But when John’s agent calls with a life-changing offer, Gwen has to decide how far she’s willing to go for her perfect match. Will their first Noël also be their last?
Kat Latham writes sexy contemporary romance, including the London Legends rugby series. She’s a California girl who moved to Europe the day after graduating from UCLA, ditching her tank tops for raincoats. She spent several years teaching English in Prague followed by several more working for a humanitarian organization in London. She and her British husband now live in a small town in the rural Netherlands surrounded by miles and miles of green pasture, canals and Shetland ponies. Kat’s slowly adjusting to life in a place where bicycles and cows seem to outnumber people.
With degrees in English lit and human rights, she loves stories that reflect the humor and emotion of real life. Kat’s other career involves writing and editing for charities, and she’s had the privilege of traveling to Kenya, Ethiopia and India to write about the heroic people helping their communities survive disasters.

I grabbed this as a Kindle freebie and I haven't read the previous books in this series -- oh, and this is my first Kat Latham! I thought as a novella, this was pretty well going as stand-alone, because I had no problem going into it. It was cute at some parts, but I had a huge moment of disbelief of .
I appreciated some twists in the relationship plot that I didn't see coming, i.e. but I also thought John being a little unsympathetic (and wasn't that selfish of him, ) near the end, even if it didn't turn out as predictable as I thought it would.
All in all, it was a nice novella, but I am not sure that I'm curious enough to read the other novels. I just don't feel it as a series that I need to read.
"You got her address off the internet and started sending her shit, and you're surprised she hasn't called you? Mate, count yourself lucky she hasn't called the cops."
3.5 stars rounded up because hot rugby players are hot. Exhibit A:
Unwrapping Her Perfect Match is a humorous and charming holiday tale.
Insecure characters aren’t always a reader pleaser, but I often find them more relatable, more interesting, more likable. Gwen is a dedicated nurse, a loving sister and daughter, smart and witty and kind. She is also insecure – about her height, her weight, her appeal to men, her general usefulness outside her role as a caretaker. It was refreshing to read about a character who felt so real, who was carrying pain, who wasn’t always sure of her next step.
Gwen and John fall very quickly, but Latham deftly avoids the perils of insta-love. They behave maturely and sanely (save for a few insane moments) and come to realize how well they fit together, how right they are for one another. John, a giant off and on the pitch, is both gruff and mischievous, and I found his earnestness adorable. Although well-intentioned, he is also quite clueless. He stumbles. Painfully. I am NOT a reader who cries easily, but tears sprung to my eyes during some of the missteps. Because once again, they felt so real.
John's heart was in the right place, and it found its perfect match in Gwen’s. While I would have preferred a bit more showing than telling in the epilogue, it too was a perfect match.
Unwrapping her Perfect Match by Kat Latham is a 2014 publication.
This Christmas themed novella is book 3.5 in the London Legends series, but can be read as a stand alone. Some of you who have been reading this series will remember Gwen from the story which featured her sister, Tess.
This holiday story begins with a charity auction and with Gwen doing her sister a favor by bidding on Liam, her sister's boyfriend. But, things go awry when Gwen strikes up a conversation with John, one of Liam's Rugby teammates. An instant connection occurs and pretty soon Gwen has gone rogue and buys John instead of Liam.
Gwen went through a horrible ordeal in her youth which has kept her from being able to maintain a long term stable relationship. Despite the chemistry between them, it looks a though John will go the way of others before him. But, an injury during a game has John depending on Gwen to help him with his young daughter while she is visiting for the holidays. So, it looks like Gwen and John will be spending the holidays together. Can they somehow overcome the many obstacles that threaten to kill the relationship before it gets started? John was so funny, and I admired his desire to do what was best for his daughter and try to make Gwen happy too. What made John so great was his humanity. He was not the suave, smooth talker type for sure. He was always saying or doing something that came out sounding bad or looking bad. Gwen of course was a character I felt so badly for. She was a little defensive, but it was understandable. She did the right thing I think by slowing things down and getting herself together, thinking things through and being true to herself. John and Gwen were perfect for each other in so many ways and I loved reading their story.
This is a charming contemporary romance with lots of humor and a few moments of angst, but overall a wonderful happy ever story.
This is a lovely holiday romance. The hero is a bit bumbling but in the end wonderful The surprise of his daughter and the language barrier between them makes this a moving story.
I love that the romance HEA isn't rushed. She doesn't drop everything for him. He makes great choices for his whole family.
A cute and touching holiday novella, Unwrapping Her Perfect Match, makes you want to drag out the Christmas decorations and get into the spirit of the holidays.
Rugby player, John, and nurse, Gwen, had a rocky start. After a tragic accident, John ends up in Gwen’s hospital in need of home care over the holidays. Gwen reluctantly decides to help him out…but soon she is swept up by his charm and his French daughter who is visiting for Christmas.
