In New Orleans, I'm known as the fun and laid-back LeBlanc brother. The Rebel CEO. I’m successful and determined, but I don't play by the rules. Heck, I don't even have rules except one. I never ever get involved with my assistants. After a very bad experience years ago, I know better than to mix business and pleasure. I've had no problems sticking to my rule until I hired Daisy. When I first meet her, I have no idea she’s my new temp assistant. I just set eyes on this gorgeous woman at my favorite coffee shop, and do what I do flirt with her like there's no tomorrow. When I realize my mistake, I change the tune. I'm cold and distant but my plan is not working. Not one bit. Whenever she steps into my office, all I think about is bending her over my desk. When she gives me sass, all I want is to cover her mouth with mine until she begs for more. Daisy is fun and unlike anyone I've met, and I gravitate toward her whether I want it or not. When she suddenly gets a call from home that her family needs help, I immediately take over. All lines blur, but one thing I know for sure, I won't let Daisy go. I just have to convince her that I'm the one. And I'm very convincing when I want to.
Another Leblanc brother bites the dust... aka gets swayed by the lilac 😆
The Rebel is the 5th book in the Leblanc Brothers Series by Layla Hagen and while I did really still enjoy Anthony and Daisy's romance- this one just wasn't my favorite.
3.5 ⭐
Again don't get me wrong- I still enjoyed the book, but I just didn't feel a real connection with either Anthony or Daisy. Anthony, like Beckett- the other remaining single brother, I feel like has always been implied that he is a bit of a ladies man. And aside from a brief mention of it, I kind of felt like we didn't get a taste of who he was outside of his work and family gatherings. Then there was Daisy, she's a little sassy and while she had strong convictions in her mind about not entertaining the idea of a relationship with her boss- she really didn't hold tight to those ideals all that well.
I really liked that instant spark and meet cute these two shared- and while I know Anthony was meant to be turning a new leaf and not be so grumpy/closed off toward his new assistant- I almost feel like I needed a little more of him acting out to really show off why he had needed so many assistants that year and to kind of highlight the generous and fun guy that he truly was outside of that work dynamic. Family is such a big proponent of this series- the Leblancs and Broussards are a family that is nosey as all get out but they are also there for one another without hesitation. So it's almost perfection that Daisy shares that same kind of sentiment. Though it was a little off that she wanted to hold tabs on her parents but at the same time she didn't ever want to go home to visit them and withheld her own truths while expecting them to be completely open with her about their lives.
The pacing of this book is also a little quick- attraction is quick, feelings are quick, this all consuming need for each other is quick. While I enjoyed all of it, I wish that there was a little more build up of the like heart of their relationship as well as the physicality of it.
So overall, good book- just not my favorite of the series. BUT THAT TEASE AT THE END?? I'm on edge waiting for Beckett's book right now because it can go so many ways and I'm so excited to see how Layla is going to finish out this series!
We are back in New Orleans for more of the LeBlanc-Broussard family. This is Anthony’s story, he is in need of an Assistant. Anthony is in charge of the family’s music venues, and has developed a reputation of being difficult. He has promised to improve.
Daisy has come to New Orleans for a new job, only to arrive to a hiring freeze. In desperation she takes the assistant job with Anthony.
In this family the grandma’s have a little magic, added with family gossip, and the attraction between Daisy and Anthony is on their radar. It is the flirty meet cute in a coffee shop, to “oh crap” he is my boss. Do the meddling grandma’s have another success story to tell?
Another Leblanc brother falls, I am loving this series. The family is always good for a laugh or two, but the love and support is always present. This is book five in the series, but it can stand alone. This reader recommends the entire series.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Daisy, she didn't have plans to stay in her small town and take over her family owned farm, with her parents support she studied and pursued her dreams in the city. She has now taken a job as a senior marketing manager in a company in New Orleans. But when the company has a hiring freeze, she finds herself taking any job available. Which so happens to be an assistant.
Anthony, CEO of the Orleans Conglomerate, his division is the music venues. He is laid back boss, but after a bad experience with an assistant. He keeps his distance and comes off as extremely rude. So now he needs to change his behaviour but that isn't easy when he meets Daisy and she makes him want more.
Oh the power of Lilac.
Anthony and Daisy have an instant connection from their first meet, resisting the temptation of wanting more isn't easy. The chemistry was 🔥 the spice was 🥵 and Anthony...well this man tried his best to get the grandmothers to find an antidote for the magic of Lilac but he fell in love anyway.
Absolutely loved being back with this family and we have one more brother to go. That little cliffhanger gor Becketts book!!! gah! I need more!
The Rebel is the fifth installment of the LeBlanc brothers. This is Anthony's story, one of two brothers left unattached. Anthony has been having a hard time keeping assistants because he is difficult to work for. Daisy moves to New Orleans for a job opportunity but the job falls through. To make ends meet, she ends up working for Anthony. Their meet cute was not at the workplace but rather at a coffee shop. They were instantly attracted to one another but once they meet again at the office they decide to keep it professional. That proves to be harder than it looks. Anthony and Daisy just gravitate towards each other whenever they're together. They had great interactions and were a very cute couple. I really liked them together. One of my favorite aspects of Layla's stories are the family dynamics. The LeBlanc-Broussard clan are the best. The love and bond they have is incredible. Once again, Layla Hagen wrote a fantastic story that I lost myself in. I can't wait to read Beckett's book. It is sure to be a good one!
