She’s all warmth and Christmas cheer, everything he swore he didn’t need, until he can’t imagine letting her go.
After the Army chewed me up and spit me out, I came to these mountains to disappear. No noise. No people. No Christmas cheer. Just me, my cabin, and the ghosts I can’t shake.
Then she crashes into my life—literally—stranded in a snowstorm with a busted Jeep and enough holiday spirit to make my head spin.
Holly Bennett is everything I’m not. Bright. Warm. Hopeful. She decorates my porch, hums Christmas songs, and makes my cabin smell like sugar cookies instead of sawdust and whiskey.
I told myself I didn’t need anyone. That I was too broken for more than a quiet life and a cold bed. But the way she looks at me makes me want things I swore I’d buried for good.
This Christmas, the woman I never wanted here might be the only one who can melt the ice around my heart. And I’ll be damned if I let her walk back down this mountain without knowing she belongs here—with me.
Christmas with the Wounded Mountain Man is a heartfelt, high-heat holiday romance featuring a brooding ex–Army Ranger with scars that run deep, a sunshine heroine who refuses to let him hide, snowed-in tension that burns hotter than the fire, and the kind of love that heals what was never meant to stay broken.
Chris Walker was a scarred Army Ranger who isolated himself in the mountains. But Holly Bennett would soon be changing that situation. But for now, he has to convince his mother that he is okay and is not coming home for Christmas. He wants his solitude and knows how to keep himself calm. He is just not comfortable being around other people, and he can work off the stress by chopping wood -- far more than he needs, but still therapeutic and not wasted. All he needs is silence, solitude, and distance between himself and the rest of the world. After his time in the military, it has become important that he can keep from hurting anyone else. She doesn't want him to become a wounded animal -- yet that is what he has become. And he may be beyond repair. Now, when he sets up another log to chop, he hears a car struggling through the snow on a barely passable hill... followed by a crash! He jumps in his diesel truck and heads toward the main road to help. He finds a Jeep Cherokee smashed nose-first against an enormous boulder, a small woman standing next to it. He snarls as he asks what she is doing on this road in this weather, but she immediately replies that she was following GPS directions to a cabin rental. He looked at her screen and saw the GPS trying to take her to the old Brennan place which had burned up 3 years ago! And she had already paid to rent it! Regretting his words, he offered to take her to his cabin to use his phone and call someone. At least she will be out of this weather.
He finds that she is full of Christmas cheer, decorating his porch and humming Christmas songs. Can she change his attitude and heal his painful memories? Is it time to melt the ice that keeps him numb and let her warmth draw him to her?
Chris Walker is a former Army Ranger who was severely wounded and forced to leave the Army. He went back home to Texas, but he no longer fit in there. So he moved to the cabin his grandfather had left to him in the Montana mountains to be left alone. He doesn't need anyone; he wants no Christmas decorations. He just wants to be left alone; it's what he deserves.
He wants the solitude to remember the ghosts of his past—the ones he can never forget. Kandahar, Afghanistan, changed his life forever. He'll never be able to return to who he once was.
His parents want him to come home for Christmas, where his mother will try to feed him to death, and his father will walk on eggshells trying not to upset him.
No he's staying right where he is—alone. He semi-lies to her by saying he must go because the weather is changing... It is, but it won't make any difference to him.
Then Holly Bennett crashes into his life. He heard a vehicle coming up the barely passable road and could tell it was having problems, then he heard a crash. Since there are few guardrails and many steep drop-offs on the road, he knows he has to go help the driver.
Her Jeep has smashed into a boulder and is leaking fluid, so it will have to be towed away. Turns out her rental cabin was a scam. The place had burned down three years ago. Luckily she will be issued a refund, but by the time she'll receive it, her vacation will be over.
All she wanted was to get away from Denver for a week at Christmas to rethink her life. She had established an event planning business four years ago, but her partner and best friend, Jessica, had embezzled almost forty thousand dollars of her business funds before she left. Jessica had a gambling addiction. The worst thing was that Jessica had been her best friend, and yet she never knew that side of her. Insurance paid for most of the loss, but Holly used almost all of her money to repay her clients. Her reputation was ruined, and she had to close the company. She's starting over at twenty-eight with little more than spunk, optimism, and a stressed bank account. And then she fell for a scam! But she's lucky to have Chris come to her rescue.
She knows that he doesn't want her there, but his sense of decency won't let him turn her away. They're both broken individuals, but they both see the worth in the other person—the worth they have trouble seeing within themself. After all, Christmas is a time of miracles—the miracles of healing and finding love.

