They say every rich man needs a wife. I say, all you really need is good food, plenty of money, and a warm, willing woman. Commitment? I break out in hives just hearing the word. Sure, I might be morally flexible, but I'm happy. What more could I want? A family? Me? Never! At least, that's what I thought...until Penny crashed into my life. The only problem? She doesn't want me anywhere near her idea of a family.
Penny I have success, a house, financial security. The only thing missing? A family. No, scratch that, a baby. I've decided to skip the man and build my own happily-ever-after. With the help of a holistic clinic, I can do just that. I just need one thing... a donor. Freshly broken up with my ex, I am short on options. That leaves me with Tarek Fairisles. He is gorgeous, brilliant, and emotionally unavailable. He doesn't want to be a dad, a husband, or anything resembling commitment. In other words, he is perfect. So why is he suddenly acting like he wants more?
Can Penny and Tarek find something real? Or will the past teach them a lesson they never saw coming?
It pains me to rate this book so low because I was beyond excited to read the next book in the Lakeshore series!
Initially the book started off on a good note with the good ole back story, but it started going downhill when myself who is dyslexic kept finding spelling and punctuation mistakes from the start of the book straight onto the last chapter. It made reading the book challenging because I was just assuming what word was meant to be in the sentence, so that ruined the experience at times.
The whole entire concept was intriguing, but I felt like the execution was rather poor. They were both traumatised as kids and instead of getting help knowing damn well that they’re both millionaires, they just choose to close themselves off from love which made reading the book painful. I can sympathise with you if you find loving someone and committing to a relationship difficult but if you’ve never tried and you’re closing yourself off to it then it’s so stupid, because essentially you’re living in fear.
Penny really wanted to be a mum and no offense when I say this, but everyone who wants to be a mum deserves the opportunity to be able to carry their child if it’s possible. BUTT Penny wasn’t helping herself, like don’t pmo. Both her and Tarek’s version of defying the odds of what Doctors told about her getting pregnant, was fucking more?????
There was humour which I will always appreciate because it makes reading the book easier and I really loved Cole’s personality, but it wasn’t Coles book obviously. I could go on for ages about what I dislike about this book and giving three stars is even too generous in my opinion, but because I’ve read other books from the author I know her potential therefore, I can’t be too mean.
Okay last one, but aren’t we going to talk about Penny getting into an incest love triangle relationship because she’s essentially dating her brother’s half brother! Yeahhhhhh that was just casually thrown in at the end with no resolution on how everyone was adapting to that. Also, why am I seeing Miranda and Derek’s story embedded in this one but then they didn’t have a closure at the end, like I honestly just became more frustrated as the book progressed because what???? Overall the bad outweighs the good in my opinion, because even the epilogue felt rushed.
I’m on the fence here. For the most part I liked Penny although I would’ve liked to see her have the strong confident personality we saw her have the first night at the restaurant. I didn’t think the separation was necessary but whatever. Why didn’t he even try to contact her?!
Tarek was a manwhore. Plain and simple. Once you get to know him he’s more likable, but he and his friends are kind of gross. I read Rhys book and I remember them being assholes but not this. The whole Tarek approved was not it for me.
The parents story was interesting but I didn’t understand how by the end they haven’t talked about or to their kids about everything that happened.
Overall, not bad. I liked when Penny and Tarek were developing their relationship but all the outside stuff was not my favorite. Check it out, you might love it!
3 stars because the story was really good—everything was going so well, with two intertwined storylines and a solid mystery. But all of a sudden, the FMC just ran away for a year and a half over a really lame excuse. She was infertile and assumed the MMC wanted kids, even though he never said that. In fact, when she told him she wanted kids, he literally said, ‘If you want a kid, I’ll give you a kid.’ But instead of having an honest conversation, she ran away. As someone who struggles with insecurity myself, I tried to understand her, but the main issue was this: the FMC and MMC were insanely in love with each other. So much so that our ex-playboy MMC couldn’t even feel attracted to anyone else. They were dating and sleeping around with other people, sure—but still, somehow, they were only ever in love with each other. Wow.
