"Is this what I want" is the sequel of Is This All There Is?.
You can read it as a standalone but I seriously recommend to read both books because they give you a better understanding of the story, but the choice it's up to you, of course.

After Rick discovered her wife's affair with a former student, Rick and Beth are trying to save their marriage. They see a therapist and they try to spend more time together. But there are some bigger problems in their relationship that need to be resolved. Is their relationship going to make it through all of this??

"There's always something that's not right, something that doesn't exactly fit. And life is about choices. We can't have it all. We have to choose which realities come closest to our fantasies."

I really enjoyed this story. I liked book one and this was even better. It was painful, hard, heartbreaking but some scenes were HOT too ;)

I loved the fact that, in this installment, we could read Rick's pov . It made me understand things better and appreciate him more. Beth got on my nerves in book one but she was better in this.
I didn't know how a book like this could end, I didn't expect things to turn out this way and I have to say, I really loved the development of this story.

One of the things I liked the most of these books is that the story felt so real . I love to read books that let me dream or escape from reality but sometimes it's so good to read a everyday life story.
Relationships are not easy, love isn't always enough. We have to try harder and harder to make a relationship work.
Rick had to understand his wife's needs and he had to let her work it out alone. Beth was a lost woman, he had to let her find herself again , let her understand what she wanted in her life.

The writing was brilliant , it reflected the reality of this story.
These two books have been such a great surprise and I have to thank the author for letting me read her work.

I truly recommend these books to everyone who wants to read a great real story.

Truthfully, this installment is more hard for me to read than book 1 because the female MC shattered all my hopes and stomp down all the benefit of doubt Ive given her. And I cant believe the male MC is the biggest and greatest idiot on the planet. I don't know if the female MC did learned a lesson in her life. She's forever a whore and slut for me (harsh? I dont care). Being in her head in this story doesnt makes sense to me because more and more in every page she got worse, more worse than I can think. And also being inside the head of the male MC -just the same, made me realize how idiotic and stupid he became until that very end (that 90% - up? yuck yuck yuck! Stupid stupid stupid!) . The only reason I give it 3.5 stars is that the author is so wonderful and the way she writes got me! :)

A follow up to "is this all there is" by the same author. Another rambling story about an unimaginative, helpless young mother with no sense of humour. There was no way to feel any empathy for Beth; in every aspect of her life she is such a whiny doormat. I couldn't even finish the book; even in her "therapy" sessions all Beth thinks about is how she looks, how she feels, what she wants. Self absorbed protagonists are usually pretty boring, and Beth is that. Rick Dave, Jill... They're all just flat caricatures of real people.

In the book Is This All There Is? you felt that the marriage that Beth and Rick had was about to fall into tinny little pieces but Rick has stepped up and wants to work things out with Beth.

Beth is like a typical woman. Overworked and feels overused. I think we all go through a time in our lives where we want that spark and fireworks we witnessed when things first start off with your man and now with two kids, jobs and mortgage that spark has fizzled and died. Beth and Rick were so wrapped in the day to day that they lost themselves in it. They lost their individuality and Beth more so than Rick wants that back. She took the wrong way of approaching to find it but it made Rick realize that he needs to give this to Beth.

I really loved seeing Beth grow from this shy frumpy woman to a confident one that knew what she wanted and even tho she hit rock bottom she came back and realized what was true and what was just the glamor of what looks good on paper.

I hope when ppl read this they realize what a powerful book this is and that they feel like Beth made all the right choices, even if they seemed idiotic at times.

This author took a subject so sensitive and realistic and gave it life. I think a lot of ppl will take what they read and know that they arent alone and that life can suck at times but you can dig yourself out of the shit you get yourself buried under.

Cheating in romance has never bothered me but this book is just stupid.

*Spoiler*

The h needs to sleep with the om in order to find out that she wants to be with the husband, and the husband is happy to take her back 'cos the sex was not that good. How's that for a romance???????

"I want to satisfy you so that you’re not tempted again."

