After a public and humiliating breakup, Veronica Gates has sworn that she's done with love. Now, she's focused on her career as a professional mermaid performer at this high-end ocean-themed restaurant, social media gigs, private events, and her online store she is keeping herself busy to feel the sting of loneliness or the reminder of her recent heartbreak.

But, her best friend Alice is tired of her best friend either working or being holed up in their shared apartment. So, as a surprise, she manages to snag them tickets to see Veronica's favourite rock band Scarlet Failure – and in that one night Veronica's life changes forever.

Scarlet Failure's brooding bass player Sully Graham has built so many walls around himself that he hasn't let anyone over. He's cynical, guarded, and he's used to being misunderstood and he's given up on ever finding anyone that he's drawn to and wants to build a future with. But, then he spots Veronica in the crowd at one of his concerts and he feels a pull to her when he hands her one of his guitar picks, and the pull gets even stronger when they meet after the show. That one night turns into something so much more than either one of them ever expected and neither one of them can ever forget.

And as Sully and Veronica's connection continues to deepen, so do the cracks in the walls that they have each built around their hearts. They both know that falling in love with each other could help to heal their old wounds – or the risk they take could put everything that they've been protecting on the line and they could get hurt all over again.

After Finding You by Brittney Coon. This was the first book by Brittney Coon that I have ever read but I can say with certainty that it is not going to be the last. Within the first few pages of this book I was just engrossed in the story and the characters.

I am going to start by saying that this book had all the elements that I love in a contemporary romance. It was sweet, heartwarming, had just the right amount of spice to it, it had emotional depth that drew you in and kept you hooked, and for me, it had the addition of music, one of my favorite things in the world.

Veronica Gates is trying to live her best life after her ex-boyfriend left her heart shattered when he fake proposed to her in an elaborate setup that was filmed all so he could turn around and dump her and tell her he had been cheating on her. He then made matters worse by trying to destroy her reputation by posting the video online. She didn't take this quietly and ensured the video was taken down by any means necessary.

After that “incident” as Veronica went on to call it, she decided that she was done with dating and she was done with love. She didn't need or have time for either in her life. She was going to focus on her career as a professional mermaid. (I love that career, I mean how cool is that really! I am so jealous of her). Veronica works at a high-end ocean-themed restaurant where she performs with other mermaids and she does meet and greets after the show. She also does social media gigs and along with her Mer-Handler Arthur, she does private events for both private and corporate parties. And her online store also helps to keep her busy and is another source of income for her.

Sully Graham who has had his own heartbreak and trauma in life is just as cold and closed off as Veronica is. But, as the broody bassist for Scarlet Fever, it's harder for him. He has women constantly throwing themselves at him as he's the only single member of the band. But, he keeps the walls tight around him, refusing to let anyone get close to him again.

That is till Veronica's best friend Alice decides that it's time for her to step in and get involved. She manages to snag 2 tickets to Scarlet Fever's local concert and surprises Veronica with them on the night of the concert after work.

They get there early enough that Alice and Veronica are able to get right up against the guard gate that keeps the fans away from the stage and Veronica knows that this is going to be the show of her life. During the show, Sully not only throws her a guitar pick, but he also gets off the stage and hands it to her himself, making Veronica's heart flutter. Then after the concert, she is able to snag one of the set lists, the very one that Sully had been using.

The two girls then go outside and to the back where the band will come out and try to meet the band. First Veronica can meet Charlotte the lead singer and then she meets Sully and from the moment they meet, Sully is different with her than he has been with anyone else.

First he actually smiles at her, then after he signs some stuff for her, he pulls her in for a hug before they do a selfie together (this is something that he's never done before), and then after they take a couple selfies together, Sully takes Veronica's phone and gives her his number, telling her to text him if she wants to get to know him better. (And no, not just in the way of s*x), I mean really get to know each other better.

Veronica considers this when she gets home, throws caution to the wind and ends up in his hotel room for the night. And then she ends up going to Vegas for the weekend with him. You can just feel their chemistry like electricity.

These are two characters who were made for each other and they were a perfect match. Sully being a little bit more controlled and broody was the perfect contrast for the vibrant energy that Veronica gives off. I loved how natural their connection felt. I loved the way that they both took their time in lowering their defences, letting down their walls, and truly opening up to each other.

The only thing that I wish was that there were points where I wish we had gotten dual POVs. Especially around all the Amy and Gigi drama and all the stuff that was happening around him and Gigi and what the truth was, rather than just what Veronica saw. I would have loved to have been in Sully's head so many times in this book and feel and understand why he was so quiet, why he didn't stand up for himself, and what his first thoughts of Veronica were.

