IN SAFE KEEPING

Laura Prentiss will do whatever it takes to save her father—even come out of witness protection. Ever since turning in evidence that put her dangerous ex behind bars, she's had a killer on her trail. It'll take someone extraordinary to keep her safe now—someone like former navy SEAL Griffin Devaney. Griffin blames himself for the ambush that took his teammates' lives, and he's determined that nothing will ever happen to someone under his protection again. But as the connection between Griffin and Laura grows, so do the threats against them. Griffin will put everything at stake for a future with Laura—if they survive long enough to have one.

aka Debra S. Cowan, Debra Marshall

A native Sooner, romance author Debra S. Cowan was born in Idabel, Oklahoma, and later moved to the Tulsa area. Like many writers, Debra made up stories in her head as a child. Her B.A. in English was obtained with the intention of following family tradition and becoming a school teacher, but after she wrote her first novel, there was no looking back.

An avid history buff, Debra enjoys traveling. She has visited places as diverse as Europe and Honduras, where she and her husband served as part of a medical mission team. Debra still lives in Oklahoma with her husband.

She is a member of Romance Writers of America and is the Past President of Oklahoma Romance Writers of America. Her writing has been called "fast-paced", "vivid", "emotionally satisfying", and distinguished by "strong, compelling characters". Romantic Times Magazine says, "Her stories have the charm, tenderness and sensuality that captivate and enchant." Affaire de Coeur predicts, "Cowan shows the beautiful promise of a rising star." And The Literary Times urges, "Treat yourself to a novel by Debra Cowan. You'll be glad you did."

4+ stars This is the first I've read in "Love Inspired Suspense/Inspirational" genre or category, but it won't be my last. It was very enjoyable, easy, quick read with suspense at times, subtle romance (which is a good thing b/c I'm not a romance fan--except for some contemporary rom-com's), and some mild inspirational, spiritual/religious content (which was nicely done; not obnoxious, in-your-face bible thumping). I loved the characters and setting and wouldn't mind in a series. I will definitely try more in this category again.

Setting starts in Colorado but moves quickly to Oklahoma b/c Laura Prentiss/Parker, who is in Witness Protection b/c she turned in and testified against he ex who the attempted to kill her, learns her estranged father is dying and in need of her stem cells so she decides to leave WitSec very briefly under protection in order to go through the process. Ex-SEAL Griffin Devaney, who is also an employee of her aunt, along w/Boone, Sydney & Ghost are protecting Laura and her aunt and quickly are under attack trying to kill Laura again, presumably by people affiliated w/her ex. Griffin is also fighting PTSD from an attack on him and 3 team members in Afghanistan and doubting his abilities to protect, especially after the first attempt on Laura's life was so close. Laura has recently found her faith again, which allowed her to reconcile w/her father as well as get through the tough times in WitSec, and she tries to help Griffin in believing again after the trauma he has been through.

Coming out of Wit-Sec, even temporarily, is a big risk but Laura has no choice - she has to save her father. Fortunately she has a former Navy SEAL to protect her. Laura trusts Griffin Devaney but does Griffin trust himself to keep her safe?
This is a beautiful story of finding forgiveness even after tremendous heartache and loss.
Highly recommend!

This was an excellent action packed romantic suspense. I loved the plot which really touched my heart since my nephew had also had this procedure done.

WITNESS UNDERCOVER is Ms. Cowan’s debut Love Inspired Suspense. It is a good one. Laura isn’t kept on the run the whole time, but struggles to stay near her dad as he undergoes a blood marrow transplant. But she came out of a witness protection program to donate the blood marrow to save her dad. Her ex-boyfriend is in jail, but he seems to be behind the attacks. . . but who is helping him? So many suspects—and the attacks keep coming. I figured out the who-dun-it pretty quickly, and wasn’t wrong, but WITNESS UNDERCOVER was so well written I had to keep reading to see what happens next. If you like romantic suspense you will enjoy WITNESS UNDERCOVER.

4.5 stars. Available in ebook and paperback. 224 pages.

Laura comes of our witness protection in order to donate bone marrow to her dad and needs to rely on Griffin to keep her safe while she is in town. From the moment Griffin met Laura he has felt a pull to her, however because she is only a temporary assignment he tries to keep it at arms length. Almost as soon as Laura arrives back in town an attack on her lift is attempted and when that isn't successful the attacker turns his sights on Griffin. Numerous attempts are made on both these characters and I began to wonder if they will survive and can they figure out who is responsible. Will Laura have to go back into witness protection. The connection between Griffin and Laura felt real and I was sad that it looked like they would not be able to explore it. I really enjoyed the last chapter, Griffin trusts his heart and makes a decision that will affect his whole life, and things work out for Laura. Debra does a great job of keeping the readers attention, I would definitely read more by her.

"Cowan’s LIS debut engages the reader early on, making it difficult to put down. She creates characters who remind us that there are people willing to lay down their lives for those they love, just like Jesus" (RT Book Reviews, 4 stars).