This is actually the only series by Layla Hagen that I have been able to devour since I began my journey last year into her writing! I loved her instantly and she hasn’t let me down yet! For this title I got to not just read the ARC but also listen to the ALC a few weeks (about three) after I read the story and that’s my #happyplace ❤️ Also, huge shout out to both Robert Hatchet & Megan Wicks on their dual performance of this story! I’ve listened to a ton of other audiobooks performed by Robert, so I knew the likelihood of him not getting it right for me were super slim, but Megan I just met recently, and LISTEN … she needs to be on everyone’s radar that is an audiobook junkie! #TRUST She is incredible! 👏👏
Now, about Anthony and Daisy … gah, I really loved their story! It unfolded organically with little to no dramatics. Their story was entertaining and fun! The whole family is always this way, which is one of the aspects that I love about Layla’s worlds. She involves everyone in everything and keeps focus on the central plot, which of course is our romance couple. I enjoy stories where adults adult properly and its refreshing to know that Layla writes these kinds of stories always (that’s totally only based on my limited experience, but I get a feeling I’m right). I love the chemistry that Anthony & Daisy had from the very beginning even when Anthony was pushing back on his attraction! They were fiery and I loved it!
I’ve loved being in this family’s world and can’t wait for January 2026 to get here so I can devour Becket’s story! I think it’s going to be a doozy! ;)
The Rebel is Book 5 of The LeBlanc Brothers and it’s a standalone stunner! ✨
Daisy thought she had her dream job lined up in New Orleans until the firm pulled a hiring freeze and left her scrambling. Desperate to stay afloat, she takes a position as assistant to Anthony LeBlanc. Overqualified? Definitely. But maybe this gig will open the right doors into the LeBlanc empire…
Her first day starts off strong with coffee, a little banter, and some seriously charming flirting. Perfect morning, right? That is until she walks into her new office and realizes her new boss is that guy. ☕🔥
🎧 Audiobook fans - you don’t want to miss Robert Hachet and Megan Wicks bringing Daisy and Anthony to life!

Wow! Another great Story of the Leblanc Brothers, their family is truly inspiring and they are so proud of each other and truly grateful for what they have. Anthony is struggling to keep an assistant, and now getting another one, his goal is to do his best to keep the next one. Daisy moved to New Orleans for her dream job, but due to unforeseen circumstances she is looking for work again. What a chance she takes, creates new opportunities for her. See what this unexpected change brings for her, best of things can come when least expected. Loved this story.
Anthony is the easygoing Leblanc brother in charge of the music division of his family's empire. But he's not so easygoing with his assistants (for very good reasons), which is why his company has had problems finding an assistant for him again. He's scared off so many that the HR manager is at her wit's end finding one. Then in walks the beautiful stranger he had a very sweet, flirtatious moment with at the coffeeshop this morning. Suddenly he's found his personality again with Daisy in his office. But there are boundaries they can't cross, right? Professional ones that he is having a very hard time remembering each time he sees her.
When Daisy didn't get her dream job in New Orleans thanks to a hiring freeze, she told her recruiter she'd take just about any job at a company where she could get her foot in the door. That's why she's agreed to take an interview for an assistant job, even though it's not in the marketing field like her degree. But why oh why does the man who's interviewing her have to be the gorgeous guy who flirted with her at the coffeeshop earlier? She can't possibly cross the professional lines, can she?
I love the Broussard-Leblanc families! Anthony is the sweet brother, but boy does that sweetness disappear and the dirty make an appearance when the time is right. He and Daisy are reluctant to cross professional boundaries, but their chemistry was sizzling from their first meeting, so I knew they wouldn't resist for very long. He wants to shout it to the world, and even brings her to meet his family, and that's when he (and I) knew she was perfect for him. Of course they welcomed her with their typical loving, meddling ways, and I was reminded of just why I adore this large family. Then there's Daisy's family - once Anthony finds out how they're suffering, he steps up to help and proves to her why she's falling so hard. I love the NOLA setting, the Broussard-Leblanc clan (and the grandmas' insistence that their bits of magic help bring their grandsons love), and I can't wait for the final Leblanc brother, Beckett, to fall when The Single Dad releases next year.

