Tom Slemen is a Liverpool writer, columnist and broadcaster, known foremostly as the author of the best-selling Haunted Liverpool series of books which document paranormal incidents and often unsolved or unusual crimes in his home town of Liverpool, past and present. --from the author's website
A selection of good, fun, and very peculiar paranormal stories. A far cry from many similar books which just rehash stories I've heard over and over again. I'm certainly going to be reading more by this author.
At first I wanted to give this book a rating of one star, because it was so slow of a read. However as I read more and more it began to pick up the pace. The author, Tom Slemen, seemed to take forever to reach the point he was making. The there was the style of his writing that just bugged me to no end. I mean he seemed to be all over the place in the events he was chronicling. The one thing I did come away with was that Liverpool, England is or weird own. I mean they have all is a of paranormal things going on there. Since I like reading about paranormal events and this book had plenty I went with a 5 star rating just wish the author had be a little less verbose.
Without a shadow of any ghost of doubt, this collection of real-life paranormal stories is the most frightening I've ever read.
I had to read this book in daylight. I knew this fact from the very first chapter, subsequent chapters reinforced this choice.
I read a chapter a day while waiting for my son to finish work. Sometimes I was waiting for an hour and since the clocks went back last Sunday, the isolated country road I was parked on got darker and darker, just like the stories really!
Flippin 'eck, Tom Slemen is the man you would want to get chatting to at the pub, on the bus, the train, in a taxi etc...just don't go home alone!
I have previously enjoyed Tom Slemen`s Haunted Liverpool series. Like Haunted Liverpool, Tales of the Weird is a fascinating collection of different stories you can dip and in out of.
Like most selection of stories some I enjoyed, others I didn't. I don't how many stories were urban myths but they where certainly entertaining.
My favourite tales were
The secret zoo French Toast Reaper Reports Alter Egos The Orgisher Tales of the Evil Eye A woman of many parts.
It was a shame an American reader was used. His British accent was not convincing, especially for a book based in Liverpool.
A generous collection of amazingly weird tales that will entertain both believers and skeptics alike. A very enjoyable read that's extremely difficult to put down.
This is the first edition of the Tales of the Weird series by author Tom Slemen. His Haunted Liverpool series is not to be missed and this collection is sure to please. Many a strange and weird tales abound here, from sweet an sentimental to strange to terrifying. For readers of multiple books, these are tales you've not heard elsewhere. I read this book using Immersion Reading, while listening to the audiobook. The narrator was American and didn't fit the British time of the book. It sounded like rote narration, which did detract from the story some. I am pleased to see the author's books being added to audible, as I love listening as well as reading. A must read for paranormal fans. Tom Slemen's books are a higher caliber of quality.
