
The book alternates between flashbacks to when the characters were younger & the current timeline which I really enjoyed as a way to help understand the dynamic between them that was shown in the previous Enchanted Legacies book. You definitely don't NEED to have read ATIEH first, however it does make for a better reading experience in my opinion.
I can't wait to see who the next Enchanted Legacies book is about!!
I recieved an advance reader copy of A Storm In Every Heart in exchange for an honest review.
A mix mash retell of The Little Mermaid x Princess Bride (or, for me, I felt a little Pirates of the Caribbean)? Yes please! This book features a land siren and fae kinda-ex prince who have yearned for each other for a century and *finally* decide to do something about it. There is no, young, barely adult characters to be found in this fantasy book, which I REALLY appreciated.
I couldn't read this book faster. Finished in 2 sittings. Who knew I needed fairytales to be retold in fun and twisty ways with with a whole lotta spice 🌶️🌶️ thrown in? Fabulous read.
Siren x Fae Soul Bonds & Wings Miss Independent Just "Once" Ships & Castles Fantasy Romance
This book was so much fun to read. It was a retelling blend between The Little Mermaid, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Princess Bride.
We met Odessa and Kastian in the first book of this series, and even from the small glimpses that we got of them together in that book, I knew we would get lots of spice and angsty energy in this book. It did not disappoint. Kastian and Odessa have a complicated relationship. From the flashbacks, we are able to tell that they know each other from the past, but very early on, we learned about a curse that was cast on both Odessa and Kastian. If you have watched any of the movies this book was a blend of, you can probably guess what the curse is like. Either way, when we are in the present, Kasitan has no idea they have a connection, but she can't help needling him, and he can't stay mad at her, and likes pissing her off as well.
I really enjoyed this book overall. Once I started reading it, I didn't want to stop. I loved all the little nods to some of my favorite movies through the book. The "As you wish" lines had me squealing because The Princess Bride is easily one of my favorites.
I can't wait to see what the next book will be, but I'm hoping it will be Jett's story, or even silent Fox's. Either way, I can't wait for more!
I didn't enjoy the banter between these two as much as I did the first book. I liked Odessa as a character, but I didn't like her as much during her interactions with Kastian. I get trying to protect or distance yourself, but being hurtful shouldn't be your go to. It says more about you than them.
*MF *Romantasy *Dual-1st-PoV *Fairytale retelling *Two Timelines *Hate to Love *Cursed FMC *Ousted MMC *Soul Bonds *Second Chance *Mid Burn *Standalone Sirens, second chances and secrets! Ooofftt another great book in this Enchanted Legacies World 😁 this story follows Dessa, who you would have met in Book 1 - this can definitely be read as a standalone but it does give a greater satisfaction and understanding after having read the first book. Dessa has an instant and intense hate towards Kastian; she will do anything to stay out of his way and put a barrier between them. Whereas Kastian just can’t help but be drawn to her 😣 there’s a lot of snark between them but an undeniable attraction that keeps on sparking 🔥 honestly when these to come together it’s seggsy fireworks 🎇 it’s clear that there so much more to their story and the snippets from the past help show that greater depth to their connection- really enjoyed this aspect! There’s some heart breaking moments as you learn what Dessa gave up and the struggles Kastian face but there’s some real heart warming ones as well as they realise what their journey has been - some of it I saw coming but it was still an enjoyable read 😁
This is what you get when you cross The Little Mermaid with a little Pirates of the Caribbean and a splash of Princess Bride, and it works so well!
This story runs two timelines, the present and the past. We see how Odessa and Kastian met in the distant past, as well as when they were both young adults before a curse befell the kingdom. While the curse is broken, Odessa has other secrets she’s keeping, including the reason she’s being so cold and aloof towards Kastian. And while he gives it right back to her, he can’t deny her beauty.
The problem? He feels the beginnings of a bond with his soul mate, but ‘knows’ that he lost her long ago.
The angry banter between these two! And when they ignite, that anger really seems to fuel the passion, leading to a very spicy night. I loved that Odessa, while a beautiful “princess” (she doesn’t truly consider herself one) is feisty and strong. And when they finally realize they ARE soul mates, and what Odessa might be forced to do to protect Kastian, ugh the heartache!
