Following the deadly events of Afghanistan, Rex Dalton and his companion, the military dog, Digger, escape from Afghanistan and make their way into India. Rex knew that to stay alive he has to remain 'dead'.
Rex tries to put the past behind him and start a new life, no more secret missions, no more killing, no more violence. He and Digger are going to travel the world, visit historical places, and learn about other cultures. Life becomes an extended holiday, they have nowhere to call home and they're enjoying every moment of it.
Rex and Digger are on their way to Kapal Mochan, India, where Rex intends to dip his hand into a sacred spring, a symbolic act of cleansing the soul and in his case to finally put his violent past behind him. When they pass by a public park, Digger starts shifting around in the front passenger seat and looking at Rex as if to say, "So, when are you going to stop and give a dog a chance to go to the toilet?"
It is the ideal place to let Digger out and he pulls off the road. While Rex is unpacking their lunch, he becomes aware of the presence of a strange old man who seems to have appeared out of thin air. After a few moments of awkwardness, the two of them start talking, and before long Rex and Digger have an invitation to dinner with the old man and his wife.
During dinner, Rex finds out that the couple's youngest daughter has gone missing and decides to help them find her. A decision which puts him and Digger on a perilous journey.
As Rex follows the leads to the missing girl, the closer he gets the more dangerous it becomes. Between a man in prison, an unscrupulous moneylender in Mumbai, an illicit arms dealer in Saudi Arabia, and their cronies the two of them get into more danger than they've ever been. It turns out that the daughter of his new-found friends is not the only one in need of help and it starts to look as if he is not going to be able to help anyone.
UNCHAINED is a full-length novel, a nail-biting thriller by best-selling author JC Ryan. It is the third book in the electrifying new Rex Dalton series.
Awesome adventure as Rex Dalton and his new companion,Digger the military dog, try to just be....To travel, relax and enjoy life away from violence and evil! But Rex still has his own moral code, so when he meets an elderly couple and becomes friendly, he learns of a terrible injustice that has taken their beautiful daughter away from them. They are starting to fear the worst as have not heard from her in weeks, and as Rex hears the whole story, he starts to plan a mission for himself.. Fast-paced, intense with wonderful characters and exciting scenes all over the country, this book will keep your heart pumping and the pages turning as you become part of the story. A thoroughly enjoyable read that makes you think of your own life, your decisions and actions taken that have touched your life or that of someone else! Definitely 5 STAR, I loved this book and am looking forward to the next!!
The continuing story of a man and a dog. If you’ve read any of the other books you’ll know it’s a bit more than that. Rex is ex military as is his dog Digger. Following a betrayal in his previous employment, all his comrades were killed in action, including Digger’s trainer. Hiding out to find out who had betrayed them Rex and Digger come across a family who need his specialist skills to find their daughter who has been sold into slavery. A good story, much better than the previous one in the series.
The story about Rex🐺🔪🔫 in India and the kidnapped young woman is interesting and intense, but I don't know why the attack 🐕dog was put into the book. Other than that it's a good read. Some of the situations seem implausible. Rex is just a slippery spy devil, I guess. He's the kind of guy who can talk himself into and out of any bad situation!
ARC Received from Hidden 💎Gems I also got the book with KU.