If you’ve ever felt too broken to be loved—or too tired to believe in miracles—this story is for you.
Chris Walker isn’t the man he used to be. The war took pieces of him he’ll never get back, and what’s left prefers silence, solitude, and the steady hum of pain he’s learned to live with. His mountain cabin in Montana is his fortress—no family, no small talk, and definitely no Christmas cheer.
Then Holly Bennett crashes—literally—into his life. Her Jeep’s totaled, her Christmas getaway is a scam, and her optimism burns so bright it makes his darkness ache. She’s warmth in human form: humming carols, baking cookies, and refusing to let the storm—or Chris’s walls—break her spirit.
At first, she’s everything he doesn’t want. But as the snow falls and the fire crackles, she becomes everything he can’t let go.
Tessa McRae weaves a story that’s as tender as it is steamy, balancing quiet heartbreak with the slow bloom of hope. The chemistry between Chris and Holly is instant but earned—the kind that grows in small gestures, hesitant laughter, and the long, aching silences of two people learning to trust again.
This isn’t just a Christmas romance. It’s a story about healing side by side—about choosing connection when fear says to shut down, and discovering that love doesn’t erase scars, it helps you live with them.
💔 Chris’s Lesson: You can survive alone, but you heal with someone. 🎁 Holly’s Lesson: Sometimes the miracle isn’t what you planned—it’s who you find when everything falls apart.
If you love:
Grumpy x sunshine dynamics
Snowed-in, forced proximity
Veteran heroes with quiet strength
Small-town mountain settings
Healing, heart, and heat
Then Christmas With the Wounded Mountain Man will wrap you in flannel, cocoa, and emotion—and remind you that even the coldest hearts can thaw when love knocks on the door.
This book isn’t just a romance; it’s a Christmas redemption story—proof that sometimes the best gifts are the ones that find you when you’ve stopped believing you deserve them.

Chris thinks he wants silence. After war took too much from him, the only place he feels halfway whole is his remote mountain cabin. No distractions. No people. No holiday cheer. Just him, his tools, and the ghosts he can’t shake.
Then Holly crashes into his life, snowbound with a totaled Jeep and more holiday spirit than he knows what to do with. She’s warm, bright, and all heart, the kind of chaos he swore he didn’t need. But she sees past his silence and makes him want things he thought were gone for good.
As the storm closes in, so does their connection. Chris tries to keep his distance, but Holly doesn’t back down. What begins as survival shifts into trust, vulnerability, and something real. With every shared glance and quiet moment, they start to break through what’s been holding them both back.
Something that starts as survival slowly turns into trust, and maybe even something worth staying for. In the quiet after the storm, Chris and Holly begin to build more than just shelter. They start building a future.
Chris learns to face his past without letting it define him. Holly rediscovers her purpose and strength after everything she’s lost. What begins as strangers trapped by circumstance becomes a love rooted in choice, trust, and healing.
A steamy, instalove, grumpy sunshine, snowed-in, forced proximity, veteran hero, small town mountain man romance exploring trauma, trust, vulnerability, love after loss, found family, second chances, survival, and hope. It’s about choosing connection when fear says to shut down. It’s about healing side by side and building something that lasts.
The Elevator Pitch: A brooding mountain man wants nothing to do with Christmas or company until a snowstorm strands a bright, stubborn woman on his doorstep. Trapped together in the cold, sparks ignite and buried wounds surface, pulling them into something raw, tender, and unexpectedly real. It's a steamy, emotionally charged romance about choosing connection when it's easier to stay broken.
The quiet solitude of the Montana mountains has long been a haven for wounded souls, and Chris is no exception. Haunted by the ghosts of his past as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan, he’s become a man he barely recognizes, one who hides from the world and even from his own family at Christmas. But fate has other plans when Holly Bennett crashes into his life. Stranded with a demolished jeep and an oncoming blizzard, Holly has no choice but to seek shelter with the reclusive mountain man who clearly wants nothing more than to be left alone. Still reeling from a painful betrayal by her best friend, all Holly wanted was peace and a chance to rediscover herself and decide what’s next. Instead, she finds herself in the company of a man whose silence speaks louder than words and whose heart needs healing as much as her own. What begins as forced proximity slowly blooms into something tender and profound. Holly, with her warmth and resilience, fills Chris’s lonely cabin with laughter, light, and a spark of hope he thought he’d lost forever. She doesn’t try to fix him; she simply sees him, the man beneath the scars, the strength behind the pain. Their connection isn’t a whirlwind of instant attraction, but a gentle, slow-burning romance built on trust, small kindnesses, and quiet moments — a shared meal, a soft smile, a conversation by the fire. It’s love that grows like dawn breaking over snow-covered peaks, steady, golden, and breathtaking. This is more than a holiday romance; it’s a story of redemption and rediscovery, of learning that even the most guarded heart can find its way home again. With its blend of emotional depth, tenderness, and the healing power of love, this story is as warm and comforting as a glowing hearth on a winter’s night. What more could you ask for at Christmas?. "You don't need to be better. You're already enough, exactly as you are."~Holly😍
This was a fast moving short Christmas romance. It starts very quickly and Ms McRae spun a world with characters dealing with emotional struggles. Christopher Walker, 34, escaped to Montana, locking himself away in his inherited cabin (from his Grandfather) trying to make what happened in his service as an Army Ranger, not destroy him completely. This man will break your heart. His pain, anger, his need to find peace within himself has left him questioning his own worth as a person.🥹 Chris' scars on the outside do not compare to the ones he carries on the inside. He struggles with PTSD and guilt. He prefers to be alone, but Chris was hurting badly. He didn't want anyone around him. It was better that way. Or was it?
Holly Bennett, 28, came to Montana to rent a cabin to escape her worries and stresses. She too has been left with betrayals and the loss of her business by shady dealings from a person she trusted. And in the middle of a snow storm, she gets into an accident. Chris comes to the rescue. Her cabin paradise was a scam. What can she do? Chris has an idea. And as the raging blizzard traps them in very close proximity, Holly shows Chris that he was a man worth loving, touching, and holding. That he was beautiful.🥰😘 The only way to heal was to not ignore or bury the hurt, but to push through it with support and letting someone see all of you. Holly gave Chris his hope back, his sense of well-being and worth. It won't be easy. But with the right person and an open heart, it's a start of new possibilities.🤗🤗💋
I like the story and characters. That it was Christmas.🎄 Imo this was more about Chris' journey. He was just as supportive and giving to Holly as well. Well written. Sweet. Happy reading.*•>§<•*❄️🩵❄️🩵☃️