Layla Hagen has done it again! I absolutely LOVED The Rebel! It is the fifth book in her The LeBlanc Brothers series. I was hooked from the first few pages; I loved every moment on every page of The Rebel it was impossible to put down. The Rebel was one of the most enjoyable books that I have read recently. Layla Hagen is a must-read author for me. She definitely did not disappoint her readers with The Rebel and has once again delivered an incredible story filled with everything that I love in sizzling romance stories. Who does not love hot sexy men, who make you swoon, strong females, loving families, and friends, who always support one another, and wonderful characters? I love the LeBlanc siblings. The Rebel is a workplace romance love story between billionaire Anthony LeBlanc, runs the music venues of The Orleans Conglomerate and his newly hired assistant Daisy Evanston. Daisy was offered a position as a senior marketing manager at a well-known brand of whiskey, but a hiring freeze eliminated the position. Needing a new job, Daisy interviewed and accepted the offer as Anthony’s assistant. Anthony and Daisy initially meet in Coffee & Bites and flirt with each other. Anthony is surprised to learn that Daisy is his new assistant, six prior assistants have quit during the year because of how Anthony treated them. In the past Anthony had a relationship with his assistant that blew up in his face and he does not want to repeat the mistake. On day one, Daisy informs Antony that once a senior marketing manager position becomes available, she will be leaving the position. Anthony is immediately captivated with Daisy when they meet at the coffee shop and when she shows up as his office. Anthony tries to avoid his attraction to Daisy. Things heat up between Daisy and Anthony as they spend time working together at the music venues. I love how Anthony has different flavors of coffee delivered daily to Daisy. Once again Isabeau and Celine create a fragrance just for Daisy even though they hinted about creating an antidote with freesia. I love the chemistry between Daisy and Anthony. Conversation between Daisy and Anthony flows so easily, with innuendos and playful banter, and Anthony constantly flirting with Daisy. I love how Daisy shares with Anthony her upbringing on a ranch in South Dakota and Anthony tells Daisy what happened with his former assistant. I love Daisy and Anthony’s love story, and all the plot twist that threaten their relationship. I love the changes that Anthony and Daisy make in their lives to have a life with one another. My favorite part is Anthony’s proposal and how he incorporated Daisy’s love for coffee into her proposal. Another favorite part is the epilogue that is told from Anthony’s perspective, it is the perfect ending of their love story. I especially love the surprise that was revealed. Layla Hagen always manages to create the "perfect" heroine, who is a strong woman on her own, to balance out the sexy, swoon worthy men. I am not sure how she does it, but Layla Hagen has once again given her readers another amazing book. She has once again proven that she is an amazing storyteller and continues to be one of my favorite authors to read. I really enjoy how she writes her stories in the first person from the perspective of the main characters. I love knowing what the main characters are thinking and feeling. Layla Hagen creates such wonderful and memorable characters and has once again done this in The Rebel. I love Daisy and Anthony’s story and the descriptions of the New Orleans settings. I love the characters and the family dynamic in The Rebel, the characters feel like family and friends. I love Anthony’s relationship with his niece, Bella. I enjoy all the interactions among the LeBlanc siblings and their significant others; it feels like real family love and makes me laugh at their teasing. I loved catching up with the other characters in the series. I love Isabeau and Celine and the fragrance that they created for Daisy which included their secret additive, lilac and how Daisy loved the fragrance. This page turner is filled with bittersweet and poignant moments, as well as the unexpected plot twists and surprises that I have come to love and expect in a Layla Hagen love story. The Rebel was a wonderful love story. I cannot wait to read Beckett’s love story, the final book in the series. Highly recommend this incredible love story. Received an advanced copy from the author.
Another LeBlanc book come and gone. I keep thinking the next book is the last and I thought this one would be it. I completely didn’t think about Beckett and don’t recall him getting mentioned too often but maybe there’s been too many books and they are all starting to blend together, plus the gaps between each story. I have to say, the description for this book is misleading. I was under the impression that Anthony was going to give Daisy the cold shoulder the majority of the book, or at least a portion of it. He only kept up that facade for one scene and then he was back to the friendly, flirty, fun and laid back Anthony. The description also gave me the idea that Daisy would be more hesitant with Anthony and unsure of him. I was ready for another fight and bantering between the two of them because that’s what I’m used to. Imagine my surprise when they click, get along and also don’t argue with each other, shared secrets and admitted their attraction. From the get go, they each didn’t feel any reason to be guarded with each other or closed off. Maybe with Anthony he felt that way at first because of his knee jerk reaction when he realizes his attraction to Daisy. It didn’t take long either for him to loosen up once the whole awkwardness of their first encounter goes away when they realize who they are to each other and there is no reason to close up. The meet cute was sweet and really set the stage for the book. The only reason I’m giving this a 4 is because I wish a little bit more had happened, drama or even with Daisy and Anthony’s relationship. A rendezvous in the office, exotic trip or even an argument but I think it’s better if there isn’t one. It saves the heartbreak, but I would have wanted some push back from Anthony, or even Daisy, maybe not a good portion of the book but moments here and there. At this point, I shouldn’t be surprised with this series. I should know that they don’t beat around the bush, or mess around with emotion, desire and feelings. They just dive right in and get to the good stuff. I don’t know why I didn’t go into this book just thinking that but maybe it was a good thing I didn’t because I feel like I would have been bored if that was the case. Maybe the description drew me in and had me thinking something else on purpose but then to actually write it differently to a degree, now that was a nice touch. You really feel the chemistry with Daisy and Anthony. Sure it wasn’t as steamy or intense as other books, but you get the passion and tenderness. This was another easy read and smooth storytelling, it’s been one of the more fun series I’ve read. Now that I’m sure Beckett’s book will be the last, I’m bittersweet with this series ending. I’ve enjoyed it, even though most of them stayed at a consistent rating of 4. I think maybe there was one book in there that got a more lower rating but love where these books ended up going. It’s nice to write a shorter review for once because with this series there is no analyzing. What we read is what we get and there’s no hidden meanings or mystery to figure out. There is no motive or power play here, or even hidden agenda. It’s just about a family who loves hard, is willing to drop everything and help out those who need it and don’t shy away from commitment and love when they meet the one. Plus, the family is on good terms with each other and very close. They always show up when someone needs them and the loyalty and deep love they feel for each other doesn’t falter.
