The book “While Princesses Sleep” by Emma Right is a beautifully illustrated mystery about princesses getting into mischief. This mystery for young children takes place in the 19th century. Young Princess Elle and her sister Princess Belle are hearing strange noises at night when they should be sleeping. When they try to investigate they only find some odd answers and get into trouble.

I thought that “While Princesses Sleep” was a beautifully illustrated book. Right uses actual paintings by artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir to help in picturing the happenings in the story. The story itself was also quite entertaining. I grew up reading tales about princesses. Too often the tales are retold. This story is something new to my eyes. I liked that Right wrote about the thing princesses really did in the 19th century, such as painting and learning to play musical instruments. The princesses having a mystery to solve made the story exciting. The only disappointment I had in this story is that I have to till the next book in the series to find out what is really going on in the castle. However I do have my hunches about what is happening. I also wish that the names of the paintings were included. I really enjoyed reading the little bio about Pierre-Auguste Renoir that Right included in the back of the book. Not only is this a good book but it is also educational.

“While Princesses Sleep” is the first book in “The Princesses of Chadwick Castle Adventure Series”. I can see being a great series for young girls to read. I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

If you have a little girl, you’ve got to get this book! My step-daughter is seven and really enjoyed it! I will definitely be getting the second book for her. We read it together in sections at bedtime, and I can honestly say that even I enjoyed it. The book is great for young girls, and the illustrations are beautiful! You really cannot go wrong introducing your little girl(s) to these two princesses. Ella and Bella are well rounded characters, full of life, curiosity, adventure, and spunk! .I highly recommend every parent add this book to their daughters collection...it’s an awesome book for its intended audience. For sure, they will want to read it repeatedly!

This book is perfect for any young girls 6-11. The reading level and length is suitable for the age level that is intended, and so are the characters. Most girls will fall in love with the two sisters, Ella and Belle, and their lives at the Chadwick Castle with their pretty dresses, governesses, and lives as princesses. It's fairy-tale like, and has enchanting, beautiful paintings on every page. The best part about this book, though, is the unique plotline, and how, even though the book starts off with the lives of two princesses, it develops into a mystery. You would definitely want to get the second book after this!

Reading this book, (mark that as of yet I do not have any children) the one thing that kept on popping up is that, should I ever have a daughter, this is the type of book I would like her to read. Personally, combining fantasy, art, culture and morals in a book like this is genius. It almost made me wish I was young again, and be able to open up this book without being acquainted with the art pieces yet. The manner of writing reminded me slightly of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, which I enjoyed so much as a child. So thank you to the author for bringing me back in time, and providing very young readers with an educated, fun read.

The story ends with a cliffhanger - so you'll definitely need to read the next book(s) to get the entire story. But the idea of a mystery and following it through is encouraged. And the art work is lovely. The idea is to introduce the reader to a new artist in each book of the series. I believe young children will love these books.
