The Sweet Valley Twins are no strangers to vying for attention. But when their mom starts focusing on helping a friend, the twins face a tough choice: should they team up against her or make room for someone new in their family?

Dive into the fun and drama of this New York Times bestselling graphic novel series!

The Sweet Valley Twins have a lot of work to do – between Elizabeth's newspaper articles and Jessica's new celebrity cook book project, there's barely any time for anything else! When their friend Mary decides to help them both the twins are relieved – but Mary seems more determined to help their mom around the house than them with their work! Jessica is suspicious that Mary is more interested in Mrs. Wakefield being her new mom than in actually being friends with her and Elizabeth, but Elizabeth isn't so sure. There has to be a reason why she'd rather be with the Wakefields than at home, right? The exciting seventh entry into the hit graphic novel adaptation of the beloved Sweet Valley spin-off series!

This was my favorite book in this particular series. I loved that it had suspense and a very very heartwarming ending ( I love books with that ending style) overall I thought this was a spectacular and unique book in the series💜

Not my favorite SVT; I wish that they would start doing them randomly with the more popular books from the series and not just 1, 2, 3, etc. Peak SVT was books #50-100 and all the special/super editions that came out in that same time span. I do like the illustrations though.

3.5 stars. I had absolutely no memory of this plot, so I re-read the original book before tackling the graphic novel version. As per usual, this is a faithful but updated rendition of the story.

Mary Giacco is one of those rare kids who is friends with both twins in middle school, and she starts inviting herself over to the Wakefield house in order to spend all of her time with Mrs Wakefield. Jessica is annoyed (of course) and a little creeped out by her friend's seeming obsession. It takes some work to convince Elizabeth that Mary is a little too eager to be Mrs Wakefield's shadow, but she does indeed manage to Liz to agree to stop inviting Mary over. Liz breaks down pretty quickly to tell her why and Mary reveals that she is missing her own mother terribly, and how hard it is to be a foster kid while holding out hope that her "real" mother will find her again, even after nearly 8 years. Of course, this being the Valley, even the most outlandish wishes come true: Mrs Robinson shows up looking for Mary and the two have a huge, ugly-crying reunion.

The update to the main story is necessary, but it loses a bit of the sweetness of the original (Liz figuring out that this woman who so resembles her own mother is really Mary's mother). There's pretty much no way a strange woman approaching a bunch of kids off by themselves and asking for one of their friends would fly, tho. (Honestly? It didn't fly in 1987, either.)

The subplots are more or less the same, though the idea of the Unicorns raising funds for their own cheerleading costumes isn't as fun as their idea to hold a dance (not to mention it'd cost a LOT more than dance supplies would). Liz and the Sixers are in the running for a prestigious youth newspaper prize, which they of course win. I miss the idea of Mr Bowman being a nerdy young man, tho, and the Sixers staff spying in his gradebook when he's not looking, LOL.

Jessica continues to be the absolute worst, and Liz continues to be her willing and able doormat of a twin - and is even more willing to hang around Lila, now that Lila has a horse to call her own. Let's just say this isn't Elizabeth's finest hour, LOL.

Fans of the original books are sure to enjoy this graphic novel adaptations of the Sweet Valley Twins series. They're so wholesome and good, filled with good life lessons and imperfect characters in the form of the Wakefield twins. In this installment, Jessica becomes suspicious of Mary, one of the Unicorns who seems to want to spend all her free time at their house, helping the girls' mother. Elizabeth continues to stay busy with the school newspaper and fending off Jessica's efforts to get her to take on tasks for which Jessica volunteered. Although her heart is in the right place, Jessica makes several mistakes due to carelessness, making her all the more relatable to middle-grade readers. While much of this is predictable, it's still fun to read and become immersed in sweeter, softer, gentler times and places.

It’s amazing how each book manages to make Jessica more annoying and vapider than the last. This girl got no learning curve, tsk tsk. I’ve come to terms Jess will never have character progression, but I enjoy reading these nonetheless. The appeal is Jess messing things up and Liz trying to resolve the situation with the side characters, anyway.

It’s easy to see early on Mary, the new character here, wants the type of family life, or more so, a mother like the twins have. She’s kind, albeit a little clingy.

The artwork is still one of the shining highlights of this series.

This is a case where the story is dragging things down because the art is very cute. It's not that the story is bad, it's more... the least interesting Mary story, but I guess they do need to set her up for later stuff. I did really love Alice shifting into Mom mode and the visual of Mary's mother vs Alice makes Mary's latching onto Alice make total sense.

Jessica and Elizabeth are visited by a girl who seems obsessed with their mom. But why is she so obsessed? This was a very fast read and one that didn’t have a huge plot, but it was one that was pretty enjoyable.

These books really need to figure out what year they want to be based in. They’ve given the girls cell phones, but yet they are mailing letters and no one knows how to type (then how do they text?) and they watch music videos. It’s just so awkward.
