When your starship's computer undergoes a catastrophic meltdown, light years from help, it's bad.
When you are that ship's computer, it's worse.
Fresh from the destruction of the colony they were assigned to protect, the UES Interchange is now hurtling toward Proxima Centauri, there to rally reinforcements against the tide of revolutionary rage currently rocking the galaxy.
But when they arrive, they find the heart of galactic civilization eerily quiet...and empty. At the same time, Sergeant Henry Morgan, the ship's computer, is utterly unresponsive.
The curtain is about to be pulled back on a secret so dark it will break the crew of the Interchange right down the middle.
In its wake, the only question to answer will be whether their mission can continue at all.

I felt quite frustrated reading through all the filler and repetitive discussions. Nothing was straight forward. Every attempt to resolve a problem always resulted in things not going as expected so that, without rest, another problem or two had to be solved. Proof reading? There were so many mixed up words, extra words, unnecessary words, misspelled words, double words that the author either tried to modify after the proof reading had been performed or the proof reading was defective. For grammar, I'm a little old fashioned in that the word "like" is improperly used, and the gerund takes a possessive. In the last few pages of the book we get a few pending issues finally resolved which was a great relief to me as I kept wishing for a satisfactory resolution as I progressed through the book.
I haven’t changed my opinion on the poor quality of some of the characters that are either entirely self absorbed to the point where they’re contemptuous of their fellow humans, caring nothing about whether they live or die as long as they accrue their own goals. While these differ from group to individual selfish desires that doesn’t truly matter.
Of course there are external forces that wish or outright plan to destroy or capture the Interchange for their own benefit. These forces are a mixture of false allies and declared enemies. However the factions are gathered they have the virtue of their respective opposing needs & viewpoints being their own. Not being themselves human they are at least not seeking the destruction of their own species…
I have been enthralled with this series from the beginning and this > book did not disappoint in the least. There is lots going on outside > the ship that with the crew out of Offset must contend with, the very > idea of someone wanting to overthrow Captain Seemey after all he's > done for this group seem implausible but sad that it's true. And the > joiners to this group is surprising. And what has happened to > Sergeant Henry Morgan? He's the heart of the ship but someone has > taken him offline until his true nature is identified. Thank you, > Scott Barrett, for another fantastic story. Looking forward to the > next book.
The series to date has given us a very good story line, plot twists and turns and plenty of action to keep us reading. I’ve been looking forward to this book to see where it would take us. It opens with a mystery about Sergeant Henry Morgan, the RM and leads us off to new plot twists from there. What is the ship heading into and how will the ship operate without the assistance from the RM?
This was another good story in this series and as before, I look forward to reading the next book. I gave the book 5 stars as I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to the next. I received an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Now with the RM (Reconstituted Mind), not working, and the INTERCHANGE almost at their destination, their sensors are picking up hostile forces ahead. Are the helpful species the Cats, ok and able to assist captain Seemey? How is the ship going to fight or operate long distances without the RM to monitor systems while the crew is in “offset”? Unbeknownst to the captain, there may be dark forces trying to incite mutiny. Surprises abound that will keep you glued to reading this well written book. Enjoy!
A massive surprise awaits the crew as they wake to a damaged ship and no one at the helm. Where is the "AI" that is supposed to be keeping them safe. Things may not be what they seem as they hurtle through Space, The crew are mutinous, aliens are everywhere, or are they friends, has something happened to earth, where are they supposed to be going. Oh dear! Late night reading leaves me knackered for golf.
The title of The Scattering Stars is aimed at readers gazing at the vastness of space with some amazement. For me, though, it is more of an amazing promise what humankind may one day reach and explore. Not that any of this is evident at the start of this book by author Scott Bartlett. Instead we are treated to a plot where the starship, the UES Interchange, is hurling towards Proxima Centauri but with a silent mutiny brewing against Commander Seemey. And where the ship's RM, Henry Morgan, has disappeared for seven years already for no apparent reason. What happened consequently is a huge surprise and absolutely mesmerising. This entire series is simply extraordinary and each book in the series something not to miss out on. Enjoy.
I found the concept of space travel very interesting and how it would affect people in different ways depending on their personality. A good book that i recommend.
Another very good book in this series, a very good storyline and the usual excellent Characters with Henry Morgan the ship's RM missing , the stirrings of mutiny in the air and the enemy in hot pursuit things look bleak for Captain Seemey do things improve or deteriorate even further, read and find out, I recommend it very highly buy and enjoy.