Rex Dalton series: Unchained #3 - As good as all the other books were, this one tops them. Mr. Ryan has become one of my favorite (new) authors in my all time favorite genre. This is another well written and fast paced adventure. The intrigue and planning to make all come together is great. Everything is realistic and there's no "Hollywood poof" to make things work; the storylines have been planned and well thought out. The characters are developed as much as their roles need them to be. The main characters, of course, continue to grow in their roles as the storylines continue. The vivid and clear descriptions do not leave the reader confused or hanging, but involved with the happenings. The travels are interesting in themselves. Rex and Digger are getting better with their relationship; and Rex is gathering a family of friends to end his days alone. Both kept growing as the pages flew by. I contacted the author to review his books and received this one through AXP. 5*
No Doubt - I read The Fulcrum (#1) before I read this short story. I enjoyed the writing style of the beginning chapters and the presentation of the island's natives and tourists. Quite comical until the murder, then the style changed similar to The Fulcrum. There's a bit of maturity in the character and dialog missing in this short, but it's still an interesting and entertaining story. This is introduction to Rex and Digger's histories, as well as bits and bobs about Rex's purpose for being on the island. The Fulcrum actually did a great job with Rex and Digger, which makes this short unnecessary, but still a good read. 4*
The Fulcrum #1 - My first read by this author and I couldn't put the book down! Mesmerized by the writing style, the vivid descriptions and the storylines, I read without stopping. Fast paced, action packed and interesting on several facets. Rex is a good example of what many Americans used to be, the masses who made this country great. Now after the decades of the Dark State (read chapter 15 for clarification) at work molding the brainwashed and dumb downed younger American generations with Mickey Dees and smartphones, our future and security is at stake. This is not a political agenda on part of the author, but part of the description of what we're facing; the reasons Rex became driven. The truth of what we're actually facing with cartels, terrorists and the havoc and destruction caused by the corruption and ineptness of our government's screaming chimps. Oh, sorry, our politicians.
I thought our Founding Fathers voted English (by one vote over German) as our Country's language? A point that caused me concern was his blacking out and thinking he was rescuing his sister. Not sure he would have been allowed to continue, but I'm not in that world and maybe he has special talents that were in dire need. As for mental testing, as determined as he was, he probably had the ability to pass them. Of course there's clarification later concerning those tests. While the ending was not a cliffhanger, the job was accomplished, plus; the ending gives the opening to the next book of the series. Ludlum is my favorite author, but I've found another one that I look forward to reading more of his work. The only editing needed was Internet, somehow everyone thinks this proper noun and place is lower case. I found this book on authorsxp.com. 5*
The Power of Three #2 - I absolutely enjoy this author's books. If you're Ludlum and company fan, you will like Ryan, too. If you haven't read The Fulcrum, the first book, it isn't necessary since this book gives background from the first. But I recommend reading it anyway; it is a good foundation for the series. Well written, fast paced with intriguing and suspense filled storylines.
The characters range from good to despicable, with many characters from the previous book. The emotions run the gamut. The terrible truth about America's governing leaders will dishearten many, but there's still hope the Dark State won't win completely. After all, not all Americans want donuts and circuses; the proof of that lies with the current elected president, instead of the increased circus clowns being elected.
The relationship between Rex and Trigger develop, but at a great cost to both. Part of the cost brings Rex to make decisions about their future and leaves possibilities of multiple paths to be taken in their journeys. While not a cliffhanger, the story is complete, but the series does continue. There's an overview, which I appreciate knowing what a story is about before I read nowadays. I contacted the author to review his books and found this book on authorsxp.com. Minor editing needed. 5*
Sideswiped #4 - I absolute enjoy this series and this book fits in like a charm. Fast paced and intriguing, this interesting addition keeps the reader immersed in the story until the last page. Again, we met good and interesting characters and glimpses into another culture. The characters run the gamut from braggart fool to criminal mercenary to doctors and more. The vivid descriptions place the reader in the mix and flow. There's maybe a touch of romance, maybe not, but ask Digger his opinion about that. The emotions don't run rampant as they did in Unchained, but there's enough to make the story work. I contacted the author to review his books. 4* Rex Dalton end.

This is book three in the Rex Dalton Thriller series and follows on from the deadly events that killed his friends and colleagues in Afghanistan. Rex has to stay dead in order to survive and find out who was responsible for betraying his team He and Digger make their way to India, having obtained a new set of fake papers, as he can no longer use those provided from his employment with CRC, the secret black ops unit. He can now start over, take all the time he wants to catch the guilty parties when they won’t expect him, and finally explore the world about him.
While speaking to a yogi on taking a break before going to visit a historic site, he gets talking to another man about Digger and is invited to dinner. He is reluctant to take up the offer as he knows the locals are quite poor, but is persuaded he will insult the man if he does not accept. The man’s wife prepares and serves food to her husband and Rex and he gets to find out more about the history nearby and a little about the man’s family. The man’s family come round to see Digger perform some skills and when saying good night, notices one of their family photos shows a young woman, he didn’t meet earlier.
