Borrowed Time

What's a multi-skilled pharmacist, the local footy star and a Workers' Compensation investigator got to do with the local Art Society? Apart from inadvertently contributing to the economic welfare of a ship that's on the verge of sinking, not much.

Leaving their arty roots and moral principles by the wayside, the committee members of the town's Art Society decide to bite the bullet and present the biggest show the town's ever seen; a Beer Festival.

Committing the cardinal sin by catering for the masses, the town's main players - along with a few stragglers - are let off the leash to run a farcical chaos. Thematically, it's all in the name of 'art' if only by accident and not by design.

Amid the drugs, the sex and a little bit of rock 'n' roll, coupled with a few ends of lawn bowls (yes, lawn bowls), enemies are made, victories are bitter sweet, while the losses taste very much the same. There's even room for a love story, or two. Will it be all strawberries and wine or will the ship sink? The clock's ticking.

Greetings to all and sundry,

To cut through the self-indulgence, I’ll quickly point out some facts. I derive from the Northern Tablelands of New South Wales, but now inhabit a grotto in the sunny metropolis of Brisbane, Queensland.

My influences range from all corners. In terms of authors, Irvine Welsh, Haruki Murakami, John Irving, Christopher Moore, Tom Robbins and Robert Rankin occupy the summit. Influences outside the realm of the written word include Justin K. Broadrick, David Pajo, Tom Waits, Vincent Gallo and Willis Earl Beal. Basically any artist willing to adopt a DIY ethos. Other than artists, just your run-of-the-mill average folk.

Other interests include sport and a deep and somewhat disturbing penchant for Liverpool Football Club. When the Reds aren’t occupying my time, music, reading, test cricket, rugby league, basketball and spending time with my wife and cat usually are.

What would persuade you to read my first published eBook, Borrowed Time? If you like the vulgarity of Irvine Welsh, the rawness of Robert G. Barrett and the humour of Escobar Walker, then Borrowed Time will be up your street. It’s a satirical encounter inspired by Regional Australia. It’s gritty realism with an Aussie spin. Pretentious, this is not.

My second eBook, entitled The Straight & Narrow will be released midway through this year, followed by the sequel to Borrowed Time, which I’m currently working on. It’s mooted for a 2016 release.
