unCONventional by Isaac Sher is a MFFF polyamorous gay romance set against the backdrop of a sci-fi fantasy convention, specifically an Anime Horde in the Midwest. The story is a love tale with plenty of affection to go around. It is fun and explores open relationships, emotional discoveries, and the highs and lows of sharing an unconventional love.

This was my first time reading a work by Isaac, and I was pleasantly surprised by his writing style. While polyamorous romance is not usually my go-to genre, I do enjoy various forms of reverse harem stories, so this wasn't too far off, just featuring more female characters.

The narrative is presented from the points of view of all the characters—Iris, Felix, Michelle, and Rachel—though it mainly focuses on Iris and Felix. I appreciated getting to know everyone's thoughts, as it provides a better understanding of their personalities. Isaac’s characterization makes them feel real.

Will they be able to sustain a relationship with so many people involved without getting hurt? To find out, you will have to grab a copy!

If you are looking for a 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ polyamorous romance centered at an anime convention, this book is for you. While this is not a book I would normally read, I enjoyed it enough. There is a lot of spice, and not a lot of the convention, which is my only grievance.

This was an interesting read set at an Anime convention.

The book is mostly told in the POV of Felix and Iris but you do get the POV of three other characters. Felix and Iris are in a relationship and they let Michelle and Rachel join. This is a MFFF poly romance.

The only complaint I have is I wish we would have gotten more of the Anime Convention. I understand why it is writing the way it is but the convention is what brought them all together or back together.

thank you Rowan Publishing for the copy of unCONventional

AnimeHorde is off to a roaring start, and Felix is looking to have a better time this year, focusing on the fun of the event, rather than getting laid, like he did last year. Determined to put that embarrassment behind him, he throws himself wholeheartedly into the proceedings, that is, until he sees a gorgeous woman wearing the get-up of his favourite character, from his favourite anime. And she wears it well.
Iris is determined to have a good time at Animecon, spurred on by her family and her Ex, she knows she needs to put the past behind her, and what better way than to go and have fun, dressed in a costume from her favourite anime. What she doesn’t expect is to immediately meet a guy who makes her heart race. Nor does she expect to meet a girl (Rachel) with whom she has a little history. But Rachel also seems to have some history with Felix, too. Where will the fortuitous meeting lead, and how does Rachel's friend Michelle play into all of this?

This book wasn’t for me. I should say that I don’t really like Polyamory books, and I didn’t realise that this was a poly romance going in. I was drawn to this book because of the nerdy aspect of it, and I will say that it definitely delivered on the nerd-dom. There were references galore, and I thought that Sher did a grand job nailing the awkward interactions between some of the characters. There were some really sweet moments in here, and I liked the way Sher made the characters feel real, giving them history and complicated relationships that went beyond the main story. This is a very spicy story, so if that's your jam, then I recommend this. I will say that one of the positives I took from this read was how open some of the characters were about their sexuality and preferences. It was refreshing to read, and I felt like Sher included a good mix and diverse cast of characters.

Though this wasn’t for me, I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a spicy Poly Romance with plenty of nerdiness and a whole host of fun and diverse characters to go with it.

unCONventional by Isaac Sher unique exploration of love, identity, and connection, set against the vibrant backdrop of a fandom convention. The story is a blend of humor, heart, and complexity, with a MFFF polyam connection.
The characters are quite diverse, each bringing their own quirks, flaws, and adding some emotional depth to the story. The exploration of open (polyam) relationships and emotional self-discovery is handled with sensitivity and seems authentic, making the story feel both modern, but still deeply human.
The convention setting immerses readers in the world of cosplay, fandoms, and the unique camaraderie that comes with it. It’s a bit of a love letter to geek culture, while also delving into the messy, beautiful realities of unconventional relationships.
unCONventional will resonate with fans of LGBTQ+ romance stories, anyone who has ever felt a little out of place but found their people, and for those who enjoy stories that challenge norms while celebrating love in all its forms.
Happy Reading…

unCONventional by Isaac Sher

5 out of 5 stars

This is the first book I've read by the author. Who knew going to a convention would work out like that? Man, if I could afford to go to one I would in a heartbeat just to see if I could find a love like this. The book and seeing this first hand for someone I follow makes me wish. The writing can't be taken for granted because it will suck you in and not let go. Could I possibly give this book a thousand stars?

