The instructions were simple: seduce and destroy Harry Styles. Not once did they discuss the option of Louis actually falling in love. So, naturally, that's exactly what he did.
The character psychoanalysis in this story is so utterly mesmerising, I just couldn't stop being fascinated by their complexity and depth.I have read many published books that lack this sort of understanding of human behaviour, the evolution and development of their protagonists.Clearly in my top 10.
Extremely well written and deep for it to be Fanfiction... I definitely could see this being a published book.
This is the tale of the boy who leaves everything behind so that he is free and can live instead of just existing.
It's the tale of the boy who has nothing; who follows nothing; who makes his own rules; who feels barely anything and is empty and hollow inside...
This boy fills his days with games. Manipulative games that play with people's emotions...because he barely has any...
...until he gets a new "prey" and a new game. And he meets this other boy - weird, serious, extremely kind and sweet, kind of dorky and a bit sassy - he meets this odd boy and suddenly, unexpectedly, he starts feeling.
He’s the perfect liar, the master of manipulation... And it's all a game...Or is it?!
As time passes, feelings grow deeper and fear grows too. Is it all a game still?
When all is said and done and it ends, can he deal with having that boy hate him, and worse, hurt?
“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all. ” ― Oscar Wilde
What to do when he realizes that that boy is the one thing that has made him feel more alive in the last couple of years.
Will he lose him, when the game is done?
How will he live without?
Read the fanfic to find out ;)

I truly enjoyed reading this!
I'm not much for fanfiction, especially because I find them to be written poorly (not this one!) or to be shallow (again, not this one!)
The story is really interesting. The characters deepness and transformation are very well developed.
I definitely connected with the characters (all of them, even Liam, who is kind of the evil guy here) and I certainly rooted for a happy ending for them.
And you don't have to be a fan of the Larry Stylinson fandom or of One Direction to enjoy this "book". This is purely a Love Story... Of feelings that grow between 2 boys that were just "existing" on their own, before finding each other and start actually "living".
I definitely recommend reading this Fanfiction! It's one of the best written fanfics I've read. And the story is sweet and deep and full of feels. So if you want to, check it out. You'll probably enjoy it.
Cruel intentions was one of my favourite movies growing up. Therefore, I was more than a little worried after reading the premise of Gods & monsters (the only understandable reaction if you are familiar with the ending of Cruel intentions). But as it is by Velvetoscar, who is fast becoming an all-time favourite author, I just couldn’t resist.
And I’m really glad I didn’t!
First off, the writing!!! It is simply superb and I would officially read Velvetoscar’s grocery list. Yes, it really is that good! Quite similar to Oscar Wilde’s style as well, which isn’t all that surprising with how many references there are to his work. In Gods & monsters for example, Louis has made Wilde’s famous quote “To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist that is all.” his life mission.
As for the characters, they go through so much development that you could quite fittingly call it a character study. In the beginning Louis is from the wrong side of the tracks, only out to save himself and some of his actions are cruel even. Harry on the other side is a literal angel on earth. He is ambitious, kind and always puts his family first. On paper it shouldn’t work but as they grow closer and come to trust each other, their relationship is the cutest. Also they are so incredibly supportive of each other. Harry shows Louis that he is worth so much more than he gives himself credit for while Louis gives Harry the confidence to go after the life he actually wants.
And lastly the plot: as I mentioned before I am a huge fan of Cruel Intentions and therefore, I was certain I would enjoy the story overall, even though I was seriously scared throughout the whole book. And because of the alterations at the end, I enjoyed it even more and didn’t have to cry myself to sleep. Although, to be honest, I did tear up at the third-act breakup. But that just shows how good Velvetoscar is at making you feel attached to their characters. One of my favourite things and for which I respect Velvetoscar greatly is that not everything is fixed with a half-hearted apology but Harry and Louis have to work hard to get back the trust they lost.
Overall, simply a literary masterwork as can be expected from Velvetoscar!
Expectations truly are a books worst enemy. I was suffering from Young and Beautiful withdrawal and a lot of people online were saying that this book was just as good as, or even better than Y&B. This immediately excited me and made me want to read the authors other works. I think that my expectations for this book left me feeling a tad disappointed and that I would've enjoyed it more had I read this BEFORE Y&B.
The story line is definitely a Cruel Intentions au. I didn't really pay attention to that part until I started reading. I realized that it felt familiar and when I saw the tags I saw the comparison. I wasn't very thrilled because right from the start the idea felt kind of manipulative and icky but I continued anyway, out of curiosity and wanting to read more from Velvetoscar. Over time, the plot did start easing and I started overlooking the obviously problematic aspect of the story because the author did a really great job of justifying Louis and of not really making him do anything wrong. It definitely made me feel emotions though so that's a good sign.
I don't like how they don't fix things until the very last chapters though. It makes it feel rushed and like, the entire story is about seeing them come together and you do but you don't get to see them really enjoy it because then it just cuts off. The ending was rushed, it didn't feel smooth or realistic or like it made much sense? I would've been better too see it stretched out for a couple of chapters. I know that length can become an issue sometimes, but I've read Confessions of a Gay Disney prince, that fic is a SLOW slow burn with over 100 chapters. If the story is good enough, people will read it no matter the length. This story would've been so great had it been longer, it would've added to the story. Instead it feels too short and like it was going smoothly until the big rush at the end.