After about 70% of the book, I honestly had to drag myself through it. I wanted to DNF it because of all the unnecessary drama. I only kept going for the second storyline—and the author didn’t even finish that!
As much as I loved Rhet I loved Tarek even more! I laughed, cried and had to stop myself from staying up all night to finish this one. I guessed the first twist early on but there were two more that came that blew me out of the water.
As a woman with PCOS and infertility I thought the subject was well done in this book. KT adequately touched on feelings and realities that all women in this situation have faced - especially when they want to be a mother. I loved how Tarek being a playboy falling in love was written gradually and it didn’t feel like instalust masquerading as instalove.
After finishing “Rhet” I wanted Jasper’s story to come after Tarek’s but I’m looking forward to Dax being book 3 (if that set up was any indication. And maybe we’ll get a Novella about the pair that started this whole story.
I love nothing more than reading about a playboy that gets his heart snatched out of nowhere and Tarek did not disappoint. From jump I was like Penny is more woman than I could ever be because Tarek’s whole vibe is intimidating. Plus the fact that he’s the owner of Nowhere? Every night I would be like Alexa play “love shoulda brought you home”. I liked Rhet, but I LOVED Tarek. First of all Penny is a real character. She’s not miss the best to ever do it. She’s not the girl everyone is tripping over, she’s got flaws, she’s got insecurities and like most of us she catches strays on the regular about her body from men and healthcare professionals. I love a story about a connection that comes out of no where that neither planned. Both Penny and Tarek are slick in the mouth. “How can you hate my guts when you can’t even reach them?” Was a bar. But moving on to the spice.. I’ve been a spice reader for a loooooong time and I have to say the author sprinkled some scenes in here that I have never come across before. I cackled at the wax, mumbled ‘you know yall wrong’ about the closet, and I’m going to be side eyeing produce at restaurants for a min. Penny almost fell out of my good graces around the 70% mark because ‘y u do dat?’ I admit that the first two times the flashback secondary story happened I was annoyed and then…I was locked in, trying to put the pieces together before the next pop up. I could keep going bit by bit with my thoughts but this would be forever long. It was a great time, a time was had. And I want to ask when we will be able to read Cole’s story but I will truly cry if KT Adler says “Soon”
The 2nd book in the series is all about Tarek Fairisles and Penny Holt. Both make multiple appearances in their respective friends’ stories. However, this time we take a deeper dive into how the relationship can to be. First, we have renowned Restaurateur Tarek Fairisles. Growing up with a volatile example of love has left a lasting impression, to say the least. However, this begins to change one night at his restaurant when he has a chance meeting with our heroine, Tech Whiz Penny Holt. Much like Tarek, Penny hasn’t had the best experience when it comes to relationships. However, Tarek is determined to change her mind. This one dinner is the beginning of so much more for our main couple. I won’t reveal any major story, but I will say this story took me on a major emotional journey. Tarek and Penny truly went through it. Although there was some major drama and heartbreaking scenes, I can’t forget the steamy scenes along with the witty humor. In addition to new characters, we have appearances from our favorite characters from the Lakeshore crew. Also, I had my theories on a few characters, but I was speechless at some twists. Despite all the major hindrances, Tarek and Penny finally did receive their HEA. Overall, I really enjoyed this story and am patiently looking forward to reading about the rest of the Lakeshore guys' stories.
Eventually liked Tarek and Penny's story. It had funny moments and spice😜, but it took a while to swing with their coupling. But Tarek & Penny had some deep childhood trauma that caused a lot of dysfunction with both of them and their situationship. Signing up to have babies in a situationship with someone you don’t know is wild! Tarek was NOT father material initially. Penny started good as the strong independent boss bich, but turned into mush around Tarek the guy she trusted with her body and not her emotions🙄. But I did appreciate that Tarek seemed to respect and take care of Penny from the start, even though it was not the norm for him. Also, no therapy for two wealthy people with major trauma?!?! His parents story was way too long and incomplete. The pre-story from the parents was not resolved for us as readers or the characters. The MCs never even got clarity to all the drama from the parentals. Loved all of Tarek's friends, they were hilarious. With such a long book, I expected a better story for the MCs from start to finish. The end and epilogue felt rushed and cut short. I wish the MCs were better more likable characters.