When he asks about the young woman, he finds out it is their daughter, but she has gone missing and they haven’t heard from her for some of the debt to her new owner or sold to someone with more illegal ideas. Rex says he will try and find her, but this sends him off on another perilous adventure. More young women are in danger and need freeing from the place they have been taken to and being held mostly against their will. The trail leads Rex to Saudi Arabia and a member of the royal family. Rex’s violent past is not something that can be ignored in this new situation he finds himself in. But now it is his choice what action he takes and how much danger he puts himself into.
Another exciting thriller with Rex and his new addition Digger the dog. This series is just beginning to get more involved. Rex and Digger are learning how to work and live with each other. For Rex this has been terrifying as he was badly injured in a dog attack as a young child and nearly died! We get to learn a bit more about rex and his career so far and the initial reason he signed up for the Marines. Why he left everyone he knew and left behind all his belongings. There are no doubt going to be many more adventures with Rex and Digger, travelling the globe and getting into scrapes as they stop and assist those who cannot fight for themselves. I look forward to more of the same. I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
This is a stand-alone book. You don't need to read the prior books to enjoy it.
Left for dead after a bomb attack in Afghanistan, Rex Dalton and his dog Digger escape to India. On his way to Kapal Mochan, Rex and Digger stop at a park where an old man, Gyan, invites him to dinner at his home in Bilaspur. During dinner, Rex finds out that the couple's youngest daughter, Rehka, has gone missing, probably sold to a man to pay her debts. Rex decides to help them find her. A decision that puts him and Digger on a perilous journey.
As Rex follows the lead to the missing girl, the closer he gets the more dangerous it becomes. Between a man in prison, an unscrupulous moneylender in Mumbai, an illicit arms dealer in Saudi Arabia (part of the Royal Family), and their cronies the two of them get into more danger than they've ever been. It turns out that the daughter of his newfound friends is not the only one in need of help and it starts to look as if he is not going to be able to help anyone.
Meanwhile, John Brandt - CEO of the paramilitary organization Crisis Response Consultancy (CRC) and Rex's old boss - sends two of his agents, Josh Farley and Marissa Bissett to try and find Rex's whereabouts and whether he survived the bomb attack.
Narrated from the third person point of view, this is a quick, fast-paced thriller that reads easily in a few hours. the plot may be imperfect, the truth stretched a bit, but it was enjoyable. I would recommend it.
5 stars for J. C. Ryan's Unchained, 3rd book in the Rex Dalton Thriller series. I love reading about Rex Dalton's exploits, but my favorite character has to be Digger, his military trained super intelligent dog. The two set off to Saudi Arabia to liberate a beautiful East Indian girl who was sold to a Prince to become part of his harem of pleasure wives. The odds are against him from the start. Before our heroes have been in Saudi Arabia for even an hour, Rex is arrested for breaking a law which could lead to his beheading. He tells Digger to run and hide and is hauled off to jail, not knowing how and if he will ever be released and then be able to find Digger. Digger tries to follow Rex in the police car taking him to jail, but soon loses sight of the car. What's he to do in a country which had outlawed dogs as pets. How would he find food and water in the city? How could he find Rex and help him escape? Terrific series to read. I was given a copy of this book and am voluntarily posting an honest review.
JC Ryan continues with his Rex Dalton thrillers. After losing his friends in an ambush Rex takes four legged Digger with him on the road to disappear and regroup. However, it would seem just disappearing and leading the quiet life isn’t in the cards. Before he knows it, Rex and Digger are in the middle of more international intrigue. Rex finds his morals won’t allow him to ignore yet another injustice; Rex and Digger take on a new mission, without any back up. Come along on this journey as the two learn to work together. Another great read by JC Ryan. As an ARC reader I received this book for a fair and honest review. In all honesty, it is a fantastic story. Although this is the 3rd book in the series, you won’t be disappointed or be lost. A well written story that you will have a hard time putting down.