Enjoyment quantity :: 7 stars
Literature quality :: 5 stars

" if you don’t like the way I kiss, maybe you should arrange for Dave to give me a lesson."

But these were the things parents did that their kids were never to know or think about. The things parents were supposed to do for each other to keep their love alive, which would in turn keep their family strong. Still, I felt a little dirty and conflicted about who I was supposed to be as a woman, a wife, a mother, a daughter, a professor.

Darn.. this book is the exact answer to my question in book #1. A bit backtracking in several first chapter. So, i think it could be read as a standalone.

Actually, the affair that Beth is not much, isnt it? There was more guilt trip than the guilty act itself.

Wow! A surprise in Jill case. I never ever thought that this book would point to that way. What a surprise!

I couldn’t think straight. There were so many times I wanted to go confront that kid. So many times I fantasized about how good it would feel to punch him right in his pretty little face.
Rick POV! I have a feeling, i am gonna crave for it. And now we have an insight to how actually Rick feeling toward Beth. It is a good move by the way. The reader would be died of boredness of this book is still all about Beth.

But she was my Beth, smart, intense, funny, wild, and unpredictable, and I loved her and wanted her more than ever, flaws and all.
And i was beyond relieved to know that Rick is not always all that loyal to Beth.

Oh okay this one more an Erotic Romance. And no joke! Its so hot! I dont even know Rick could be that naughty.

The big revelation. Such a twist. Unpredictable storyline.

"I thought I had a dark side. But you really have a dark side. You let a slut from work suck your dick and then you went down on her in a closet. And you kept it from me for seven years. Who are you? What’s in there?"

Cryyyyyyy. Sam reaction is the best. And the chapter named so perfectly, Shattered Little World. The composed Sam, cried? Wow! The blaming to Jack thing.

"Just four days before, even after the fiasco in Vegas, he told me he still loved me. Now he was telling Sam that we care about each other. Had the last of his love disappeared in those days?"

Lots quote worthy and lots of learning topic. I am actually learn from Beth’s lecture.

Dave. Omg Dave. Couldnt he be more perfect? And mature? And gentleman? And passionate? And understanding?

A lot of surprise. Really unpredictable. Sometimes just plain out of the box. Never ceased to amaze me.

I love the book #1 because the emotional way its written. Dare to broach a taboo subject, an inappropriate stigma. Tough the book #2 is not as emotional, i love the element of surprises it pop up almost every chapter. The storyline is so unpredictable, leading me to a journey where i could only let myself flowing and enjoying wherever the ride takes me. And always, the surprises is surprise me, even some of it out of the box, like i dont-think-this-book-would-swing-that-way, but actually it did, and evenmore.

"Where were the lines drawn? Were there lines, or did we all fall somewhere on a mental health spectrum that determined how well we could hide our vices and pretend we were fully functional, free of addictions and afflictions?"

Just realize i dont even know all the character last name, except Beth. Its because she is being called as Professor Thomas.

I wonder if Rick and Dave would meet each other. I would be great to read a Dave spinoff. Maybe it could starts with how his POV feeling towards Beth, then proceeding to his own happy ending.

And nice ending to the story.