But, even without the dual POVs, this book gave us everything we needed and could have ever wanted. The spice, swoon, storyline, plot, sub-plot, it was all done perfectly.

After Finding You took me on an emotional roller coaster ride. But, at the same time, I loved the way that it addressed so many issues that you can deal with in real life and that is something that I love in contemporary romance books.

If you are looking for a sweet, low-angst, mid-tension filled, emotionally filled romance with the right amount of grit to keep the story interesting and to keep you reading.

I loved the ending because while it was perfect in every way possible, it still left the door open for a sequel. While Gigi and Amy were thrown out the door and told that they had nothing to do with the band or in Veronica and Sully's case their lives, that doesn't mean that they have to take it and just walk away. Brittney could always write a 2nd book to this book and have both Amy and Gigi as the villains focused on Veronica's career, Sully, and Scarlet Failure. We will have to wait and see what Brittney decides to do.

I highly recommend this book, it is a great read, with wonderful characters, a great storyline, an amazing plot, and sub-plot.

I enjoyed this book and I look forward to reading more of Brittney Coon's books in the near future.

This was my first Brittney Coon book and I absolutely adored it, my only hard spot was Sully not standing up for himself sooner and not being able to fight fictional characters in real life. Brittney did a wonderful job bringing these characters to life and allowing us to see their story. Veronica and Sully are such a wonderful cup and I’m a little sad their story ends here…. At least for us, I imagine they’re off in the pages of another book living there happily ever after.

ARC Review:
I started and finished this book in one day! It was FILLED with spice and I’m so here for it. Absolutely loved reading this especially reading about Sully, a rockstar who hates the fame.
I was emotional a couple of times and I felt like my heart would explode when there was conflict. Veronica being a self sabotager is honestly relatable. She tries protecting her heart after her recent breakup with her boyfriend and one night turns into emotions she’s never felt before, choices to stay or keep running, risking her heart for a chance to prove she can have a happily ever after. This book kind of reminded me of a movie called “Beyond the Lights”, instead of a mermaid and rockstar it was a singer and a bodyguard.
At times reading about Amy and gigi nearly threw my device, the way they spoke about Veronica infront of her face as if she wasn’t there, the threats gigi made as if we didn’t already know the games she was playing.

My thoughts about Alice are she’s a good friend. I honestly laughed when they went to the club and she was in the cage dancing, I felt bad because it’s like I could feel Veronica’s loneliness, Alice told her to meet her on the dance floor and as she gets to the dance floor Emily tells her that Alice is doing what Alice does best and that’s being the center of attention.

Thoughts about Sully, he’s a freak in the sheets! That man loves him some Veronica. Sometimes while I was reading I’d feel like I was interrupting something between him and Veronica forgetting that their characters in a book lol! Sully is such a great man. I absolutely loved him and how he took care of Veronica, my favorite part was him telling her to have a real conversation with her mom.

There were moments I could feel what Veronica was feeling like especially when she was talking to her mom having a conversation about her career.
What I loved the most about this book was towards the end the band stood up for Sully and Veronica so they could be happy. I was a bit sad like my heart was shredding to pieces when things were so good all you can think about is what bad thing will happen next.

🧜‍♀️🎸 4-STAR ARC REVIEW: After Finding You by Brittney Coon 🎸🧜‍♀️
📅 Releasing soon!

This was such a cute and heartwarming read, with a dash of spice and just enough emotional depth to keep me hooked. I mean… a professional mermaid heroine?? Veronica Gates is living the dream. Between the sequins, the heartbreak, and the rockstar romance, this book gave me major serotonin. 🐚✨

Sully Graham—the broody bassist with a guarded heart—was the perfect match for Veronica’s vibrant, emotionally resilient energy. Their connection felt natural, and watching both of them slowly lower their defenses was genuinely satisfying. Also, when I realized the MMC’s name was Sully, yes… I immediately pictured the big blue monster from Monsters Inc, and I did giggle. 😅💙

What I would’ve loved? Dual POVs! There were moments—especially during the Gigi and Amy drama—where I needed to be inside Sully’s head to really feel the tension or understand his silence. But even without it, the story still delivered plenty of swoon and heat. The spice? Nicely done. 🔥

This is a sweet, low-angst, emotionally soft romance with just enough grit to keep things interesting. Perfect for anyone who loves:
✔️ Rockstar x Mermaid energy
✔️ Slow-burn tension
✔️ Cinnamon roll heroines
✔️ A little bit of drama, a little bit of steam

TROPES
🧜‍♀️ Rockstar Romance
🧜‍♀️ One Night Stand

Veronica is a professional mermaid building her career. Sully is the bass player of a German band pushing to make it big in the United States. Veronica is a fan of the band, and after she and Sully meet at the stage door, they connect.