No book series since the original The Executioner Series by Don Pendleton has any thriller series captured and held my interests the way the Res Dalton series has. I discovered this awesome series when I received an Advanced Reader’s Copy of Book 4 in the 9 book series, Sideswiped., as with The Executioner Series, enough of the backstory is retold in each f the books so we can enjoy them all as standalone reads no matter what order you read them in. Like The Executioner books, this series will remain in my library for many years to come and will be read over and over again. Unlike my Executioner books, their pages won’t fall out because I have all the volumes in eBook format. Before I go any further, I have to say that this volume isn’t easy for me to review because I’m tempted to tell more of the story than I should and turn it into a spoiler report.
Unchained tells the story of how Rex and his canine sidekick Digger meet and befriends an elderly couple while in India. On the last evening that they would share a meal together, Rex discovers that their oldest daughter was being held captive as a sex slave by an Arab prince. Rex is enraged and swears an oath to her mother that he would find her, rescue her, and return with her. When failure seems just around every corner, against all odds, he and Digger keep their promise and return her to her parents. How they pull the rescue off and what happens after the rescue will blow you away. If you’re a true adrenaline junky like me, this book is a must read...well, the whole series is a must read.
You Gotta Respect And Love Rex And Digger's Adventures
Rex knows grief and loss. He also knows injustice and the pain that people can inflict on others is wrong under any circumstances. So when he learns that he can rescue a young woman who has been indentured he cannot walk away. But his rescue operation develops a few hiccups that put him in danger, along with the intended victims of said servitude. While the plans get revised the twists the reader experiences are just wonderful to help the reader keep reading and anticipating what could possibly happen next. I was spellbound and reading and turning pages so quickly I could barely turn the pages fast enough. I've read just about all of the Rex Dalton series books and I cannot believe I missed this one!
Another fast moving Rex Dalton adventure, the 3rd in the series and it just keeps getting better! It's not often a book leaves me breathless but this one has. It's non stop action from the off, as Rex goes after more bad guys with the help of Digger, the dog he inherited in the last book after the death of his friend and Digger's former owner. I also enjoyed the insights into different lifestyles and cultures as Rex and Digger travelled on their adventure. This is a real edge of your seat story, and like the previous books left me desperate for the next in the series. This was an ARC from the author for an honest review and I can honestly say it's a fabulous read.
This was the third book in a 3-book box set. (It was really just one long continuous story, cut into three pieces for commercial packaging purposes.) Rex and his new dog Digger are learning how to work together. Of course, they each have superior, almost superhuman, skills in a wide range of areas. Rex hears about a young woman who has been sold into captivity, and he promises her parents he will bring her back safely. Of course, after many hair-raising and life-threatening adventures, Rex Dalton saves the day! This was superficial and shallow, but still a lot of fun to read. After some time elapses, I will probably read more in the series.
J.C. Ryans Rex Dalton Series just gets better and better.
I will admit that the first book in this series I felt was a bit slow---but I fell in love with Rex and decided to give the second book a chance and I am glad that I did.
In this book Rex goes through more than one difficult time---
There is a nice twist in near the end of the book.
I had trouble putting this down when I had to do errands.
I just HAD to see what was going to happen and how Rex and others were going to get out of the different situations.
Unchained is the third book in the "A Rex Dalton Thriller" series and is my favourite in the series... so far.
This book brings the assumed-dead Rex and his new companion Digger on their way to a peaceful retreat in Kapal Mochan, India. The peace doesn't last long for them. This book is fast-paced and action-packed, with a kidnapped girl, an arms dealer, danger, and an influx of funds.
This is a great series for any fans of action thrillers. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.
The Rex Dalton series is full of action, drama, and adventure. Unchained had me hooked from the beginning and the story was well developed and written. Rex Dalton displays a sense of humanity while not being afraid to use violence where deemed appropriate. This is one book I had a hard time putting down and enjoyed throughout. I myself, having a service dog while being deployed overseas, made the book much more relatable and personal. For anyone interested in an action-packed thriller, you can't go wrong with JC Ryan's Rex Dalton series.
Talk about a page turner! This is an awesome read if you enjoy John Sandford, Tom Clancy and James Patterson.
The series is well written and the books are wonderful as standalone.
I love JC Ryan's as though his works aren't all 400 pages, they are well thought out and written with minimum proofreading issues.