Delightful, sweet and endearing but still having plenty of steam, Unwrapping Her Perfect Match is a great book to add to your Christmas reading list.
I received this copy of Unwrapping Her Perfect Match from Kat Latham in exchange for a honest review.
I've been holding out on reading this for months because I have Christmas read OCD, but I literally couldn't wait any longer and I'm so glad I didn't because Unwrapping Her Perfect Match left me with a happy happy heart.
You don't need to have read the full-length novels in the London Legends series to appreciate John and Gwen's story, but if you have it does bring that extra meaning as you will already know these characters as you will others who make a fleeting appearance. Kat Latham has a gift of balancing perfect romantic escapism with realism and John and Gwen brought it in spades. It was no tall order to match up to the couples in this series, but they did it. All 6'9" and 6'1" of them respectively and I adored them from the very start.
"This man gave her a brief taste of what it must be like to be normal. Dainty, petite and feminine."
With a journey that is cute, charming, funny, sexy and completely heartwarming, this couple brought every element I could have wished for. Novellas have a tendency to feel rushed or often lack something, but this was paced perfectly and didn't leave me feeling I needed more from them.
I was a little late to the party in discovering Kat Latham, but better late than never, as this year she has rapidly become an author whose books I won't miss and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Whether you're seeking a festive read, a fun, sexy romance or both, this story is the little gift you must treat yourself to.
This sweet and sexy holiday novella is the story of Gwen and John. Bidding on rugby player John at a charity auction wasn't in the plans but finding a man who makes her 6'1" height seem delicate is something Gwen won't pass up. But just when things are going along well, life intervenes and choices must be made - will they end up with their happy ever after?
This was quite a fun and entertaining read. Even if you aren't familiar with the London Legends series, there is enough of the back story presented for this to be read as a standalone. Gwen is a strong tough woman with a sensitive side and John pushes all the right buttons for her. John is sexy and sweet and together the sparks fly, the sexual attraction between them easily giving way to some well written love scenes. Their relationship is a bit of an on again/ off again affair with misunderstandings and hesitation on both sides as they come to grips with the intensity of their sudden feelings for each other. It's a sweet Christmas story and will delight fans of the author and new readers alike. 4 stars.
Note: a copy of this story was provided by the author for review.
It is hard not to feel like everyone is looking at you when you tower over everyone at 6 feet 7 inches, but now John was standing at the front of the auction and not a soul was bidding on him; how embarrassing. Then just before he left the dais in shame a voice calls out.
Gwen never thought she would meet someone who would make her feel normal, she always towered over everyone. Gwen and John seem to fit each other perfectly. I enjoyed the emotion they each shared and how they opened up to each other. Gwen helped John make Christmas special and it warmed my heart. The plot was a short Christmas holiday, but had an Epilogue that tied up loose ends. We get to check in on a few of the player we got to love in their full length books which I loved because I can’t get enough of these rugby players!
Unwrapping Her Perfect Match is a fantastic novella as part of the London Legends series, just go out and buy this novella - but read Tempting the Player first!
I purchased this novella for myself and this is my honest review.
Gwen and John fall head over heels for each other after he convinces her to bid on him in his team's fundraising auction, and when he suffers an accident and needs a nurse to help him recover and someone to help him become closer to his daughter, they began to think if they could one day be a family. Charming novella!!
This is a cutie! I read this after DNFing so many books after the first chapter, this is one that held my interest. The main leads are adorable as well as Agnes and Gwen's family. I love that both main leads are just really good people just always misjudged because of their size. That part when John was talking about how his size is the greatest asset in his professional life but also his greatest weakness with the other aspect of his life.

I thought way too much about concussion logistics the whole time. I couldn’t walk across a room on Day 2, let alone go to the Tower of London, move and decorate a Christmas tree, have vigorous sex, etc.

"Unwrapping Her Perfect Match: A London Legends Christmas Romance" by Kat Latham
My Thoughts....
This was a wonderfully short written Christmas Romance series of the London Legends #3.5. Be prepared to be entertained by some well developed and defined characters that face some real day to day life issues for being 'big and awkward.' I liked how this author gives the readers such an intriguing read with Gwen Chambers having insecure issues and John Sheldon...oh my being the alpha that he was. In time will these two be able to 'work for it and each other in this whirlwind romance?' I loved the relationship that John had with his daughter...and how with Gwen's helped with that situation and also their relationship that they had with each other. Yes, it will be some hot steamy sex added in the story and to get even more of the story you will just have to pick up the read to see how well this author presents this story to the readers. Would I recommend? YES!
