Two of Tammy Johnson's biggest dreams in life were being a mother and becoming a Harlequin author. After raising four children and homeschooling them until high school, she was able to devote more time to pursuing her writing dream. Participation in Harlequin's Love Inspired Suspense pitch event - KillerVoices - gave her the chance for her dream to come true. On July 2, 2014, she received ‘the call’ and became a Love Inspired Suspense author. She is thrilled at the chance to bring a story of Faith, Love and Danger to readers. Strong and tenacious heroines are her favorite sorts of characters and she loves creating the perfect hero for them.

Tammy is a grown up preacher's kid and a small town girl. She lives in a rural Kansas community with several dogs, goats and chickens. Her children are grown and following their own dreams and she is excited about the grandparent years to come. When not busy with writing Tammy enjoys fishing, online gaming, watching clouds and chasing summer storms. A glass of sweet tea and a new story are never far away.

I enjoyed the royalty plot of this book. It felt like it went by fast with all the action that was in it. “Royal Rescue” also had more Spiritual Content than the majority of Love Inspired Suspense books I’ve read, which was nice! :)

The story was excellent! I read it in one day and loved every minute of it. Spoiler alert: There are revealing facts about the ending of the story in this review.

What I liked: Around every corner there is danger, and you feel it throughout the story. I was on the edge of my seat, expecting and dreading that something was about to happen. The characters have likable characteristics…..honor, integrity, loyalty, devotion, morals. They interact comfortably and genuinely.

What I didn’t like: The story ends somewhat abruptly. I would have liked to have seen more raw emotion when Ronin and his father saw each other for the first time after so many years apart, and the romantic conclusion between Ronin and Thea seemed a little rushed.

Overall, I give this book five stars, and it was worth every star. A clean story with a touch of romance, lots of suspense, and a hero who will protect a Princess with his very life are all ingredients for a wonderful story. This book has it all. I highly recommend this story to anyone loving a good, clean romance and suspense. Great job, Ms. Johnson!

Who doesn't love a princess in peril plot line? And when she's in continuous danger it just ups the ante, as far as I'm concerned. Enter Ronin, formerly of the Royal Guard, determined to protect the hapless princess from an increasing threat...oh, wait...scratch that hapless part. This princess is anything but. She's resourceful, assertive and capable and she'll do her own rescuing, thank you very much. Ronin has no idea how much trouble one princess-in-hiding can be...Trouble with a capital T. An engaging read that held me captive until the very last page.

I picked this up for a quick weekend read and loved it! It's a sweet romance about a girl who needs to be rescued and wants to rescue herself. Just my style. She's stubborn and single-minded, a lot like me. And I couldn't put it down. I think I finished it in a weekend!
I love the mix of realism and fantasy in this, it made me think of The Princess Diaries, only as a romance/suspense and not a coming of age.

I enjoyed Thea's self-sufficiency, which was an interesting twist for a princess. Ronin's mission to protect her (and clear his father's name) dovetailed nicely with his developing feelings for her. The pacing made sense since Thea's life was in almost constant danger. The subtlety of the final attack was intriguing and made for a great resolution.

A PRINCESS IN PERIL

Hidden away for more than fourteen years, Thea James was presumed dead by most—killed in the fire that burned the royal palace. But Ronin Parrish knows the truth…and so does the person who murdered Thea's father, the king.

Ronin takes his new duty as Thea's bodyguard seriously. After all, she's the only one who can clear his father of the king's murder. It doesn't matter that the princess's beauty and strength draw him to her. To a commoner like him, she can never be more than a mission. Now he's in a race to restore the princess to her rightful place on the throne before the unknown killer prematurely ends her reign.

ROYAL RESCUE is a typical Love Inspired Suspense. I enjoyed the read, but the whole thing was rather predictable on one hand (maybe since I know their formula), and on the other, a departure from reality. A princess for some random country and everyone royal, ex-royal, or connected to the royals (servants, security, guards) are all in the United States.

Ronin is angry, strong, and smart. Street savvy. Thea was a little harder to figure out. Strong, yes. Yet weak at the same time. Scared. Definitely. Regal. Yet—was she living in safe house before the drama started or free to come and go and do as she pleased? I wasn’t quite sure. The characters were both Christian and I didn't see any growth spiritually. Nor was there much of a faith message.

If you like romantic suspense, and particularly the Love Inspired suspenses, you will probably love ROYAL RESCUE. Princesses are popular and this fits right in.

4 stars. Available in paperback and ebook. 224 pages.

I decided to reread this book because of the prompts that we have going on for this year. There is always the risk when you reread a book of not liking it as much the second time. Or ruining the magic of the book. For this book, I would say that that is what happened to me. Not that this book wasn’t good, but it was just different. I think the last time I read Royal Rescue was like 5 years ago, maybe more.

This is a Christian book which I was more into a few years ago than I am now. I thought the Christian aspect was executed well, it wasn’t too overbearing. But since I haven’t read a book labeled Christian in a really long time, it just felt weird. I don’t know how to describe it.

I also thought that the plot was a little cringey. The overall idea of the book is great, I just think it is hard to execute well in such a short amount of pages (it’s a pocketbook with 217 pages). I just felt like everything was moving really quickly which then made things somewhat cringey between Thea and Ronin.

Overall, I’d say this was a good book, I’ve just outgrown it.

This is tough. There were great moments in this but the heroine is nonsensical. One minute she is saying she doesn't want anyone else to be in danger because of her so she makes a really dumb move by eluding her escort then she wants only HIM as her bodyguard because she trusts no one. A romance in three days? They barely spoke to each other! She is tough? No. Smart? No. She walks right into a trap! She is rushing to tell HIM something important she remembered, then it totally slips her mind. Really!
On the good side, the "inspiritational" element is manageable and not preachy. Some moments in this actually made me laugh. Some spots were missing pieces. Will I ever read this again... No. But I've read worse and was actually able to finish this without poking my eyes out. If you want a quick sappy read, go for it!

It's hard to believe that Royal Rescue is a debut book. It is very skillfully written, and it already has all features that I like in books on my auto-buy list. A clean, Christian romance. A danger-filled plot. Strong, smart characters. Unexpected twists that keep me turning pages. I was actually rooting for Ronin Parrish and Thea James to overcome danger and find love. I have to say, this is only the second royal story I've read, so while popular, the concept is rather new to me. But after I read the first page, I knew it was going to be a great story. All in all, Royal Rescue is a great debut by new Love Inspired Suspense author Tammy Johnson.

Royally Good Read

This is a pretty typical 'Princess & her body guard' story. It is well written and the plot takes a few interesting turns, but it lacked any real tension. There were scenes that should have been tense, but since the princess was never really worried for her safety, neither was I. Also, the Princess' worries over how she could serve her country as the reigning princess and still be just a simple housewife were never resolved.

I am a SUCKER for a princess story. A modern-day princess on the run from the people who killed her family? A handsome and daring royal guard determined to protect her AND clear his father's name? Yes, please! Royal Rescue gives us all that and more. A harrowing journey of trust and faith that you won't be able to put down until you've turned the last satisfying page!

I really liked this and finished in 3 days. Fast paced. Mystery. Danger.
Some suspense books I've read from love inspired have a need to have something spooky, or at least a cliffhanger, in every chapter, many times without moving the story along. I really appreciated this book just slowly building and the main character really only almost died twice.
Plus I love books about princesses. I guess I'm still a 7year old girl.
Bringing to mom for her to read!