Series: Book 5, Leblanc Brothers - Anthony and Daisy Release date: 09-24-25 Format Read/Collected: Unabridged Audiobook (via the Bookfunnel app) Length: 7 hrs and 23 mins Publisher: Kemah Bay Marketing, LLC Cover design gush: I love that a human male is depicted. Not featuring his face is a perfect "fill-in-the-image" design choice. This avoids the pesky duplicate male model face problem that many romance authors were battling with before they chose to switch to animated or illustrated covers in hopes of getting a spot on the traditional bookseller's shelves. I'm not a fan of the illustrated covers with cartoon like people, but I understand the necessity of using them. So, this old school male model image works for me and is visually more my cup of tea.
Story ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Author Layla Hagen is so adept at writing sibling romance series. This is the love story of Anthony Leblanc, the 5th Leblanc brother to met his romantic match. Anthony's meet-cute with Daisy at a cafe becomes a non-starter when they discover that she's now his temporary assistant. And, Daisy is damn good at her job but even better at making Anthony want to break his no fraternization policy. His last mistake came back to bite him on the metaphorical butt, and he was determined not to make the same mistake again. But, attraction and soul connection can be delightfully unpredictable and irresistible as it turns our for Anthony and Daisy who ultimately give in and embark on a personal relationship.
My favorite aspect of their reluctant office romance was the trip to Daisy's parental home and how Anthony secretly helped Daisy's mom hire and organize additional help while her dad recovered. Daisy also fit in seamlessly with his family, which gave her even more incentive to remain in New Orleans instead of permanently moving back home to help her parents on their farm.
Performances by: Robert Hatchet ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and Megan Wicks ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The audiobook narrators Robert Hatchet and Megan Wicks are new-to-me vocal actors. They were good individually overall, and together their performances made for a very quick and easy read.
Final thoughts: Would I recommend it? Yes, I definitely recommend Anthony's love story with Daisy. It's a must-read in the Leblanc brothers series, especially if you're a fan of siblings finding love within a similar timeframe.
The Rebel The Leblanc Brothers By: Layla Hagen Narrated by: Robert Hatchet, Megan Wicks
Layla Hagen pens another fabulous novel, a heartwarming workplace romance, and no matter what she writes, it always feels like you are coming home. It is all so wonderful, the characters, the family dynamics, the camaraderie amongst siblings, and the respect for their parents and grandparents and yes it all warms your heart. Each book in the series features a different LeBlanc brother, and their stories stand on their own, this fifth book is Anthony and Daisy’s story. Anthony may be a nice guy, but he is difficult to work for, never having a personal assistant for long, and his reputation to work for makes it difficult to fill the position. Daisy, originally from North Dakota, went to school in New Orleans and, with a job lined up and a new apartment, is staying there. Except she gets a call that the job is no longer available because of a hiring freeze, desperate for any job, she takes a job as a personal assistant to a CEO. Neither knowing who the other is, Anthony and Daisy meet before going into the office and plan to see each other again, not expecting it to be so soon. Anthony has rules for and with his personal assistants, but with Daisy he is finding it difficult to follow those rules. There are so many things to love about this multi-layered story, starting with the writing, plot and world building, which are fantastic, as are the character growth and development. The story is low in angst and has the perfect balance of drama, witty dialogue, charming and heartwarming moments, and a beautiful and swoon-worthy romance. Shout out to the amazing side and secondary characters too, including the meddling grandmothers, and adorable niece, all scene stealers. Layla Hagen, thank you for another fabulous story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
🎧📚🎧 Robert Hatchet and Megan Wicks are a fantastic pairing, and they did an amazing job bringing these characters to life, giving each a voice that was fitting. I loved how they took each role and owned it, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. Both nailed it in the two lead roles, grasping every aspect of their personalities, and were just as amazing performing the roles of the side and secondary characters too, regardless of their age. They set the ideal tone for the story, handled the witty dialogue effortlessly and conveyed all the characters’ emotions in their performance, have you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to, and their captivating performance rivets you to the story.
I’ve said it before: when I’m in the mood for a low-angst, spicy read, Layla Hagen is my go-to author. I genuinely enjoy her writing style. The Rebel, book ten in her LeBlanc Brothers series, was unfortunately let down by a female main character who read more like a teenager than a twenty-seven-year-old woman.
Anthony is the fifth LeBlanc brother to get struck by Cupid’s bow. While grabbing coffee at a local shop, he meets a beautiful woman he’s instantly drawn to. They flirt but don’t exchange names—though she does give him her number. Later that same day, Anthony walks into his office to meet his new assistant, only to discover it’s the same woman from the coffee shop: Daisy. Anthony, however, has a hard-and-fast rule—he doesn’t date his assistants, a boundary rooted in past experience. Daisy, meanwhile, is only working the job temporarily. She’s seeking a position in marketing but needs the paycheck the assistant role provides. Anthony initially tries to keep his distance, but the attraction proves too strong to ignore.