In the end, Kastian makes a deal to stay alive, and Odessa starts to return to the sea until she realizes that Kastian is alive. Odessa is able to break the deal she made so long ago to save his life, and returns to land with Kastian. And they will live a joyous life together on the sea!
Some favorite quotes: My papa always said I had a temper like a stormy sea. “I don’t hate you, Dessa, even if you are the most infuriating woman I’ve ever met.” “Arrogant prick.” “Spoiled princess.” I want to know the names of everyone who’s ever touched her so I can find them and kill them slowly and painfully. “Do you believe that your curiosity is worth more than my privacy?” … there are only so many second chances, and I’ve already used mine up. I’m looking forward to winning her over, because when I do it will feel like I’ve won something priceless. Something inevitable. She’s already mine, and no fated bond or siren curse is going to stop me from claiming her. “I don’t give a fvck about fate. I don’t want it, I only want you.” If I have to become a monster to save him, then fine—I’ll be the worst monster this ocean has ever seen. If I have to become something monstrous to save her, then I’ll do it. I die for her a thousand times over, so what’s different about living for her? Following in the footsteps of thousands of men before me, I dive beneath the dark waves, chasing after a siren, prepared to drown rather than lose her to the sea. “I thought you were dead!” “And you thought that meant you could leave me? Nothing is going to take you away from me, not even death.”
If you love a story with 100 years of yearning, dual timeline, he has a tattoo of her face, he's obsessed / she's in denial, pirates sirens and hot guys with wings, and she falls first he falls harder, then check out A Storm in Every Heart!
I received an advanced review copy from the author. This review contains my honest opinion and is being left voluntarily.

Another fantastic installment in the Enchanted Legacies series!!
🧜🏼♀️ Loved the second chance romance between Dessa and Kastian! I’m loving the trope more than I used to and it was done so well in this book. 🧜🏼♀️ The use of flashbacks was fun. I liked getting a richer and more fleshed out background of their romance. 🧜🏼♀️ There were so many great twists and turns with Dessa and the mystery surrounding her identity as a siren. Loved the way the plot unfolded toward the end of the book! 🧜🏼♀️ There were definitely some nods to The Princess Bride here and there, but mostly elements of The Little Mermaid and Pirates of the Caribbean! 🧜🏼♀️ The spice was SPICIN’ 🤌🏻🥵 🧜🏼♀️ Once again, Alix’s references to the modern human world were perfect. “Jett’s Lag” killed me 😂 🧜🏼♀️The “lost soul-bond” narrative did get a little repetitive. Of course it’s her…just a bit obvious from the beginning and it got a bit old.
Overall, love this series so much and cannot wait for more! A Holiday in Every Heart (a holiday novella) comes out November 7th, so we don’t have to wait long for a little more from our favorites 😍😍
Favorite Quotes:
✨“Hydratta is a wildebeest.” “A wildcard?” Alix corrects, smiling.” (I work at a zoo and I was dying 😂)
✨ “It says “A LOT GOING ON AT THE MOMENT” in big, black and red lettering.” (Aurelia is my fave and Alix is a Swiftie and I’m obsessed with that 🫶🏻)
✨ “It’s madness and clarity all at once, like running headlong into a storm knowing full well you may never come out the other side unchanged.”
✨ “He tastes like salt and summer storms—like every reckless thing I’ve ever craved and never thought I’d have.”
Thank you SO much to the author for the chance to read ASIEH early as an ARC reader 💜💜
Odessa and Kastian have a hot and cold relationship. One minute, their disdain for each other results in quips and barbs, the next, they’ve agreed to ‘just once’. When an enemy kingdom requests Odessa’s hand in marriage, she agrees in an effort to ease tensions, while Kastian is vehemently opposed. What begins is a tale of swashbuckling lady-napping, seggsy adventures in swamps and a forced marriage.
This book was such a fun read and had me so excited to dive back in whenever I could. I liked how feisty and sometimes grumpy our FMC Odessa was. She had some secrets she was keeping that we weren’t privy to, and I was consistently eager to figure out what was happening next! Kastian was so down bad for our lady, which is always my FAVORITE part of a book. The wing bursting, in particular, had me all sorts of hot and bothered! He’s so hawt, desperate to save his lady and is finding out all of the secrets along with us. I was enamored with all of the little bits and bobs inspired by The Little Mermaid, as well as the Pirates of The Caribbean influence. It had me giggling, kicking my toes and eager to keep turning the page. I absolutely recommend this book!