Best of all, they are not lazily written. I'm only left with the question of, where do I get more? What's the one before this and is the new one available for purchase.
Digger, and his relationship with Rex, is as interesting as anything else in this series. Rex is awesome but the inclusion of his original phobia of and eventual connection to this military dog fills out the character and smoothes out the plot lines.
I’ll be interested to see what kind of trouble these two can dig up next. Whatever you do, it would be wise to keep your throat covered when the Digster’s around.
A great read from beginning to end! The main character has a keen sense of justice, and is willing to go to extremes to see that justice is done…even if that means breaking the law. That’s enough for me to keep me reading. I found myself cheering him on in his mission to rescue the world from a bad situation. The reason I could make for a 4 1/2 stars instead of 5 would be the ending. It just seemed to stop. It was geographically accurate...the best I could tell.
Rex and Digger, only survivors of their team, escaped to India and makes new friends and saves lives. I loved this book. Digger, a tree-climbing dog loves children, charms women, and rips out the throat of any threat. And Rex is an avenging force for freedom and justice. Its fast pace is breathtaking, descriptions so realistic you feels the dryness and grit of the barren land.
Rex and Digger make a great team. Rex is deathly afraid of dogs, but when his friend was killed on a mission, Rex fulfilled his promise to take Digger. In this book, they are getting to know each other, and doing quite well. I haven't read this series in order, so it was nice to "go back" and see the earlier relationship developing. Love the stories and the writing.
Writing reviews is not something I like to do but I sometimes feel the need to let the authors know someone is reading their books. I often wonder if there really are people like this. If so, I can only hope they are on the side of good and truth. Exciting read, unbelievable in some parts. Looking forward to further adventures of 'Red Dalton'
I love J C Ryan's writing, it grips me and this book is hard to put down.
Yes, I did really enjoy this book. That said, there were some aspects of poor research which detracted from that enjoyment. A resident of Afghanistan is an Afghan while an Afghanistan is their unit of currency. Also as many US writers do, they use the phrase "chaise lounge" which as easily discovered is in reality "chaise longue". The characters and plot though, more than justify my 5 star rating.
A question first. Why do we like these adventure books with men such as Rex? Very enjoyable reading. Didn't want to put it down. Dogs are smarter than people a lot of times and is so in this story. Rex has a need to help people and has no qualms to killing drug lords, dealers and just all around illegal people. And sets out from India to save a young women from a Harem. Lots of action. His big black dog is always amazing him with his ability to follow orders.
Another winner but filled with both justice and hope...
As Rex continues to stay under the radar of governments and clandestine operations, he cannot turn his back on injustices even if they are on a much smaller scale than his former missions. Yet, even small removals of evil spread ripples into larger ponds, and Rex along with his best friend, Digger, continue onward... hidden and yet not hidden....
This was an intriguing story where Rex and his new companion attempt a new life of leisure, but instead get caught up in a new friends' devastating story of his daughter's disappearance. When Rex and Digger decide to try and find the missing young woman, they both get way more than either bargained for. It's a terrific story that you won't want to miss. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.
The Rex Dalton character continues to develop and become a bit more human in this book. It's fun to see his relationship with Digger grow. There are still a lot of loose ends to be wrapped up, not as much of this book was devoted to Rex finding out who betrayed him and seeking revenge as I was anticipating, although this book does have an enjoyable story line.
This is the such an awesome series with awesome characters and a great dog named Digger (same name as my dog ha - because she will dig herself out of any fence). I have read the first book but missed the second, which can NOT be because this is such a great read. I can not put it down.
I received this book from AuthorXP elite and am voluntarily providing an honest review.
I received this ARC for an honest review. I thought the book was okay, although I might have enjoyed it more if I had read the previous books in the series. The relationship of Rex and his dog companion, Digger was explored and portrayed very well, although at times I thought the pace was somewhat daunting. But overall, although not being my favorite genre, it was a good read.
Unchained is a book, that you won't put down, until the very end!! Rex and Digger are on a mission, to find a couple's daughter. This leads them, to find that more women than this young woman are missing. Rex and Digger at their best, as the hunt gets crazier and more dangerous. A MUST READ!!