surprising and unpredictable.
full on life inspiring quotes.

~~~~~~
REVIEW: 4 stars--IS THIS WHAT I WANT is the second installment in Patricia Mann’s series focusing on thirty-five year old Beth Thomas. Beth is a wife, mother, part time college professor and a woman at a cross roads in her life. When a former student, 22 year old Dave, professes his desire for Beth, our heroine steps out of her comfort zone and into an area that is no longer black and white-but considerably many shades of grey.
Told from two alternating first person points of view (Beth and Rick) the premise of book two finds Beth and her husband in therapy-both couples and individually. Beth’s infidelity has caused a riff between she and Rick-one that continues to grow as Rick suspects Beth still harbors feelings for her former student.
The relationship between Rick and Beth is not unlike many couples who have experienced the heartbreak of an affair but in this case Beth’s step outside of her marriage was more of an affair of the heart. While Rick considers his options for the future, Beth considers all options for herself.
IS THIS WHAT I WANT is a storyline that focuses on Beth’s inner turmoil between what she wants and what she knows she should do. Beth is a woman whose marriage has stagnated and she is looking for something different; something new and in this her choices will affect her family and her life. She is a woman whose immaturity reigns supreme throughout book two as she endeavors to experience the life of those around her. The grass always looks greener on the other side-and Beth believes that there is something more-waiting for her on the other side. When a trip to Vegas with Rick turns ugly, Beth’s marriage will suffer irreparable harm.
Patricia Mann writes about a controversial subject where moments of awkwardness and heartbreak make for some disenchanted bedfellows. IS THIS WHAT I WANT looks at the choices made, for good and for bad, and how theses choices affect those that we love. It is a story about one woman, whose relationship with her husband had been sidelined by pregnancy, children and work, and in this she seeks physical and emotional fulfillment from another source.
Is This What I Want? Was written by Patricia Mann and is the sequel to Is This All There Is?
Is This What I Want takes place 4 months after the end of Is This All There Is and Beth is still in a self-discovery process. While the first book was more of a PG-13 rated, I would definitely classify the sequel as saucier. In self-discovery Beth certainly is exploring many different parts of herself.
Beth’s married and personal lives are explored after she has experienced the range of emotions that come after an affair. I love that as a reader we got a more intimate look into the mind of Rick (Beth’s husband). It gave more depth to the story to know his reactions and thoughts to similar events.
Reading the book I mostly just was feeling bad for the low self-confidence that Beth was battling and how she was feeling the need to redefine herself in potentially destructive ways. I commend Rick for his ability to put love before hurt and for Beth to be honest and open and willing to work on something as they learned to grow together as a couple.
Sometimes it was painful to read through some of Beth’s experiences and wanting to have her learn things that weren’t always by experiencing “the hard way.” I enjoyed also seeing the introspection of the lives of some of the married friends within Beth’s lives and how she was justifying behavior according to the friend whose advice matched more with her inner desires.
I give this book 4/5 stars. Overall it was still very eye opening to go through the hard parts of a marriage with Beth and Rick. I didn’t feel quite as connected to Beth as I did in the first book, but I still thoroughly enjoyed the honesty and realism of the story. If you enjoy reading chick lit, fiction, relationship, woman empowering, romance, etc., then this book is for you.
After reading the honest telling of a woman's decision to step outside her marriage, I was eager to see what was in store for Beth Thomas in the sequel. We often hear stories about infidelity, however, rarely are we offered the offender's point of view, especially when the offender is someone many would consider a good, decent person. As with most bad decisions in life, there's not always a simple motive to blame, and Patricia Mann expertly addresses this truth. Beth is a woman who falls victim to believing life is better "out there," but we also learn there are ghosts from her past driving her poor choices. Mann's candid and heart-wrenching portrayal of marriage and family after the unthinkable will at times bring you to your knees. This story isn't for the faint of heart. However, it's written with such frankness and sensitivity, you can't help but be thankful you read it. It brings us all one step closer to realizing we never really know the choices we're capable of, until in another's shoes.
This book was beautifully written and very difficult to put down, more so for me than the first book even.