What can I say about this book it was exceptional to me. I love the banter back and forth it made me laugh, it made me say wow, it had me in my feelings and the past and present was done so well That you felt like you were there.. I laughed aloud when I saw the name auntie baby because I think in every island household there is an auntie baby or for me a tanty baby lol The little notches to my island of Trinidad 🇹🇹 now that made my day as well but the story line is so intricate that I didn't want to put the book down At the end I was hoping that there was something extra regarding Miranda and Derek, and maybe there might be later on down the line but a job well done in creating Tarek and Penny.... Definitely a must read...
I loved this book so much 😭 I was hooked the whole time and didn’t want to put it down. The story flowed really well and the characters kept me invested from start to finish.
Also… the fact that his ex-girlfriend’s name was Melody (melatonin) had me CRYING 😂 like why was that so funny every time it came up??
The chemistry was definitely there 👀 I’d say the spice was like a 4–5/5 🔥 and you could really tell the difference when it switched to the male POV, which I actually loved—it made everything feel more real and cute at the same time.
I do think a duet narration would’ve made it even better, but it was still really good overall.
Easy 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My only complaint is I wish it was longer because I wasn’t ready for it to end!!
First of all let me just say: BRAVO, BRILLIANT, STELLAR, SPECTACULAR!!!! This is truly one of the best books I have ever read! This story was so rich, so engrossing, and just so beautiful. It broke my heart at times, had me all teared up, and all up in my feelings. This was a truly epic love story. Tarek and Penny are the very two that deserved to have it all. WHEW KT! You did your thing with this one lady! The ancestors must’ve been guiding your hands writing this ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL STORY! I will be re-reading this A LOT! I GIVE THIS BOOKS 🌟 INFINITY! BRAVO!
“I reach into my side taking out my money clip and slap the money on the table. “$500 saying that he leaves her in six months.”
Is this high school?
“Now my nights are filled with food, alcohol, sex and an occasional drug.”
I’m done with authors these days. The h discover she can’t have children, ok she leaves but he didn’t try to be for her ugh. And now his besties with her brother (?? At least she wasn’t celibate
“I feel like I failed as a woman, Tarek. PCOS may sound like a joke to some but I am dealing with mood swings and hair growing in unwanted places. I am sasquatch at this point. Weight gain, and now it has affected my ability to have children.” I should feel sorry for her. I should feel compassion but all I feel is rage.”

KT you outdid yourself with this book. I loved reading Penelope and Tarek's story. This is a story of how opposites attract. It shows how the past sins of the father and mother can affect their child whether young or old....This book shows the brotherhood of the guys and their love for one another. How they have each other's backs. The scandalous petty women because they weren't the chosen ones. This book is filled with drama, backbiting, hot, hot sex scenes while giving homage to a beautiful plus sized woman.!!!!! This series is awesome and I can't wait for the next book.!!!! Great job Shuga Bae!!!
Every word leads to Tarek's bare soul laid open to be molded into something beautiful.. which leads to Penny and self doubt...is she or isn't she good enough to be loved unconditionally by a wealthy and beautiful man..she doesn't see how beautiful she is ..inside and out.. which leads us to Miranda's tortured past with Dareck's tortured past..all molded and twisted by Ily's sick twisted obsessions and deception... which brings a future she never imagined.. with all the scheming and plotting.. this a very hot sexy read..if you enjoyed Rhett and Zeeta's story...you will certainly be ecstatic with Tarek's and Penelope story!