Like the other LeBlanc brothers before him, I liked Anthony. His possessiveness, alpha tendencies, and devotion to his family were all appealing. Daisy, however, was a different story. I’m used to the author’s FMCs being a bit too sweet or bland, but Daisy took it a step further. In my view, she was too compliant, too passive, too willing to go along with whatever was asked of her. Additionally, her actions often contradicted her thoughts. For example, she insists she won’t date her boss, yet she calls or texts him because she misses seeing him at work. She behaved as though she had no autonomy in the relationship.
Anthony made all the decisions—not because he was controlling, but because Daisy acted like she had no say in where things were headed. One moment that stood out was when Anthony declared he was her boyfriend. Although she was surprised, she “beamed.” Then, on what might have been their second or third date, she was giddy simply because “she was going on a date with Anthony LeBlanc.” I mean, seriously, what grown woman reacts like that? I’m sorry, but Daisy’s character just didn’t work for me.
The family interactions were warm and familiar, and the story itself was fine, but Daisy’s lack of agency dulled the emotional impact. Compared to other books in the series, this one also felt noticeably lighter on spice, which made the romance feel somewhat boring.
The Rebel marks the fifth book in Layla Hagen’s beloved LeBlanc Brothers series, and this time, it’s Anthony’s turn in the spotlight. As one of the two remaining unattached brothers, Anthony is known for being brilliant, successful....and nearly impossible to work for. After a string of assistants quit, it’s clear he needs someone who can handle his gruff exterior. Until Daisy, who moves to New Orleans chasing a dream job in marketing, only to have it vanish due to a hiring freeze. Desperate to stay afloat, she unexpectedly lands a temporary role as Anthony’s assistant. But their story doesn’t begin in the office. They first cross paths at a local coffee shop, sharing an instant spark that makes their professional reunion even more complicated.
Determined to keep things strictly business, both try to resist the magnetic pull between them, but their chemistry is undeniable. Anthony, who once vowed to keep his heart guarded, finds himself drawn to Daisy in ways he never expected. Despite his best efforts, even enlisting the grandmothers in a hilarious attempt to break the so-called "spell of Lilac," he can’t help falling for her.
Every interaction is charged with tension, attraction, and genuine connection. Watching their relationship unfold is an absolute delight; they’re sweet, sexy, and impossible not to root for.
I just love the LeBlanc-Broussard family. Their fierce loyalty, affection, and playful dynamics add so much heart to the story. Layla Hagen does a beautiful job weaving in family moments that feel both real and comforting.
The audio with dual narration by Megan Wicks and Robert Hachett is great. Their performances bring the characters to life effortlessly, making the listening experience immersive and addictive. Their voices truly complement the story’s tone and they have great vocal chemistry.
This book delivers everything you’d want in a workplace romance: sizzling chemistry, heartwarming family ties, and plenty of emotional depth. And with that final tease for Beckett’s story? One brother left, and it’s shaping up to be unforgettable.
There's something wonky going on with the editions available to review, but I'm reposting my review here for the audiobook version.
Minor spoilers alert!

The Rebel Leblanc brothers #5 Layla Hagen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Anthony Leblanc – 1 rule, no dating in the workplace, been there, did that, ended badly! He is a rebel ceo, excellent at his job, sexy and pretty much gets what he wants in life and business. Except if you ask his earlier PA’s, there is not so much love there. Who would have thought a simple trip to his coffee shop, a stunning woman and a little harmless flirting would change his world.
When Daisy applied and was offered her dream job in New Orleans, she splurges for a great apartment in the Quarter and is devastated when it all falls through. She now finds herself taking in a PA role for a CEO, not quite what she moves for, but it will pay the bills. Stopping coffee on her first day she is surprised by a handsome man flirting with her. Not normally what she does that gives her number and heads off for her first day. Totally unaware that that handsome stranger is indeed her new boss and a complete jackass. How does one man go from being flirty and fun to being Kurt and downright rude?
As Daisy and Anthony attempt to work together it is more than obvious that the chemistry is going to take over any sort of business relationship. The pair attempt a business relationship but it’s obvious in every glance, smirk and touch they’re playing with fire. When Daisy has to return hime after her father has an accident, Anthony is that made very aware that he cannot live without Daisy in his world. knowing it’s quick, he’s very aware that Daisy is his “meant to be”, throwing everything at it Anthony supports Daisy until they return back to New Orleans. It’s not long before really takes over. these two are just the cutest couple.