While I found Beth's desires and choices understandable, relatable, and sympathetic in the first book, there were times during this one when I didn't like her at all. She was always focused on what she didn't have and never satisfied with what she DID have until she didn't have it anymore and then suddenly she wanted it. She was very immature, but yet I had to know what happened and I consistently hoped things would work out for her and Rick! Not liking a character and yet feeling so incredibly vested in her story is a sign of a great book to me!
I only wished there was something positive in the book about marriage and fidelity. I understand that cheating is real and that many people do it but I hoped for at least one couple to represent a happy, healthy relationship and there wasn't one. It was a bit depressing to me!
Looking forward to the next part of the series!
This book takes this story to a whole new level, I loved the first book and could really empathise with Beth.
Whereas in this book I was all for Rick, the decisions he made had to be done but were heartbreaking for all concerned.
When they set out on their anniversary break I had high hopes and was impressed with their mile high antics. Then it all started going so wrong.
I went with the story and embraced each and every twist and turn it delivered.
The part that was inevitable was a HUGE disappointment in more ways than one, I suppose it had to happen that way but I'm sure it left me more frustrated than Beth.
Loved the chapters from Ricks perspective, these contributed to my big change in opinion of him.
Beautiful story which is fantastically written, will definitely be following this author.
A copy of the ePub was provided in exchange for an honest review from the Goodreads group Read It & Reap.
Does Beth even know what she wants? The sequel to Is This All There Is does not disappoint as Beth’s journey continues. This novel explores the possibilities and pressures of life after an affair.
Secrets are revealed that give insight into Beth’s life choices. The author cleverly writes from Beth’s and her husband’s point of view. His voice is equally as important—his feelings and observations give a unique perspective to their story as a couple. Is This What I Want is a fast paced read.
Can a broken relationship be healed? The author explores this question and the many layers of a marriage that has been damaged.
I received this book in exchange for a review. I haven't read the first book.
Beth and Rick have been seeing a counselor trying to save their marriage after Beth had an affair. Beth can't seem to stop thinking about Dave. Then she finds out he is taking her class at college. Rick and Beth both have issues they need to work out. Will their relationship survive all the problems.
I enjoyed the book but parts of it were upsetting. I don't think I could get past my spouse having an affair. When Beth finds out Rick had one too, she feels justified in having hers. I need to read the first book to find out the beginning of the story.
Well after getting through the second book it does get better. Seeing. The characters actually work through everything and see truly the grass is not greener on the other side. Taking the time apart help clarify the for Rick and as well for Beth.
Over all it was good and you could feel the realness of the situation they were facing!
Great read..as I said when reading the first book, not my usual fare but to be honest, I really got into it as it was really well written and I was so routing for the husband and wife to come to a proper understanding of each other. Again, as I said in the first book, my friend is going through something similar so I wanted to understand why this happens to some couples.
Very enjoyable read...
A great cautionary tale!
I enjoyed living vicariously through Beth's bad choices. Many women are bored in their marriage and might be tempted to stray, but this story teaches important lessons about the damage it can cause. You'll relate to Beth and also be glad you're not her!
I was provided a free copy of this book in exchange for a review - in fact, the author was kind enough to also include a copy of the first book in the series so this review actually covers both books.
From time to time I find myself completely engrossed in reading a book in which I find I really don't like one or both of the primary characters but the book is so well written that I can't put it down. This is a great example of that. I read the two books in two days...staying up much later than I should have to finish the first one...and instead of turning out the light and going to sleep I jumped right into the second book. A clear indication of a captivating read.
This is the story of Beth and Rick's marriage and the challenge they are facing now 10 years in and overwhelmed with kids, work, extended family issues, etc. I struggled to find much, if any, sympathy for Beth. She's very self absorbed (despite the fact that she's obsessive about controlling every moment of her children's lives) and seems to always be making note of what she presumes to be the greener grass on everyone else's side. She is in a particularly low place when a girlfriend talks her into a girls night out. Beth (who teaches part time at the local university) finds herself running into and eventually having drinks with some former students - one in particular who admits to always having had a crush on her. Beth is completely caught up in the attention and her own attraction to Dave and by the end of the evening, a drunk Beth shares a scorching kiss before coming to her senses and stopping things from going further. Dave, however, is not so easily dissuaded and begins to pursue Beth. The first book focuses on Beth's attempts to fight her ever increasing attraction while combating the boredom and disinterest that seems to be the state of her marriage. Eventually, things come to a head and while I don't want to spoil the story completely - Beth's husband finds out about her relationship with Dave and it hits the fan.
