While at first this book was giving Pony Pals x Gossip Girl vibes, it quickly felt like high school. I think the characters were supposed to be teens? But then some had more of an “adult” role.
The story felt disconnected, rushed, there were characters who added absolutely nothing to the story line and I do wish the editors picked up on this.
Overall, sadly it was messy and not in a good way

Unbridled by @kellymckain is a contemporary coming-of-age novel is perfect for animal lovers, and readers who want to learn a bit about polo and how stables operate. Spanning just over 260 pages with an epilogue, it includes rivalry between two family run stables, the Langdons and Balfours, complete with three sets of romance filled twists and turns.

I really enjoyed this book and the insight into horses and polo. As someone who also happens to be an Equestrienne, I’ve had the opportunity to watch a few polo matches. It was really exciting to see it on the page with these young characters. Each of the characters had their own voice and personality. I particularly liked Carrie who was considered the most ‘regular’ of them all. Compared to Bex and Carrie who come from wealthy backgrounds. However, things take a turn when Bex finds out her family is broke and spirals into salvaging her image, focusing on materialistic things and using people to maintain her wealthy image.

Bex was the most nuanced character who was rude, but confident. Her actions often made her an unlikeable character – she treated staff with disrespect and was very snobbish. However, she learned from her terrible mistakes and accepted who she was in the end.

An avid horse lover, I liked how Carrie remained who she was and worked hard for the right reasons. She doesn’t make use of people, unlike Bex. Carrie is also spunky is a fast learner – however, her emotions do tend to get the best of her when she’s angry which makes her wholly human. Her love interest, Freddie was a good catch and I understood her conflicting emotions when it came to liking him as her ‘boss’. Their relationship was slow, and steady with some miscommunication tropes thrown in.

The rivalry between the Langdon’s and Balfour’s were the main themes of the book and I liked how research was done into crafting spaces where I could imagine in my mind’s eye. The descriptions of the paddocks, stables and parties were wonderfully written. Especially the Polo games which had my heart pounding.

Luella the final main character has a soft spot for animals and is a dressage rider. I liked the representation and how she treats people with respect and isn’t afraid of voicing her concerns. She takes Carrie under her wing and they become best friends. As for her romance with Kit was cute and I liked how everything worked out in the end.

I absolutely devoured this book. The chemistry is electric, the tension is delicious, and the writing pulls you in from the first chapter. What surprised me most was the emotional depth underneath the spice and drama. The pacing is spot-on, the characters feel real, and the ending left me genuinely happy. I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.

This is what makes me love YA!

I got three stories which felt very story and had a good overlap and I got to watch two separate couples get together!

I loved this so fun and easy to read.

Thank you so much to the publisher for this proof

This was a very cute little story, just maybe a little under developed. There were three POV's and only 260 pages, with multiple storyline. I just think that spending a bit more time with each character would have helped the story feel more full 🙂

I absolutely loved this book and found it hard to put it down, reading it over two days. I became really invested in the characters and was fascinated by the world of horses and Polo. Although this book is aimed at young adults, it would appeal to any age (I’m in my 60’s!).
I highly recommend it.

Such an enjoyable read. An escape into the world of polo with a side serving of romance in what's not to love? A equestrian novel which both teens and adults alike can enjoy.