Christmas with the Wounded Mountain Man is a heartfelt novella that’s part of the Mountain Man Christmas series, yet it wonderfully continues to feature familiar faces from the Grizzly Ridge world. I love how the author blends both worlds seamlessly, giving readers a sense of connection and continuity.
Chris, a former military man, carries the heavy weight of guilt from a tragic event during his service. Seeking solitude, he retreats to the mountains to live in isolation. Holly, an event planner, is escaping her own heartbreak when fate—and an unexpected accident—brings the two together. What follows is a beautiful story of romance, redemption, and emotional healing that perfectly captures the spirit of Christmas.
This novella truly warmed my heart. It’s tender, uplifting, and filled with genuine emotion. And don’t forget to read the adorable bonus epilogue—it’s the perfect finishing touch to an already lovely story.

CHRISTMAS WITH THE WOUNDED MOUNTAIN MAN is part of the multi-authored Mountain Man Christmas series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, opposites-attract, grumpy-sunshine, forced-proximity, curvy girl gets her mountain man Christmas romance. Holly is a city girl who is a sassy ray of Christmas sunshine. She has rented a cabin in the mountains for Christmas when she gets in an accident. Chris is a hunky, grumpy, somewhat grinchy ex-military man who suffers from PTSD. He moved to the mountains 3 years ago to live alone. He hears Holly crash and goes to help her. When he realizes she was scammed renting a non-existent cabin, he takes her to his cabin to ride out the storm. As they spend time together, things get hot and S-T-E-A-M-Y, but Chris is worried he is too damaged for her. Can she show him that he is worthy of love? These two had great chemistry. They were both facing challenges but found love and support together. The ending was so happy. I loved it.
This was such a refreshing read! Both main characters are a little older and more experienced in life, each carrying their own past trauma — and watching them begin to heal together was genuinely touching. I especially appreciated that there isn’t an age gap here; both characters are mature, grounded, and act like adults who’ve lived and learned.
While the plot itself isn’t particularly unique, the strength of this story lies in its characters. Their emotional depth, quirks, and realistic chemistry make this book stand out. It’s heartfelt, cozy, and perfect for anyone who wants a Christmas romance that feels authentic and mature rather than sugary or rushed. A lovely winter read! 🎄❤️.