This is Anthony’s book, one of the remaining brothers left to fall to the Lilac spell. Anthony meets Daisy at his local coffee shop. He does what Anthony does best and flirts. There is instant chemistry between them. Daisy does what she normally doesn’t do and flirts back. They exchange numbers and part ways. Anthony is, as the title says, the “rebel.” He has a hard time keeping assistants, and can you guess what happens? Yes, you guessed it, Daisy needs a job because the job she came to New Orleans fell through. When they see each other, and Anthony realizes she is his new assistant and he cannot flirt or have more, he becomes miserable, and Daisy cannot understand the change. The chemistry continues, and it is harder to work together and ignore it. They finally give in but decide it will only be a weekend thing. That doesn’t last long. Then the grandmothers get wind of it and see the chemistry, and out comes the Lilac. Anthony refuses to believe that the lily has anything to do with it. Their connection continues to grow until they cannot fight it anymore. Anthony realizes that there is something between them, and he wants more. Daisy is afraid to admit that there is anything because she doesn’t want to get hurt. The humor throughout the book, as they try to fight it, then give in but deny it until they finally give in and don’t want to be apart, was refreshing. I really enjoyed the banter between the brothers, and I love the grandmothers! I am looking forward to the next book, especially after the sneak peek you left at the end. Although this is a stand-alone, I strongly recommend that you start at book one because they all interact with each other, and it is a better read to know all the characters.
Thanks, Layla and @mustloveaudio for the ALC. Oh swoony billionaires! Anthony LeBlanc is in a pickle. He needs an assistant pronto. However, for "reasons", he's developed a reputation and no one wants to work for him and there is a revolving door of assistants in his office. All his assistants are sure he hates them. So, the HR department calls in the big guns - a recruiter. Daisy is in even a bigger pickle. She relocated to New Orleans for her new job, but before the contracts are signed, the firm goes on a 'hire freeze' and she finds herself jobless. There are no jobs available at the moment suited for her, but her situation can become dire very soon. So, even though she's overqualified, she takes the job as assistant to Anthony LeBlanc. Who knows? This may be a foot in the door to work for the family's empire in a more suitable position. First day, she hyped and goes get a coffee before work. A handsome, charming man chats her up. Delightful flirting. The day is starting well. Until her new boss opens the door to the office and ...oh crap. It's the charming man from the coffee shop. She just flirted with her boss... Narrated dual style by Megan Wicks and Robert Hatchet, this is everything I wanted. Megan is great as always as the dedicated and driven Daisy who can't seem to catch a break. Robert is perfect as the easy going, favorite uncle, charming billionaire. We have meddling grandmas (who seem to have some 'magical' powers that they use in bespoke perfumes), fishing loving grandpas, sweet nieces, supporting parents, a taste of New Orleans with a a splash of North Dakota. Though #5 in a series, you have no problem following along. And I can't wait to find out what happens to the next brother in the series! Content notes: mentions of a farming accident LeBlanc Brothers | Meet Cute | Forced Proximity | Workplace Romance | Billionaire
Layla Hagen has his another one out the park! Anthony Lablanc, and Daisy's story was heat from their first meeting. A good while back Anthony had a one night stand with his assistant, and she threatened to sue him if he didn't continue to see her. Ever since, he's been cold, distant, and downright hard on his assistants. He has had seven so far this year, and has gotten a reputation that precedes him. When yet again another assistant quits, they can't find anyone who will apply. Daisy's moved from Chicago to accept a senior marketing job with a company in New Orleans, except two weeks before she's to start the job, the company implements a hiring freeze. The head hunter tells her she can take a position as an assistant until something else better comes along. On her way to her first day on the job, she stops into a local coffee shop. Anthony stopped by to get a coffee before going into the office, but stops dead in his tracks when he spots the beautiful woman with long blonde hair. He starts flirting with her, and unlike Daisy, she flirts back too. He even gets her number and they plan to see each other again. Daisy rushes off to her new job, with a smile on her face , because things are looking up. She gets to her new job, and HR gets her set up. Everything is going splendid, until her new boss walks in to meet her. They are both stunned. These two agree to be professional about the entire situation and just forget it happened. Things definitely don't go as planned. I really enjoyed reading their story, and I highly recommend reading this book and the entire series! Thank you so much Layla Hagen for all the wonderful stories you write!
The Rebel by Layla Hagen is a delightful, high-heat addition to the LeBlanc brothers series. Set against the vibrant backdrop of New Orleans, this story delivers the perfect blend of workplace tension, "forbidden" tropes, and heartfelt family dynamics.
The Highlights The "Rule-Breaker" Dynamic: Anthony LeBlanc is the quintessential "fun" brother, but I loved seeing his intense, determined side as a CEO. His strict "no assistants" rule—born out of a messy past—creates a delicious slow-burn tension once Daisy enters the picture.
The Meet-Cute: The opening at the coffee shop was gold. Starting their dynamic with an accidental flirtation made the transition to "cold boss/temp assistant" even more entertaining. You can feel the frustration as Anthony tries (and fails) to keep his distance.
The Chemistry: When the ice finally breaks, it melts. The physical attraction between Anthony and Daisy is explosive, and Hagen doesn't hold back on the steam.
Heart and Heroism: What elevated this for me was Anthony’s reaction when Daisy’s family needed help. Seeing the "laid-back rebel" step up and take charge showed the true depth of his character. It wasn't just about the physical pull; it was about him realizing he couldn't let her go.
Final Thoughts While the "boss/assistant" trope is a romance staple, Hagen freshens it up with the unique New Orleans setting and Anthony’s magnetic personality. If you enjoy a hero who is incredibly persistent and a heroine who can give back just as much sass as she gets, this is a must-read. It’s a fast-paced, feel-good story that leaves you wanting to see which LeBlanc brother falls next.
