The finger of Ben Palpate is on the pulse of the important in this book. As a poet, he knows that poets wrestle with the world, God, and everything in between (people and place). Sharing his conversations with us is like tiptoeing into the void with a caring guide. I especially liked Li-Young Lee's chapter. And getting introduced to poets I hadn't known before. As an English major, I've read the romantics, the transcendentalists, the free-verse junkies. But this—modern poets who yearn for the eternal in the here and now? It's beautiful, it's weighty, it's fresh, it's my favourite book, and I'll be giving it as gifts to all my favourite people—because I love them and want to give them good gifts that matter.
