The Age of Exploration isn’t over yet… It’s just changing direction!
Having read the author's previous book, The Cavern Under The Lake, I knew I was going to be in for a treat but wow!
Adelia and Cai are written incredibly well, their characters are well crafted and easy to love. The use of folklore and mysteries is superb and I know it'll lead a few young, inquisitive minds down a rabbit hole of research!
Highly recommend as an individual read, and as something to be used as a class read for Year 6 up!
This reads very well and the prose is elevated in a way that makes this feel much bigger than the YA tone one might expect going in - grabbing you from the very first scene by dropping you right in the middle of something sinister that's already happening. For fans of Indiana Jones-type adventures, this serves as a welcome addition to those kinds of stories with good pace, solid characters, and some fun folklore layered in. The stakes are set pretty high for the group - which creates a good amount of suspense/mystery/intrigue - and the fact that they rarely feel as young as they're meant to be is a welcome surprise.
This book was a fun story! Adelia and Cai are training to be cartographers and are competing for the same position with their mentor. Both of them are hanging their futures on keeping their spot in The Company of Cartographers. Lots of rivalry ensues. The story was a great mix of adventure and fantasy with some heartwarming moments and peril scattered throughout.
An excellent story filled with description that immerses you in the world of Levi, Cai and Adelia as they set out to explore the mysteries and folklore of Exmoor. Follow Cai and Adelia as adversaries seeking to become Levi's star pupil in the craft of cartography. If you're a fan of an adventure, with characters who come to life and a plot with plenty of twists and turns, this book is for you!
📚✨ Middle Grade Book Review: A Tale of the Dwellerstone by @a_d_downton ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
If you’re into fantasy with magical creatures, spooky forests, forced partnerships, and a heroine who doesn’t put up with nonsense, say hello to Adelia Wray.
She gets paired up with her rival Cai (ugh), but Adelia holds her own. She’s clever, a little stubborn, and totally easy to root for. Her journey is packed with great character moments, fun dialogue, and just the right amount of mystery and tension. The banter is sharp, the world is super vivid, and the whole adventure just hits right.
📖 Perfect for anyone who likes their fantasy with a little sass, heart, and plenty of forest trouble.