It was not cool on Mrs Hagen's part to leave us with that ending and not have Beckett's book already out. His book could either be the best or the worst in the series, but I have faith when it comes to this author. As long as he doesn't have a weird pairing like "My lady is my ex's sister/cousin/w.e." we will be fine.
Now, about this book, I have a tiny complaint. You see, Anthony, was a player in the past and it was brought up way too often for my liking. Ok, he is the rebel of the family, but that doesn't mean that we have to have this past thrown in our faces time and again. The book had the potential of being the cutest addition to the series, considering that Anthony is always bringing coffee and chocolate to Daisy to try and he takes care of her even when she doesn't know she needs it. Daisy on the other hand, was a little bland and didn't have a strong personality. She wasn't feisty and she wasn't a soft motherlike character so I have no category to put her in other than "Not bad but not great either". Something was missing when it came to her.
On the other hand, I love love love the grandmothers and they are always a bright spot in the books. I hope we will see more of them in the final book. The lilac is a part of the series that intrigues me and a big part of a story can be based on that, which is something I am hoping to see. I love the family in general, but once again, I end another book by Layla Hagen and I find myself wishing that it would have a little more angst and a little fighting or edginess. Maybe a third act breakup wouldn't be the worst idea.
The Rebel The Leblanc Brothers 5 By Layla Hagen Narrated by Megan Wicks, Robert Hatchet
The rebel brother...that is what he is. Anthony is in trouble. He is going through assistants like water stating he is impossible to work for. Daisy has come to NOLA to start her new job only to find out there is a hiring freeze. Getting the assistant position is luck for the time being, especially with her new boss's reputation. But what these two don't realize is the stars are aligning. Or the lilacs are fragrant! This story is starts with a grumpy man, with a closed heart and slowly, it warms. Daisy is a breath of fresh air, she's sunshine to his grumpy and I love how she is close with her parents even though she is far away from them. And the Leblanc brothers are just a hoot! The ribbing and the concern they have for Anthony is exactly what I love about family. Add in the grandfathers and grandmothers and all the sage advice is there for the taking. And their perfume for the smelling. Loved this installment and cannot wait for the next. It's sure to be a light in my day as this one was.
Robert Hatchet, the voice is smooth as the hot chocolate Anthony buys for Daisy. He is so good at the broody man, and I love how he turns Anthony around using the nuances in his voice. Megan Wicks brings Daisy in with the confident woman she is. As she realizes her feelings, Wicks easily let me feel the changes and fall with her. Loved their performance.
Just when you think Layla can't match or outdo her last Leblanc brother, she throws us Anthony! And boy will he ever have you swooning! Add in Daisy, you will absolutely love her! Throw in our infamous not so little Bella, and you have yet another 5 star story here! Anthony can't keep an assistant. It's getting harder and harder to get one. When the head of HR starts using a employment agency to find his replacement, the search is on. Meanwhile, he heads to get coffee, his new assistant is starting today, and in there he's meets the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, and even asks for her number. When he gets to the office, well damn, there is the beauty that he had just met, what are the chances. Daisy moved to New Orleans for school, and now a new job, but unfortunately the job falls through, so she asks the employment company to find her something else in the mean time, and gets the job listing for an assistant, and she figures, I can do this till something in the marketing field opens up. After meeting the handsome gentleman in the coffee shop, she never in her wildest dreams thought it would be her new boss. These two can't hide their attraction to each other. They do try hard, but having to spend so much time together, certainly makes this hard. And when they combust, hold on to your kindle, it's going to be amazing! I loved this story so much, and this series! Layla has a way with her words that pull you in and don't let you go! Grab this one asap!
⭐⭐⭐⭐ loved it! great chemistry and characters, though a few moments didn’t fully hit. still highly recommend. 🌶️🌶️: mild spice, around 2 to 4 scenes, still tame sex scenes with a slight touch of kink and still romance focused
anthony leblanc, the fun and laid back leblanc brother and rebel ceo in new orleans, prides himself on success and a strict rule never to get involved with his assistants after a bad experience, but when he spots daisy at a coffee shop and later discovers she is his new temp his flirtation becomes obsession, his cold distance falters, and when her family needs help he takes charge, blurring every line until he will do whatever it takes to keep her.
i really enjoyed this, it was my first layla hagen book and will definitely be diving into her past books. the story was fun and breezy, the tension and chemistry between daisy and anthony kept me hooked, and the romance felt natural and satisfying. the humour and banter had me smiling the whole time and the characters were easy to root for. overall it was a lighthearted and enjoyable read that left me wanting more from this series.
the audio was great with dual narration by megan wickd and robert hackett, their voices made it easy to get pulled into the story and the pacing felt perfect. thank you mla and layla for the early copy.
tropes: ceo x assistant, forced proximity, workplace, alphahole triggers: blackmail, parental injury
The Rebel by Layla Hagen is the 5th book in LH The Leblanc Brothers, but it can be read as a standalone.
I love going back to Nola. ( I’m from Nola)🤣🤣Well, I love visiting the Leblanc Brothers. These men, are so funny, full of banter. The whole family is just a chefs kiss, especially the grandma’s. Little Bella is 10 now. I have loved reading her and watching her grow up through out these books.