Frank works the convention. He isn't exactly a star appearing in one; he's the one who sets up and tears down. He didn't exactly have a good year last year, but he's not letting that get him down. When he sees someone who reminds him of who he was he helps out. When a friend he was with says someone about she's glad he's her friend he replies with: “Anyone shallow enough to give you crap about any of those things wouldn’t be worth your time anyway, Kalli. I’m not a trained combat veteran like you, but if I saw someone being cruel to you, I’d find a way to kick them in the head on general principle.”

unCONventional by Isaac Sher. This is one hot polyamorous read that will have you flipping pages late in the night. Its the story of a Anime Horde convention where they are having a costume contest and Felix is in charge of it. Felix is determined to enjoy the convention this year and not just worry about getting lucky. That is until he sees the most gorgeous woman dressed up as his favorite character. Her name is Iris and Felix has got to know her. Iris is coming off a break up and wants to just let loose and have fun. When she meets Felix she is smitten and excited about what is to come. Enter Rachel who Iris has a past with and things get really messy. With everyone being very up front about their status, how they identify and what they want there are no mixed signals and things get really heated! The only problem with this read is you may need a cold shower afterwards! This is a great erotic read!

Things are really sizzling at the Grand Royalty Hotel and Convention Center. Over one long weekend, they will serve as hosts to the annual Anime Horde Convention, an homage to the Japanese art of anime. Registrants come dressed as their favorite characters, shop for memorabilia and take part in a costume competition which is overseen by Felix Jackson and his buddy Prowl. But there’s a whole lot more going on behind the scenes for Felix. This weekend will see all his secret desires and fantasies come true.

Let me be clear, this is fictional, fantasy erotica. There is very little plot, with lots of sweat and swapping of bodily fluids. It is told in alternating voice by Felix and his main squeeze, Iris who decide to invite others into their unCONventional relationship. Definitely for adults only!

Whew! Dang, that was just spicy! At first it took me a minute to get into the story and I am glad I stuck it out. I really enjoyed following along with Iris and Felix as they navigate their budding relationship. The best part is how everyone communicates, there is nothing left hanging or any uncertainty because the characters talk. Felix and Iris are very open minded with each other and their relationship and that shows in the interactions with Rachel and Michelle. I was skeptical at first but really enjoyed how everyone fit together. Happy to see Prowl and Bianca with a happy ending as well. Would really like to see another book, maybe showing how everyone is fairing after the con and into the next one?

This enjoyable MFFF polyamorous romance is set against the backdrop of a sci-fi fantasy convention. All four of the main characters meet at Anime Horde, “the best Midwest convention ever”! Iris is still getting over a breakup that also ruined her career, Felix is a staffer at the con, whilst Rachel has a crush on Felix, and Rachel’s best friend Michelle has a crush on her. As things become complicated, the four attendees soon learn that what happens at the convention doesn’t stay at the convention! This entertaining, steamy, unconventional romance kept me happily turning the pages. I loved the four very realistic and relatable main characters, and I liked how the story was told from each of their POV’s.

This book is the first one I have read by this author and it has definitely piqued my interest in what they have to offer. The cover of this book is what caught my attention, enough so that I didn’t bother to read the description of the book before starting it. This meant, when I started reading, I got story that I really wasn’t expecting but thoroughly enjoyed.
I loved the mix of different characters in the book. They all brought something different to the story and I enjoyed getting to know about them all a bit more. Their connections were strong and relatable and I thought the author brought them all to life so well. This was a great story from start to finish.

Break ups, hook ups, secret crushes, oh my! Welcome to Anime Horde, the best Midwest convention ever! Felix is helping to staff the hoarde when he meets Iris who has a ruined career after a breakup. Rachel, she has a crush on Felix, has come to the convention with her bestie Michelle. Now Michelle has a crush on Rachel and she hasn't said anything about it yet. I hope you can keep up with who is with who or who likes who because it can become a bit much. There is plenty of steam if that's what you're looking for. I can't say there was much of a plot to the book but the characters were likable.

Wham, bam, thank you ma'am!!! This storytelling was intense!!!! When I say intense I mean spicey intense! As someone who is polyamorous, this made my heart sing with joy. I love that it was beautifully written and the one big thing that this community preaches is communication! All of the people involved with Felix and Iris, had great communication, and if problem arose, it was solved pretty quickly. While there wasn't much "story" there was A LOT of spice to this story, so if that's not for you, then I suggest you move along and find some other book. But, if you are someone like me who likes story with their smut, then this is the right book for you!

“UnCONventional” is based around the fictional Anime Horde convention, self-proclaimed to be “the best Midwest convention ever!” The main characters of Felix, a VP staff member, and Iris, an Anime fan with a talent for costumes and a lonely heart, create a dramatic moment when they lock eyes on Day One. Throw a previous-year crush and a hidden BFF desire into the mix, and you have some VERY steamy and complicated situations ahead!

Great read for fans of the slightly geeky, sci-fi anime convention scene, with a healthy dash of sizzle thrown in!