A heartfelt, cozy romance with all the holiday feels!!!
This story swept me right into the snowy mountains and straight into Chris and Holly’s world. Chris is rugged, guarded, and carrying more than his share of pain, while Holly is pure warmth and Christmas cheer — and watching her slowly melt his walls was so satisfying. Their chemistry feels instant but believable, and the emotional journey is just as strong as the romance. Snowed-in tension, healing, and a man rediscovering hope with the help of a woman who refuses to give up on him — this had everything I love in a holiday mountain-man story. Curl up with a blanket, a cup of something warm, and enjoy every page.

My heart breaks for Chris when we first meet him, he's a broken man hiding in the mountains, avoiding life and punishing himself for his perceived guilt. Then Holly crashes into his life and, despite her own difficulties, she doesn't let him hide anymore. She challenges him in many ways, but she also breaks through his walls in a way nobody else has managed and we slowly see a new Chris emerge. He lowers his defenses and we see the sweet, funny, protective, thoughtful and sexy man emerge from the shell he had become. They heal each other in a way neither expected but both hold close and nurture. This is a lovely read on Kindle Unlimited.
This was a heartfelt story of second chances, a damaged soul, and fresh starts. Chris is an ex military who is chosing a life of solitude after an accident scarred him at war, that is until he finds Holly on the road, she is lost and just had a car accident. He rescues her, and in turn she rescues him from loneliness.
Holly is also trying to restart her life, and when CHris offers his place until the storm dies down, she sees in him the man that is damaged but full of life to live. TOgether they make everything work. She is his balm, he is her rock.
This is a sweet story with passionate encounters and all the moments that will keep you smiling and swooning at once.

I enjoyed this fast paced insta-attraction romance. Chris is a scarred ex-Ranger who chose the quiet of the mountains to try and cope with his experiences. Holly literally crashes into his life while attempting to escape what her existence has turned into. These two broken people make quite the pairing. Pulling at the heartstrings, this story points out the difficulties veterans face returning to civilization. It was interesting to read how Holly chipped away at the barricades he put between them (as a means of protecting them both). It was ultimately an endearing tale that had a definate kick of spice.😉.

Holly is on her way to a vacation cabin but she ends up wrecking her car and thankfully Chris is there to save her; she has no choice but to stay in his cabin for a while because there is a snowstorm. Slowly she breaks down his walls, but she herself is not perfect and is struggling, but they find perfection in their imperfection.
This was a short but well written and very very sweet story. I loved how they came together and their HEA and bonus scenes. Awwwww!

He has been hiding out from everyone including his family since he retired from the Army. He just doesn't know where he fits and the only place he feels comfortable is in the mountains alone. Until she shows up. She was looking to have a mountain christmas, but never expected to find a reluctant mountain man. She can see everything in him, but she doesn't know if she will be able to break through his defenses to let him give them a chance. This is a sweet redemption story, two people who accidentally find the right one when they need it most. This is sweet and a little spicy as they find their happily ever after. A perfect quick afternoon read.

In this emotional, flurry story, there are two rescues: one from being stranded in a blizzard, and the other, more complicated, involving guilt, nightmares, fears, and conviction. But bright Holly, with her own problems, comes through Chris by seeing good in him, convinced that he deserves happiness, giving him strength to be brave. Two broken people, in their own way, find comfort, light this Christmas, with more to follow. Their happiness gives me happy vibes.

I felt I could relate to the story, my husband being ex-military. We have similar issues we work through on a daily basis, but I refuse to let him shut himself off from the world. When Holly literally crashes into Chris’ quiet life in the mountains running from her failed life in Denver, she was only planning a week in the mountains to figure out what to do next. I loved how the book started in Chris' POV, normally this type of book–at least most of what I’ve read–start in the woman’s POV.

"She thinks I'm the one who made sacrifices, but she's wrong. Everything I gave up was worth losing. Everything I gained is worth fighting for."
I love this book so much! The characters are amazing. I just wish the book was longer.
"Whatever you're planning, whatever you're worried about, the answer is yes." "You don't know what the question is." "I don't need to know. With you, the answer is always yes."
I DEFENITELY recommend this book!

I liked how Holly and Chris met, that Holly saw him and made sure he knew that. In each other they found what they needed. This is a story about healing, connections, pushing through the fears and memories, learning to live with the scars of your past, choosing each other every day, love, and taking a chance on a little Christmas miracle.
