Off Limits is part of an interconnected series by 6 Australian authors, the Sunburnt Heart series. It can be read as a standalone.
Off Limits is a dark romance. Please check your triggers before diving in. I have to admit, I found myself triggered by the FMCs familial relationship and had to talk them through with my husband. I definitely related to certain aspects of Dottie's life.
A taboo relationship between FMC and MMC, being step-uncle and niece. Damon has been present in Dottie's life since she was a young girl, having stepped up and adopted her cousin (and best friend), Arrie. There were never any feelings prior to them meeting as adults much later in life. There is also an age gap, 24yo to 46yo.
The first half of the book is definitely focused around Dottie coming back to Barrenridge and her relationship with Damon, whether it be that relationship or the alter ego, online relationship between Tin Man and Blossom. It is spicy, and from very early on. We also have one of my fav micro tropes, "fuck it."
There is the added risk of Arrie finding out and being dismissive of the relationship between her best friend / cousin and her dad.
We then move on to Dottie's home life and understanding her relationship with her mother and father, healing from past and current trauma associated with them and their addictions. It's a wild ride.
Damon's past with Arrie's mum also comes to light, a crossover of characters from No Strings, with Shane coming back into play briefly, and a brief mention of Morgan.
Special mention to Arrie and Dottie's relationship. I love how they are with each other. True friends first 💕
Overall, it was a great dark romance with lots of spice and dark themes. I love how these series are all connected through the small town of Barrenridge, but I love how they're all so different and can be read as standalones.

I loved every second of Damon and Dorothy’s story. It’s an emotional roller coaster but in the best way possible.
I cried, I smiled and laughed. There is a lot of trauma in this one and I felt everything Dottie was feeling. Your writing style is on point and it just helped that much more to drag me into the story. Dottie had an extremely hard and toxic upbringing. As someone who has also had some of the same struggles as a child. I felt so connected to Dottie in a way that made me feel seen.
Now let’s talk about the sexy, older man Damon. He was FIRE, very caring, protective and hot in all the right ways. I love me an older man and he was amazing with Dottie. Helping her through so much and showed her a love and happiness that she never knew existed in the world.
Their dynamic and chemistry is so powerful. I would definitely recommend this book for all those dark and forbidden romance readers out there, a very easy 5 stars from me.

I was extremely lucky to be able to Alpha and then Arc read this one for Lena and let me tell you it was an easy 5 star read for me. I am so proud of Lena for everything she has put into this story. I could feel it so deeply in my soul and I know their story will stay with me forever.

While reading it I found myself fully immersed in Dottie and Damon’s story, it was so heartbreakingly beautiful and had me feeling every single emotion possible. It was such a rollercoaster!
A lot of tears were shed but also found myself giggling during certain scenes, especially when Dottie was being a little brat. 🤭
Lena really dug deep with this one and it really comes through in her writing. I felt myself connecting and relating so much to Dottie throughout the book and I really felt for her especially with her toxic family relationships.
This is not your typical love story.
Showing a relationship that is so raw and real it’ll have you on the edge of your seat the whole way through.

Upon return, she stays at her former step-uncle’s apartment as he is away but then suddenly he’s back. Dottie’s always felt an attraction to Damon, her former step-uncle, which Damon slowly reciprocates as he spends time with his former niece. They both are supposed to be off limits to each other, but their mutual attraction builds and builds until what is supposed to be forbidden turns into something more tangible. While they fight their forbidden attraction, both Dottie and Damon deal with toxic family problems - Dottie dealing with parents who are addicts, and Damon dealing with his insufferable ex-wife (Dottie’s aunt). The loss of a family member leads our MC’s to resolutely seek each other despite the consequences.. and their story is still far from over.
While the circumstances aren't super close to each other, I related to Dottie with having a parent who could have a flipped emotion with the snap of a finger, and who could be extremely upset to the point where you think they don't care - but then they have little signs that that do care even if it's extremely rare. Another thing that I thought was cool was how Lena approach with BDSM and also having aftercare. While most of the books I have read does mention aftercare, Damon caring for Dottie just hit different and I loved it.
The only reason that I did not give it 5 stars is because of some of the editorial mistakes which I did let the author know about so please don't let that stop you from reading this book!
Damon and Dottie's story isn't exactly over just yet, and I hope everyone gets obsessed with wanting the sequel just as much as I do! While this book might not be for everyone with its trigger warnings, I would recommend it for my fellow sick fvcks (;

This book is about Dottie and Damon, and damn it was. I absolutely loved these two characters.
The forbidden fruit you know you shouldn't want, but you do. The feelings between Dottie and Damon and the urge to not act upon them were so good.
This book had me feeling everything while reading it, I laughed so hard, definitely went red in the cheeks, that's for sure. This book had great plot with some amazing spice that literally turned my face bright red.