The second book beings with the aftermath - Beth and Rick are working on their marriage and both are dealing with their lingering hurt and doubts. It's an unflinching and hard hitting story - both Beth and Rick have and continue to make some mistakes along the way until they are eventually forced to really confront what they mean to each other and what they truly want.
As I said, I found Beth to be overall a very selfish and immature character - although I did appreciate her love for her kids and her relationship with each of them. Rick certainly has his issues, as well - but overall I found myself appreciating his point of view (which we were treated to in a few chapters of the second book) much more than Beth's. This is not a 'feel good' book by any means - but it's also not one that I found myself wanting to throw my Kindle down while I was reading. As much as I couldn't sympathize much with Beth the author does a wonderful job of allowing us to understand her thought processes and motivations. She learns some very tough lessons along the way and this marriage is put through a wringer but in the end I was very happy with the outcome.
And again...anytime I find myself giving up sleep to not just finish one but START the next book I know the author has done a tremendous job of telling her story. So in the end - whether I loved the characters or not - I can't dispute this was a page turning, engrossing and well written series. Big kudos to Patricia Mann!
Arc, provided by Ms. Mann for an honest review and honestly I was captured by her first book and the continuation was even better!
"Is This What I Want?" , for Beth and Rick, this is the next question after Beth's betrayal they have spent the last four months in couples therapy working on their marriage . They have been doing well getting back to a couple who communicates, a couple who enjoy spending time with one another . Their marriage is finally getting back on track, even in the face of the very challenge to their marriage shows up in one of Beth's classes. Beth is honest with Rick that Dave is in her class, that she plans to tell him to withdraw and transfer to someone else's class. The problems in their marriage are not all due to Beth's infidelity ; Rick had checked out of the marriage too .
Beth, came up with the idea to go to Vegas for their anniversary, actually the thought was probably their after listening to her girlfreind go on about a swingers sex club called The Purple Room in Vegas , not that she revealed this to Rick.
The flight to Vegas, was an adventure in Vouyerism and joining the mile high club ( pretty dam hot) and a huge loosening up by Rick to allow the man inthe aisle to watch him pleasure his wife ,he'll he even made freinds with the guy, who happened to invite them o meet him and his wife and th a purple room. Rick and Beth agree to take look , but Beth has drank to much across the day of comped drinks at th casino and by the time they get to the purple room her mouth is running and her brain is not engaged and bad things happen when Beth drinks, the things she says to Rick that night , change the course f their relationship.
So ,is this what they want? Might not be but a separation is what they got! Distance makes the heart grow fonder , for Beth, I think it made her appreciate what she had and want to work harder to get it back.
I could go on and continue tell you more of the story,but reading is the rewarding part of this journey and this book is rewarding, engaging, and insightfull. The journey Ms.Mann takes you on, is all that and more; their where times when reading this that I felt the Nxiety of both Rick and Beth's part, I waged to cry for both of them and I certainly had the occasional moment of wanting to yell and scream at each one of them for being stupid.
Was this reading journey worth it? One word Absolutely!
I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review...
This is a squeal to "is this all there is". Honestly, you should read that book before you read this one, because it starts where it lefts off.
Beth is working with Rick her husband to fix their marriage. Beth had cheated on Rick with one of her students. All though, they did not sleep together they did almost everything else. It has been over 4 months and she has not seen him. She did everything she can to avoid Dave. Rick and Beth are going to see a therapist together and separate. Things are started to shape up. Both of them each still have their own issue. That was until Beth started teaching again and Dave shows up in her class. He couldn't drop it because he needed it to graduate. Now Dave is sparking those feelings and she still wonders what if..
