Totally different from what i've expected. I wanted an easy, nice lecture-it's not :) but i liked it a lot anyway. And yes, i agree-'she' of the cover instead of a beauty, is terrifying, like someone said before.
Let’s make it clear - this is not badly written, not at all. But it started getting boring pretty fast. There is a lot of clan politics, a lot of “lass”, even on their first night (?!) and a lot of telling me how much chemistry they have and how attracted they are to each other. Too bad I didn’t feel the chemistry or attraction one bit.
If you’re into Scottish historical romance, vaguely medieval (vaguely because the story is not set in a specific time periodic), and with plenty of plot, this might be the book for you. It’s definitely realistic enough (the heroine’s sewing skills serve her well when she has to sew wounds. We are not told how many survive without antibiotics and proper disinfectants), it’s written well enough, it’s not necessarily a bad book. Just a very boring one for me, barely made myself to finish it.
Stolen by the Highlander is the first in Terri Brisbin’s A Highland Feuding series. It’s a Scottish historical with warring clans, murder, trickery, kidnapping, a beautiful woman, a hero, a villain – and some pretty steamy scenes woven into what is a sweet and delightful love story.
Because it’s “Scotland in the past” and perfectly acceptable for the times, in order to end a centuries long feud between the Camerons and the Mackintoshes, Arabella Cameron has been promised in marriage to one of the two Mackintosh cousins, Brodie or Caelan, whichever one becomes chieftain of the clan. But suddenly Arabella’s brother is murdered and Brodie is blamed. Arabella will now be Caelan’s bride.
Not so fast! Brodie knows Caelan is up to no good and ending the feud is not really what he has in mind. And when Brodie kidnaps Arabella the morning of her wedding the excitement begins.
The characters are larger than life but still well-developed and with depth. The writing is solid and it is easy to insert yourself into the world of the Camerons and the Mackintoshes. Arabella and Brodie have a smoldering attraction that soon bursts into flame, but also a growing awareness of something possibly deeper that is satisfyingly romantic to watch.
Stolen by the Highlander is a great start to a new series, with a nice little teaser for the next one. Thanks to author Terri Brisbin and narrator Jill Tanner for a very enjoyable trip to the Scottish Highlands via a copy of this book on CD.
I liked this book. It was a well written enjoyable read. I look forward to the next one in this series. This has a different star than my Amazon review because the stars have different ratings. I wish B&N, Amazon and Goodreads stars all had the same meaning.
I really enjoyed this book! The plot was really good and I loved the characters. I kinda guessed the twist (if you can call it that) but still enjoyed the telling. Sign of a good book! Even looked into purchasing the next one in the series as Rob’s character caught my attention and I believe the sequel is with him as male lead.
Highlanders are so my jam and Terri Brisbin is so great at bringing these stories to life. I love the unique plots, the scorching hot passion and that I don't have to wade through a sea of "ken" and other phrases. Brodie is gruff, noble and awesome. Bella was a strong lass with a mind of her own. I'm moving on to Rob's story!
Riveting! Loved the story and madly in love With the characters. Through the author's writing I felt their pain and their joy. I await the weekend so I can read the rest of the series without real life getting in the way.
I was enjoying this book simply as a lovely historical romance, until the plot thickened and political intrigue and betrayal got involved! Then I couldn’t get enough of this book and wanted more!!! Hopefully the next book is the same standard because I’m about to start it!
Trashy, predictable, mindless fun. You can probably guess the story from the title. Girl is kidnapped and turns out the kidnapper is the good guy. Etc.
New to me author- great read. Exciting with a good pace. Emotionally charged and well thought out characters who you can easily fall in love with....how can it go wrong?
Stolen by the Highlander By Terri Brisbin A Highland Feuding #1
Somehow, I missed this series by Terri Brisbin. I follow her on Facebook and saw that she put out the second book of the series. I stopped what I was doing and downloaded both books. Usually, I worry about downloading more than one book at a time of a series because, if the first book bites rocks, I would have wasted money on a second book that I won’t read but I never have to worry that a Terri Brisbin book will be bad. Her books are always satisfying.
Arabella Cameron has been offered up by her father like a sacrificial lamb to end a centuries long feud between the Camerons and the Mackintoshes. She is to be married to one of the two Mackintosh cousins, Brodie or Caelan, whichever one becomes chieftain of the clan. The decision will be made by the current chief, their uncle and the Mackintosh council. But when Brodie is blamed for killing her brother, it is decided that she will marry Caelan.
Brodie ends up stealing Arabella before she is married to Caelan. He has to convince her that Caelan is not who he pretends to be and he has evil plans in the works
The romance was great but I did get a little irritated about how nobody thought it was odd that everyone fell asleep the night of Arabella’s brother’s murder and couldn’t remember anything except for Caelan and a few of his friends who happened to witness the murder. But besides that, this was a great beginning to a new series.
**Actually, I give it a 3.5 star rating.** Since I was already in the Scottish Highlands, I decided to stick around and travel a little further back in time to somewhere between the 14th and 16th centuries, with Stolen by the Highlander, the first in a new series. Warring clans, murder, trickery, kidnapping—whew!—standard elements in this type of novel but told Brisbin's way the whole still felt thrilling and fresh.
Arabella hid her spirited nature behind a complacent facade out of self-preservation from a brutal childhood. Trained to fulfill her duty to her clan, only the most perceptive would catch her quick mind and keen observational skills. And since our highland heroes are always perceptive—right?—Brodie saw beyond her mask and dared to believe he might have a chance to win her. Unfortunately, having accusations of her brother’s murder pinned on him crushed his fledgling hopes.
Though you may be able to guess the rest, watching Arabella and Brodie fall in love was delightfully romantic. Perhaps not the most swoon-worthy but, more important, their affair was satisfying and authentic. Besides, don't you get a kick out of insinuating yourself into their fantasy? That's okay, I won't tell, but we both know even our closet members eat this stuff up.
Even if it’s not a story to catapult itself to the top of your To-Read pile, Stolen by the Highlander is still a solid romance at 3.5 stars. Happy reading!
Men, men… 🙂
http://leslecturesdeveralice.blogspot...
Arabella Cameron is a pawn in the war between two clans. She knows her place and is willing to marry a Mackintosh to end a generations long feud. The choice is between Caelan and Brodie Mackintosh until Bodie is accused of killing her brother and banished from Cameron lands. So marriage to Caelan is to take place until Brodie abducts her from her room during the night before and takes her to his hiding place high up in the Highlands. Met with suspicion, Arabella soon wins them over with her skills at healing. Brodie knows that Caelan is behind everything and when Caelen comes for Arabella, he'll do whatever is necessary to claim the woman he loves!