This book was an easy 5 stars for me. I loved every minute of Dottie & Damon's story. I loved how easy it was to connect to the characters and feel all of their feelings. I found myself giggling at some parts of this book and that is just the best kind of book. This book has it all, great banter, a little forbidden love, age gap, forced proximity. Need I say more?

The complex and toxic family dynamics were so well written, as was the trauma and abuse experienced by some of the characters. Off Limits touches on some heavy topics, but was raw and emotional, and showed healing and that despite hardships experienced, there is still happiness and love to be found in those around you... even if they are "forbidden." The characters were so well written, and their personalities really shone through in the writing.
If you love a spicy, forbidden read, you're going to love this one.

This book had me entranced from the start. I struggled to put it DOWN! I loved every minute of it. From the emotions, the story, to the spicy parts. The spicy parts were absolutely perfect. But the whole story was so good. I’m so invested in the side characters too! When I read the end of this series, I was so freaking happy! Thank you Lena! Because I need to know moreee! 😍😍😍

What an emotional rollercoaster !! Gosh I loved this book so much. Dorothy is such an amazingly relatable character and I felt all her pain and struggles. I think Damon was a perfect coupling for her. So caring and just seems to know what she NEEDS. I also LOVED the little subtle Wizard of Oz references throughout. Kinda makes me want to reread it just to see if I can dissect anymore because they were so fun to find. I think the BD$M aspect was done really really well and I loved watching the characters fall so effortlessly into those rolls and seeing how much it elevated their personal growth. The emotional trauma is this book thou Ooft had me balling my eyeballs out. That ending too !! OH MY GOD WHAT !! Oh the cliffhanger was cliffhangering and I’m so keen to see what happens next because wowzers it’s gunna tear my poor heart out. Ok so in terms of spice for this one well … she’s spicy. It’s about a 4/5 in terms of spice, there’s a lot of solo scenes as well as couple scenes with BD$M themes so it’s detailed really well and pearl clutchingly spicy. Overall, I’m in love and I cannot wait till book 2 because ugh it was so amazing. It tore my heart out but you know.. in like a good way.. it’s a 5/5 read for me definitely check it out !!

I have to say that this book pulled at my heart strings a lot as i related to the FMC with the toxic family dynamics But i felt Lena did this justice and did it in a sensitive way.
This is not what i would call a regular love story it feels real and raw and its even taboo with step uncle and step niece. There are Dom and sub vibes going on - Dottie's bratty side always gave me a giggle. I was so immersed in Damon & Dottie's story, it was heartbreakingly beautiful she had me feeling lots of emotions , but the banter between these two and the spice scenes were absolutely delicious. This book is spicy as but those scenes are HOTTTT!
But i love her relationship with cousin/best friend those two are platonic soulmates and i just love their little saying. I cannot wait for this next continuation on from this.

This was my first time finishing a “forbidden taboo relationship” book, the romance being between an uncle and niece by marriage, which isn’t a trope I would normally consider or reach for.
I went in feeling unsure if “Off Limits” was for me, starting it off with the trigger warnings was straight away a win from me as it shows the author genuinely cares about their readers.
I can say i definitely ended up enjoying Off Limits! It’s a story that builds a safe, deep connection while also exploring BDSM and showing how those who’ve experienced trauma can find healthy outlets through intimacy. At the same time, it highlights the importance of genuine friendships and relationships and what it should truly look and feel like.
Off Limits is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me but I will say I wasn’t happy with being left on a cliff hanger! 😂

As an Aussie, I feel bad for saying that Off Limits is the first Aussie romance I've ever read - But it was a great one to kick off with. So good! It was the kind of forbidden romance that keeps you glued to the page. The chemistry between Damon and Dottie was on fire and the spice was spiiiiiiiiicy! It also had one of my favourite micro-tropes: secret text messages. I can't get enough of them! Thank you to Lena for the ARC copy of Off Limits. It was a fun ride. If you’re in the mood for a fast, flirty and steamy forbidden romance, this one delivers.

I loved the first book in this series but for some reason this books writing style was so different and hard to enjoy. I realised the sunburnt heart series are stand alones and that each book is written by a new author. Really wanted to like this but it just didn’t hit the Mark.

I was blessed to be given the opportunity to ARC read Off Limits. Lena Moore always delivers pure genius and captivates me in every book. From start to finish I was fully invested in the two main characters and their forbidden love.
Dottie had always had a crush on her Aunty’s husband Damon. And returning to her home town was never the plan, but when her cousin Arrie convinced her to help her out, she wasn’t expecting Damon Woods and the chaos that would come.
When you play with fire, you are bound to get burnt. But Damon gets under her skin and the magnetism between them is Electric. Torn between her heart and betraying her Cousin Arrie, this is not the fairytale most girls wish for. Will they get their happy ending or will Dottie lose everyone she loves.

Off-Limits is Dottie and Damon's is an age gap, taboo romance.
Though I disliked a few characters, I liked the main characters. The tension, the spice, the great banter - it all made for a great read.
This was my first book from this author and I can't wait to read more!