Beth is also struggling with her best friends. She is actually being a bad best friend. Her best friend is pregnant and having issues of her own, and instead of being supportive she is all about herself and what her friend can say to make her situation better. it will take some shocking news to make her realize how much of a bad friend she is. On top of that her old friend that was a bad example with Dave told her she also is working on her relationship. she told Beth that her and her husband are part of a group and it made their relationship better. it has Beth questioning about trying it with rick.
The best part of the book for me was when Beth and Rick had a good talk and more shocking confessions come out. This will change things forever. They decided how they were going to fix it, and it leaves them each to make a choice. The question is will they each choose each other???!!!!
My 5 star review
After cutting all contact with Dave, Beth and Rick are working through their problems at home and through therapy. Summer has past and it's time for Beth to start back teaching in the fall. What will happen if she runs into Dave? How will it be handled? What Beth isn't prepared for is to see him so soon and as a student in her class. Familiar feelings return and Beth must make a decision...continue to be honest with Rick and save her marriage or get caught up in Dave again? But that may not be her decision to make. After a tenth anniversary gone wrong Rick may make the decision for her. And what will Beth do?
Wow this book had me shattered again. Just when you thought things were looking up Beth screws up again. And I'm not just blaming Beth because Rick is at fault too he's just more controlled. I have to admit how bad I felt for Dave, it was like I was almost rooting for him at times, knowing that it wasn't logical or even a possibility really. The age between Beth and Dave bothered me at first because it was a fourteen year gap but I get why it was written with such an age difference. Once again the writing was superb and what I really loved was a chance to get into Rick's head and find out more about their marriage troubles through his eyes.
In so many books you get a few struggles with your HEA wrapped up in a bow (which I do love). This book is real though, it's tears at your heart puts it back together and tears a little more just like life.
Bravo to Patricia Mann for writing and sharing these books, they opened my eyes.
I think we need a book about Dave...hint hint ;)
****This is book two of a series so this review will definitely be a spoiler if you have not read book one, Is This All There Is?****
As you read in the synopsis, Beth and Rick are working things out, and then BAM, Dave ends up in Beth’s class!! Beth is honest to Rick about it though, but it obviously doesn’t help their marriage. But just like the title suggests, Beth really still doesn’t know what she wants.
You know if you’ve read the first book, right before Beth was about to sleep with Dave, Rick called so it never happened. So Beth has been building up that moment in her head. The thing is, the grass usually seems greener on the other side doesn’t it? Usually your imagination is way better than the real thing. But Beth still isn’t seeing clearly, and one of her new friends isn’t really the best influence which also doesn’t help her out.
So, I was shocked at what happened in this book, to be honest. I wasn’t expecting it. But again, that’s what makes it so good. And just like the first book, I totally didn’t agree with Beth’s decisions. But again, that’s what makes it a good book.
So yes, I really liked it and definitely recommend.
My Rating: 4 stars
“I see the beauty of our human imperfection, the necessity of it, in fact.” (148)
It’s been a while since Beth cheated on her husband with a college student. Oh, if we can turn back the hands of time, right?
Now both she and Rick are in therapy, trying to heal and mend the broken pieces of their relationship. Can they possibly rebuild their marriage? Poor Beth will always be paying for her mistake. Well, she played with fire and got burned.
Of course, Dave, the guy she cheated with, would return as an enrolled student in her class. Will Beth fall off the wagon? Will she finally give in to the sensual temptation of Dave? I must admit that part of me was hoping that she would take that chance with Dave, but then I was also rooting for her and Rick to work out.
I liked how the emotional struggle was painted in such true, raw light. Every shout, every tear, every painstaking battle made for a scintillating read, just like the first book, Is this all there is? What was even more interesting was that we get the POV of Rick, the husband. It turns out that he was no saint either.
Is there truth to the old saying “Once a cheater, always a cheater?” This novel explores the sociological and psychological aspects to sex and relationship. It’s a story of broken trust and a rocky road to redemption.
Of course, the new ways to “spice things up” were a little too kinky and graphic. I mean, who has sex on a plane?
Overall, this was a well-written and enthralling read full of love, drama, and infidelity.
This book tells the story of a couple struggling to mend their fractured marriage. Will a commitment to therapy and honesty hold them together?
