Book #2 of 6 in the Love Inspired Suspense series Capitol K-9 Unit. Museum curator, Lana Gomez, is being terrorized by someone out to murder her. K-9 Unit officer, Adam Donovan, and his canine partner, Ace, are her protectors as they try to find out who wants her dead. Enjoyable story with lots of action. I loved Ace. The romance was sweet. The storyline of Adam and Lana’s romance, and the reveal of the person out to kill Lana are wrapped up in this book. However, there are still some storylines left unsolved at the end to be continued throughout the next books in the series.
Fast paced, action packed, full of suspense with plenty of twist and turns plus a wonderful Doberman named Ace bring the reader a fantastic read. A museum curator being framed for a robbery, a nephew to be adopted, a canine who excelled in protection and trusting the innocent. Come along with curator (Lana Gomez), Capitol K-9 Unit Officer (Adam Donovan) and Ace for an intriguing, inspirational story with a touch of romance.
The second in the Captiol K-9 Unit continuity series and I loved this as much as I did the first. No worries, though, Duty Bound Guardian reads well as a standalone and the author does a fantastic job of catching new readers up on the over arcing case details. There's one part of the suspense that isn't going to be solved until Book Six.
Once again, it's the dog that stole my heart. Ace, the Doberman is not only a stellar police partner, he also oozes plenty of canine empathy. In fact, I'm not sure if the title refers to the dog or the police officer. LOL. Okay, I guess Adam has his own charm as well which includes going into hyper-sensitive protective mode on more than one occasion. Be still my heart. Definite hero material even though he harbors suspicions about Lana. That's part Lana's 'fault' in that she's learned to hide behind a mask of composure so she isn't easy to read. Thankfully, Adam is a quick study (especially with the promptings of Ace.) The simmering romance complicates a gnarly plot fraught with danger and deception. An all round 'ace' of a read. :-)
Great series and enjoyed getting to know Adam and Lana. A few interesting unexpected twists and turns to keep the story exciting. Read this one to the boys and they enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this story. It had suspense, action, romance and had a nice touch of religion. The story starts out with Lana working at the museum late one stormy night. The museum gets broken into, and Lana tried to fight the man that was attempting to steal a beautiful golden arrow. She gets knocked out. Later she wakes up in the hospital. She finds out the arrow is never taken, but her prints are the ones on it. Someone is working hard to set her up for the crime.
Officer Adam Donovan and his K-9 partner Ace was handed the case. He is put in charge of keeping Lana safe, and finding answers. He didn't know if he could trust her. She was claiming to be innocent. His partner on the other hand trusted her right away. I love having dogs in a book. It really added to the story. I loved the way every time Lana was upset, Ace was there asking to be petted, and offering comfort. Adam trusted his partners instincts. Dogs are seldom wrong about people.
Someone was after Lana, and it took both Adam, and Ace to keep her safe. The plot of the story had twist and turns, and was very interesting. Loved this book! It had it all!
These types of books are quick reads but fun too. This was a good book but I didn't realize it was the 2nd in the series. I'm going to read the first one now, which I'm sure will help make this one make more sense. :)
This was a quick suspenseful read. It definitely kept me reading to find out who was after Lana. I loved the look into a K-9 Unit. I thought that the author did a great job capturing the intensity with which these dogs and their partners work on their cases.
5/5 Love this story so much. To find out about who cause the death of her sister previously that was kind of link to the death of the congressman's son, Lara found out that she has a nephew and was ready to adopt him however things took a turn and she is framed for stealing the Golden Arrow which she didn't and also she is in danger. Adam and sweet Ace is in charge of protecting her, at first Adam seemed to believe that she is not involved in it but when he get to know her, he knew that she is innocent. She is afraid that she couldn't get custody for her nephew because of what had happened and feel that the jury will think that she is not capable. There is a twist of the case and the person that targeted her though is not surprising but still never think it would be him because there were suspects that I feel that is the culprit haha...(okay can't spoil too much you will have to read it to find out after all it is a investigation hehe...)
Seeing Ace so sweet to Lara makes my heart melt. A dog knows that she is not the culprit and also always there to protect her. And also Adam who will do anything to protect her and also encouraged her that she is worthy of being a mother of her nephew and was always there for her.
Can't wait to read the next story and find out who is the mastermind.
K-9 Officer Adam Donovan and his partner, Ace, meet museum curator Lana Gomez, who is the target of a theif--and a murderer.
What I liked - The characters, the suspense, the plot, and the writing were all enjoyable. I liked the realistic flourishes relating to the dog. There were few distractioning editing or continuity problems.