I received this book for free. In return for an honest review. As a tall girl myself, I would love to feel dainty next to a man. So it was nice to see that Gwen who was 6 foot 1, found John her perfect match. Gwen is a nurse who goes to a fundraising auction, where you can bid on members of the London Legends rugby team. Gwen ends up bidding on John. After a misunderstanding the couple don't see each other for a while. Until John gets into an accident while playing Leicester Tigers. ( It was nice seeing Leicester in a book as that's where I live) Gwen is on duty when John is bought in. After a serious head injury. John can't be left alone at home. And to collocate matters his daughter is visiting for Christmas. So Gwen reluctantly offers to look after them both. Soon she is swept up with both father and daughter. All is going well until John finds out he has got his long wanted transfer to France . So he can be nearer to his daughter. This was a delightful novella. Set at my favourite time of the year.
Gwen wasn´t supposed to buy a rugby player to herself at the auction, but the gorgeous hunk of a man made it impossible not to. Now John is hers for a date. When past ghosts turn their first outing into Gwen running, things seem to be taking a turn for worse, but fate has another thing in mind. When John needs her help, Gwen steps up, and things quickly grow even hotter - but do they really have a future together when his career gets in the way? Quick read, contemporary romance, smutty fluff and christmas feelings in a great combo. Can´t wait to read more from this series! Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book in return for an honest review.
A short, sweet story. I especially love John and how he was such a tough guy playing his sport, but a big softie inside. He tried so hard to do things right, messing up unintentionally. Gwen had some serious insecurities, but she tried really hard not to let it hold her back. I loved how they were both tall and matched each other so well. Although, I did have a hard time believing (and picturing) John's height. He was a little too tall in my opinion:)
Nice christmas's story, funny and lovely. Shame that the male protagonists of this and last book not have catch my sympathy if not to the end, when they got their wit and understood how caveman and selfish and arrogant thei are been. However I always appreciate the writing and enjoy the reading.
Cute, but with some hard-to-believe bits...such as jumping into bed for vigorous sex right after suffering a serious concussion. Hee hee! Loved the French daughter and the xmas celebration.
Big and tall rugby player, John, is smitten when he sees Gwen at a charity auction where he and his teammates are being auctioned off. Gwen isn't used to men who don't make her feel like a giant, so she appreciates how big he is, so much so that she allows him to convince her to bid on and win him at the auction.
When John is injured and Gwen is the one to nurse him back to health, and bonds with John's young daughter at the same time, is it the start of something beautiful? Or will John's assumptions and Gwen's insecurities get in the way of what could be their happily ever after?
If you are in the mood for something adorable and sweet and spicy for the holidays, Unwrapping Her Perfect Match is the perfect little read for you.
I enjoyed this short and sexy Christmas book! I read it in one day and was engaged the whole time. I dropped a star because while I liked this, there are other books I've enjoyed more.
The thing that drew me most to this book is that the heroine, Gwen, is super tall. She's 6'1". I'm 5'11" myself and I'm very tired of tiny heroines. Especially when the tiny heroines end up with extra tall men (I'm looking at you The Hating Game). I'm also tired of heroines who are 5'7/8" being called tall. Thats average, not tall. Gwen is also a full figured woman, which is awesome.
John, the hero, is also ridiculously tall at 6'9". I know this is possible, but it's so rare that I probably pictured him closer to 6'4". I liked that he was into how tall and full she was. He didn't need a small, thin woman. They actually made him rather uncomfortable. Which makes so much more sense to me.
This book has the love at first sight, forced proximity and single dad tropes all in one. It might seem like a lot, but it worked!
There's two and a half detailed sexy scenes. They are explicit and very hot! There's many uses of the f-word and other curse words.
While I liked this book, I'm not sure if I liked it enough to read more books by Kat Latham. Maybe one day, but not anytime soon.
**My thanks to the author and Hidden Gems for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This was a cute novella where both characters are on the tall side and both a little conscious of the fact that height wise they are perfect for each other.
Gwen has been hurt in the past and it is now easy for her to be hurt with men, so generally she avoids them.
John is a rugby player and likes Gwen the moment that he sees her and manages to change her mind as to whom to bid on at the charity auction they are at. John is a little bumbling with his words and tries to say what he thinks, but sometimes it comes out wrong, especially with Gwen who is already man sensitive.
Gwen and John have big hearts and after having to look after John both find more things with each other that they like and grow close very fast in.
I really liked this novella and was pleased with the happy ending we get.
Unwrapping Her Perfect Match is part of Kat Latham’s London Legends series, and is about rugby player John Sheldon and nurse Gwen Chambers. They meet at a fundraising auction and an immediate attraction sparks.
Kat Latham does a lovely job unfurling their relationship, which works around the complications of a rugby injury, his daughter’s visit, some painful history, and well meaning family.
This was a quick read, not horrible. I liked the main characters. Gwen was a very amazing giving woman. She rescues John when his daughter comes to visit after an injury and helps him with her. They always say French is the language of love :) This book was cute and an easy read, not too deep of a plot for a short book, just enough of one to keep you entertained. :)