After reading the first book in which she betrays her marriage vows, I was keen to find out what happens to Beth and her husband Rick in this sequel. Beth is still dissatisfied, and although she knows what she should do, she finds it hard to do the right thing.
I have to say that I felt more sympathy for Beth in the first book than I do in this one. Her thoughts and feelings in the first book drew me in so powerfully that I could really understand how and why she messed up, but I’m afraid some of the choices she makes in this book distance me from her.
Where I think this story’s strengths lie are in the questions that it asks about Beth and Rick’s relationship. Is Beth going to squander this second chance with Rick? Would it be the right decision for the two of them to go their separate ways? When two people are so fundamentally different can they stay together? Do they balance each other or do they simply make each other unhappy?
As with the first book in the series, I think this would be a very good choice for a (broadminded) book club.
This was such a good continuation of the story! I even liked it a bit more than the first book :)
I liked the character development, in this book each character opened up in an unexpected way (especially Jill- that was a real surprise). I liked how the author did not just focus on main characters, but also provided details of other people's stories involved in their lives.
The Dave-related twist was a bit predictable, but still really interessting to observe. Dave is so young and naive and romantic - the perfect boyfriend everybody would want, but I still disliked him for what he did.
I also really enjoyed Rick's POV chapters. It was really interesting and insightful to readd about his thoughts, feelings and emotions, how he saw the situation, because generally men and women think so differently.
Rick just fascinated me, he is such a good husband no matter what - everyone makes mistakes, but not everyone can handle the consequences.
All in all, it was a really good book. It made me laugh, it made me cry a bit, so I really enjoyed it.
Can't wait for the third book in the series to come out!
What can I say about this book…
First off let me start by saying I loved book one and had high expectations for the second book, however I was disappointed.
I was disappointed in Beth and the choices she made and the person she became in this story. I was disappointed in Rick and his secret that he held on to for so many years. I was completely disappointed in both as a couple and the shit they pulled in Vegas.
Some of the issues that were presented in this story were very hard to read and deserved more time with them such as the cancer and the friends hardships.
In all the disappointment I felt towards the book, I will say there were some aspects of the book I did enjoy. Beth was an amazing friend and a great support. She loved her sons with unconditional love. The struggle that she was going through was a hard one but I feel she made it more difficult than it needed to be.
All in the entire book was not what I expected, I mean that it made me mad, frustrated and had me screaming at my kindle but I am glad that I did read it after the way the first book ended and got the closure that I was looking for in the story.
This book was more difficult to read than the first part. No one wants to have to deal with these issues in reality. Beth is struggling with problems in her marriage that may very well be due to a lack of proper communication. She and her husband seem to be trying to work through the problem of Beth's infidelity, but lo and behold! Rick is a victim... he was assaulted by a female co-worker, whom he assaulted in return because he felt responsible, then his wife cheated on him! I almost threw up at his admission. I feel that Beth is justified in the way she feels. The Las Vegas incident is the closest she comes to actually letting him know how she feels. Guilt makes him give her a chance to really figure things out. Their story ended, not in an anti-climax exactly, but rather more like a mellowing of emotions. In reality, I don't think it's possible to work through a situation like this. But hey, I'm sure it's been done. Many couples last a lifetime without exposing their battle scars.
A love so strong!
I was very excited to read the sequel and continue on Beth's journey with her. There were again moments that I related to Beth in situations she found herself in. This time I admit I was angrier with Beth at moments but only because I fell for Rick even more in this book. Getting to see his side, hear him and feel his sadness and love for Beth made me want nothing more than the happily ever after. I appreciate Patricia Mann's writing because it is real! Many times I would stop and say " I have felt that, done that, or been in a similar situation." And in all those moments I connected to her and Rick that much more and the roller coaster of emotions that they went through felt more intense this time around! Their story wasn't always feel good, sometimes it was gut wrenching heartbreak but that's what makes you turn the page, the hope that your characters find their happily ever after! Thank you Patricia Mann for the joy of that emotion, crying tears of joy for a love so strong it can survive anything!