I did really love the characters. I liked their characterization and I quite enjoyed Liam's redemption arc. Harry and Louis' relationship was so great, and I deeply enjoyed seeing it slowly strengthen throughout. Ignoring their dynamic at the end which felt kind of off, they were truly a great duo and it was nice to read. I am absolutely in love with Zayn and I think he might be my favorite character from this book. He just feels so pure and understanding and a lot of what I want to be. I deeply enjoyed his appearances in this book. The story having more than just one love story makes this book really great, it adds to it quite a bit.
I also liked the communication. I'm quite aware that this is all literally one big miscommunication trope but I liked how Louis and Harry talked it out in the book shop. I hate characters having a falling out because after I'm never really satisfied. I think that it gets forgiven too quickly, or not forgiven fast enough. Their conversation at the book store was perfectly written and it's one of the few scenes I've read from any book where I truly thought it was healing instead of just scribbled down for plot. Although, Louis continuing to apologize over and over after everything was forgiven did take away from that a bit, I still enjoyed seeing them talk it out.
I mentioned that I read this book because of Y&B, but they're not the same at all? Not even really the writing style. I wouldn't have been able to tell that they were written by the same person based on it. The song recommendations were really cool though and I did add a lot of them to my playlist.
Overall, it wasn't a bad book. It's just not what I was expecting. It's a lot better than a lot of fics I've read. I deeply enjoyed a lot of their fluff and the angst. Their friendships and their love evolving. It didn't feel complete or like a satisfying ending, but I wouldn't say no to rereading this again. This is hard because this isn't a 3 stars book but it's not a 4 stars either. It is truly a 3.5 star book and when the rating system gets updated, if it ever does, I'll make sure to fix it.
Personal Summary: Louis is poor and homeless, he hangs around Liam because he's rich and helps him sometimes. They play a game often where Liam gives Louis a name and Louis seduces and ruins their reputation for Liam. Liam tells Louis to go after Harry to prevent him from winning a scholarship that Liam wants. So Louis goes after Harry and he slowly falls in love with him. He is also told to go after Niall but before he can Zayn falls in love with him so Niall and Zayn have a relationship in this book. Louis slowly heals from his past wounds with his family and Harry is sweet and innocent and makes Louis fall in love with him. They slowly fall in love and Louis has to handle Liam and the game along with his real emotions for Harry. Trying to keep the secret from Harry but also not letting the game dictate their relationship. We eventually find out that Liam has genuine feelings for Louis and he loves him, even though he's an asshole to him. Harry finds out it was all a game and it goes downhill. They fix it though and it's a happy ending.
ahh it really hurts to give this one "just" four stars. cause i enjoyed reading it so so much. Velvetoscar never disappoints! Maybe thats one of the reasons i think this is a great book but not perfect... not as good as Young and Beautiful. Dont get me wrong, i love it! But it was a bit uneventful sometimes .. it got dragged on a bit in my opinion (a bit! Not much! I just feel like it could 've happened a bit more in some chapters) And Nialls character felt a bit flat to me. But thats all. besides that this a wonderful story about making mistakes and being able to learn, to change and to forgive. Extremly well written. I cried a bit after I finished this book at 2 am in the morning. This book really touched me.
"They twine their hands, lightning bolts aligned as they begin walking down the road, everything synced and matched up, their sweat-damp skin still slick as the sun continues to fall, the stars blink awake, and the world bows at their feet."
Velvet Oscar does it again. I'm telling you she can't write anything bad. Her words always do something to me *in a cool way*.
Absolutely adored the plot. Louis was told to seduce and destroy the new kid Harry's reputation and if he succeeded to do so he could finally get Liam forever. But he didn't know he was gonna fall in love with Harry while trying to seduce him. I loved how soft, nice and positive Harry's character was. Meanwhile, Louis who didn't believe in love at all, his stone-cold heart finally began to melt like a candle after meeting Harry. I also loved how Louis didn't want to be intimate with Harry before he canceled the deal with Liam. Louis finally realized his mistake and did what was right. Of course, it hurt Harry but Louis' intentions were never bad. We also get a bit of Ziall in the fic. Also, the fact that Liam's character began to become a positive one at the end was good. All in all this fic was just as amazing and interesting as I thought it would be. It exceeded my expectations tbh. But let's be honest it's Violet Oscar writing it you can't go wrong with any of her writings.
Gods and monsters is too good a book and if it were to be sold in bookstores, I'd most probably deplete the stock. I lament the fact that I read Young and Beautiful before I did Gods and Monsters (don't get me wrong, Y&B IS my most favourite book of all time), only because I'll unknowingly be comparing the two masterpieces forever. I have never related more to a fictional character than i did to Louis in this book, and it left me in tears for just about every chapter ending. It's illegal, really, to write fanfiction this good. Ugh. I am forever on a quote hunt for this book and therefore have read it 3+ times, and each time without fail I come across something I'd not appreciated as much as I could have the first time. To put it simply, Gods and Monsters is worth reading—and simping after—for the rest of your mortal living.
i´m in love with the way her fics are witten, and with everything else really, for me the most important part of a book it´s the writing, the pscology of the characters and the climax, and i have to say, velvetoscar has everything.

It is well written but nothing really happens during the story. It is not boring and the characters are extremely cute. It's just that some of the characters hace little importance in the story.
This book was PHENOMENAL. I meant to read it over the summer, never got around to it, and then read it within 2 days after school started back. It was amazing and re-sparked my love for Larry fics.
this is insanely good. THE IN DEPTH CHARACTER STUDIES???? louis in this and his growth and development and him finally finding himself and getting from the world what he deserves. and harry? this story is so perfect i loved it so so much,m. the first favourite part that springs to mind is when louis spends christmas with harry and his family 🥺