Anthony Leblanc is the CEO of the music venues for The New Orleans Conglomerate. He was a complex man, an alpha, protective, jaded from his past. To most he was a Teddy Bear but to his personal assistants not so much. Leave it to Daisy Evanston to come in to shake things up. A casual encounter, a failed job offer and then with a sprinkle of magic she’s now become his personal assistant. The banter, sass, instalust, will they, won’t they was such a good read in this book. Their push, pull and the way they tried to fight it. (Insert laughter). Of course, LH made us work for it, insert moments of slow burn. Also, he’s a dirty talker (insert Cheshire Cat smile). Anthony’s hang up? His last workplace situation was traumatic, but once he started to let his guard down and open up, he fell hard. I loved the way he stepped up for her, her family and showed her who he truly was. They do have a hurdle or two to get through but I do love their outcome. Great read. I also can’t wait for Beckett’s book that seems like it’s going to be a fun ride.
The book was narrated by Megan Wicks and Robert Hatchett. This is my first narration with the combo and they didn’t disappoint. The audiobook was so easy to listen to and steamy in all the right places.
This latest read from Ms. Hagen is a good read. I did not realize that this was book 5 of a series but it didn't matter since it is written as a true standalone read. I was able to follow along with the different characters without getting lost with who they were at all.
In this new book, Anthony is known for being a hard to work for CEO. He wants things done his way and due to past experience he takes extra caution about not forming any type of relationship with his assistant until he meets Daisy. Daisy is new to NOLA but the job that she moved there for falls through and she then takes a job with Anthony's company while waiting for a job in her field becomes available. The pair have a chance meeting in a coffee shop where their chemistry starts to show only to be later surprised by discovering that they were working together.
This is a well written workplace romance that starts with the meet cute and morphs into a close proximity read. The characters had chemistry at hello and their story moved along well keeping me interested in the outcome from the start.
I have read books of Ms. Hagen in the past and it has been a while since I have read one of her books and where previously admitted that I am late to this series, I enjoyed it just the same. I would recommend this book to others and will have to investigate the other books of this series for myself.
✨𝒯𝒽ℴ𝓊𝑔𝒽𝓉𝓈✨ The Rebel is book 5 in the 𝗟𝗲𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀, it can be read as a standalone novel. The story centers around Daisy, who takes on the role of assistant to the infamous Antony LeBlanc, known for consistently firing his assistants. Despite her overqualification, Daisy accepts the position to stay afloat. Little did she know that the charming man she flirted with at the coffee shop would turn out to be her new boss.
𝗔𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 Anthony attempts to maintain a professional distance, he finds himself unable to resist Daisy's charm from the moment they meet. Their relationship develops very organically, leading to a breezy listen.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 audio version features a dual narration by 𝗠𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝗪𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗱 and 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗛𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘁𝘁, it was very easy to get pulled into the story. Their voices are incredible, their transitions smooth, and the pacing perfect. Overall, if you enjoy workplace romance and fun family dynamics, you’ll definitely want to listen to 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗹!
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 you to 𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻 and 𝗠𝗟𝗔 for this early audio copy. All thoughts shared here are my own.
Holy cow! Ms. Hagen knocked this one out of the park. Anthony LeBlanc, goes through assistants like candy. Must be he’s hard to get along with or the one time he got involved with one it came back to bite him. Either way his latest assistant quit and he told Dorothy, the head of HR to find him one asap. Along comes Daisy, who just moved to New Orleans for a senior marketing director job. After she signs a lease and moves in to her apartment she finds out the company she had a job with has decided to downsize. She knows she has to find another job and soon, doing anything until she can find one in marketing. Her recruiter tells her about the assistant job and you guessed it, she was the only applicant and got the job. Earlier in the morning on her first day she had a little meet/cute with Anthony in a coffee shop. He eventually got her number, which she had never done. You can imagine the look from Anthony when he walked into his office and there sat Daisy on the couch. the man had NO willpower around her. And oh, there is the lilac perfume his grandmothers made for her. You’ll have to read this one to find out about that. You’ll be glad you read this book. All of her stories are amazing!
- workplace romance (boss x assistant) - he falls first - no third-act breakup - 🌶️🌶️.5/5 - dual pov - dual narration by Megan Wicks and Robert Hatchet
Anthony Leblanc has an assistant problem… in that he can’t seem to keep one. That all changes with Daisy. From the start, there’s an instant spark. They try to keep things strictly professional, but their connection turns into something more after hours.
Anthony is the definition of a boy obsessed, and honestly, we love him for it. He spoils Daisy with daily coffee and hot chocolate runs but also shows up when it matters most, especially when a family emergency pulls them back home. The way he cares for her and her family is swoonworthy.
The vibrant New Orleans setting adds so much character to the story. I also love spending time with the warm, chaotic, lovable Leblanc family. And that teaser for Beckett’s book? Cruel but brilliant!
The audiobook is just as good as you’d hope. Megan Wicks’s soothing narration pairs perfectly with Robert Hatchet, who was truly made to voice a boy-obsessed boss.
If you’re after a low-angst and fast-paced workplace romance with a supportive cast and a setting that feels alive, The Rebel is the one to pick up.