What I didn't like - The romance was too fast and too much for my taste, though I guess I shouldn't complain, given the Love Inspired imprint. In a few places, Adam demonstrated horrible crime scene management and interviewing technique, leading me to think "now THAT is why he was really a FORMER fed." A few places in the plot were just a bit too implausible for me. Finally, the whole "transfer to the Colorado Springs Police Department" business was disappointing because I've been around CSPD enough to know that they're an unusual department--they don't have "transfers" like some departments would; instead, "laterals" have to go through the Academy just like any other rookie.
Recommended if you love dogs, kids, suspense, and romance. Less-recommended if you are a stickler for details or if you have extremely conservative standards for Christian romance.
This book had more romance than anything else. It was repetitive and boring at times to the point I had thought about not finishing the series. That was when I read some reviews and decided to keep on going.
Adam continually saying he couldn’t fall for Lena because he was moving to Colorado got really old. We all knew he wouldn’t be moving. And Lena saying she can’t fall in love. Why do authors always do this? It is so boring and adds nothing to the story.
Adam drives Lana to the safe house to see Juan. Really? It is longer a safe house since a person outside of law enforcement knows where it is.
Adam also tells Lana information regarding the investigation which should never happen. Talking about the blue mitten?
As for the person who stole the art item and tried to kill Lana on more than one occasion. I can’t believe that law enforcement didn’t figure that out. He was my first suspect. Why do authors make law enforcement look stupid?
To top it all off. Very little is mentioned regarding the crimes committed in book one and no one has a clue. It would be nice to see some type of progress made.
With all that said, I will continue the series for now. I’m actually looking for new authors to read so this will give me a taste of several.
This series of books are fast paced. Each book deals with a different member of the K-9 unit. There is one underlying story so far in the series. In this one there is a breakin at a museum and the curator Lana Gomez is being framed for the theft. Can K-9 officer Adam Donovan figure out whether she is guilty and keep her safe? Someone is trying to kill her. Will they finally catch the person behind these acts? All of it is tied to the death of the Senator's son in the first book is the story thread running in the background - but how? Keep reading and see!
Here sister was murder, leaving Lana a nephew now to raise. Then a break in at the museum, priceless piece of art taken, how can the two be connected. The Sheriff believes she is hiding something. Her fingerprints are on a fake one, who wants to frame her. An ex husband, her boss, points a finger at her, now a bag in her office. Everything points to her, the question of why has them searching for clues. A good mystery, that keeps you reading to the end.
I enjoyed this book. It is truly enjoyable to read about the brave men and women and their canine partners who work so hard to fight evil in our country i know this story is fictional but my town has a canine unit and I'm so proud of them. I love dogs well all animals.
The storyline continued well. Im always really wary when the authors change in a series but this was a good continuation. I enjoyed the characters of Lana and Adam. She was brave and smart and not a helpless woman which was nice. Her automatically being dismissed as a subject was a little hard to swallow but still a well written book.
I enjoyed how both Lana and Adam have doubts based on their past experiences. The plot surrounding Lana deciding to get custody of her orphaned nephew was well-portrayed. I appreciated how Adam didn't want to change his plans to move, even as it became increasingly evident to everyone that he should. The end worked, even though it was a bit abrupt.
This is the second book in the series and I absolutely loved it. The relationship between the characters in the book was great and developed more naturally than many I've read. The dog a wonderful!
I am really enjoying the K-9 series books. This is the second book in the Capitol K-9 Unit series. The action is fast paced and the stories are strong. I loved Lana and Adam's story. They were introduced in the first book of the series, Protection Detail. Lana Gomez is a curator for the American History Museum in Washington D.C. She is being framed for the theft of an important artifact. Being framed could cause her to lose the custody hearing for her nephew, Juan, who was orphaned in Protection Detail. Adam Donovan and his K-9 partner Ace are given the job of being her body guard until the thief can be arrested and put in prison. They fall head over heels for each other. Read the stories in order for them to make sense: 1. Protection Detail--Shirlee McCoy 2. Duty Bound Guardian--Terri Reed 3. Trail of Evidence--Lynette Eason 4. Security Breach--Margaret Daley 5. Detecting Danger--Valerie Hansen 6. Proof of Innocence--Lenora Worth
As always a great story in this series with lots drama, wholesome romance, a wonderful dog, and an HEA ending. Who could want more? Me...MORE BOOKS in the series. On to the next one...woohoo!
I really enjoyed this book and the author kept you interested. I really like K9 books. The storyline extends to the next book to find out who the killer is. Enjoy