This could have been 4 stars except the main characters spent the whole book making stupid relationship decisions rooted in their childhood traumas. As a result of their traumas, they had intimacy and abandonment issues. The bad decisions just got tiresome. Because Tarek and Penny never handled their emotional baggage the HEA wasn't believable.
Oh, the piece about Tarek's mother's will.....unbelievable and unrealistic. There were better ways to explain why Tarek's father made the choices he had.
Tarek and Penny! I enjoyed every bit of this read. Ms. Adler wrote the heck out of their story. The pace, dialogue and couple were beautifully written. I enjoyed this so much more than Rhet. Tarek was so complex as was Penny. They were perfect for one another. And I really hope that their parents get their own HEA! They have suffered enough! Well done KT Adler, well done!
This story was everything. It's labeled dark romance but the humor, drama, and plot were chef's kiss. The spice was top tier. Tarek is going in the all time favorites list. The most sacrilegious prayer, food is a whole side character, and back story is so good it's like getting two stories for one. This was book two in the series and I can't wait to read more from KT Adler.
1 am loving this author more and more. Once again she has a beautiful BBW as the FMC, and she is smart and makes her own money, and needs no one. So when she meets the handsome MMC her main attraction initially is his connection to a popular restaurant. From their first dinner there, things will never be the same for either of them. Great storyline of unexpected love and all that comes with it.
KT weaves a beautiful story all the time. FINALLY! I was reading Penny and Tarek's story. The wait was long but it was totally worth it. Stick with the story. It got me frightened in the middle...I thought it was about to be Taboo. But it wasn't.
I fell in love with Rhet in book 1 and now Tarek in book 2. I have a strong feeling that these lakeshore boys are going to continue to be magnificent. Cannot wait for Dax's story which looks to be next. Can't wait to see who KT is going to pair him with. I also hope to see Miranda and Dereck's happy ending.
I started this book on a Saturday and stayed up until 4am to finish it. It was such a good read. Two people with trauma drawn to each other, too afraid to fully trust each other but wanting/needing each other. This was like two books in one with the built-in backstory. It is a page turner that will have you guessing, swooning, crying and swooning.
I really hope the next Lakeshore story. Won't take as long. But boy was it worth the wait. Please bring this to audible soon. I loved it. It was seamless from the last one blended well we got a glimpse of Rhet and Zeeta in which i.love and still listening too. But this story was intriguing and had a great twist. Very very good.
Another beautiful story. It’s been a long time coming but I’m so happy this author took the time to perfect her craft. I was not disappointed… I can’t wait for Dax’s story next
Well worth the wait.....and it was a wait. Tarek was a sexy playboy chef with mommy issues and a sex drive off the charts. Penny a full size sexy take no mess diva with daddy issues. Loved this book!
KT Adler!!! I think you out did yourself with Tarek!!! I thought Rhet and Zeeta were one of my best reads but Tarek and Penny holds the crown!! There was never ever a dull moment while reading about their story! They were absolutely made for each other!!!
I CANNOT LIE, THIS BOOK EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS!!! I ENJOYED THE GROWTH THROUGOUT THE BOOK FROM BOTH MAIN CHARACTERS. THE PLOT TWIST HAD ME AT THE EDGE IF MY SEAT. THIS BOOK WAS EXTRA 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ JUST HOW I LIKE IT. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.
Bravoooooo read it in one setting didn’t think it should be this long but this book def needed all its pages this series will continue to thrive i can feel it all the stars and whew the love scenes iconic and different bc what’s grapes without foreplay
Yes to the guy on the book cover, minus the cigarette in his mouth because who smokes cigarettes in romanceland these days. Overall, I enjoyed this story, but this book needs an editor—pronto—there are too many typos, missing words, incorrect tenses and misused words in this story, and at a pricepoint of $8.99—or at any price—but you can read for FREE if you have a Kindle Unlimited subscription.
If I had my choice of who's up next, it would be Cole because I found him more interesting than the other guys in the group. This is a series so make sure to read Rhet (Book One).