What I Loved About This Story: ✨Little Mermaid & Pirates of The Caribbean inspired… but so much more! ✨Fae, sirens, shapeshifters & undying captains ✨Amnesia / mysterious interactions in the past ✨”Just this once…” ✨Dual timeline & dual POV
Thank you to the author for the free early copy of this book; my review is all my own.
You get introduced to these characters in the first book and I love that Kastian and Odessa got their own story! You continue after the events that happen in A Thorn in Every Heart. However, you do not need to have read it to understand what is happening. The author does an amazing job to keep you in the loop
I absolutely loved the banter between these characters! I also really enjoyed the dual timeline. The flashbacks gave me that extra insight on their feelings and years of yearning. It was absolutely swoon worthy. Their chemistry was on fire! Loved the recurrence of previous characters and their crazy band of found family!
ARC Review of A Storm in Every Heart by Kate King: 5⭐ 3🌶️ I read the first book in this series and I didn't think it could get any better but it did. I loved Odessa in A Thorn in Every Heart and was so glad her story was going to be told. This girl has sacrificed so much and no one really knew how much she gave up. I loved the Little Mermaid/The Princess Bride/Pirates of the Caribbean vibes of this book. You can tell where each aspects of each movie shows up in this book and I am absolutely grateful to Kate for doing that. Other retelling I have read in the past haven't given me that. The story was full of action, tension from yearning on both sides and humor from the side characters. So good! Can't wait for Alix and Daemon's novella and to hear who the next book will be about.
This is book two in the series, and I have been excitedly looking forward to Odessa and Kastian’s story since meeting them in ATIEH. I love Odessa so much and had such high hopes for this book going into it – and I was not disappointed. At times, I was annoyed with how stubborn Odessa is and the way she interacts with Kastian, but overall, I still love her as much as I did while reading ATIEH.
I thought I despised Thorne in ATIEH, but Magnus is worse. There's no curse lending an explanation to his sociopathy. His daughter Lyra was interesting and I hope we see more of her in future books.
The immortal Captain Connell was entertaining and I'm wondering if he'll be part of Jett’s book… 🤔
I received a free advance copy of this book from the author.
This second chance romance x Little Mermaid retelling is great! It gives you a little bit of the familiar while also being completely unique. I love that we also get some Pirates of the Caribbean vibes too! Odessa and Kastion are a fun couple. Definitely a lot of mutual pining while pretending they don’t like each other. I liked the way the chapters were spread out among both of their POVs and at different ages. You get little pieces throughout the story until it all converges together to make the clear picture. We get the see familiar faces from ATIEH and I am loving Jett! I think he will be a fun story when he gets his turn. I will say the final confrontation felt a little briefly/easy, but overall I loved this and I cannot wait to do a reread of the series with the audiobooks someday!
This was such a fun, easy-to-devour twist on a classic fairytale—layered with new twists and just the right sprinkle of spice. The FMC is fiery and unapologetically bold, torn between the truth of what she is and the impossible task of protecting the one person she can never truly have.
Our MMC? He was delicious—aching for the attention of the one woman determined to ignore him. Add in found family vibes and a perfectly executed “touch her and die” moment, and I was hooked. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us!
This is a little bit of The Little Mermaid with a dash of The princess Bride and just a small sprinkle of The Pirates of the Caribbean all mixed into the second book for the Enchanted Legacies series!
I absolutely loved this one. You do need to read A Thorn in Every Heart prior to reading this (which I also loved) this one has a lot of yearning. You get a little bit of everything with this one. Deals, curses, evil sea queen, sirens, sea monsters, and of course pirates. I love the world Kate King has created, and I can not wait to see more of it.
Audiobook. Library. I really enjoyed a Thorn in Every Heart but man this one was even better. I loved Odessa and Kastian and their banter. I also really enjoyed the way the past and present scenes wove together.
I absolutely LOVED this book. I have loved Odessa since she was introduced in the first book in this interconnected standalone series, and grew to love her even more. Kastien is such a fantastic MMC also. And the way this book is written!! Perfection. Getting to have chapters in the past from both character POVs really was the cherry on top and tied everything together flawlessly. If Kate King writes it, I am buying it. This is a must read!!