I really like how this book goes into Veronica’s career and the opportunities it brings her way. Her parents don’t understand, but it’s nice to see her not let that stop her from pursuing her goals and continuing to build her brand. When juxtaposed with Sully, who is frustrated with his career at the moment and is just going through the emotions, it’s nice to see them both figure out what they want together.

This story is really fast paced, so much so that at times I had to reread sections because I thought I had missed a location change or something similar. While I often hadn’t, it was rooted in the sentence structure and being buried by other details so that it was easily missed. I also felt I had to have a bit of a suspension of disbelief, because often things would happen that ultimately weren’t rooted in anything that came before it, but that’s okay. There were a lot of convenient happenings for plot sake, and that’s fun to read sometimes, but it grew tiresome by the end.

I must admit that it was Veronica’s career as a professional mermaid that drew me to this book. It just intrigued me so much, especially when her love interest is a rockstar, and I find it impossible to bypass rockstar romances. This is a sweet and spicy romance between two people that have all but given up on love and relationships. Thankfully, Veronica has a good friend who refuses to let her wallow in loneliness and depression after her recent breakup. Her purchase of two tickets to see Veronica’s favourite band lead Veronica to meet Sully, the band’s bass player, who has had his own share of relationship betrayals and disappointments. Who knew this meeting would lead to a wonderful love story between the two. Though their story has its twists and setbacks like most do, and even a couple of villains, slowly but surely Veronica and Sully find themselves lowering the guards around their hearts to let love in again.

I am quite happy to recommend this gem of a book.

4.3/5⭐️ 3/5🌶️

Rockstars??? Mermaids??? What could be any better than that???

I always wanted to be one of the lady’s who is a professional mermaid irl & this book definitely gave me just that moment of living my dream. And who doesn’t want to meet their favorite band and live a fairytale with their favorite band mate???

This book was not only an emotional ride but had so many issues addressed of how hard life can be for anyone. The story of romance was one of those sweet, fast paced love stories where you root for them the whole time. There are some bumps in the road but it adds to all the excitement , whats a few Aws without a few Boos 🤭

A rockstar and a mermaid are probably one of the most different pairings I have read. I went into this book questioning if I could like this, but I couldn’t put it down! I loved Sully and Veronica!

Sully and Veronica were both burned by love before and thought they were only starting with a one night stand. Sully wanted her to travel to Vegas and continue that one night. They continue to see each other but face many challenges of a rock start lifestyle and PR.

I loved the characters and how they continued to fight for one another! This was a great story. Check this out! You won’t be disappointed!!!

Sully and Veronica
I wanna start off by saying that this was a really good story. I love a good building up of confidence story that has its ups and downs. Sully is the bass guitarist of the band Scarlet Failure. Veronica had Ben humiliated by her ex and gave up on men. Her best friend wanted to make her friend to go out and have fun and took her to see Scarlet Failure her favorite band. When they start to get to know each other and like what they’re seeing, will they fall in love or will her past and his career get in the way and make them realize they’re on two different paths?

OMG, This was a fun, yet emotional read!

I loved this read. Loved how Veronica is a professional mermaid and takes pride in this fact! Loved how it didn’t matter that Sully is famous and has a great career. Loved that!

Sully is a brooding musician (my favourite type of MMC) and he falls fast and hard for Veronica. I loved the chemistry between the two of them and how  hard they fell for one another.

This was an easy, yet emotional read for me and I read it in one sitting. I loved this rock star read and highly recommend this book!

Veronica is a mermaid, I mean not a real mermaid but she plays a mermaid and works at a restraunt where she swims in a tank for the guests to watch in awe. She is heartbroken after a very embarrassing public break up and she is focused on taking her career to the next level.
Her best friend surprises her with tickets to a concert which is for none other than her favorite rock band Scarlet Failure. Veronica is not only mesmerized but smitten by the bands bass player, Sully.
Sully is a grump and very closed off, typically doesn’t feed into his fame or the attention from females who throw themselves at him. Until he sees Veronica in the crowd and again outside the venue.
He takes a dive into spontaneity and gives her his phone number in hopes that he can see her again.
Veronica is on the fence about it because let’s be real he could basically have anyone. Against her better judgement she texts him and the rest is history. Of course there are some speed bumps along the way.
